I'm not changing That #she's just never actually met wrh like I had initially decided before #I know hcs dont have to line up 1 to 1 with canon but after thinking about it it bothered me too much #anywayz the fic isn't where my time has gone . “You’d know if you went and looked.” Her response is dry, but her grin betrays her; they’re both taking the piss outta the situation, but that’s what it was meant to be all along, anyway. She likes that they can do that at all right now, too—again, it’s that idea of things just maybe getting better.

“Okay, okay, but you’d better give it to me this time.” She says quickly, because if she does she can keep the tremble out of her voice maybe he’ll be more likely to agree. “I’m takin’ it as a promise.”

She’s fairly sure he means it that way, anyway, but saying it out loud makes her feel a bit better. It makes her even more sure that he isn’t expecting her to leave immediately after dinner, or even the day after.

He’s more than capable of it strength-wise, but if he wants her gone, he’d better make good with himself about doing it, if he isn’t already. She’s not leaving easily just yet—she came here for him, after all. Not that she’ll say that yet.

Her shoulders lose some tension, though, as he laughs again, and it makes her lean on her elbows on the table. Good, good, he’s still happy. That’s a good thing!

“Keh, whatever,” petulant still to her core, she chooses to ignore his comment (she didn’t but again, whatever—) and continues with, “but good, because bread is good and you ought to eat it.”

Ah, but a worrying thought just occurred to her— “Hey, can those things eat? They won’t eat it if they do go get it, right?”

Maybe she shouldn’t care. Maybe it shouldn’t matter. Maybe she even knows the answer! Still, there’s something on the tip of her tongue. Another set of words she could say. She just won’t.

“You probably knew full damn well even then that it wasn’t real,” even though she knows that isn’t true, she says it anyway, settling back in her seat. As tempting as it is to make a real fuss again, though, she won’t—it’s her fault he thought she was, after all. “Lying on my own name just to excuse your rudeness...”

She definitely is pushing it. Still, what he’s said actually...interests her a lot. He’d really teach her to cook? If she just stuck around for a little bit like she’s been thinking?

And here she thought she’d have to offer. He just made it easy.

“Teach me then?” It still sounds like a question. Like she isn’t sure he’s serious. So, to soften the blow, she adds, “’s not like I can read a recipe, so you have to if you wanna eat anything I make. Might run ya outta house and home, though, because I wasn’t bad at it!”

...There are far worse things to be found in crates, but seeing a young man inside of one wasn’t exactly high on Hendrickson's list of expectations.

Because he has to have his reasons, right? Could it be that he's injured?

Not that he at all moves to set the crate’s lid down to, say, help him out of there himself. He probably should, he really thinks he probably should; it's not even his crate, too, he’d only come over because he heard something inside of it (even if finding out the reason why posed more questions than it didn't). The two of them being caught near it could pose problems of its own!

The young man managed to sneak out from Cloud Recesses and follow the road down to Caiyi Town. He had been there once before when he was younger and that had been with company. Now he is alone, eyes wide as he takes in everything. It's much. Too much and he for a moment just stands there, eyes closed and palms pressing against his ears. Then, he bolts. Running, he tries to find somewhere to hide, a place to escape, but in his overwhelmed state, he runs away from Cloud Recesses instead of towards it.

Eventually, he calms down a little and by then, he finds himself hiding in an empty lidded crate. Xuan knows he should go home. Home to safety, but he doesn't know where he is anymore and at least he's a bit shielded in here. Or at least he was, until someone opens the lid and peers down on him. Temporarily blinded by the sudden increase of light, he squints his eyes shut and makes a high pitched whining sound.
