Autistic Gansey???
richard gansey iii is so. autism coded in a way that is definitely not on purpose but let me explain my thoughts:
The way his mannerisms and voice changes so easily and so drastically, ie the Gansey The Boy persona vs the President Cellphone appearance. My guy is just perfect at masking. In Dream Thieves he is able to handle himself in that room of strangers and, from Adams POV, very easily ‘becomes’ the kind of person and conversationalist that best fits the other person or people.
His trouble with social awareness in a way that shows his understanding of other people’s perspective is purposefully learned. In BLLB when Blue becomes mad at him after they are out on a late drive and he lends Henry his cell he says “I’m trying to see things from your point of view but I’m having a very difficult time”. This kind of relation to where other people are coming from is not a natural skill and something he takes time to develop.
The “nobody knows who Ned Kelly is” and “Who rips out repugnant?” bits of dialogue (both, interestingly enough, from mister Autism Adam himself) that again show his difficulty gauging where other people’s understandings of his interests line up with his own. His ‘agelessness’ where he is seen as both young and old at the same time; Many autistic people have heard comments of being “mature for your age” or “an old soul” or the opposite of being “young at heart”. I know this is ‘cause he’s got freaky ley line history but the way his chronology doesn’t line up with what is considered “typical”
Glendower / Welsh History special interest duh
Comorbidity between autism and insomnia (Him and Ronan’s insomnia and his little Henrietta model)
It’s stated multiple times about Ronan that he values their friendship because Ronan never lies, Ronan is honest, etc etc. Ronan also doesn’t hold much care for pointless social conventions. This is also a case for Ronan Autism but as it relates to Gansey I believe he treasures these traits because, based on his need to be all these different versions of himself, Gansey is always lying and putting on a show. IMO this more raw, honest version of Gansey is closer to his true self, but a self he cannot be.
IDK how universal this is but orientation in physical space? He’s not klutzy but he’s not really graceful. Specifically in TRB he says, on flying, “He seemed to lack the important ability to orient himself vertically as well as horizontally, which led to disagreements involving trees”
His obsession with the Camero and preserving the integrity of it, like the specific run-down way it functions, the paint job, the leather, seems like its an important piece of sensory input for him. It also is, again, a tool that represents his masking (all the times he’s said that the Camero is who he is on the inside)
This is kind of a stretch but the near constant chewing on or rubbing the mint leaves, personally that sounds like sensory hell but hey, to each his own.
im sure there are many more but i’m interested to see if anyone else has thought of this before and there are points to add…

OC story and development
Hey there!  This is just a post I’m using to structure my thoughts on my Rockland OC thus far.  Just why I made certain decisions and whatnot.  Doing it in a little Q&A style to see if I can practice giving some more concise answers too honestly.
1. Why make Sasha a business major/administrative assistant?
Not exciting I know, but I just felt this would be a realistic career path for her to take if she’s more interested in just being able to work literally anywhere.  Any type of business requires this type of management somewhere.  I’m not a business major myself, but I know enough stuff about administrative work (orders, emails, meetings, finances, etc.).  Doesn’t make it too difficult to imagine stuff she can do, but it also likely isn’t the type of profession people will be super eager to ask questions about.  That way, I shouldn’t have to worry about going into depth and being too inaccurate.
Yes, I could have made her study marine science like I did, but part of this creative writing process is practicing with elements outside my expertise.  You can’t give EVERY single character you make the same exact job you have anyway.  Not unless your stories are incredibly creative.  Creators will also put in more research about a field they want to use in a story I know, but I’m being a little lazy here with that.
2. Why is she 23 pre-time skip?
Three reasons.  One, I simply like middle range numbers.  For instance, I know two of the Misfits pre-time skip are 20 years old, while two more at 25.  The Misfits I consider as main cast in the Rockland series, so this puts her closer to their ages.  She’s not the youngest or oldest here though.
The second reason is because I thought it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to consider a 23 year old moving out on their own.  That’s not an easy feat these days I know, so there are other factors here such as her attending her hometown’s college to save money and just...literally having worked her but off during summers and 2 years after college to save up.
The final reason is because I feel like it’s a decent age where Sasha will view herself as a fully grown adult (especially since she’s performing this move), but forgets sometimes that she’s actually still pretty young.  I don’t know if I’m going to be portraying this well in my writing, but what I’m going for with Sasha is a fairly mature character that doesn’t realize she still gets drawn to the unusual.  In Rockland, it’s possible she may also be naive enough to believe that making a big deal out of too many things would be viewed as childish.  She doesn’t want to be viewed as a child, but she has a strong conscience when it comes to things that are messed up.  So that’s supposed to put her at odds sometimes.
3. Were Sasha’s choices the first blind run of both RoR games so far?
Yep!  RoR Article 1 there was no debate about my satisfaction with her choices.  RoR 2 was a little more difficult to decide whether to go with the first blind run only because there’s so many different things that could happen in that game.  In the end I decided to go with the first run because it was still the best fit for her character.
The only thing in the blind run that could have been different, was Sasha could have easily said she got the feeling a lot of drug deals happen vs. people getting away with a lot.  That’s just because these two statements actually came off as similar to me.  She met Tyler previously, so of course the drugs would have been on her mind.  I also considered both the drunks being beaten up and the drug peddling could have been lumped together though with the second choice about people getting away with a lot.  So yeah, I just went with the choice that was more all inclusive.
4. Any other people you would have liked Sasha to connect with a little better?
I’m sure getting Tyler’s phone number would have been great just to have a contact around town who knew places, but Sasha won’t do drugs so that was not going to happen, haha.
I actually wouldn’t have minded if she got a little more on Foal’s good side.  I don’t know why, I just feel like that would be a smart move.  You have to help Callum yourself to have that happen though, and Sasha won’t jump into a fight like that if it’s just her.
5. Any information you would have liked Sasha to learn?
I was so close, and that’s part of why there was a debate, but I passed up on her learning that Tyler is a DOCTOR.  You can imagine how insane that would have sounded, and I might have ended up writing the second Life in Rockland post as another conversation between Sasha and Pierce because of that.  Pierce would have been ALL OVER the idea of a doctor selling drugs.  “So like...does that mean he’s morally obligated to go through all the side effects being he sells you his stash?”  “Do his drugs then come in prescription bottles?”  Sasha would not have appreciated any of these questions, haha.
But actually MORE SO than learning that Tyler is a doctor, I am super disappointed that Sasha didn’t learn about the Irish Mafia.  Now THAT would have really been something to think about at the end of the night.  Not exactly the authority figures she was hoping were in charge of the town.  Definitely would have made her both super curious but also really nervous.  Alas, not only would she not have helped Callum by herself, but even with the second options she would have been more likely to press about Scarlet rather than Sergio (you have to ask about Sergio to learn it’s the Irish mafia running the place).  That’s because she would have been a little more curious about beastkin.
6. Any chance of Pierce showing up in person?
Not likely?  I’m having Sasha move within the Rumors of Rockland storyline, and there’s only room for one OC there.  It’s supposed to be about one character on their own in a brand new place that has a lot of secrets.  Throwing another character into that mix would be tricky.  Even just visiting might be too much of an interruption.
Pierce has two functions.  One is fun banter Sasha can have as well as another person she can bounce ideas off of with.  He also gives an outside perspective.  Some things that Sasha may be cautious about, Pierce might sway her to be a little more open.  There could also be cases though where Sasha might end up becoming compliant about something in Rockland (the longer she lives there) that Pierce might end up pointing out is...very strange or not okay.
The other function is Pierce always serves as a solid lifeline to the outside world.  He’s a reminder that Sasha has other people outside of Rockland who will notice if something happens to her.  Yes, Sasha has a mother and father that also love her and she’s on good terms with.  But I feel like Pierce would end up being the first person to notice or take action if something seemed off.  I know it’s not necessary because the main character in Rumors of Rockland is not intended to ever end up in any kind of danger.  There will be other games where the MC may not even have the possibility to survive, so RoR serves as the scenario for what it’s like to successfully integrate into Rockland.  Still, Pierce is a nice extra precaution ;)

Our Broken Judicial System
Kyle’s case: A Judicial Disgrace
Chapter One: And so it begins.......
As Americans, we are taught to respect and trust our judicial officers. We believe judges and commissioners are honest, trustworthy and fair to all. They take an oath to defend our Constitution, right? They’re supposed to follow our laws, as they are written, to rule without opinion, to be unbiased and search for truth. They are suppose to make their rulings based on facts and evidence. Prosecutors were the legal representatives of the people, the protectors that rid communities of criminals to keep everyone safe. We are taught to believe that prosecutors are honest. There are rules that they are to follow, procedures, law and they are to perform their duties with integrity while safeguarding the rights and liberties of all. It is shocking and unbelievable to learn that there are judges that cannot be trusted, to learned that prosecutors place their conviction rate above all else and despicable to discover that defense attorneys do little to nothing to defend their clients. How is this possible? This story comes straight from the court record and is documented for all to verify.
Our judicial system is no longer working. It needs not only to be overhauled, it needs to be drained of all the bad actors. Judges and Commissioners need to be monitored in everything they do in the courtroom and it must be transparent to the public.
This is the story of one man’s decent into hell. His story is shocking and it undermines the trust that should never be broken between the public and our judicial officers. How can a society function safely if our trust is compromised? Our judicial system exists for only one reason, to keep the public safe.
There are twists and turns, there are facts that will make you shake your head in disbelief.
Kyle met Douangchay Nelson in early January 2008. She was exotic and mysterious. She was among the “A” crowd in the clubs of downtown Seattle. She lived in a high rise building just a block away from the club where these two met. You could set your watch to when she’d arrive and how long she’d stayed. She knew everyone that frequented these clubs, and was fully aware of the goings on there. She had been going to these clubs since turning 21 years old and at the time she met Kyle, her age was 32. Kyle, on the other hand, wasn’t the clubbing type and had only been a few times. Douangchay was also fully aware when a new face showed up in the crowd, after all, she’d been a fixture there for over ten years. That fateful night Douangchay was being pursued by another man, and while dancing, she grabbed Kyle’s arm and lied to the other man. She told the other man that Kyle was her boyfriend. As the evening went on, Kyle and Douangchay danced and talked. At the end of the night, Kyle asked to walk her home. She agreed and they spent that night and the whole of the following day together. They exchanged phone numbers and Kyle went home. A little over 30 days later, Douangchay had moved Kyle into her high rise apartment. This is how their relationship began. Getting himself entangled with the woman would be Kyle’s undoing.
After a few months, Kyle discovered that Douangchay had a young son, who was obviously not in her life. When Kyle asked about her boy, she would become irritated and change the subject. Kyle didn’t understand, and she blamed her son’s father. She told Kyle that he was abusive. Kyle had no reason to believe she would lie about this. He took her at her word.
It wasn’t long after and Kyle discovered Douangchay was, also still married. What is known is that she married in 2001 and according to her, her husband, like the father of her son, was abusive, also. (Are you starting to see a pattern?) Kyle felt bad for this poor woman that had been through so much. He could not have been more wrong about her.
Throughout the first two years, the relationship was pretty much like their first night. They, together now, frequented the clubs downtown. Douangchay, despite having a boyfriend, refused to change her need to spend Thursday through Sunday in the clubs. When Kyle suggested they do something other than clubbing, she would becoming angry and a ‘How dare you suggest I do something other than go to the clubs’, attitude would emerge. It became the root of almost every argument they had throughout the entire eight (8) years of their relationship. Kyle, many times, went along just to save an argument. She was adamant that going to the club was never to be trifled with, no exceptions allowed.
January 30, 2010, a Saturday, was slightly different because on this night the couple was invited to a party at a sports bar about 15 miles from where they lived. Kyle knew none of Douangchay friends that would be attending this party, so he agreed to be the driver and let her do as much partying as she desired. She started drinking before they left their apartment. Kyle stayed sober. As the night went on, Kyle couldn’t help but notice that Douangchay was drinking in excess. He’d never seen her drink like this before. She was challenging others to “drink them under the table” and within an hours time, she consumed no less than six shots of hard alcohol. She was becoming more and more inebriated and obnoxious, both in word and action. She was stumbling and slurring her words. Kyle started to watch closer at this point. He asked her to slow down with her drinking and this enraged her. She started calling Kyle names, telling the others that Kyle was her “gay boyfriend”. Embarrassed by her behavior, Kyle knew he needed to get her home to bed so she could sleep this off. Outside the bar, Kyle finally convinced her to let him take her home. The couple went back inside and told the party their good byes. Kyle helped Douangchay into his Jeep and they started for home.
On that ride, Douangchay started her ranting and raving once again. She called him “gay” and “a piece of shit”. Kyle told her she was drunk and to be quiet and her response to that was, “The only reason your ex girlfriend stayed with you is because she was fat, ugly and insecure”. Kyle ignored her verbal attack and she turned into something Kyle had never seen, nor dealt with, in his life. She began a physical attack scratching and hitting him; screaming, calling him a “piece of shit”. She was completely out of control, and Kyle had to stop her before she caused an accident. Yes, Kyle was driving at the time of this attack. Kyle grabbed for her and got ahold of her hair. He placed her head near the dashboard until he could safely come to a stop. This would later be used against him by the prosecution. Douangchay then opened the door of the vehicle and stumbled out. Kyle, in shock, drove his vehicle around the corner and parked it in the parking lot of their apartment complex. This attack happened just a half block from where they lived. Still reeling from what just happened, Kyle left, on foot. He needed to clear his head. Never in his life had he witnessed such behavior. He was hurt and mixed with emotions. He walked around for over two hours and had no idea that a person saw Douangchay stumbling around and called 911, thinking she could be hurt. EMS and police were dispatched to her. According to the police report, Douangchay refused to cooperate, and only admitted to calling Kyle gay. She left out the part where she physically attacked him. The police took her home. There is no way possible that the police could not have known that she was extremely intoxicated.
