LONG RANT/REVIEW ABOUT TERRARIA 1.4

Long post ahead lol

I beat finally beat Moon Lord a few days ago on Master Mode, so I figured I can finally drop some thoughts about the update as a whole. 

For the most part: I love it!

Like, previously mentioned, I enjoyed the new content added to the game. Admittedly I did not use a lot of the new items, due to them being outclassed by the time I did found them, but they were still nice to have.

The two new bosses: Queen Slime and Empress of Light were also a welcomed addition, and finally makes the hollowed biome feel more complete. Queen Slime was a bit more chaotic than I would have liked, but it was not a big deal breaker. Empress of Light on the other hand was perfect for the most part! Her attacks easy to see and easy to understand, as well as being a pretty spectacle to behold. Might take a few times to understand her patterns, but her summoning item spawns fairly commonly in the hollowed biome in the outer 2/3rds of the world, so you will have plenty of chances to practice against her without spending too much time and resources.(Unlike Moon Lord............) She is definitely my new favorite boss(and Terrarian waifu...).

The new music themes added were also great. They even included the option for the Party Girl NPC to switch out the Terraria soundtrack with the Terraria Otherworld soundtrack after you go talk to her in a world generated with the seed “05162020 “. These tracks are also very good! Although, Otherworld’s Night theme does feel a bit out of place with terraria: 

Seriously, this is terrifying! I thought I was playing a crafty sandbox game, not survival horror! Then again, Terraria does have the Blood Moon enemies, the entirety of the Crimson biome, and Wall of Flesh; so perhaps it is not all out of place.

Little things like the bestiary, the updated backgrounds and trees and flowers swaying may not be be needed, but they are nice and help enrich the experience of the game. I really like reading through the bestiary just to see why the descriptions are for some of the enemies. I especially love how the backgrounds show little details, like shooting stars in the sky, an Eye of Cthulhu floating in the mountains, birds flying in formation, clouds forming various shapes, and even a large meteorite falling in the sky.

Pylons...I like them, but I do have issues. They do cut down having to travel across the map as well cheap and easy to set up. All these do come with drawback though, compared to to making a more traditional network of teleporters. You cannot use them during some events, like invasions or lunar events(This is a big one.) If your housing npcs powering the pylon dies, then pylon doesn’t work, until you replace them or the died ones move back in. BIOME SPREAD CAN AND WILL MESS UP YOUR NETWORK. Whether it be through displacing your npcs or because biome is different from the placed pylon. You can also only have one of each pylon, so no two cavern pylons or ocean pylons for fast travel. You can buy a universal pylon though, after filling out the beastiary 100%, which also works for any area and does not require npcs near it, so that’s useful.

NPC Happiness, I was kinda disappointed. On one hand, I like that they are not super demanding: Just pair them up with npc they like and place them in biome they like and they become happy and lower prices of their services. On the other, I was kinda expecting more challenge: Like, the nurse npc greatly prefers crystal furniture, or the Witch Doctor npc wants his house built with Rich Mahogany instead of normal wood, as ideas. But again, this probably for the better, cause it makes things much more easier to work with.

Luck. OOH BOY, I do not get the inclusion of luck. Yes, I know they got rid of bad luck from the code, but I still think luck is pointless in the game. Luck is a hidden mechanic that is not really explained well at all, apparently affects your loot drops, finding bounded npcs like the Wizard, Stylist, ect, rare spawns like golden critters and Pinky, gaining healing hearts from downed enemies, ect ect. I do not know how accurate the wiki page is but reading it is not exactly instilling me with confidence on how useful the stat really is if you go all in. Like, I would do easy stuff like slapping down biome torches and garden gnomes in my arenas, but I would not bother waiting till lantern nights and making luck potions. By the way, luck potions require pearls, and those are fished from the desert biome and are rare from oysters, especially the pink ones that give you best luck potions are the rarest at around 1/125 oysters. Yes, you have to depend on luck, to gain a temporary buff to make you lucky in game. Silly, I know. Its a lot of effort for a small increase, I just do not think it’s worth it. If the goal was to help players with making better drops rates, why not just make better drop rates for the items, instead of making the player jump through so many hoops??? Or make an accessory or even an armor set that makes drop rates better, or something, I dunno. This mechanic just feels so unnecessarily esoteric, and for little benefit too.

