i can't even point to a specific moment that turned me from 'oh they have a fun teammate dynamic!' to a full-blown hater ('hater' is a bit strong but close enough) but it must've been something to do with the fans...

and that third paragraph of yours - ah, man, i feel you so much. i also used to genuinely enjoy their teammate dynamic a lot (loved watching the c2 challenges, etc etc.) and i also can't quite point to a specific moment when this changed? but i do know the general themes about it, and since i had an incredibly long exhausting day at work today, i'm quite in the mood to rant about them. i will do so under the cut, though, lmao, because goodness knows i'm in a petty mood tonight.

so for me, when i first got into f1, it wouldn't have been inaccurate to say that i kinda loved carlos sainz. i loved the carlando/mclaren videos, and i loved the c2 challenges. he's funny, and he's pretty, and he has a cute dog, and he drives for ferrari... what more could you want?

the thing is, though. i am a charles girlie first and foremost. even though i liked carlos, he was never on the same level as charles for me. especially not in terms of driving - because, well, just look at the start of the 2022 season. enough said.

what started getting to me was that group of passionate carlos fans (the carlos girlies) who seemed to seriously think that carlos is a better driver than charles. they would slander charles and call him an inconsistent/reckless driver, while saying carlos was so much better. obviously, this rubbed me up quite the wrong way. and then at the same time, i was seeing carlos on my screen giving interviews where he would insist that if he'd had a few more laps, he would have overtaken max's red bull. like... i'm sorry, but that was never going to happen. in any world. pffft. (my thoughts at this point went: arrogant! he thinks he's better than he actually is.)

so that got me to like carlos himself a little less, which obviously has an influence on the ship as a whole. i mean, it would be hard to like a ship if you only really like one of the two partners in it, right? right? this is what i've always thought, anyway... except that a lot of charlos shippers seem to like carlos a lot more than charles. which is to say: in so many of their fics/characterisations, it's all glorifying carlos, while charles is essentially his arm candy with all the character depth of a rather pretty paper cutout. less than ideal...

the last thing, and perhaps the pettiest of all, lmao, is just that i'm incredibly possessive and insane about piarles. i acknowledge it. in fact, i fully own it. they are my ship, and i want them and only them to be endgame, always. now, obviously i don't expect everyone to agree with me 😂😂 but i don't particularly want to be seeing any content on my dash that features charles/anyone other than pierre as an endgame ship. and charlos usually is portrayed as an endgame ship/they're meant for each other etc. etc. well, sorry. to me, charles is meant for pierre, and pierre only. charlos is out. the end 🫶

okay so we have britcedes (rip to them ig) to start off, rn trying to figure out how the actual fuck i will write lewis' move to ferrari into them:

End Game: okay so a/b/o au where lewis is coparenting his son with his ex (teammate and boyfriend, buy 1 get 1 free) nico rosberg. lewis might have a lot on his plate but he finds himself attracted to his new teammate (he has a bit of a type) and against his better judgement they start up a "thing". what lewis doesn't realise george is absolutely head over heels in love with him and has been for YEARS. but george tries to play it cool, he fails, shit happens, gax happens (yes okay i don't want to fumble with this, max is incredibly complex in this but i still love him in it) but yes they get their end game of course.

Chasing Silver: set in canon universe, starting from the 2021 season. honestly like yeah that's it. i think this fic is just an excuse to ramble about their racing and ever shifting dynamics.

My Girl: OH THIS FIC. its absolutely one of my favourites if not the favourite. so lesbian britcedes, lady louise hamilton is the first black and female driver to make it to f1 and she is the champion of the sport. its 2022, she has won 7 wdcs and is looking for one more but it is just not clicking, neither is her personal life really. love left her a long time ago, walked away on 6 inch red stilettos. but enter george russell (yes her name is george and no it is NOT short for georgia and yes she will correct you on that every single time) louise's new teammate alex albon's race engineer. all george ever wanted was everything and being louise's girl might just give it to her or maybe it will be what takes it it all?

then there is gax my beloveds, i adore writing them, gax nation will always have my loyalty, i really want them to give me more this season:

Lovely: this is a/b/o, childhood sweethearts, non-driver george, son of toto wolff au i have shared snippets of before. writing this fic feels never ending and i am slowly losing my mind haha but its still! my! baby! and! i! won't! abandon! it!

Mad Max's Princess: this is pure self indulgent fluff. girl george who is once again is casted as alex albon's race engineer in this fic. her (mostly) loving boyfriend of 10 years is none other than rival team red bull racing's star and the reigning world champion. the guy they have to beat to get her driver and team to the top. oh when the love of your life is your biggest fan and your biggest hater. this is gax, of course hijinks ensue.