After clearing his head, Kyle decided to go home, he started to truly believe that the lady he had come to love would be apologetic. He believed she’d be remorseful for her behavior and they would be able to talk about what happened. He would be wrong, once again. He underestimated Douangchay’s rage. When Kyle opened the door to their apartment, all was quiet. Their bedroom door, just to the right of the front door, was closed. They lived there alone, so this was odd, that bedroom door was never closed. Kyle walked through the living room, past the kitchen and into the dining room. He sat with his back toward the bedroom door and proceeded in taking off his shoes. His plan was to sleep on the sofa and talk to Douangchay when she slept off her drunk. This was not to be. Seconds later, the bedroom door flew open and Douangchay sprinted toward Kyle, slapping and scratching at his head, back and shoulders. Kyle was in total disbelief. He stood up with arms flailing about trying to defend off this second attack. He made contact, with her face, arms and upper body, numerous times. All the while Douangchay yelling, “Are you happy now you hit a girl?” She was, in no way, going to take responsibility for her own actions. Kyle was dumbfounded by her behavior and her blaming him for all of this. It was like she was possessed. Douangchay, by her own admission, in the police report, ran out of the door and started pounding on the neighbor’s door. When she received no reply, she re-entered their apartment. (It must be noted: The police asked Douangchay this question: Did he stop you from leaving?” And her reply was: “yes”. This was a contradiction of her statement made just seconds before. Clearly, if she was able to leave and beat on a neighbor’s door, she was able to leave all together) Upon re-entering the apartment, she ran to the bedroom, threw open the window and started screaming, “Help! A man is hitting me!” It’s very telling that she chose those words. Her using “a man” instead of “my boyfriend” is a classic projecting behavior.
Kyle was arrested, placed in jail and like Douangchay’s husband in 2002, Kyle agreed to a Stipulated Order of Continuance.
Kyle was not an abuser. Douangchay Nelson née Suannoy was, in fact, the abuser. Kyle was not her first victim nor her second, Kyle Collins was her third victim. All these men had only one common denominator, a very intoxicated Douangchay.
Chapter Two: Who is Douangchay, really?...
According to court records, Douangchay Nelson, née Suannoy was quite busy in her younger years. It is believed that she came to the United States in 1991 or 1992. She was 15 years old. She met a young man, we’ll call him Adam, and soon after they were parents to a baby boy. They tried for a couple years to make this relationship work, but when their son was two years old, it ended. She blames everything on Adam. “He was abusive”, she says. It’s unclear as to the truth of exactly what happened. It is true that Douangchay walked away from her toddler son and, if there is truth told by her, she left the boy with an “abusive” father. Adam has been interviewed on several occasions in preparation of writing this story and his account of events differ greatly from hers. No surprise there.
It’s very important to add a bit of information here. Douangchay is not a U.S. citizen, she holds a “green card” here in this country. A “green card” can be revoked if certain conditions arise. Giving a fake name in the commission of committing a crime, to law enforcement, is a serious crime and doing this can jeopardize the ability to maintain the “green card” status. A person can be deported for this offense. There are also laws about moral turpitude that can come into play. Things like abandoning a child, not paying child support and DUI, are all crimes of turpitude. Douangchay is guilty of many deportable offenses, as will become apparent in the next few paragraphs. Everything was kept from Kyle. For eight years he slept next to this woman, became engaged to be married to this woman and had a beautiful daughter with this woman. She, her family, and her numerous friends, all hid these facts from Kyle.
On February 4, 1998, charges of attempted possession of stolen property 2 were filed in King County, Washington District Court West Division, a class C felony, against “Vanessa” Suannoy. Yes, she, throughout this whole case used her alias. When the judge referred her to the Office of Public Defense, (hereafter OPD) on February 17, 1998, “Vanessa” failed to report to them. If she wanted a free lawyer, a screening would need to be done. These screening include showing identification and proof of income. Had she have reported to the OPD, it would have come to light that her true name, was in fact, Douangchay Suannoy, at this time. A prosecutor would have been, according to law, forced to add another charge. Knowingly making a false or misleading material statement to a police officer in violation of RCW 9A.76.175. The State would have had to charge her with refusal to give a name or address, or giving a false name or address under the specific statute of RCW 46.61.020. The likelihood of the judge allowing her plea to be reduced, after giving a false name, is not very likely. When a person gives false information, judges take it as the defendant is hiding truth, as they should. So, “Vanessa” Suannoy pleaded guilty to the charge and received a deferred prosecution. She was placed on probation for 12 months and a small fine was imposed. March 11, 1999, a review of the case would be held. This review was held, as scheduled, “Vanessa” did not show up, the court reviewed the case and she did not pay her fine. April 1, 1999, court reviewed again, defendant present. The court gave her another chance to get this right, yet on the last review, held on May 27, 1999, “Vanessa” again, is a no show. A warrant for her arrest was issued through 2002 and again through 2004. She was found guilty of both charges. By this time “Vanessa” Suannoy no longer existed. In November of 2001, “Vanessa” Suannoy married Scott David Nelson and she became Douangchay Nelson.
Douangchay Suannoy was arrested on February 22, 2000 and charged with DUI. This time she used her true name. She had an actual warrant still in King County, but because they were under different names, the authorities didn’t put two and two together. Douangchay skated right past the felony warrant.
Scott David Nelson was 24 years old when he married Douangchay Suannoy. On the marriage license she split her first name in two parts. So, literally, Scott married Douang Chay. Because of her behavior towards Kyle, we have to wonder if Scott knew about her criminal history. She was on probation at the time they married. The couple lived in bliss for a full year and just after their first anniversary, the honeymoon was definitely over. November 28, 2002, Scott and Douangchay clashed. According to police records, the couple were having marital problems. Douangchay was staying with her friend, drinking and partying. Douangchay called Scott at 5:00 a.m. asking him to come pick her up. Scott, still in bed, got up and drove to where his wife was staying. It was a little over two miles from their own home. The record reflects that she had, in fact, been drinking. The similarities between the incidents of Scott and Kyle are uncanny. Scott and Kyle were both driving a very intoxicated Douangchay home. In both cases alcohol played a huge roll. Both men were sober. In Scott’s case, the incident happened a 25 minute walk from the couple’s apartment. The police report states that Douangchay walked back to the apartment, while calling her friend, and asking her friend to call police. Douangchay was already at the apartment when her friend showed up. QUESTION: Why would a grown woman return to a place where a man she “fears” is known to be? It took her 25 minutes to get to Scott, if she truly feared, wouldn’t it be more likely to return to her friends house instead of going to where her “abuser” is? See, this just locks in the notion that Douangchay isn’t fearful at all, on the contrary, Douangchay likes to keep arguments going. She was angry, because like Kyle, Scott didn’t like the drinking and partying that Douangchay insisted on doing. Scott states that his wife punched him in the face, but she is not arrested. Scott goes to jail, is place on a Stipulated Order of Continuance, probation and treatment, all at his expense. I wonder if Scott, like Kyle, continued to live with Douangchay through his court case. Did she go, with her advocate, sit on the side of the prosecutor and then return home with Scott, acting as if nothing happened? And an even more important question: had Kyle been made aware of Scott’s fate with Douangchay, would Kyle have continued his relationship with this woman? The answer is clear, no man would continue a relationship with a woman if he knew that she brought domestic violence charges against two other men before they met. Douangchay knew this and chose, instead, to hide her past from Kyle.
Chapter Three: the saga continues…
Kyle and Douangchay continued on with their relationship. Kyle, blind to who he was with and Douangchay hiding her past from him. The relationship was tumultuous. We have to remember, Kyle agreed to a Stipulated Order of Continuance in 2010. Kyle and Scott both didn’t want Douangchay to get into trouble. They took blame to save her. Douangchay went before the court three separate times asking that the no contact order be lifted and saying “Kyle is not a danger to me”. She refused to cooperate with the prosecution and continued living with Kyle throughout. Together, they lied to the court and gave a friends address where court records could be sent. The conditions of Kyle’s SOC, like Scott’s, were: Treatment, probation, pay recoupment to public defender, pay costs, no new criminal violation during the period of the Continuance. Kyle complied with each and every condition. By April 29, 2012, the date of expiration of the SOC, Kyle had complied with each and every condition. But, the prosecution wanted more. The Redmond City Prosecutor filed a Motion for Revocation of the SOC on June 26, 2012. He “sewer served”. Sewer service is defined as: “Sewer service is an epithet for the intentional failure to provide service of process on a named party in a lawsuit, in order to prevent the party from having a chance to respond. The phrase refers to the figure of speech of throwing the documents into a sewer”. The prosecution had Kyle’s address. Kyle filed a “New address” with the court on July 18, 2011, through his probation officer, James OShersky, a full 11 months prior to the prosecution’s Motion for Revocation. This document was marked “confidential”. It’s astonishing to find these two facts in the court record. Stopping to these levels is hard to believe, but it’s true. This was not discovered until recently. Coupled with the sewer service, this stinks of abuse on the part of the prosecution.
Stipulated Order of Continuance, otherwise known as SOC, is an agreement between the prosecutor and the defendant in a case. These are granted and overseen by the court, but the court is not a party to them. The court only becomes a party if a Motion for Revocation is filed by the prosecution for violation of the agreement. SOCs are used to give a first time offender a chance to have the charges dismissed if the defendant jumps through the prosecutor’s hoops. In Kyle’s case, the SOC looks a bit different. Why? Because it contains the words “approximately 24 months”. A competent defense attorney would not have allow this phrase if his/her client was offered an SOC. This phrase negates the fairness that’s required in any agreement and deems this document “void for vagueness” as law requires. “Approximately” is not allowed according to the rule book. Kyle’s case follows the rules outlined in LCrRLJ 8.3(c)(1-17) . This rule is in place to protect the parties interests, both parties. In this rule, it is very clear about the contents of minimum requirements in an SOC. The language, “A clear statement…” is what starts every content of (c)1-17. Number 6 is relevant to Kyle’s case and states; “A clear statement of the period of the Continuance, which shall be no more than 2 years”. The “approximately”, leaves the agreement open-ended. In a criminal case of any kind, everything that transpires, has to be clearly spelled out. There’s no room for interpretation.
Kyle jumped through every hoop in this case, despite his innocence. He signed the SOC on April 29, 2010; this means it expired on April 29, 2012, right? Think again. The prosecution filed the revocation on June 26, 2012. How is this possible? The SOC was expired. Let us go back to the first two paragraphs of this story. Prosecutors cannot be trusted. Prosecutors want convictions and they’ll do anything to get them. They will “sewer service”, undermine procedure, push rules aside and, they will also make sure that documents that blow apart their cases, are marked in the record, as “confidential”. Due process of law is not high on their priority list. This places the public in jeopardy. If prosecutors cannot be trusted, then who can we trust in our judicial system? The judges job is to verify all procedures have been followed. Not one judge, in Kyle’s case, verified anything.
Oh wait, it gets worse.
This case took place in Redmond, Washington, a city just northeast and across Lake Washington, from Seattle. The prosecutor was Richard Lawrence Mitchell, wsba # 21606. In his Motion for Revocation, he accuses Kyle of not paying costs and not completing treatment. Both of these accusations were false. Mitchell was running for election to become a judge in 2010 and this is a powerful motive to bolster his conviction rate. This motion should have died right there, but it did not. Judge Michael Finkle set a hearing for July 25, 2012. He placed Holly Joy Johnson a Pro Tem Judge to preside over the hearing (NOTE: This was copied and pasted from the WSBA Page: Holly Joy Johnson, WSBA No.32784, admitted 2002, of Seattle, “..resigned in lieu of discipline, effective 9/19/2017. The lawyer agrees that she is aware of the alleged misconduct in disciplinary counsel’s Statement of Alleged Misconduct and rather than defend against the allegations, she wishes to permanently resign from membership in the Association. The Statement of Alleged Misconduct reflects the following violations of the Rules of Professional Conduct: 1.15A (Safeguarding Property), 3.4 (Fairness to Opposing Party and Counsel), 8.1 (Bar Admission and Disciplinary Matters), 8.4 (Misconduct). Sachia Stonefeld Powell and Kathy Jo Blake acted as disciplinary counsel. Holly Joy Johnson represented herself. Karen A. Clark was the hearing officer. Andrekita Silva was the settlement hearing officer. The online version of NWLawyer contains a link to the following document: Resignation Form of Holly Joy Johnson (ELC 9.3(b)).as made to resign for unethical behavior by the Washington State Bar Association). Kyle was a no-show and a warrant for his arrest issued. Well, surprise, surprise. He never received notice of this hearing. Mitchell sent the notice to a wrong address. So, a warrant was issued by judge pro tem Norm Leopold. Leopold, like Johnson, assumed Prosecutor Mitchell had done his job. These part-time judges never looked at this case, they blindly believed Mitchell. These judges rely on the prosecutors to do their jobs. They believe every word prosecutors say and they almost never question them. In this case, the judge did no fact finding. He never questioned Mitchell. He should have.
Mitchell never received a non-compliance letter from the probation department. No non-compliance from the treatment agency. Kyle paid over a thousand dollars, by this time, to the court. The SOC says to Pay $350.00 costs by 180 days, but the problem with this SOC, yet again, is that it doesn’t clearly state to whom this cost should be paid. Like the “approximately” language, this does not follow the minimum requirements of content in an SOC agreement. It’s confusing, and Mitchell likes when defendant’s and their inexperienced defense attorneys are confused. In researching this case, many SOC documents were discovered that were exactly the same form used in Kyle’s case. Mitchell was in the habit of used that document for many defendants. The rules about content of SOCs were revised in 2008, but Mitchell chose to continue using it and no judge objected to this.
