For Toji in the default, this would definitely work out exactly as it sounds ! Though he wouldn't ever say it out loud after the fact ; verbalizing he has friends, it'll never feel real, no matter what lead to said friendship . He's not so prickly in this era, yes, but he's still got his concerns ; to be honest, he'd probably ask Akemi to never call him a friend, either . But don't worry, because if they're close enough to be considered so, then that's what they are !

In the HI era, though, he's not at all that comfortable with calling anyone friend, even if a circumstance brings them close,,, honestly, he'd be shocked anyone would consider him that way, no matter what they find themselves in .

This isn't to say she can't worm her way into his concerns eventually, though, as that's what it'd take for him to consider anyone a friend in this time . It'll just take a lot of work, and he'll fight like HELL when he realizes it, but if she's determined enough, even he wouldn't be able to tell her no ! Eventually, he'll be worried . He will . It's circumstances that have him presenting himself as uncaring and unfeeling, after all ; that façade of his, it's not genuine . Anything can be undone, any wall can come crumbling, if just enough work is put in .
