so as some of you already know, i actually got to speak to tycho today and have some really productive conversation on things that terras has been falling short in. i was excited to show you guys our chats since i think it shows a good explanation and forward movement for certain things (but as we all know now its pretty useless now lmao)

he did give me proof it was him by giving me a screenshot of his discord status, showing the edit button below, the following are some snippets of our convo (posted in a sta.sh link because there are a few)

towards the end of our interaction is when the big announcement happened, and afterwards the two of us discussed some of the things mods had planned for the species, including another subtype that would allow members to use limited traits

after this, while watching the server implode and having our lovely terras is over party, i received screenshots from someone on the mod team who wants to stay anonymous (note that in these screenshots, there are various yellow flagged messages indicating the screenshotter was replied to. the person i got the screenshots from is NOT temul. just for clarity and anonymity's sake)

I like drawing. I like giving gifts.

I've spent hundreds of hours making gift art. Over a hundred pieces. I get species currency for it. I'm rewarded somehow. But I still wish I could receive a gift, sometimes.

One hour, three hours, ten hours, sixteen hours, on and on.

I usually receive nothing more than thank-you's and compliments. And because of gratitude for those compliments, I feel moved to make gift art for those who thank me. And so I sink more hours for nothing more than words. And practice, I guess. These are gifts, not trades, but I still wish. Some say they'll draw my characters back. They still haven't. I try not to keep my hopes up. These are gifts, not trades. I think they're happy to receive gifts. I'd be happy, certainly.

I don't know why I want praise so much. Why I'd value a little thank-you or compliment to the degree I'd keep this cycle going. I don't know why I expect so much. Maybe it's my environment. Maybe it's the culture I'm used to, being in a collectivist country. Maybe it's because I believe in the golden rule. As if that's a binding thing on anyone, really.

I have horrible luck in chains. A drawing chain stopped after I did my piece, so I'm not getting anything out of that, anymore, other than the currency I get from the piece I made for the person above me. Before that, the piece I did get in the chain was the bare minimum requirement. It's hard to not be a little bitter.

I still like drawing. That's why I can sink so much time into it so easily. If nothing else, it's practice. Practice is good.

I still like giving gifts. I'd like to receive gifts, even if that likely won't happen.

It happened a few times though. A few mass drawings with my characters in it. Other art fight things. Someone practicing a simple comm. Someone trying to get through all the characters in the group at least once. So gifts, not really for me specifically though, just for the sake of drawing my characters, to tick off a number on the list, or an obligation for the team.

All my actual gifts are from one person. A cute pencil sketch. A ticket. Interaction doodles. They make me want to cry a little, because they're so unexpected.

Everyone wants free art. Post open request and people flock to it. Reply to a request, and receive nothing ever.

It makes me tired and frustrated. Then I feel bad for feeling that way.

Look on the bright side. More practice for me. More currency to make characters that only I will ever draw.

Maybe I should only do trades from now on, but that won't feel the same. It's not really about the art. It's about people caring about my things and characters. I'd like a gift. Something with effort and care to balance out this give/receive ratio.

That's too much to ask though. It would be rude. It would be naggy.

"Hey, could you care please? A little? I don't need a surprise party, like those cartoon episodes where everyone hides from the mc and the mc gets sad until it's revealed at the end. It would be nice, but I know that's unrealistic. Could you just, do more than say thank you? Something more substantial than words, after it's been months? A little sketch? A dumb meme? Please?"

"Hey, I don't think you guys care enough. I think you're all horrible, greedy people who want to milk me for free mediocre art! I think I deserve to be a valued member, be special, because I do stuff that no one asked me too! Because my words and intentions don't match and I want you to be able to read my mind! So show you actually care! Feed my ego! You can do that at least, you lazy freeloaders!"

I don't want to be misinterpreted. I don't want to sound anything like the latter. Think I will, if I say something. Maybe I'm overthinking.

I'm grateful to that one person. I'm very grateful. But some other people would be nice. Anyone would think so, I think. I hope.

It's my fault too. My instinctual response is to tell people, "It's fine! You don't have to give me anything back!"

I mean it. I really really mean it. Because these are gifts, not trades. Because I keep gambling with hope even if I try not to. Because if they give me something anyway, it means they care to surprise me back.

I'd see a piece despite me saying it's unneccessary as a gift. Maybe they just see it as pushing an unwanted thing onto me? I'm not insulting their styles when I say, "you don't have to." Do they think I am? Because context variances? Culture clashes? I don't know.

I know this will probably keep going on though. Because I love the species, and that friend, and my characters, and the people who show interest, or thank me. So I'll keep making gifts with a vain hope of receiving them, and be elated whenever I receive anything from that friend or in a mass attack, and I just have to work on the gambling problem, I guess.

The main common denominator between species with dedicated vent blogs are staff and owners who shut down any and all feedback and criticism. Another commonality is being ban-happy against members for minor slights.

Wyngro isn’t as relevant now but in my opinion is a perfectly clear example of this. They made major decisions that upset the majority of their community, and instead of listening or compromising, they banned everyone who spoke out. This happened multiple times until the species inevitably lost its community entirely.

I see this echoed with Succubuns and Terraliens most, which are also the CS with the most active dedicated vent blogs.