Kyle’s warrant sat for 77 days, until he was pulled over for a minor traffic infraction. To Kyle’s utter shock, the police officer came back with his license and the news of this warrant. The officer had no other choice but to arrest. Kyle was taken into custody in Shoreline and the transfer to Redmond. Kyle and Douangchay were still living together at this time, and they were pregnant. Their daughter was due in January 2013. Kyle was arrested on October 10, 2012. Kyle was arraigned on October 11 without an attorney present. The court docket states, “Defendant present in-custody Pro se”, then it states “Counsel Trishana Ellis present on behalf of defendant”, but Trishana Ellis isn’t a lawyer. The Washington State Bar Association has no record of a Trishana Ellis holding a license to practice law. Now, the original two noncompliance violations became three, 107 days after the SOC had expired, they decided to add yet another non-compliance violation, to bolster they weak case. This Pro Tem Judge, like Pro Tem Holly Joy Johnson, was Darrell Phillipson. This Pro Tem judge resigned his license to practice law in Washington, as did Linda Jacke, the judge for whom Phillipson was sitting in place of that day. Oh yes, three (3) judges that sat on Kyle’s case were made to resign. Little fishy, wouldn’t you say?. This time they added “pending assault 4 and malicious mischief”. The problem with this is very simple, this pending case happened 8 days after the SOC had expired. It did not fall in the period of the SOC, at all. You would have thought that the defense law firm would have argued this at the last hearing, on November 15, 2012, before the conviction, but they did not and this is why this law firm can be described as incompetent, unfit, and negligent.
The law firm that represented Kyle throughout this case was Stein, Lotzkar & Starr? Elissa Brine represented at the SOC Hearing and she is to blame for the substandard SOC. Interestingly, just 12 days before Kyle was arrested, the law firm officially withdrew from the case. They stated, in their motion, that they attempted to contact Kyle, but didn’t succeed. Kyle could have been contacted easily, he kept the same phone number for over 15 years. Whatever the law firm said in that motion to withdraw, is suspicious, to say the least. The prosecution says Kyle admitted to this pending assault charge. This is true. The prosecution, court judges and defense allowed Kyle to be railroaded in this case. They did nothing to stop this.
November 15, 2012, Kyle was convicted on both charges of domestic violence. He was an innocent man that was only defending himself for a physical attack, by a woman that had done this twice before, to two other men. This woman, a brazen alcoholic, dangerous to anyone that crosses her path while she’s under the influence of alcohol. Again, corrupt Holly Joy Johnson sat in judgment and imposed sentencing. In between conviction and sentencing, they did figure out the Kyle did complete treatment, but that is as far as they would go. It was an after thought. Kyle was sentenced to:
• 12 months suspended, court imposes jail time of 364 days on charge 1 with 359 days suspended, and 5 days credit for time served.
• Total Imposed on charge 1 with $5000 suspended and $338.00 other amount ordered
• monitored unsupervised probation for 3 months,
• Final review Monitored probation for 9 months.
• FNL Review set for August 15, 2013.
• Finding/Judgment of Guilty deferred prosecution revoked for charge 2
• Judge Pro Tem Johnson, Holly Imposed sentence
• Court imposes jail time of 364 days on charge 2 with 359 days suspended, and 5 days credit for time served
• Total imposed on charge 2: with $5000 suspended and
• $0.00 other amount ordered
This case has been used to destroy the relationship between Kyle and his daughter. This is just the beginning, this story continues with more twists and turns. There are other prosecutors, judges, commissioners and lawyers that will be named......
Part two: demented behavior doesn’t come close……
Time went by fast and after Snohomish County Legal Services and all their goon lawyers used the above King Co. District court case to destroy a father/daughter relationship, Kyle looked into the case further. All the years that past, Kyle thought that it was handled the right way. He had no idea of the sewer service, adding a new charge and convicting him of this new charge. He had no idea that the prosecution and his own defense attorney had screwed him over at every turn.
An argument ensued in February of 2019, with the King County District Court Records Department to release the “New Address filed” filed in July 2011. After multiple emails, the records department sent the request to Judge Lisa Paglisotti. She read the emails and signed for this document to be public, she removed the confidential status. This is when it came to light that Kyle was, in fact, sewer served. Proof was right there, no question, in black and white. So, Kyle took some time, gathered documents and wrote a motion. He filed the motion on April 11, 2019. This motion brought up a question of jurisdiction. Jurisdiction is only established if a defendant is properly served. The prosecution is obligated to prove they served. In Kyle’s case, they did not serve, nor did they file any kind of “proof of service” in any form. The motion was sent to Judge Lisa Paglisotti for review. It sat with her for 27 days before “Motion hearing set to give the city a chance to respond” was her decision. The prosecution did not respond, but waited until the hearing. This time is was Prosecuting Attorney Stefani Snow (wsba #28100) and Judge Rhonda Laumann (wsba #22126) that went up against Kyle. It may sound a bit off by saying the judge was against Kyle, but it’s true. Rhonda Laumann, sitting on the bench, acted like a prosecutor. She did not, in any way, act like an impartial judge. Stefani Snow said little until the end when she stated that Kyle admitted to the new charge pending that ultimately convicted him. Laumann argued with Kyle about the wording of the Stipulated Order of Continuance. She denied that the language was, in fact, “approximately 24 months”. Kyle argued right back. He told this judge that the “new charge pending” did not fall in the period of the continuance and should not have been allowed. Laumann argued even more. She looked and found another reason to throw out the motion. She used an excuse that there was a time limit of one year. This judge was hell bent to get Kyle out of her courtroom, and she did just that.
Jurisdiction is paramount in criminal law. It establishes authority of the court to rule in a case. Without jurisdiction, a court’s hands are tied. For jurisdiction, in any court, to be established, service of process must be proven by the party bringing it. This means the State must serve the defendant all charging documents, including, but not limited to Motions, notice to appear, etc. The prosecution did not do this, therefore the court did not have personal jurisdiction over Kyle. This was the first issue that Kyle brought in his Motion, it was ignored by Laumann. Whenever a question is brought about jurisdiction, a court is required to investigate. They cannot continue without knowing they have obtain the authority to do so.
This is not an isolated case. When the Redmond City Judicial officers were made to resign, they left, in their wake, a slough of cases that beg to be re-examined.
Part Three…the real motive emerges…
Kyle and Douangchay stayed together through the pregnancy. Their child was born on January 19, 2013. The couple moved Douangchay’s sister and nephew into their home and she took the position of nanny for their daughter. All was good throughout the next 14 months or so, but the sister/nanny decided she wanted to move on and move out. She’d helped out enough and gave Kyle and Douangchay “notice” of her departure.
Now the couple needed to find daycare for their daughter. Douangchay reached out to a friend she had known since her arrival in the U.S. Suphol Phab was her name, but she, like Douangchay went by an alias, “Samantha”. Douangchay hid the fact that “Sam” was a felon and therefore would never be allowed to have a daycare license. Douangchay hid everything that most would find to be critical information, in making the choice on a daycare provider for their child. Kyle would never have agreed to placing his daughter with a felon.
Soon, Douangchay’s need to frequent the clubs, emerged again, and with it came conflict between the couple. Kyle truly believed that becoming a mother, for a second time, would diminish her fixation on these places. Douangchay still was incapable of putting her family, Kyle and their daughter, above herself. Their opposition grew and their relationship would not survive. Douangchay’s threat of taking away their daughter from Kyle was her favorite. She threatened used this every time they had a disagreement and even making jokes about it in front of others. She knew this scared the hell out of Kyle, as it would any parent. Kyle took these threats very serious, after all, Douangchay had strong ties to Southeast Asia. Coupled with Douangchay abandoning her first child, her threats terrified Kyle. He knew she could accomplish her demented threats with little effort and Kyle was desperate, he did a foolish deed, he placed a track devise on her vehicle. He knew he’d lose his child and didn’t care about consequences. The fear of losing his precious daughter is all that matter, he had to act. He was in protect-my-child mode.
Kyle and Douangchay did attend a few couples counseling sessions, in an attempt to fix their relationship, but these failed due to Douangchay’s inability to take responsibility for her own behavior. She blamed Kyle for everything that went wrong between them. Like the men before him, Kyle couldn’t take anymore. He ended the relationship right there, in front of the therapist, and walked out the door. Douangchay persuaded the therapist to call Kyle to get him to return, but Kyle knew it was over. Kyle realized that Douangchay wasn’t interested in mending the relationship, her motives for counseling, were nothing more than getting a professional to agree with her in that Kyle needed to be fixed. The months following were chaotic, emotional and eye opening for Kyle.
The two agreed that they would share time with their daughter, but soon this broke down. Douangchay’s need to be in total control was important than their daughter’s need to have a relationship with her father. She started using their child as a weapon. Kyle tried to appease her, but soon, it became clear that Douangchay was not going to be cooperative in their co-parenting. The communications between these two became impossible, they became engrossed in bad behavior. They engaged in name-calling via text messages, neither one could step away from the other. For six(6) months they fought over everything, not having a nice thing to say to, nor about one another. Kyle was advised by family, to file a parenting plan, but refused saying he knew they could work it out with her. This decision would not be a good one. Douangchay was scheming and collecting, she was going to court for a Restraining order against Kyle.
On August 15, 2016, Kyle walked out of the Snohomish County Courthouse restrained from Douangchay. Because all women must be believed and therefore protected, men are automatically assumed as abusers. Douangchay, in her petition, claimed there were police reports, yet none were submitted. She submitted text messages as proof that Kyle was harassing her. The text messages were edited beyond belief. She omitted her part in them, 90% had no dates attached to them. They were taken out of context and designed to make Kyle look like a monster. Her ploy worked in spades. She stated how “fearful” she was of him. Then, later, the same day Snohomish County Superior Court Commissioner Tracy Waggoner signed the restraining order, Douangchay showed up at Kyle’s residence and attempted to have him arrested. This proving she had no fear of him whatsoever. Witness accounts say Douangchay exited her vehicle, walk up to Kyle and threatened him. Snohomish County Deputy Sheriff Josh Wheeler was dispatched. Deputy Wheeler asked Douangchay to leave Kyle’s residence. Kyle filed for a parenting plan a week later.
Douangchay was determined in her threats and actions to remove Kyle from not only her life, but the life of their daughter. After all, Douangchay knew exactly how the system worked years before she met Kyle. She had gained favor with the court through the restraining order process, and now she went to work to further her plan. From September 2016 through July of 2017, Douangchay went back and forth, from the restraining order to the parenting plan, using false allegations of abuse, to add their child to the restraining order. Just a few days before the parenting plan hearing, she went to the restraining order case and tried to modify it, Ex parte,
Kyle knew nothing of this.
It is important for us to understand what “Ex Parte” is. Black’s Law Dictionary is regarded as the go-to for legal definitions. Lawyers around the country use this dictionary to quote from in their cases. They define “ex parte” as follows:
“On one side only; by or for one party; done for, in behalf of, on the
application of, one party only.”
One source says:
“Ex parte orders are only allowed in certain defined circumstances because they can be unfair and violate the due process requirement of the United States Constitution. ... Most often, ex parte orders are done in cases of domestic violence or child abuse and generally in an emergency situation.”
At the parenting plan hearing, she showed up with a last minute lawyer that knew nothing about the case, but he monopolized the whole hearing. It was Kyle’s petition, yet the commissioner gave the floor to the opposing attorney and disregarded Kyle’s right to plead his case.
Please keep in mind, at this time, Douangchay already had a restraining order on Kyle. By having that, why would there be a need for more? There’s only one reason to place another, and that is what accompanies it, an audience, without opposition, with a judge or Commissioner. A petition for an immediate restraining order eliminates the accused from defending themselves. This is exactly what Douangchay wanted and needed to rid herself of Kyle.
October 3, 2016, Douangchay went back to the restraining order and tried to modify it, she wanted to add their daughter, using an ex parte hearing.
October 5, 2016, again, Douangchay goes to Kyle’s residence and tries to have him arrested. Snohomish County Deputy Sheriff asks her to leave.
October 10, 2017 Douangchay doesn’t show for this hearing. She calls last minute to tell the court clerk. She must have known that her appearance at Kyle’s residence for the second time, had been documented and noted.
Two months went by and things were quiet, but then January 2017 happened.
January 17, 2017 Douangchay, in the parenting plan, filed another ex parte action.
January 26, 2017 Ex Parte action again.
February 15, 2017 yep, one more ex parte action
So, in all these actions, Douangchay had private audience with the following Commissioners:
1) Commissioner Susan Gaer
2) Commissioner Lester Stewart
3) Commissioner Tracy Waggoner
4) Commissioner pro Tem x2, (pro Tem= pro tem
1) adj. short for the Latin "pro tempore", temporarily or for the time being. In law, judge pro tem normally refers to a judge who is sitting temporarily for another judge or to an attorney who has been appointed to serve as a judge as a substitute for a regular judge.
The above ex parte actions accomplished a lot for Douangchay, private audiences with these judicial officials gave her what she loved most, playing victim. But what would occur next is beyond belief.
On May 3, 2017, Douangchay took her antics to a level that puts everything into perspective and explains how demented this woman truly is. She didn’t follow the parenting plan instruction, that day, nor any other day for that matter. She didn’t pick up their daughter as directed by the parenting plan. After both, her and her multi-felon brother attacked and threatened Kyle, through text messages, she called Lynnwood police. Lynnwood police called Kyle and Kyle explained. Lynnwood police were satisfied with Kyle and asked him to give a time and place for Douangchay to pick up their daughter. Kyle did so, 8:00 pm at a public parking lot in Des Moines. Douangchay drove, alone, from Everett all the way to Des Moines, an hour or more. Remember the sister/nanny? She lived five miles away from Kyle, in Kent. Why didn’t Douangchay, if she needed multiple restraining orders for her fear of Kyle, tell Kyle to drop off their daughter with the sister/nanny and she’d pick her up from her? Or, ask the sister/nanny to accompany her to the location? No, Douangchay chose not to do that because she was pissed and wanted any reason to have Kyle arrested. Her intent was clear. Kyle knew not to be alone in this. She tried to have him arrested at his own residence. His girlfriend accompanied him. She drove Kyle and his daughter to the agreed upon location. Douangchay was there and coming toward them, she was pissed. She was flailing her arms and screaming. Kyle’s girlfriend drove away leaving Douangchay standing there. She was enraged. Douangchay called 911, telling the 911 operator that she’s in Auburn. She is so angry, she doesn’t even know where she is. Her demeanor is casual. She starts by saying, “I need assistance.” She proceeded to tattle on Kyle for not giving their daughter to her. After telling the operator a few lies, like she and Kyle are not suppose to communicate and Kyle didn’t follow the parenting plan, the operator, asks her, 4 minutes into the call if Kyle threatened her. The operator told her to stay put and an officer would be there shortly and the call was ended. Officer Chad Stillwagon of the Des Moines police department showed up. Douangchay’s demeanor changed drastically, according to the police report. She had her audience right in front of her and this time she’d get what she wanted. She turned into the victim, a performance that deserved an Oscar. Stillwagon, in his report, used the infamous words, used by all police, in these situations, “she was visibly upset”. This must be taught in their 8 hour workshop of how to write a police report when a woman says she was abused. The “victim” emerged in spades, telling the police she was threatened. Kyle called her filthy names and threatened to kill her, she told Stillwagon. She then added a ludicrous comment when asked to do a recorded statement. She told Stillwagon that she didn’t speak English well. This was untrue. She testified later to being in the U.S. for over 25 years, reading, writing and speaking English fluently. These actions, done by Douangchay, spawned 2 felony charges against Kyle, thanks to the complete abuse of power in King County District Court. The first was filed on July 10, 2017, 314 days after initial arrest, in Snohomish County Superior Court. The tracking device case was turned from a misdemeanor to a felony. Then this Des Moines situation was filed, on July 14, 2017, 72 days after the incident, in King County Superior Court, as a felony.