Master Mode: I already mentioned in previous posts, but I disliked it. Greatly. I love Terraria, but it is tedious game. Master Mode cranks up that tedium by a lot, due to higher spawn rates enemies, higher damage from enemies, losing all your carried money on death(But thats not that big of deal, especially when you get the piggy bank), and more enemies have more hp. It is just not fun to deal with. Especially when doing lunar events, those are especially hellish in Master Mode.

Journey Mode: I do not get it. “Its creative mode with extra steps” as said by a youtuber is the perfect explanation. Why make the player go through all the trouble to unlock infinite copies of items by making them play through the game again? Honestly, if I knew how much I was going to dislike Master Mode, I would have skipped that and made Journey Mode character and world instead. I will most likely still play through journey, but having to go through all the same game to unlock infinite copies of items is still going to be tedious, even with god mode on.

That is my big issue with Terraria 1.4, nothing really seems to address the tedium issue. I am not asking for all good loot to get handed to me on the first kill a mob, but would it really affect the game negatively if stuff like biome keys, rod of discord, or even silly things like the jellyfish necklace were a little bit more reasonable to farm for? Perhaps make the whole lunar event a little less tedious, by cutting down the required amount of kills before you can turn off the pillars’ shields? And/or give us more fragments so we can craft more Sigils if we fail the event and just want to farm Moon Lord? Did Revear Shark really needed to get nerfed? Were explosives for harvesting meteorite too good? I dunno.

Despite my negativity, I am still actually largely positive to the game and I would still recommend it, either if you have not played the game in while or if you have yet to play the game even. Its on sale on steam right now for 5 USD or 10 USD through GOG. Even if you do miss out on the sale, it is still VERY worth the 10 dollar price. Also the soundtrack is still rocking.

You must always expect an attack on the source of your strength.  Whatever makes you strong is of interest to your enemy.  If he can take that away from you, he can destroy you.  You must also attack your enemy’s source of light, fuel and food.  The reason why your financiers are under attack is because they are a source of strength for your ministry.  The enemy is always interested in the source of your strength.  

The financing of a war is the strength that keeps the parties fighting.       

There is nothing like a war without a financier.  The financier of a war is the power behind the war.  Who is the powerful person behind your enemy?  That is the real person you are dealing with.  A good general knows that there is something powerful behind every war.  Every war is fought by two parties and behind each party are the real makers of the war. 

When war erupts, you must find out who is financing your enemy.  That is your real enemy.  War is no cheap activity.  War is serious and expensive business.  Do you know the cost of war?  Ordinary people cannot wage a war in today’s world.  They need serious financial backing because the cost of equipment is so high that without a large amount of money, no one can wage a war.   

The Cost of War

It is almost impossible to win a war against someone who has more money than you.  The person who has endless sources of income has endless sources of strength.  These mysterious financiers of wars are those who are behind rebel wars and insurgencies all over the world.   

This is how come poor men who live in the village are able to possess tanks and other sophisticated weapons to wage wars with.  The real enemy heavily finances them.  In real life, these people would not have enough money to buy even one bullet.  There is always a hidden power behind the war.  

The Power behind the Angolan Civil War

In 1974, Angola became independent of Portugal.  Soon after their independence, the country was plunged into war.  The war was fought between two main group s: the MPLA (Marxist Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola) and UNITA (anti-Marxist National Union for the Total Independence of Angola) led by Jonas Savimbi.  These two groups fought a vicious war but could never have sustained their war without support from outside.  

Indeed, the MPLA, being a Marxist movement, was funded by the Soviet Union and Cuba.  The UNITA on the other hand, was supported by the United States and South Africa.  However, when the Soviet Union broke up and the Cold War ended, these major powers were no longer interested in financing such wars. 

In 1992, elections were held and the MPLA won and formed a government.  But the peace did not last and by 1998 the war had fully resumed.   