If you run a species, and you’re afraid of having it come up on vent blogs? The biggest thing you can do is learn to take criticism well. Someone saying they think your species could use more FTO-friendly mechanics isn’t personally attacking you. Someone saying that MYO approvals are too nitpicky and inconsistent isn’t trying to insult you.

Obviously, sometimes, even species that do their best will end up on vent blogs if they piss off the wrong person, but in the end, pissing off one person who posts one vent or leaves your species individually is better than pissing off an entire community to the point where they make a whole dedicated blog to let out the criticism you refuse to accept face-to-face.

I created a species years ago, one that no one had looked into on DA back when it still fun to post there. A friend of mine gave me a TH code so that I could move everything over before the Eclipse takeover, and after I moved, I found out that someone had literally copied my species trait from trait, and even the name was near identical.

It was quite the shock, because the person who ripped off my species was actually a pretty good artist and I was a literal nobody, I didn't think that anyone would actually rip off my ideas as shamelessly as they did. I wanted to say something to them, but in the end I just let it go and dropped working on anything species related for the last five years because of it.

Today, I was randomly going through some files I had on my old PC and found my old species trait sheets and mascots, and it sparked something into me to start working on and recreating species again. I'm going to work on building back up what I once had, especially now that we have CharacterHub to work with.

For anyone defending coy with the excuse "they just wanted to make adopts"

In the VC on the night things blew up staff confirmed that coy would BLOCK/reject many of changes requested by the community

Its not only because of a schedule, they also limited alot of new things terras could have gotten earlier because it would hurt their pockets

Do you think coy would charge 200$ on limited terralien customs with limited traits had a way to be achieved for free? Or allow traits community wished for that at the moment only they could use? It's more then just making "emergency" adopts

i also got info from a mod that coy would make illegal terras and then upon being told they were illegal, ask mods to fix it instead of doing it themself. apparently one of their gacha terras (im assuming this one) had a dripping visor, and when mods told them thats not allowed, they told mods to fix it

temul also said last night that they actually had to change trait restrictions because coy would just make illegal terras; this terra caused them to have to edit the restrictions on terrarium body, as previously it wasnt allowed to have the terrarium stomach like this

it seems to me like coy just really didnt give a fuck about any part of the species and just wanted to make money, regardless of if they were following design rules correctly or giving mods a hard time

(and as a side note, its pretty funny looking at coys designs on the ML in chronological order and seeing just how fucking lazy they got. just compare page 1 to page 7, or hell, just compare their designs from the first gacha to the most recent gacha. this is almost as bad of an art regression as puppychan)

yeah i really hate how they flipped back so easily, especially after so many of them were really aggravated by the species and allowing illegal terras to flood the ML. i feel like at that point you should just let the species die on principle?

It's actually the funniest thing ever to see everyone come out of the woodworks to say fuck terras when this species was so positive it was toxic to the point you'd get jumped if you said anything slightly bad abt the species for everyone and they mama to come out and be a hater. Its like seeing a group of conservative Christians in a strip club doing lines and wearing little to no clothing like it's the funniest thing ever.

Man! Fuck Coy lmfao, I don't care what Coy has to say. The species is going to die because of Coys' greed, ego, and narc behavior. Even though Coy made a BIG deal about leaving closed species, not even months later they started working on their own semi-open closed species again called "Grubs" or something, just weird anthros with mandibles LOL PLEASE, what a fuckin hypocrite. It's a cycle at this point with them. Disgusting.

I used to have Coys back a few months ago but not anymore, I'm tired of the constant drama they involve themselves in.

the thing is too they still had support after the psa, if they had just left like they said they would then none of this would have blown up in the way it currently is

Hello Terra Server, This is not the announcement we were hoping to make today. We are deeply saddened to inform you that many of us will no longer be acting as your staff, most if not all of us will be departing over what remains of the month as we finish up our loose ends.

Some members will be staying to finish up their trades and customs as needed, we will be removing some of the work that we provided for the site as per the requests of the artists, so we apologize for the broken images and missing art. Some staff may be staying on to see what they can still do for all of you, we left it up to individual decision.

Over the past few days there have been some conflicts with Coy over the ownership of the species, and as a result we have been informed that our head admins, Temul and Avilusol, do not actually own the species as was announced in November of last year.

This conflict stemmed from us asking Coy to follow species rules and a schedule for posting so that we were not overtaxing our members with adopts. This escalated until it was communicated to staff that we should not have been hired in the first place because we did not agree with them, and that ownership and ultimate decision and control still belonged to Coy.

We requested that Coy step down from ownership so that we could help the species move forward. Coy has declined and has decided to maintain control of the species. As such, many of us will be resigning. We do not feel comfortable continuing to work in an environment where we are lied to, pressured to obey despite our best interests for the community, and treated as though we are disposable.

We are deeply upset and disappointed it has come to this, as we had many many improvements planned, such as a crafting system, items to allow limited traits, potential new games on site, as well as allowing feral Terraliens as an option to our community. These things been in discussion for quite some time, but many haven’t been able to come to fruition under ruling.

We deeply apologize for everything these past few days, we fought hard for a better outcome, but this seems like the end of the road. We cannot even begin to say how much this community means to us, and we deeply apologize for what’s happened.

I agree. the mods weren’t wrong on this one. It’s extremely tone deaf to try to wave off the discussion on an ongoing genocide with your fucking cat. Talk literally anywhere else instead of speaking over a discussion of the war in Gaza, and then doubling down when called out for it.