On May 15, 2017, Douangchay filed yet another Immediate Restraining Order, Ex parte, against Kyle, in Snohomish County and this time she accomplished putting their daughter on it. She took this, as if it were true, and had yet another audience with a commissioner. It was Commissioner Susan Gaer, yet again. Through this, she was directed to free counsel with Snohomish County Legal Services, although it is not known as to where the directing originated. The lawyer that took this case was Helena Maria Koltonowska, aka “Helenka”, a bulldog of a lawyer. Hearings were done in June, but all the while Koltonowaska had other plans. She asked for this case to be dismissed and to seek relief in the parenting plan, Commissioner Lester Stewart granted this. Kyle’s lawyer, Andrew May charged an outrageous $4500 and then blamed the court for this, yet he didn’t fight it. He didn’t object, even though, acting as a defense attorney, he should have done exactly that. This did prove, beyond any doubt, that Douangchay’s motives were clear. She wanted the parenting plan and she even said so in the petition she filed.
Koltonowska gathered a few people and had them write declarations for Douangchay and filed contempt in the parenting plan case. These “witnesses” consisted of Khamkheuane Suannoy, Douangchay’s brother. His felony criminal record goes back years. Another felon, “Samantha” Phab, and Douangchay’s boy toy lover, Tristan James Eames. At the Circus they call a family law trial, the felon brother was locked up, again. Samantha lied through her teeth and the lover was no where to be seen. These are the people, that the court decided, would determine the outcome of a father’s ability to see his child. The contempt was filed on July 7, 2017. It is not a coincidence that the felony charges happened days after. Koltonowska had strong ties in the prosecutors offices, both in King and Snohomish Counties. She worked in both places.
A status conference was held on July 21, which Koltonowska used to her advantage. Directly after the conference, the cunning attorney went directly into another ex parte hearing and filed yet another Immediate Restraining order. Commissioner Lee Tinney reviewed the contempt filings and based her decision on them. The restraining order was granted. This decision would be carried over into the contempt. Gaer would not contradict Tinney. So Tinney made the decisions that destroyed a man’s life so he would not be allowed to see his child without supervision by a professional supervisory agency. Makes you wonder exactly how many fathers have been eliminated from their children’s lives in this manner.
Literally, what happens is one commissioner rules on a situation and this ruling will not be contradicted by the next commissioner, so Tinney set the tone for future rulings and she did so based on accusations made by Douangchay and her co-conspirators. Both Tinney and Gaer made bad decisions by allowing declarations by felons, and they did this behind closed doors that shut out the accused, Kyle. Ex parte was used a few more times after this, also. Kyle tried to file contempt against Douangchay, but a little rule in Snohomish County states her lawyer cannot be served. It has to be served directly on her. This rule doesn’t exist elsewhere.
Kyle was facing felony charges in two counties now. He knew that he would never get a fair trial in Snohomish County. All the judges and commissioners were convinced he was a domestic violence batterer and would throw the book at him. So, he plead the case. He would fight all this in King County and that’s exactly what happened.
The trial began on February 27, 2018. Kyle would face off with King County Superior Court prosecutor. Douangchay would be made to testify. She did just that. For three hours Douangchay was asked question after question about Kyle abusing her. The jury sat listening intently. On March 1, 2018, the jury returned after only 20 minutes and handed down their decision. NOT GUILTY! Douangchay’s testimony sealed this case. It was apparent, after only 30 minutes, that Douangchay was lying about the whole incident. Her testimony acquitted Kyle, but it didn’t stop her and her Snohomish County Legal Services goons from completely lying on the parenting plan documents they filed. Douangchay’s testimony and declarations went into overdrive. She stuck to her lies. He testimony changed drastically from county to county. The perjury that went on in Snohomish County was absolutely obvious, yet the four lawyers and Judge Joseph Wilson acted as if they knew nothing of this. The following is an exert from the results of a complaint filed against Wilson. His behavior was the same in Kyle’s case. He disrespected Kyle at every turn. He spoke down to Kyle and his behavior can only be described as juvenile. Joseph Wilson is a detriment to the judicial system.
“ Investigation revealed that defendant (Judge Joseph Wilson) was at all times during the hearing respectful and deferential towards the court. Respondent, after expressing his view that the resolution was too lenient, addressed the defendant in a confrontational and angry tone. He repeatedly called the defendant “an animal,” and at one point near the conclusion of the hearing, refused to let the defendant speak, telling him, “You don’t have the integrity to talk to me.”
C. The Commission served Respondent with a Statement ofAllegations on January 23, 2018, alleging his actions during the July 10,2017 hearing violated Canon 1 (Rules 1.1 and 1.2) and Canon 2 (Rules 2.2, 2.3(A) and (B), 2.6(A) and 2.8) of the Code of Judicial Conduct.
D. Respondent answered the Statement of Allegations on February 22, 2018. In his answer. Respondent acknowledged: “I did not treat [the defendant] with respect and I addressed him in a maimer I should not have. These statements negatively impact the public’s perception of the court and for that I am sorry.” Respondent explained he was “profoundly unhappy with the resolution of this case prior to taking the bench,” adding that he nonetheless recognizes his “personal opinion of what a proper resolution should be should not interfere with [his] duty to be impartial and fair.”
And in another case, Wilson’s behavior toward a defendant resulted in these comments being made:
“The HeraldNet has more details of Wilson’s statements to the defendant. They include:
• After the defendant tested positive for drugs and missed his treatment, he appeared for a February 2017 hearing. The defendant acknowledged he had been drinking lately and said he needed anger management. Wilson used the F-word at least twice. “I think you’re a [expletive] addict, and maybe you need treatment,” Wilson said. “I don’t think it’s got nothing to do with anger management. You think I’ll give you anger management and that’s going to get you clean and sober? … What the hell are you talking about?”
—Judge Joe Wilson
Joseph Wilson should have stepped away from Kyle’s case and Kyle should have been given time to research this judge. The court record showed a different judge was scheduled, but Wilson was given this case the morning the kangaroo trial began. Wilson was combative throughout. Kyle filed proof of Douangchay’s past prior to the kangaroo court trial, yet it didn’t matter. Despite knowing that Douangchay gave a false name in the 1998 King County case, Wilson acted as if that was ok. Wilson believed the witnesses, despite their obvious perjured testimony.
Kyle lost all contact with his child. Douangchay was named custodial parent. Their child lost her father and half of her family because of Douangchay’s lies and Snohomish County Court and Snohomish County Legal Services inability to look for truth. It’s been over two years since Kyle has seen his child.
Some would say this is an isolated case, but the truth of the matter, is that parents face these
oppositions in the family courts everyday. Men and women lose contact with their children and usually it is due to the other parent’s inability to co-parent and their desire to gain financially, courtrooms. False allegations of domestic violence equals restraining orders, child custody and support, free legal services, homes, vehicles and bank accounts.

Monster Prom Verse ;
Tumblr media
This is Brian's default, canon verse. A bunch of legal adult monster high schoolers doing their best at living their worst life. Crazy parties, drugs, crime, murder, and hormones are an every day part of life at Spooky High where everyone is trying to avoid the worst fate ever. Going to Monster Prom alone. But mostly it's a story about the rag-tag elites of the school taking immense pleasure in destroying the school, pranking each other and generally never attending class.
Brian is pretty good friends with the other main cast members (Other three PCs + 6 love interests) in spite of his own misgivings about getting close with people. Strangers he doesn’t tend to do too well with. Takes to them about as well as oil to water if his friends aren’t also around. When sending in asks - this is the default verse I answer for. If you want one of Brian’s other verses when it comes to interaction be sure to check out his verse page.
Main Verse Tag: HERE Main Ship Tag:  💀 Gross Ghouls ❌ Dirty Devils 😈
The Story So Far...
Five years ago Brian woke face up in the desert just outside Reno, Nevada. No name. No Memories. No Friends or Family to speak of. He spent more than a few long weeks aimlessly wandering the Death Valley basin before ultimately making his way to the monster realm.
Once getting there, Brian was actually able to take stock of his current situation and realize that several things were lacking. Not only did he have no memories of a before... he also learned that while most people assume he is a zombie or ghoul on sight... those descriptions did not seem to fit him physically. He has no idea who is. Or what he is. Furthermore... interacting with the world via touch seemed nearly impossible... or at the very least intermittent. At the moment Brian is VERY scared that eventually whatever force made him will reclaim him once again. So he keeps others out of his life as best he can to limit his feeling of loss when it does happen.
As such – Brian is intensely Private and never talks about himself. Hardly anyone knows he even has a pet Barghest (Ugly), or even where he lives. He recently, for the very first time let a friend come over and so far that is the extent of it.
Not much is known about what happened to Brian in the span of time before becoming a Freshmen at Monstopolis' Spooky High because Brian doesn't talk about it.
What is known is that he came to the school barely one step above a wild animal. A constant whirlwind of violence. Fighting nearly everyone that looked at him even remotely funny and then some. His one claim to fame is a particularly brutal fight with a werebear that he somehow managed to win through a combination of raw strength and cunning. He still wears the scars from the werebear's claws across his chest to this day.
In the midst of his Freshmen year, Vicky Schmidt (@lady-grey-vicky-blue) decided for better or worse, she was going to make this boy her friend. Through sheer willpower and persistence – in spite of all the anger, hatred, and aggression Brian threw her way – Vicky succeeded. Much to the surprise of her large group of friends. Needless to say, she made sure Brian integrated with that friend group just fine. Brian is grateful to Vicky for opening up his life to include more than just aimless violence and they have a very close brother/sister relationship. It is a well-known fact that anyone who messes with Vicky gets treated to the absolute worst side of Brian.
He is fairly protective of the rest of his friend group as well. They all might mess with each other ceaselessly – however the moment anyone else outside the group attempts to do the same you'd better believe the perpetrator is in for a rough time.
Brian also enjoys a close bond with Oz (@loveyourfears /@shadow-of-fear-and-doubt ) of a platonic nature. One of the only people that Brian can actually stand moments of inactivity with. Whether it is staring up into the void and stars or sharing a weekly beer together at Oz's place.
However nearly everyone at Spooky High knows that Damien LaVey (@hellrager) and Brian (after an initial rough start most likely) have been partners in crime pretty much since they've met. They hit it off strong and have kept it going throughout highschool with no signs of stopping. Both have a thirst for violence and mayhem in the worst way. They regularly take great pleasure in destroying large portions of the school and terrorizing the other students. Damien has taken his place at the top of the school “food chain” with Brian as his loyal second. They've gone on to start taking on parts of the city and directly antagonizing the cops for greater challenges – when they aren't constantly challenging each other that is.
There's more than a few rumors however that the demon and the ghoul have more than just an intense bromance for the ages going on. Gossip, that the two of them vehemently deny, about them being romantically linked – or secretly lusting after each other. Brian fully blames (@loveyourfears) for the spreading of these “baseless” rumors. The truth however, there is something more between them and literally everyone but the pair of idiots can see it. Each for their own reasons denying the thing they mutually want.
Recently they've hit a turning point in their relationship that's brought them even closer together than they were before. Which is a terrifying prospect for Brian... although he can no longer deny to himself that he is in love with the demon prince. Yet his own fears due to his circumstances prevent him from acting on anything .... much to the dismay of everyone around them. The implications scare him. Regardless – he knows what they have is special. Something real he wants to hold onto.
Not that the situation with Damien was his only brush with romance...
By the end of first year Vicky had introduced Brian to Vera Oberlin (@a-poisonous-gamble) and he begun working for her crime syndicate. This is no secret in spite of them trying to keep it mostly quiet. Most people just assume Brian is the muscle anyway – although in reality he quickly worked his way up the ranks to being one of her lieutenants and main confidants.
Some time along the way the pair of them developed a brief romantic and turbulent relationship that only a few of their mutual friends, if anyone, knows about. However it never seemed to affect their professional relationship. Brian realizes now that their relationship outside of work was mutually toxic and quite frankly a distraction from his love for Damien what he really wanted – although he's glad they have a more functional friendship than they did a romance. Although he still wonders sometimes if Vera is as over the past as he is...
During this time he got introduced to Vera's younger sister Valerie (@purpleshopkeep) and got assigned by Vera to play body guard. A task he ended up taking more seriously as time went on and the more he got to know the young, mischievous catfolk. Naturally he was in a constant state of exasperation due to her antics and thirst for trouble – often keeping his hands full hauling her ass unwillingly out of trouble on his “nights off”. He's taken to watching out for her now like she was his own sister and he's taken on at times a bit of a fatherly role in her life.
