I’m in a mood, so deal with it.
This--

People who like to jerk off Zack Snyder like to point out that it’s brilliant because it’s putting Superman, the hero who can do anything, in this:
Tumblr media
For those who DON’T know, this is called the trolley problem, a scenario to see that if it’s ethical to kill one person for the sake of others. But here’s the thing: It doesn’t WORK in Man of Steel for a number of reasons.
Number One: Superman could have stopped him. Yanked him away, fly somewhere else, or even pushed Zod to the ground and knocked him out. Because if he could snap Zod’s neck with enough force to break the sound barrier, then he could have done literally ANYTHING else to stop Zod.
Number Two: Even if Superman COULDN’T stop Zod another way (which he could have), this is not a HORRIBLE example of the trolley problem. People say he had no other choice and that fact ruins the whole experiment. The options to kill ONE person over OTHERS is a proper ethical dilemma when you don’t know how good or how bad every person is. Like, if the choice is to kill one evil dictator who would have killed MILLIONS over five innocent people, then there isn’t a tough choice, there’s ONE choice: Kill the dick, save the others. No one would have blamed him otherwise and it’s not morally wrong to kill the person that would have killed a planet.
And Number Three: It’s SUPERMAN. A beacon of hope and a representation of the best of us. He’s a man who can do anything. Who can find another way, even if it might SEEM impossible. Or the man who’s willing to do ANYTHING to save ALL lives, not just end one. Sometimes he fails, sometimes he can’t do everything, but it’s either because something is out of his control or he met his match. If he can’t stop a psycho like Zod other than killing him, he’s not Superman. He’s a bastardization of a character that’ll NEVER live up to the hero we all idolize. The hero who would hold the weight of the world over his shoulders if he needed to. The hero who would do anything for anyone for the sake of justice and peace. A person that can show us that there’s ALWAYS another way.
He wouldn’t change a trolley’s course. He would just stop the trolley altogether.