Every time a war erupts, you must ask who is behind the war.  So who was behind this war since America and the Soviet Union were no longer interested in sponsoring it?  The answer is simple.   

Since Angola was rich in diamonds and oil, multinational companies moved in and indirectly took over the financing of these wars.   

UNITA’s main source of income came from diamonds, whilst MPLA’s main source of income was oil.  UNITA controlled most of the diamond production in the country and earned at least 3.7 billion dollars between 1992 and 1997.  MPLA on the other hand, had most of its funding from the oil riches of the nation.   

As you can see, Angola’s war was always financed by somebody.  Initially, it was funded by powerful nations.  Then after that, it was financed by powerful companies.  When war erupts, find out who is financing the war.  That is your real enemy!   

Who Financed the War in Mozambique?

The independence of Mozambique and Angola by 1975 was a shock to the apartheid government in South Africa.  It demonstrated that even with great resources and military might, it was virtually impossible for a small white minority government to maintain control over a large hostile black population.  The downfall of the Portuguese in Mozambique gave great hope to the black people who were fighting for freedom in South Africa.  

Mozambicans now offered South African and Rhodesian resistance movements a safe haven from where they could coordinate their operations and train new forces.  Samora Machel of Mozambique said in a speech in 1975, “The struggle in Zimbabwe is our struggle.”  In other words, forces to destabilize South Africa were going to be nurtured in Mozambique.    

It was therefore now in the interest of South Africa to destabilize the newly-independent countries of Mozambique and Angola.  Once the governments of Mozambique and Angola were unstable, they would not be able to support anti-white movements in South Africa and Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).  By these supports, the civil wars in Mozambique and Angola were fuelled for many years.   

Indeed, there has never been a war without a financier.  Rebel war after rebel war has been sponsored by rich powers who have other interests.  The wickedness of man is seen by his sponsorship of war and death because of his selfish political ambition.  Without these financiers there would be no war because there would be no money for bullets, guns, tanks and bombs. 

Who Finances Your War?

There are hidden financial powers behind every spiritual war.  These mysterious financial powers are necessary if you are going to wage war.  The war that you will fight will be paid for by somebody.  The ministry that God has given you will be financed by God-sent financiers.

A good general is concerned about the well being of his financiers.

A good general fights off those who attack his financiers.

An attack on your financiers is an attack on your ministry.    

You must identify who these financiers are and patiently nurture and protect them.  That does not mean that you worship them and obey them.  You must recognize whom God is using to pay for the wars He sends you to fight.  I realised that God was using ordinary church members to pay for the crusades.  I have always wanted to be able to point to some millionaires and say, “This is my financier.  He pays for this and he pays for that.”  But somehow, it has not been any millionaires but ordinary people in the church whom God has used to pay for His work.    

Your financial strength is of great interest to the devil.  Whatever makes you strong financially is of interest to your enemy.   

I watched as the marriage of a great man of God disintegrated.  Initially it seemed that he was having marital problems and being de-housed.  As time went by, I realised that it was actually an attack on his financial strength.  Because of his divorce, most of his partners stopped supporting him.  Soon, his crusades and outreaches came to an end.  It became clear that the attack on his marriage was actually an attack on his finances.   

Who is Behind the War?

Who is behind the conflicts in your life?  Perhaps, you are wondering why you are always having conflict with your pastors, your wife and your children.  It is time to grow up and know that there is always someone behind the war.  There is someone behind the marital conflict that you are experiencing and it is Satan.  Satan is the one behind every conflict, every war, and every fight.  Notice, as soon as the devil is set free from the one thousand year imprisonment, he gathers people to fight against each other.  Gathering people to fight against each other is Satan’s work.   

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

Revelation 20:7-8

It is time to recognise that there is always someone behind a war.  The marital conflicts in your home, the confusion in your church, the enmity in your family are all demonically inspired.  Satan is the one who gathers people to war against each other.  You must rise up in the night and bind the devil.  You must curse his operations.  You must limit and weaken his access to your life.  Through the power of God, you are destroying every hidden force fueling conflicts in your life.