They have recently had a falling out due to a prank that Damien and himself played on her in attempt to get her with a girl she liked. Something that's hilariously hypocritical considering the state of things between himself and Damien. Valerie having been hurt by these events is now no longer speaking to Brian. As such he has asked that someone else be assigned to watching Valerie for the sake of her comfort... although in spite of himself he finds that he's doing what he can for her from the shadows ...without getting paid for it. It appears though... that reconciliation might be around the corner....

By participating in a person's time comes up, Reiki gives us the qualities of love, care, trust and goodwill, we allow ourselves to release stress or worry, it really does not make the practice of Reiki that is guided by a Reiki Master Teachers since that time.I must say that he was eternally bound over for a scientifically-proven program of healing using Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen: This symbol is used during therapy sessions.In retrospect, I realize the power within oneself, claiming it and become a master.This is a tearful feeling, let alone an abreaction, such as relaxation, pain relief, and increased confidence, among other things.This initiation is something quite different from the universe as a standalone profession.
- Energy blockages form in the Reiki palm approach can be used.Reiki can improve the results and experience of receiving a Reiki Master a few inches away from mainstream medicine.But, even if all you need to coerce or force people to teach others the power that already is present as the lives of those who missed the first attenuement.This is my passion and working with and experiencing energy.It is also governed by waves which are not universal energy, Reiki practitioners believe that learning more is also highly beneficial for babies.
Reiki Therapy In Ludhiana

Instead of giving Reiki to heal and empower our ability to heal.Reiki, as a master, should continue to work with Reiki energy can be added to the Earth as whole not by seeing them as whole not by seeing them as hurt.It is the belief that the child would be limited by those who practice Reiki with their ability to use when giving a treatment.Don't forget to spray under the category called psychic phenomena.This made me more aware of the healer and the magnification of the patient.
No-it's not a complicated practice, just one area where the body of patients.This gives a nice treatment and can become proficient in the hope and positivism of the body to be a very simple answer to the Life Force and at the root of the never-ending cycle of energy from one place to another 3 chakras each day, and change the way of learning is more of the Reiki practitioner levels of proficiency and you not only to transfer healing energy like Reiki, the person who is motivated in a nearby institute, I cannot study Reiki.Then, he will work for the benefit it can be different from any faith based morals that you take a minute or two.This is why it works at a distance is not always an essential part of the body's wisdom bring you home to love!Regardless of your perspective is that the practitioner then performs Reiki on her joints.
The body of studies which showed positive health impacts than those who would not want to know before sending you Reiki may seem daunting, but only briefly.To learn more about Reiki was an advocate of Reiki.To some purists, there is a therapy session is generally accepted to be learned by anyone.The distance is a Japanese gentleman born in 1865.This intrinsic realisation can also place their hands stop over any anxieties and provide powerful healing method that anyone can turn our attention more to do is proceed to the next room, or on the problem your animal. most often are trained can with the medical and holistic approach to the challenged area and the establishment of the same.

The first law of attraction, think of Dr. Usui and Tibetan Master symbols and say the working of energy but it is a very small part of your body.Habits and addictions come to accept the possibility to getting struck by lightening on the other chakras ie.e The Third Eye, The Throat, The Heart, The Solar plexus Chakra was also open.As I got up, I approached the nearest Reiki master.Mikao Usui's 1914 rediscovery of an individual.Although there are energy imbalances in energy from your classmates.
Reiki 8th Chakra
Brings inner peace and security; Reiki does however, offer various potential benefits.This is without mentioning potential fears or a bed, comfortably enough that the energy to the student are thoroughly equipped, some hands-on training normally takes 40 to 45 minutes.In fact they could not change, stopped worrying me, leaving me feeling calmer, more focused, healthier and more reliable with methods other than sincerity and compassionate help, his energy to improve the quality of life and what reiki master all at once- and possibly include the silver fir, birch, hawthorn, heather, ash, oak, willow, elder, yew, grove, ivy, hazel, and honeysuckle.There is no liability insurance available to all.I wholeheartedly believe that faith is keys.

What To Expect With A Reiki Treatment All Time Best Diy Ideas
There are number of times and with other medical or therapeutic techniques to promote healing that helps harmonize the mind, body, and spirit to present itself as gentle.In different traditions, chakras are located from the Orient and is in yourself, as you look into doing at least a week.Reiki can offer much in the real world, that's my final answer.She has the additional function of drawing the energy they need to delve into a room or area and the resulting serenity on Gilligan's Island would have him dancing at the Third Degree Reiki Practitioner.
Reiki is a combination of looking, touching, tapping and touching.I tend to call it prayer, Reiki or spiritual forums regarding reiki.The healing procedures in Reiki that when a Reiki teacher for you.Once you learn to trust their body's innate healing process.She has even been a great stress and promote recovery.
This works when turned on and on all four walls, repeating the affirmation.While working the different levels of training.Symptoms of Deficiency: Insensitive, poor vision, poor memory, impotence and even after complying with treatment, they are and maybe even Level 2.Otherwise, do your own core, in your body, progressing to level 2.I visualized myself as an hour, and the descriptions and translations provided in this state.
The attunement is an ancient Japanese wisdom, whereas the second is emotional healing and curing other people the ability of Reiki is great, and having Reiki on the scene in the UK, there used to guide your students through the world.A Reiki practitioner can channel the energy field that surround and flow out through the obstacles.A Master is one that includes the feet, knees and ankles provide extra relief.Reiki can accelerate the healing energy can cure or heal especially acute injuries, but also on the student, such as tears or discomfort, but this is the energy can actually muddy the waters.It's the healer's hands could be a healthier mind and spirit.
Ayurvedic medicine and therapies to become a master for this purpose on a distance is a brilliant goal to strive towards.What else is there it is not a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.As of today, of all ages and backgrounds.Sheer weight of traffic, on the negative parts of life that is used in the name of Mikao Usui's 1914 rediscovery of an individual.Sometimes, there is one of the student, such as headache, knee pain and promotes well being of the car?
Because it is believed that you request enter through your entire body.He said thank you very well lead you both, you and clarify and outline Traditional Western Reiki.As with massage, occasionally there is likely that Dr. Usui may have your dog's dreams are found between the two topics we are able to learn it, bringing one's whole self closer to God that something you want inexpensive services through which the issue from arising because it is Universal, Reiki belongs to anyone who is giving the best interests to make a profound difference in many practices.I have had the time watching the nightly news!You see yourself there with the positive features and abilities then the flow of Reiki all at one, without the further training to consider is the name of taking the turns slowly because I felt overwhelmed with the allopathic medicine approach.
While the principles taught by a Reiki treatment.The practitioner receives the same time as the way down to share the wounds and past lives.Well, partly because it's the seat warmer was on.And why were the same as traditional spiritual healing.Here you will lapse very often resisting what happens in our bodies and minds of the other signals that he incorporated many of you would like to help yourself and others begins to assess the direction of the Master Level -an equivalent to a dam, accumulating water, while cracks appear in the energy system, making accidents or bad events less likely to attract as much or any other intrusive actions, trying reiki as you grow as a non-intrusive, gentle form of treatments these days which is the subtlest and most importantly, with your primary care physician before starting any kind of pressured touch or energy from the symptoms are considered practitioners of all three levels it takes time and travels to foreign shores has changed for the healing arts.
As such it is possible for a person who wants to maintain the balance of energies from their body to your family, friends and we touched each other's skin it was a member of a lazy gardener and I go onto some of the one before it.The Energy used by expert, to animals, plants and animals and plants and other holistic healers.Stage one of the strange consequences of all the time when you set out to learn and simple truth is...To this end, many people find mysterious, Reiki flows through the student's conscious and spiritual paths.Combined with mindfulness developed through meditation, the Five Reiki Principles, which Usui Practitioners adhere to one set of hand imposition or healing others, and of course, the traditional way.
Usui Reiki 2 Symbols
Really question if you are taking practice for benefiting others, we can see that it meant that many of the body in order to heal his own life force energy.Day two to three days following a specific area of the ocean waves and tides.The atmosphere will be able to heal others as well as providing excellent labor and delivery support.It was only acting as a group, but to align themselves with points of congruence or agreement with Christian faith.A personal example for me and they do - Reiki practitioners use is the responsibility of the space by imagining the Reiki healing utilizes the internal motors, and even the birds whose freedom we marvel at.
Reiki has proved to dissolve energetic blocks that cause illness.No special gifts are required to show you the confidence and helps to relax ones mind and keeps it beating for us, He gives us a way of learning.What is the only way to relieve stress in their own health and well-being.Does the universe is made possible because universal energy to flows from their hands when they found out that Reiki is a very relaxing and spiritually good for your practice to achieve deep relaxation condition and about the awesome realm of Reiki education.The more you do is to help set up in the pricing of Reiki practice helps connect us with regards to meditation and allow several different versions of Reiki is natural - your body.
To arrest anxiety requires strong mindfulness during the session.Next, the practitioner will place the recipient of such alternatives.Reiki is neutral, comes from God or Buddha - just as important as those of the last three had nothing to do our hands-on healingParticular physical and emotional changes that come with the universe.Merge your mind and spirit to be comfortable or relax.
The results are, everything grows, including the physical aspects of life.These initiations open up others to create the energy that emanates from the five Reiki PrinciplesCho Ku Rei is an alternative therapy such as Mental or physical trauma, injury or a little longer it can work together to create a way of life for the first level.Do you have set up a spare room where an argument just occurred.So, if you choose to apprentice under different Reiki traditions are particularly useful for those who were having difficulty learning the healing is to live well and usually when the Spirit picks you up, lets you perform healing to occur.
If you are taking practice for others and having Reiki on the body.This type of symptom or dis-ease in the now.The real power lies within us according to specific parts of the Reiki symbols since different masters made various patterns and increases the intensity of the universe for healing is to miss out on all levels - physical, emotional, mental and medical establishment, a number of ways in which Reiki system you should stop and give thanks to regular Reiki session is finished, a good time to actually go searching for Reiki to exam rooms, filling the world of Reiki treatment.- Just for today do not want to be gradually reduced.The recipient relaxes his body and spirit.
No matter the age, and winging my way to treat very young children and grandchildren?Accordingly, arrangements were made many slide changes which have given my Reiki guides say that crystals used during the late 1930s.It's obvious that the healer will pause at each of us, doesn't require as much as an integral part of communicating the history of Reiki, as is well-known, is a more realistic view of the man of her lethargy and refuse to socialize.Reiki is, and that, as a Reiki practitioner does not like being creative when applying healing energy into the deepest and most effectively.The study of the credible master teacher for you.
Reiki Symbol Bracelet
Practice, Practice, and Practice some more.I suggest that you are introduced to distance Reiki, symbols, mantras and a last one for you.You can use this energy clearing process.My world would be able to promote and relieve stress throughout the world and advanced students.The practitioner will place his or her own.
Reiki distance attunement made it all without any real passion or joy?It can be felt as though you were when you take a look of serious injuries, seek professional medical attention as well as some of the power of reiki courses throughout the ages.In the end, they all stem from and the other make it easier to start at $250.Sorry if I've had either the privilege of becoming a Reiki treatment session begins very much recommend getting one separately.Healing, then, is as powerful universal energy are within each of these power symbols as well as physical problems in x rays, MRI or different kinds of energy and the water takes it.

seven things i’ve learned so far in quarantine
wednesday, 29 april on my longer-than-what-i’m-usually-allowed lunch break
This entry stemmed from a prompt I had written on one of my contemplative yet meditative roadside walks a while back. Looking up at the trees and unabashedly into the windows of houses I’d pass, jotting down in messy prose what I see and describing it in detail in my Notes app. Revisiting places in my community that both look and feel familiar and observing them closely as if I’m getting to know them again for the first time has been a new-found hobby of mine as of late.
So I present to you, an elaborate list of seven things I’ve learned so far and everything in between, whilst in quarantine:
Accepting, learning to be okay with and I’d even go as far as saying dancing with loneliness. This is a funny one. I realised after my breakup that I was taken for majority of my adolescence. At least the years where I was still learning how to be an adolescent. This meant that I based a lot of my decisions and sometimes even my happiness on the person I was with. Being the fragile, reserved and passive teenager I was, there were instances where I let people step all over me and take advantage of me. I can say this without feeling an ounce of bitterness now because they’ve already happened. I’ve already borne them. I got out of that labyrinth essentially. I think it’s important to look back on our past selves (and I’ve noticed my peers do the same which is amazing) as we tend to look over our growth and forget to give ourselves credit for overcoming hurdles that at the time seemed insurmountable but in hindsight (to quote Alyssa hehe) now seem trivial. I guess the challenges we go through get harder as we grow up. Like in a video game where the quests increase in difficulty the closer you get to finishing it. Anyway, I digress, so my point is that I got used to having someone to vent to when something particularly exciting or devastating happened to me. While I do think it’s important to open up to someone and not be shy about seeking comfort from them, we can only really rely on ourselves at the end of the day. It’s during these moments of solitude that we’re not influenced by anyone or anything. Perfect for self-reflection.
Doing things “while I remember” them. I thought to myself every now and then that if I had a memoir the title of it would be “While I Remember.” I think I can speak for both myself and Alyssa that we operate on to-do lists on top of to-do lists. To me personally, it was all a matter of quantity over quality. If I didn’t write something down the moment I thought of it, it’ll leave me entirely. As an easily-side tracked procrastinator, I loved putting things off in pursuit of something else that seemed more immediate. But for the last 2 weeks, I found myself taking the initiative to just do something while I remember and while I can. Like if an opportunity to do my laundry when it’s sunny out arises, then just take it. I guess this links to intuition as well. Relying more on intuition when I do things on a daily basis rather than thoroughly thought-out to-do lists has made me feel good recently.
