Gus is the cat at the theater door
And his name, which I ought to have told you before
Is really Asparagus, but that’s such a fuss
To pronounce, so we call him just Gus
That’s from memory, is it right??
Remind me to make Growltiger later. In my mind, they used to paint black stripes on Gus whenever he played Growltiger.

Hey! I’ve decided to jump onto the bandwagon and make a Cats Oc, so here’s my sweet gal, Clementine!!
Some info on the gal:
So, my Oc is a younger cat named Clementine. She’s round about the age of Victoria and Misto, being too old to be considered a kitten but too young to be considered a cat. Her fur is ginger with brown and white markings.
She belongs to an old bookshop owner who tended to bring her to the shop as not to leave her alone too long. The human children who visited seemed to enjoy her being there and Clementine got to read a wide variety of books while sat on the lap of her human. Growing up, she grew to be quite the fan of poetry, often seen peering over her human’s shoulder to read whatever poetry he was reading at the time. This educated upbringing resulted in Clementine being a rather intelligent cat.
(I haven’t quite gotten around to this yet but I quite like the idea of Clementine being introduced to the Jellicle tribe by Jennyanydots due to the book shop being just across the street from her house.)
Clementine is rather small, even by Jellicle standards so she’s often seen sitting on chairs, tables and shelves in order to make herself feel taller. She’s generally quite helpful and sweet, though she tends to be influenced a little too much by the more rambunctious cats of the tribe so the elder cats (often Jennyanydots, Jellylorem or Skimbleshanks) tend to keep a close eye on her. This is just to make sure that she doesn’t get into too much trouble. She doesn’t mind this too much, she enjoys the company of the elders very much.
Clementine’s hobbies include writing poetry. Back in the bookshop she has a hidden stack of books and nice paper that she has swiped from her human’s desk. She attempts to write her own poetry with a pencil which is far too big for her little paws to hold and ripping out pages from books if she particularly falls in love with a poem. She’s absolutely a hopeless romantic, writing sappy sonnets about love stories and romantic locations in London. She’s far too embarrassed to actually show them to anyone though, she’ll just keep them to herself.
That’s all! I hope you like her :)

Bustopher Jones
Ooooh boy. So. Okay. Bustopher Jones. Hate what they did with him in the new film and I’ll explain why.
So Bustopher Jones in the musical is supposed to be this fancy ‘cat about town’ sort of character. He is NOT a fat joke (though of course there are certain lyrics commenting on his weight). Rather, his main feature seems to be that he’s rich and cultured and therefore can afford the finer things in life. In the 1997 filmed version of the stage show, he is portrayed as sophisticated and dignified and all the slightly older lady cats are kind of into him (especially jennyanydots). The movie decided it needed crotch shots, several more fat jokes and to make this character into a punchline as opposed to like...a respected member of the cats community.
That being said, Bustopher Jones did NOT have a large presence in the Cats fandom for several reasons. Number one: he’s older. Most of the older cats like Jellylorem and Jennyanydots don’t get a lot of love in fanfic because everyone’s more interested in the slightly younger generation. But more important than that, he’s not one of the ensemble cats. A feature of the musical is the fact that most of the cats are in the ensemble and have lots of little connections and relationships with each other throughout the songs. This is what allowed the fandom to WILDLY SPECULATE about their relationships. You can rewatch the 1997 film a bunch of times and just stare at the cats in the background and have a ball. Oddly, some of the most popular cats in the fandom aren’t the ones who get a featured song about them. They’re background characters with a few lines in the chorus who happen to have a big presence on stage.
But Bustopher Jones comes on for his song and then leaves, never to be seen again. This unfortunately means he doesn’t connect with as many characters or get moments throughout the show and therefore, he didn’t spark a lot of fandom interest. I certainly never read any fic when he was more than a minor character.
I realize in these last several paragraphs I am deeply exposing how much time I spent analyzing this musical but listen, I could go on for days.