Fire & Blood: medieval fantasy/game of thrones (a song of ice and fire for the ones who know) au with a/b/o dynamics. mercedes are the rulers of the land and their dragons' fire melted the gold in their crowns and the moulded their iron throne. but a dragon can die and a dragon can be killed. a dragon can be shot from the sky and brought down to earth or a dragon can be trapped in a dungeon till it can fly no more. a dragon's neck can be pierced by a lion's teeth.

galex because okay who am i to argue against true love and george's russell's wishes:

Hell is a Teenager: this is a pretty dark fic where i actually do some social commentary on the a/b/o universe. so george and alex are neighbours and the best of friends who are just on the edge of more. at 14 george presents as an omega and is shipped off to an all-omega private boarding school. alex doesn't hear from him till their final year of high school and all of a sudden george is back in town. he is not the same boy that cried in alex's arms the night before he left begging for him to love him. george has changed even if no one else can tell, what happened in there? why is he back? why does alex's heart still give a stutter when he looks into those blue eyes? even if those eyes no longer sparkle. *sigh* yeah this is a toughie

The Only Exception: another a/b/o au (one hit wonder i know), basically its the good boy/play boy trope. lando can't get his shit together and oscar is too oblivious for his own good. it would be angst if they weren't so incredibly adorable and down bad for each other.

Hi Hibi! (Sorry if this will end up being kinda an essay, it's a very long text, but I think it's important for all the Carlos fans out there).

I just read the other anon talking about Ferrari fans. I'm Italian and I live in Italy, I'm a Carlos and Ferrari fan as well, and maybe I can give you more information about this particular topic, considering that the team is Italian and, as you can imagine, there's plenty of Tifosi here.

It's true, some Tifosi support more Charles than Carlos, but in this case I think it's a matter of preference and you know, the "Predestinato propaganda" of the last three/four years. Some other fans, as anon said, are really toxic towards Carlos, but usually they're not real Ferrari fans, they are biased Charles fans or "fake" Ferrari fans who think that Charles is the only valid driver of the grid, usually they hate Carlos for "not helping Charles enough" or because "he's making too many mistakes", (don't get me wrong, I adore Charles, but parts of his fans are insanely toxic), also they really hate Max because of the fighting for the championship. And yes, they think that Mick is better than Carlos or Ferrari should sign Giovinazzi (Giovinazzi. Really? I like him, but nope. I think that they want him in Ferrari just because is Italian and not because they believe in him to be honest, similar to Mick, they want him for his surname and not because they really support him). They're just so toxic about everything and everyone, sometimes they're even hate or criticize Binotto. Basically they're not the clowns, they are the entire circus.

Said that, I want to talk about the majority of Ferrari fans here in Italy and all the people who just love the team and watch the races every Sunday. The majority of Ferrari fans (even the ones that prefer Charles), really support and love Carlos. As a Carlos fan myself, I was afraid of the reactions after Imola and all the bad luck Carlos was having, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw all the support on social media and how people really "protect" him from the hate and comments of certain people. I think that the majority of people really learned their lessons after all the drama with Seb, (I still feel sorry for him). The real Ferrari fans know that we have the best duo on the grid, and they know how Carlos is extremely hardworking, consistent, fast and talented, all combined with his humility, his composure, his kindness and his visible love for the entire team and for Ferrari. Last year and this year, we really feel like we are a family again more than a F1 team (finally!), and this is all thanks to Binotto and of course thanks to Carlos, who brings his amazing personality everywhere. McLaren (and Lando) can confirm that as a matter of fact. Maybe the haters can be the loudest, but they're not the majority, at least here in Italy. Our support to Carlos will always being stronger than all the hate. Through thick and thin.

P.P.S. Sorry if my English is not perfect, even though I studied languages in high school, and I read papers in English for university, (and Carlando fanfic😌) every day, I'm still struggling a little bit. I'm sooo much better and fluent in Spanish.

This is so incredibly comprehensive and enlightening. Wow. Thank you for taking the time to write all of this out. I’m not surprised that the people who hate Carlos aren’t actual tifosi. That has been the sense I’ve gotten from everyone who actually loves Ferrari - they take the “we’re a family” thing seriously. Plus anyone with two eyes and a brain larger than an apricot recognizes the value Carlos brings to Ferrari. Thank you so much again, AND thank you for your lovely compliment.