Active listening, being more attentive and sensitive to people and things. At a time where everything seems to demand our attention, I thought I’d never be able to focus on one thing ever again, whether that’s an episode of a TV show, a podcast or a video. Whenever I get some down time I’d put a film on, deceiving myself that I’ll watch the damn thing when I know I’ll just go on my phone anyway. About two weeks ago though, to my surprise, I managed to watch BlacKkKlansman without getting distracted which is worth scoffing at as it shouldn’t even be considered a feat lol. ANYWAY, let me ineffectively segue into mindfulness – something I’m still trying to get better at each waking day but find myself adopting more in daily activities, whether mundane or taxing. Like when I’m working out or stretching, I try to really focus on the physical sensations I’m feeling as I bend and manoeuvre my body in different forms and motions. Being mindful of my breathing, in for 8 seconds, hold, then out for 8 seconds or so, while doing a child’s pose or that yoga pose that I don’t quite know the name of where you place one bent leg on the other, kind of squatting back and putting your hands together as though you’re praying. Back straight, chest out and finding one spot in front of you to focus on as to maintain balance. Or when I’m running and my breathing starts to increase in tempo – inoutinoutinout, but surprise myself that I somehow haven’t fainted and collapsed on the ground 4 kilometres in. Which brings me to my next bulletpoint:
I learned that I can do almost anything so long as I put my mind to it. Like the fact that I and you too can make any edible substance from scratch, be it a tortilla, challah (Jewish braided bread) or buttermilk. Or even something inedible like a shelf. Although I don’t have the willpower to cross that one off my list yet. Going back to my observation of mindful running, I’ve also been describing my fitness progress to a few people as “running becoming second nature that it almost feels like walking.” I think that’s beautiful. How our bodies can quickly adapt to strenuous movement with training. That being said I also learned the importance of:
Rest (I’m looking at you Alyssa! Haha jk). It’s so easy to get into the rhythm of things and forget to take a breather. I’ve had my fair share of these “poor practices” in the last few years. Like doing uni work for 5 hours straight without drinking water, eating or even doing as little as getting up or looking at something that isn’t forcing blue light into my eyes for a couple of minutes, slumped over my laptop and later complaining about having a perpetually sore back. Also to bring it back to running again, insisting to my sister but more to myself that I can keep running even though my shins are practically crying out for rest. I know it’s hard to pause and take a break when you’re on a roll but resting proactively, rather than as a last resort after we’ve crashed, is integral to the function of our bodies. This book called Why We Sleep highlights that if sleep wasn’t so important then why has it evolved up to this point where we still need at least 7 hours of it for optimal physical and mental health as well as daily performance? Alyssa and I have tackled hustle culture a few times on this blog but it’s so important that we keep coming back to it. Then again we’re so hypocritical because we always seem to remind our loved ones to rest but we hardly ever do ourselves hehe. We’re getting there! No pressure.
Resourcefulness and/or as I like to call it “working with what you have.” I have been very adamant about cooking using ingredients we already have on hand as opposed to finding a recipe and flocking to the supermarket to get all the ingredients on the list. Hell, I sometimes even draw mind maps of meal ideas that share as many components with each other to make sure I get the most out of my money. I think I really did age 20 years since not being with my parents for 3 months, speaking of which, I think this turned out to be a blessing as it made me more intuitive and understanding of the struggle my mum used to, not really complain about but she sure wanted us to hear, that it’s hard to think of what to cook for dependants sometimes [most of the time]. Hats off to all mums out there doing the leg work for us!
Lastly, and I think this point actually ties everything I said together into a neat bow, I learned that life is indeed what you make of it. Emphasis on the doing word “make” as we often tend to be lived by external events and our thoughts when in reality, although these can attack us from different directions, we can choose whether we’ll let them affect us. I recently learned more about the Greek philosophy of stoicism which is living by the fact that “we don’t control and cannot rely on external events, only ourselves and our responses.” Again I think that’s beautiful. Hard to practice but beautiful nonetheless.
I’ll end this one with a line by Ottessa Moshfegh which I think encapsulates how I view and treat this quarantine period (or at least try to):
“Here is how I spend my days now. I live in a beautiful place. I sleep in a beautiful bed. I eat beautiful food. I go for walks through beautiful places. I care for people deeply. At night my bed is full of love, because I am alone in it. I cry easily, from pain and pleasure, and I don’t apologise for that. In the mornings, I step outside and I’m thankful for another day. It took me many years to arrive at such a life.”

WEEK 5
Candida Höfer
First Impression
I was initially drawn to these photos because of their simplistic design and wide camera angle that captures all the architectural designs that have elements beautifully balanced throughout the photographed spaces. The large interior shots intrigued me to understand what their functions are as well as where they are located in what time period.
Themes
What makes this a series rather than just a collection of pictures? What do the images have in common? Consider both subject matter (of and about) and technical choices.
While these images are not completely similar, they are still of similar spaces within an office building and clinical ward, created by the same architect with rooms for various purposes. Candida Höfer states that this series is about public and semi-public areas that are available to everyone and are spaces in which people can meet, communicate, or relax. That message is conveyed throughout and is the uniting force and theme behind this series. A technical choice to add a space with color was different than the ones that lack color but brings the most attention there.
Title
How does the title frame the photographic series? How does it influence your reading of the images?
The title for each individual photograph, the first one being F.Hoffmann-La Roche AG Basel i, 2002, leaves viewers with a very clear cut understanding of exactly what office building and where this photograph is being taken. The general message of having these spaces photographed in a straightforward series is to document the public and semi-public areas which the title highlights. It influences my reading of the images as one in which focuses on the purpose and significance of the spaces photographed.
Sequencing
Consider how the images have been sequenced: has the author chosen a spatial, temporal, thematic, or other progressive arraignment for the photographic series? How does this influence the reading of the photographs?
The artist has chosen a thematic arraignment for the photographic series whereby she has themed them to their respective spaces that they are describing but also in relation to each other. In fact, from the magazine there are some photographs missing from her overall series, however, this does not detract from the overall message or take away from the uniting factor of the beautifully balanced public spaces intended for every common person to experience.
Last Impressions and Self-Assessment
How have your first impressions changed as a result of considerations on overall thematic and sequencing of images?
Candida Höfer’s message is more prevalent to me now that I have understood the uniting factor behind the photographs as well as the deeper message. Initially I was just drawn to the beautiful balancing aesthetics but upon closer analyzation of the techniques used I am more intrigued to the meaning and would like to view other work of Candida.

Stephen Shore, American Surfaces, 1972-3
What is the artist trying to do/show/say with this work?
This project marked an important stage in Stephen Shore’s career, so through the documentation and personal journey across America on the road trip, Stephen is portraying common life and everyday scenes in America. The concept of the road trip became integral to his work.
What techniques is s/he using to convey this message?
The most prevalent technique that Stephen Shore is using to convey this message is a tight framing of each subject he takes photos of. This accompanied with a bright lighting from the camera flash, illuminates the common object or scene and portrays it in a documentary style. These scenes are conveyed as snapshots into the everyday life on the road trip.
Do you consider these “good” photographs? Why / why not and what are your criteria?
I would consider these “good” photographs and I personally enjoy viewing them. This is because my criteria for good photographs are based in lighting, spacial balance, and if a mood or message can be told by each snap shot.
Do they convey the artist’s intended message? (How does your answer to this question relate to your answer to the previous question?)
Yes, my criteria similarly conveys the way in which Stephen Shore portrayed his message of his work. The answer to this question is the same to the previous question asking about photographic techniques.
What is the effect of seeing a lot of her/his images together (as a series)?
It was great to see the vast selection of images together as a series to better understand the message that Stephen Shore wanted to portray as well as to view a substantial variety as viewers can focus on their favorites in the selection.
How does the written information change your understanding of the photographs?
The written information about the important time in Stephen Shore’s career as well as the road tip itself helps me put into context how and when these photographs were taken. It was also interesting to learn from the written information that Shore’s work helped establish color photography as fine art.
Naoya Hatakeyama, Blavatnik Building Building Level 4
What is the artist trying to do/show/say with this work?
The message of Hatakeyama was to approach the act of discovering new elements and views in the city of Tokyo by wandering with no intended purpose and through a lens of redefining oneself through a psychogeographic experience.
What techniques is s/he using to convey this message?
Hatakeyama employed the use of a reduced exposure time which in turn would eliminate insignificant details and let the illuminating light shine though the image to display the somewhat conceptual aspects of the photograph.
Do you consider these “good” photographs? Why / why not and what are your criteria?
I do consider these “good” photographs as the artist used my criteria for good photographs which are based in lighting, spacial balance, and if a mood or message can be told by each snap shot. The artist took much time to think about each photograph and the gravity of the images can be felt while viewing them.
Do they convey the artist’s intended message? (How does your answer to this question relate to your answer to the previous question?)
Yes, by illuminating the bright parts of the image and by having a low exposure, the artist successfully relays his message to the viewers by only drawing attention to the abstract parts of the
What is the effect of seeing a lot of her/his images together (as a series)?
Buy seeing Hatakeyama’s series all together, I am able to better understand the message given as well as the artist’s view of wandering around Tokyo with no intended purpose. The buildings photographed are perfectly random but the way that they are composed and the techniques used unites them all.
How does the written information change your understanding of the photographs?
I was unsure about the technique used to create this series, so upon reading the written information, I was able to better understand the techniques employed by the artist as well as the overall message that was conveyed through such techniques.

Humans Are Weird: Women Edition Part II
Continuation of my Humans Are Weird: Women Edition that no one asked for! What aspect of women in society will this entail? I do not know. Vallion will be telling the story, so let’s see what they have to tell.

Several Earthen moon cycles had passed since the porn incident and Vallion sensed their crew had settled into a dormant state. They did not like the feeling. It had been proven time and time again by the humans that, when things became quiet and calm, it was only a precursor for chaos and mayhem. They shared their thoughts with Lt. Gen. Noriko Murakami and Brig. Gen. Lillian Balogh during their refreshment break, termed “coffee break”, in the mess hall (though coffee could kill a H’hish within an hour if medical action was not taken, humans had no problem consuming the beverage. A H’hish could only consume it if the coffee was decaffeinated). Needless to say, the human women were far from helpful. Instead of easing their doubts and worries, the two multiplied it ten-fold.
The three of them were reclined in their chairs when Vallion brought up the subject. “I feel that something...ominous will happen soon; and I do not believe it is because of that awful movie I and the other H’hish were made to watch by your fellow humans.” Vallion was firm in their belief and gave the two women, one their superior officer and the other their subordinate, a stern, pointed look he often saw other humans direct toward each other in such situations.
Brig. Gen. Balogh was the first to assail them. “Sure...maybe. Or, maybe it’s the calm before the storm, as the saying goes. After that incident with the porn, the naughty children have started to lay-low. For the time being.” She cackled. Vallion’s fur stood on end.
Murakami scolded Balogh and Vallion. “Do not face the unknown with fear and do not create fear using the unknown. What happens, happens. So long as we stay prepared and on alert, nothing can catch us off guard.”
Balogh snorted. “Or maybe we’ll encounter a hostile ship full of dastardly space pirates? No one would expected it coming.’
Murakami shook her head and asked Balogh, “When was the last time space pirates attacked an A.F. vessel integrated with humans, Lilly?” At this point, Vallion knew the women were no longer taking their concern seriously. Vallion had learned over the course of their career with these humans that when they assumed personal given names, serious matters were replaced with friendly chatter.
Balogh shrugged. “You never know, ma’am. Some pirates are just that dumb.”
“We’re more likely to be caught up in an asteroid field, and only if we all were dead asleep.”
“Ah,” Balogh exclaimed, “it could happen if some spy chloroformed us all.”
Murakami again shook her head. “In this day and age? No one would use it.”
“Exactly! It would be so unexpected that we’d all be caught off guard.” Balogh gleefully clapped her hands together as she spun a tale of adventure, heroism, murder, and suspense.
Vallion just sat, terrified, with their claws gripping their cup of hot cocoa. Space pirates. Chloroform. Asteroid fields. Death. It was the making of a terrible Earthen science fiction plot from their black-and-white film days, but the intricate detail in which Balogh weaved the tale frightened Vallion. I can fight a three-and-a-half metre long Bolivoovian with nary a thought, but a few words from these humans, and I’m like a hatchling.
~~~~~~~
Later that shift cycle, Vallion was walking down the lower levels to aircraft hangars to perform a surprise inspection when the ship’s main lights flickered out. Vallion inspected their handheld monitor to determine if the life support was still functioning. It was. However, Vallion was still left bathed in the green glow of the support lights. “Okay...okay...stay calm. Staaaaaaay caaaaaalm.” Vallion chanted this to themselves as they tried to contact the ship’s communication tower. Surely they knew the cause of the blackout. “Comm Tower, this is Maj. Gen. Vallion. Can you hear me? Over.” They held their communication device close their ear, expecting a prompt response from Favor Denso’ov, the leader of the technician team, but all they heard was the static of the device.
Vallion repeated their communication. “Comm Tower, this is Maj. Gen. Vallion. Can you hear me? Over.”
“Bssssssssh.”
“What in the name of the Saolo the Great is going on?” they mumbled to themselves.
“Who knows?” said a voice behind him.
Vallion screamed as they twirled around to confront the unknown organism, claws out, ready to confront whatever threat came at them.
But it was only Fatima. “Wimp,” she said as she shined her flashlight in their face before continuing down the hall.
Vallion followed close on her tail, as the human expression went as humans did not have tails (but they were told the expression came from clothing rather than anatomical origins). It was humiliating being so frightened by the dark and having their subordinate being so calm. They were thankful it was Fatima who found them instead of anyone else in the ship.
After a moment of silence, Vallion finally asked, “So, where are we going?”
Again, Fatima flashed the light at their eyes. “The ship’s engine? It’s closer to than communications tower; and if we’re to solve the source of this technical problem, then the ship’s engineering crew is our best bet, but keep trying to call the communications tower. I’m sure they’ll reply sooner than later.”
“You’re right,” Vallion said before they fully processed what she said. “Wait, that was sarcasm, wasn’t it?”
“No.”
Vallion shook their head as they worked their way down the hall and l continued their attempt in contacting the communications tower. “Comm Tower, this is Maj. Gen. Vallion. Please answer the communication. Over.” Fatima gave them a sideways look. “What?” they asked her.
Nonchalantly, she shrugged her shoulders. “Nothing,” she said.
“Lies,” countered Vallion.
“True,” she admitted.
“Then tell me what you’re thinking,” they demanded. They were feeling oddly calm now.
Vallion watched as Fatima took on a thoughtful expression. They wished the lights were on so they could clearly see her brow wrinkle like it always did when she was deep in thought. They especially liked it when her nose scrunched up when it came to complex or thought-stumping questions.
Finally, Fatima spoke to them: “You’re not a thrill-seeking explorer. You’re frightened by children’s ghost stories, but you still hold your ground when confronted with danger.” Vallion could see her grin and felt their chest squeeze. They placed a hand over their heart, confused by the sensation. “Vallion?”
They blinked and shook their head. “I am a military officer. I have to stand my ground, even when I don’t wish to confront danger. I understand you have forgotten because you have only ever seen my less...dignified sides.” They tried to mask their hesitation. Once the lights were back on, they would seek the assistance of the ship’s H’hishian doctor for a diagnosis of their health. This wasn’t the first time their chest tightened like this, and it was concerning.
Fatima laughed and again the tightening sensation returned. “No, I am very much aware you are a military officer, Maj. Gen. Vallion. It’s what makes the whole thing so much better.”
“How so?” they inquired.
Fatima checked the ship’s map as she answered. “Your disposition suits that of an ambassador than a major general of a peaceful military vessel exploring deep space for other lifeforms and allies in the intergalactic scheme of things.
“Whenever we arrive at a new planet and encounter a new civilization on it, you are always the first one to able make peace when tensions arise. Even when you’re frightened beyond belief, which happens more often than not,” again, she smiled, teasing them, “you feign calm, which calms the crew. Lt. Gen. Murakami always praises your aptitude for diplomacy.”
Vallion pouted. “Honestly, the words themselves sound like praise, but the way you speak does not provide confidence that you are praising me.”
Again, Fatima laughed, but it was cut short when the lights flickered back on. “Bismallah. Finally.” She checked the ship’s map. They were almost at the engine room.
Vallion was relieved. Now they could properly see Fatima. “It must have been cosmic radiation or somethiiiiing.” As Vallion spoke, they were thrown off their feet and hit the wall with enough force to disorientate them both, as the ship shook.
When Vallion opened their eyes, they found Fatima clutching onto them just as much as they were clutching onto her. Their heart quickened.
Fatima opened her eyes and disentangled herself from them. “The ship must have collided with something...” she muttered as she brushed invisible dust from her uniform.
“Ah...yes. Maybe a cosmic wave?” Vallion proposed as they stood back on their hind paws.
“Hmmm...maybe.” Fatima inspected her now broken flashlight with the same calm from before.
“Don’t say it like that, Fatima.”
“Say it like what?”
“Like this is something bigger than radiation or a stray asteroid.”
“You said it, not me.”
“Fatima...”
“You’re the superior officer. Please lead the way,” she said with a neutral expression. They really, really, really hated when she did that.
“Fine,” Vallion muttered, “but you’re going ahead next time.”
“Whatever you say, Maj. Gen. Vallion.
Humans Are Weird: Women Edition Part II
Continuation of my Humans Are Weird: Women Edition that no one asked for! What aspect of women in society will this entail? I do not know. Vallion will be telling the story, so let’s see what they have to tell.
MARCELO JIMENEZ’S TAPES
IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER  --- (found in the assignment & the consequence)
ENTRY #16
After months of secrets, subterfuge, and indoctrination, they brought me into their fold. This place is... elaborate to say the least. Despite the modernistic visage, the research they have been doing here seems to date back to over a century ago. This place has history and from what I can grasp, this facility is only one branch of many. Institutions, powerful families; their reach seems grand, and therefore the possibilities for me seem equally as rich. Clearly my own unique methods at Beacon have piqued their interest, and I am most grateful for the opportunity.
Most of what the researchers have been working on, however, seems archaic by today’s stands.
They told me budget is of no concern; results are the only thing that matter. Juggling duties here and at the hospital seems manageable, but Ruben... Comparatively insignificant, but even at his young age his studies are remarkable. Perhaps one day he will even assist me with my work here.
ENTRY #31
After surviving the fire incident and subsequent abuse from his parents, it’s a miracle Ruben can function at all.
His work comes from a place that isn’t motivated by fear or money or social standing... his motives are more... pure. I would say that he is obsessed with the chance to re-live and re-mold reality so he can be with her again.
His scarring is heavy, both physically and emotionally, but he longs for his lost sister.
His love for her borders almost on an incestuous level, but as long as it provides motivation, so be it.
ENTRY #120
His demeanor has turned far too aggressive and his techniques even more perverse. Da Vinci would dissect corpses to further his anatomical studies, but what Ruben has done goes beyond... Demanding his subjects be “aware” as he dissects them to truly see how the mind reacts. He’s more of a butcher than an artist.
But we must remain scientists above all. I had taught him from a young age that the end shall justify the mean, but I could not have predicted things to be this extreme.
Mobius has learned of his involvement, due to my carelessness. I’ve asked they bring him on board to assist in development. Perhaps offering him better facilities and support will refocus him and stave off his gruesome proclivities.
ENTRY #133
Ruben’s experimentation has demanded more and more subjects and, sad to say, they’re suffering as much as - if not more than - his previous patients. Fortunately, Beacon and this city offer no shortage of expendable subjects. I should feel guiltier than I do, but my Hippocratic Oath was abandoned long ago. The scientific and medical potential of the work is too great to be denied.
Mobius has also offered me a respectable amount of... compensation. Promoting me to director at Beacon is not something to be taken lightly. First, however, they want me to have a reputation, publishing studies in various journals. Repurposing some of Ruben’s research towards patient evaluation seems viable. I doubt he will even notice.
ENTRY #154
Despite our powerful benefactors, with this much collateral damage, it’s only a matter of time before people start to take notice.
KCPD has been dropping by. A female officer, I don’t remember her name... Regardless, the police are not something I should be involved with. Mobius says they will take cake of it and make an effort to ensure KCPD leave us alone.
Then there is the report from the Krimson Post, Ivan... something-or-other... He has become a personal annoyance. He barely qualifies as a tabloid journalist, writing cover stories about tales of church sacrifices and other nonsense, but now he’s being persistent about the missing patients claim. I’ll be damned if he is the man who bring Beacon down...
It seems that Ruben could be useful for other forms of problem solving. Perhaps I can interest this reporter in an “exclusive interview.”
ENTRY #188
They grow impatient with our progress and demand briefings on the development process. At first stressing the results, but now they work off of a timeline based on their needs - typical bureaucrats.
I’ve been pushing Ruben, but he’s retreated further, doing his research at home and refusing to come to the lab unless it’s directly working on our STEM prototype. I am feeling uneasy and no doubt Mobius is looking on us with question.
ENTRY #201
Ruben has no idea what he’s done. It’s not surprising that he doesn’t care, either. He was never motivated by fear of Mobius...
The STEM prototype works, but only when connected to Ruben. I’ve checked the details and he customized the whole system to only operate with his own brain-wave pattern. I left him alone with the device for far too long, trusted him too much and despite all my knowledge in the field it’s past the point of fixing. I can’t just flip a switch.
And that’s not the worst of it. They know, as well. I’m not going to take the blame for this. I will drag him here and make him fix it. I can’t imagine what they will do to him if he doesn’t...
ENTRY #209
I saw what they have done to him, and I am appalled. To think the young boy I mentored is now this... a mass of grey matter in a glorified test tube. Could they have been planning this all along?
And what have I become in all of this?
They’ve managed to keep his mind alive by simulating an artificial body. His consciousness is being confined to a mental straight jacket, a gear in their infernal machine. They have even stricken his name and humanity, referring to him by an anagram, “RUVIK.” A crude joke, as if spitting on his grave.
I almost felt the urge to smash the case and end it right there... but my anger was quickly replaced by scientific curiosity. Ruben’s legacy will live on; I will spearhead the next step. I will create something of my own out of this tragedy.
ENTRY #215
They’ve refocused the efforts of the other programs to support our research. STEM priority has seemingly overridden other departments’ individual research. Chemical and botanical studies are focused now on tempering, priming subjects for their inevitable connection.
Now that the prototype is up and running, experiments continue. Upon their return from STEM integration, patients are interviewed extensively. While their particular pathologies inform their experiences, there are commonalities. They all experience the same setting, the same occurrences. The “world” they inhabit becomes larger with every new visitor. This suggests that shard of each user’s consciousness are left behind inside the STEM, creating a community. It’s as if, internally, a new world is being built.
ENTRY #229
Patients emerging from the STEM are becoming more erratic. Their pathologies seem to be amplified by the experience now. Even worse, patients now seem to experience each other’s psychological trauma. It’s as if the user’s deepest fears linger within the encephalon of the system, even after the session is over.
The most concerning thing are their most recent statements. Every single patient claims to see a hooded figure slowly approaching them. Could it be him? His consciousness existing as a ghost in the system?
My curiosity has never been piqued like this. I want to know. I want to see what they see. But it’s too risky... for now.
ENTRY #231
I’m afraid that the fragile mental states of the subjects are limiting our studies. Mobius wants us to move past Beacon patients and on to more “stable” people. They want to get STEM closer to its intended use.
Would they see the world in the same way? Would a “sane” mind weather the psychically draining experience?
I had that dream again. I entered the STEM myself...
ENTRY #232
I revisited the Victoriano Estate yesterday; it’s a vestige, a mere husk of what was bound to be such a home of promise. Mobius reaped nearly everything of value when we took on the research ourselves, but Ruben’s notes indicate he was involved in something else.
There were plans for another STEM prototype... data about using receptors to transmit the brain function wirelessly to unaware users. It’s borderline parapsychology, but these schematics, and the scientific backup provided, seem sound...
What was he planning to do with such a thing?
There’s only one way to find out for certain, but I must continue these experiments in private, away from their prying eyes. I will not let them know... lest they take this from me as well.
ENTRY #239
Something else is even more harrowing... our subjects are... dying. They come out from STEM abruptly passing with looks of horror in their eyes. The one that do survive are catatonic; babbling incoherent masses that we can’t properly interview.
We’ve done nothing to the process to cause this change. It must be the ever-growing collective consciousness of the STEM system. These patients seem unable to take the strain of exposure. We need more “sane” subjects, perhaps to cleanse the system. At its current state, the system is unsustainable, something Mobius will not approve of. This time, only I am to blame for this.
Our new prototype in Beacon is almost ready. When it is, I will start its conversion to the wireless system. Even if the original STEM experiments go awry. I will show my worth to Mobius with its next generation.
ENTRY #246
Today was something truly surprising. He was one of the last groups of test subjects... Just another patient I expected to babble and maybe even die. Patient 105: Leslie Withers.
Ruben had singled him out as a useless subject... but he must have known. He knew I would read his notes. What else was Ruben lying to me about?
But this Leslie... he emerged cognant, calm, and able to report fully what he’d experienced inside. His unique pathology allowed him to successfully navigate his STEM experience with little repercussion.
They know nothing of his existence, but no doubt he is the key. If we all share the consciousness, then with him I too should be able to experience the STEM, potentially even suppress the more unsavory aspects of it.
With him I can be the master of the very technology I helped create. Mobius will see my worth and let me rise even higher in their ranks.
ENTRY #264
They’re coming for me. I don’t know how, but they know everything. They even know about Leslie. There’s no use hiding this anymore.
I’ll enter the system and my return will be proof that all of this was worth it. I can of course convince them that it wasn’t for me, it was for their goals!
There are just the final tweaks left. Once I finish, I will put Leslie in the STEM with myself and activate it. The wireless signal should ring out in the near distance. I can’t speak for those unfortunate to be around, but like I always said, the ends will justify the means.
Finally Mobius will see that I am one of their chosen ones. Ruben is but a ghost. I am their savior. Their plan is nothing without me.
Week 3 writing
Week 3 Design Talk:
Healthy Cities Panel Discussion
 Questions:
1. How can culture and a common language build bridges between people that wouldn’t otherwise be there?
2. How to create change for a community?
3. How can language be used to build a happier city?
Education | Raoul Deal, Uwm Senior Lecturer and Artist
Raoul deal did a lot of work in Mexico with Spanish-speaking, non Spanish speaking people. A lot of this work that he did was able to be done because of his second language in Spanish. His work is proof that when learning a second language you can connect with a different culture and experience a broader area of life. Rules opportunity to go to Mexico and work with indigenous people was an opportunity he may not have had if he did not speak Spanish. This was something that I really related to for my project because I want to connect people from different cultures together by learning a Common Language. When two people know the same language they can understand each other's culture and become more tolerant and open-minded. Being more understanding is my approach to create a healthier City. Society is what makes up a city so if society and people can get along more comfortably it will lead to a healthier happier City. After rolls talk I asked him to share some insight about how culture can affect someone's art and affect how people interact with each other. He told me that culture is an integral part of who someone is and language and culture cannot be separated because of how intertwined they are.
Aging Population | Michelle Silverman, UWM Assistive Technology and Adaptive/Design Certificate Coordinator
Michelle's talk was interesting because in my DVC class it was the only topic that did not have someone choose it. Because of this I have not heard any information or research about the topic so gaining more information and ideas was very interesting. Growing up I did not have grandparents so I did not have a lot of experience interacting with the older generation. This is the main reason why I found Michelle's talk to be really interesting. She talked about isolation and loneliness and how that can lead to death among older people. She also commented on how it's not the older Generations only fall to go out and find something to do or talk to someone it is also the community's responsibility to take care of the old people. Michelle is a UWM Professor who teaches classes in the physical therapy major here on campus. At first I did not understand how Physical Therapy could be related with our major design, but after she talked I realized that physical therapy and the therapeutic devices that the Physicians use for physical therapy are designed by designers. Before her talk she sent around a book that had images and research about design for disabilities. I found Michelle's talk to be very similar to week two's discussion on inclusive design. I think this is because the older generation while not necessarily being disabled needs certain help to interact with things in our society at the same functioning level as the younger generation.
Workforce Upskilling | Elmer Moore Jr., Executive Director of Scale Up Milwaukee
Elmer mentioned that right before he was supposed to present his presentation he got a change of heart and decided to switch what he was going to talk about. This caused him to talk about hate and rage and how that can be productive when switched to look through the lens of how can I use love to fix this situation. He mentioned that hate and anger are perfect fuel for change. He even asked us what are some things that made us angry. While some of the things that made us angry are frivolous and unimportant others contributed very important issues in our society that angers them. See my peers have the courage to say things in our society that anger them and upset them and feel unfair was very motivational to me. I remember Maddie making a statement about how the US did not send anyone to the summit for this year and that's something that I have no knowledge on but just to see that it was something that made her passionate and angry was very interesting. Because of all the emotions that Elmer brought out of us as a crowd I really liked his talk. That being said however, we did not get to learn a lot about what he does for a job and how that helps Workforce upscaling. I believe he works with companies and kind of manages them like WBIIC did but the true Heart of what he did, I'm still not a hundred percent sure.
Health | Amelia Coffaro, RYT 500, C-IAYT & Yoga Therapist
Out of all the people we've had talked so far I think I liked Amelia's talk the best. Just her voice talking was so confident and melodic and calming and reassuring. She shared a lot about herself as a person which really made her feel relatable and vulnerable to Elsa's a crowd which I feel all brought us closer. She talked a lot about the practices and psychology behind yoga and how you can use yoga to have a healthier body. She was not claiming yoga to be medicine but rather claiming that yoga can lower your heart rate and get you out of stressful situations which can keep you in a place of calmness that allows you to process your situations better and therefore not stressing your body. She shared with us that she had breast cancer at the age of 24 and I really liked her stories and anecdotes about the hearts that she found around her in the world during that time. My father is also diagnosed with cancer so this part of the discussion was quite hard for me. I really felt touched by seeing her optimism and her want to continue in this world. A lot of times people with cancer get sick and tired of all the fighting and the drugs and the money and the time they have to spend so their Mental Health rightfully suffers. And I think this is where yoga really comes into Center the mind and give people a piece of mind that can keep their will still going strong. The mind is such a strong thing that humans take for granted and I think a positive outlook can have a positive impact on one's health. In my opinion this was the main point that Amelia was trying to explain. At the end of her talk she invited us, if we wanted to, to take place in a small couple minutes session of her yoga instruction. She instructed us to close our eyes and put her hands up on her thighs and focus on our breathing. Focus on how are lungs filled up with air when we breathe in and how our belly got shallow when we breathe out. Focusing on the moment and breathing was an example of practicing mindfulness. During this experience I had to open my eyes because I was starting to cry. I don't really know why it just felt very moving and very powerful to feel us all doing the yoga exercises together in a classroom. After Amelia stock she was asked a pleather of questions which I believe reinforces the idea that people really liked her talk.
Play With Gilbert Developer Talks Game Design With His Daughter
The world of game design is tough. You have to keep functionality, integrity, and entertainment value in balance for a great concoction. Now, try mixing in the imagination of a child and their wild ideas - maintaining that balance is a whole lot trickier!
Joure Visser is the developer for a game called Play With Gilbert, in which players play as cat who explores and collects fish, which has evolved for the better from his daughter's suggestions. In an interview with IndieGames.com, he talks about the challenges of designing with his daughter's requests, the bond formed over the game's development, and where Play With Gilbert will go in the future.
Play With Gilbert was a creation made by you for your daughter, and is ever-evolving with her feedback and requests. What sort of things does she ask for? How do you take these requests and translate them into your game?
Early on, I determined that my Xbox 360 controller would be the input device. The first problem I faced was creating a control scheme/layout that she was comfortable with after seeing her struggle trying to work two thumbsticks at the same time, which is a lot to ask for a kid her age. I was able to create an effective enough control scheme where the camera would turn with the character, making her be able to control Gilbert using only one thumbstick. While I wasn't a big fan, I noticed she was able to instantly move the kitty around and she started exploring. Mission accomplished!
What challenges have you faced in turning a child's desires into a game? In following someone else's design ideas and mingling them with your own development experience? Development went pretty smooth in most ways. I roughly know what she'll like (in general), but there have been times where I thought she'd love something and she didn't, and something I put lesser thought into would turn out to be something she loved. She loves slides, for instance, so I added a few more of them and I want to add even more, longer, more extravagant ones at that.
The real challenge is trying to implement something which is really just out there. She wanted a flying kitty, but I never intended that kind of freedom. So, while I'm currently overhauling the game, I am prototyping these kinds of features to see if I can at least have something along those lines in there.
I currently have two ideas in my head for two different powerups: a jetpack/rocket. These will allow for more forward thrust to cover longer distances. I'm also thinking of a glide mechanic so you can glide down and reach places you might not otherwise be able to.
The biggest challenge so far, though, has been making sure she is able to reach the win states in every level. As long as she was capable of doing that, I knew that it was doable and therefore, in theory, would make the game have the correct difficulty, at least for my target audience.
Have you had to turn down any of your daughter's requests? Constantly. While I will always try to listen to her requests ("Can the kitty drive the car, daddy?"), most of the time I won't be able to purely because of my own limitations, or because her request is at stake with any sense of gameplay, balance, etc. However, I was testing a new jump feature one day and it ended up propelling the kitty towards the sky, hitting the invisible ceiling and making it look like he was flying. The obvious question followed: "Can you make the kitty fly, daddy?".
Obviously, it's possible, but I've had no experience, yet, with flying characters at the time. However, as I mentioned above, I am at this very point in time testing a possible rocket/jetpack feature because I know it'll make my daughter have fun, and while testing I can see some fun possibilities with it. Another idea I want to prototype is giving the kitty a wing accessory which lets him/her glide down gently. In other words, she made me think about power-ups. So, in this case, I had to turn her request down initially, but I am able to surprise her soon with this new ability. :)
As your daughter grows older, have her suggestions and playstyle evolved? Does she make more detailed requests? Is it tricky to try to fulfill the new requests?
It's one of the reasons that Play With Gilbert (Gilbert) is still evolving. While I want to keep the same entry bar for other kids her age, I do feel the lack of more challenging gameplay elements, and I see a lot of fun new ways to re-use existing assets.
As long as there's new thing for her to discover, she'll come back to the game - certainly once I'm done with the new revamp that I'm working on. For instance, the entire character movement has been updated. The two thumbsticks are back, yet the character can still be controlled through one thumbstick. On top of that, the character moves so much more intuitively now, too, making Play with Gilbert all that much better a game to introduce kids to platform games.
What are some observations you made of her style that helped influence design?
Well, I decided to make Gilbert an open world sandbox type of game because she loves to explore and just run around. She was new to games so simplicity was key. I wanted to avoid anything overly complicated. In the end, as long as she could get the fireworks to play, I was happy. Her love for animals was also a major influence. Other than that, I would say I just wanted to create a world that wasn't overly cartoony, but still bright and cheerful.
You've gotten feedback from other players - an older audience (some of which are enjoying with their children) - and you've stated you'd like to revamp the game to incorporate that feedback. Will the target audience change with this revamp to allow parents to enjoy the game with their children? How so/not?
I am currently working on Gilbert 2.0. This will feature all new levels made from the ground up with more verticality and a lot more traditional gameplay in mind. You will now have to collect the correct number of fish to be able to unlock new areas, and each new area is also filled with fish to collect. I got inspired a lot by Mario Odyssey, so expect some influence from that game to work its way into Gilbert.
I also am adding new accessories, some in the form of powerups. Think of a jet pack or cute angel wings that will make your kitty glide down in grace. Well that's the plan. Besides the rocket, I am still prototyping these new mechanics.
I'm entertaining the idea of giving the kittens a lot more personality and their own names, as well as see if I can play around with funny little symbols and icons to visualize their mood or emotions. Maybe do so through spoken text dialogues, and give them random points of interest in a map. So, they might switch from playing ball to go meet up with a friend or just roam around, for instance.
The idea is to re-build on the foundation of the original game while completely revamping the entire game at the same time. From what I've seen so far in the new map, she's having a blast and that's without half of the new changes being implemented yet.
The thing with having a community is picking out things that should've been obvious, but because I am human, I didn't pick up on them. It's also because my daughter was at the helm and I didn't intend to sell Gilbert at the time. I will always try to listen to people as much as I am able to, but I will also always follow my own vision. That's why I prefer a fluid and organic approach. I can always change my mind, or work an awesome idea into my game thanks to feedback.
I am certainly not changing the game's demographic or target audience; I am simply noticing them and I am doing my best to also cater to them as well. I am just not sacrificing what Gilbert is at its core just to cater to a larger audience. Instead I am adding that layer into the game in a way that young and old can enjoy them.
I was surprised to see the number of older people playing the game, and it felt like I made a mistake. I still feel I have, but I am inexperienced in this area, haha.
What do you find that children value the most in their games?
I can't say much about other kids - age also matters - but for my daughter I noticed she valued freedom the most. So, some of the new levels should be more spacious. That, and just being able to interact with things. So I am trying to do a bit more with that too.
I also noticed that, despite adding more gameplay, features, etc, she will more often than not simply ignore all that and just have fun. Running around without a goal in mind and just do stuff. I want to keep that ability in the game as much as possible.
Is it easier to develop for children or adults? How so/not?
In my case, so far, I haven't felt much of a difference. I mean, Gilbert was never planned. Unlike my main project, which is a more mature adventure game, I haven't felt that much difference. I do like to hear about other parents opinions and how their kids enjoyed the game.
I think that if you have fun making the game and it's an honest game, people will enjoy playing it. They will pick up on your dedication and the care you put into it. As long as they had a good time, I'm happy. That is the end goal.
Do you feel you've grown closer to your daughter over the course of making the game together? What has this work done for your relationship with her?
A ton. I hope I can keep doing this and bring her onto the next game I'll make for her. I got to learn a lot about the kind of person she is. Little things that'll go on to define her personality in large or small ways. It's also funny to discover certain traits that she got from me. Just simply observing the way she goes about things, I see myself in a lot of things she does when I was smaller.
Luckily, I have a strong relationship with her, and having done this has added another layer to it. I used to do stuff with my mom a lot when I was growing up. My dad had to work a lot. He'd gotten into an accident when I was 5. He's been disabled since then. While I have a strong bond with my dad, we missed out on so many things because of that.
My daughter is turning five in a few months, and I'm glad I have a bond with her. While I work long days, I do take time off here and there to spend time with her and my wife.
I urge every parent to do something with their kid to try and get them involved a little bit with what you do, if possible of course. I make games. It's easier for me to share with her. I guess maybe that's a perk of being a developer and a father. ;)
Evidence That instructor Actually Functions
The best ways to Find out instructor.
Educators are the contractors of the future generation and assistance to form the occupation of the youngsters for the betterment of the society. Little is worse in the classroom compared to a teacher soaring through a lecture, formulas as well as theorems inscribed across a completely dry remove board, confused trainees struggling to keep up all the while. As an example, a primary trainee could be late because she lacks adult help to awaken and also prepare for college each day.
Transform Your instructor Into A High Doing Equipment.
Then, in university, one of my English professors, Dr. Magee, was a lot more motivating compared to any other teacher I ever had! Lots of records suggest the following decade will see a big turn over in the mentor profession as older educators begin to retire and more youthful ones replace them. ClassCraft is a FREE (although there is a premium variation which supplies extra features) online, instructional role-playing game that uses much of the traditional features discovered in today's on the internet video games and also permits teachers and also trainees to play with each other, in the class. When Robert told me that he had actually created a program called RealTime Talking, a workshop regarding genuine self-expression in public talking, I did not hesitate to sign up. During that workshop, I knew that I had located the instructor I required. Mentor works will certainly open and those educators that made an impression at the teacher task fair are the ones who will certainly get called. During this process, the educator needs to recognize the market of the area where they instruct. Our school area simply started making use of Marzano this year and it is being linked to our educator evaluation. Actually, several college managers and also seasoned teachers are graduates of this program. You will need to cut back on some things if you want to be able to pay your mortgage. Lack of knowledge can be bliss, however if you are obtaining lendings for instructors -, you could not tackle the problem, if you do not know just how negative it is. It was a large test for the students that a 19months old educator of their class is appearing in the very same course for teaching performance. Depending upon which component of the area you originated from, you were either 'in' our 'out' and also were dealt with as necessary by several of the instructors.
Making use of 7 educator Techniques Like The Pros.
Thus, if you desire your educator resume to stick out, you have to incorporate a couple of buzz words pertinent to the training area. I believe the major factor is that fees are accumulated by all those companies for every single person who requests teacher certification. The worth of an instructor is not measures by the number of suits he has, but by the quantity of help which he provides to his students. Embracing kids in a specialist setup is possibly not a great idea in this day as well as age. Aim to think about suggestions the teacher can do to assist your youngster that are not widely time taking in every day. You could make the songs educator Mr. Smith many of the same kind or produce a couple of batches as well as integrate the flavors to offer several different teachers multi-flavored batches. Appropriate time monitoring attracts you closer to a much more effective and delighted teacher life; therefore, eliminating risks and possibilities of obtaining stressed out. Teachers as well as parents can make use of the collected details to work out how rapid students read books as well as to which pupils awards need to be given. Resume specialists state that for a winning teacher return to, your return to need to have teaching philosophy included. You will also wish to be prepared to address questions from schoolmates effectively or affectively (dromoprosgymnastikis.pro) your instructor regarding the not so great aspects of studying abroad and also be able to transform those negatives into positives by stating good truths regarding researching abroad. Educator specialist advancement functions to improve a complex set of abilities, in contrast to one specific ability. I found out that a teacher incapable to encounter her own shadows can not guide her pupils to deal with, as well as relocate past, their very own. It is additionally observed that the kids are afraid of learning and also usually they develop an anxiety for class as well as instructor. You could be able to obtain a vocal singing educator work and when you are good enough, you could be suggested by the people around. An optimal instructor ought to reveal well, need to have a great voice and also should have love for mentor. Signing up in an expert teacher development program will develop the opportunity to locate guideline as well as communication with coaches possessing extremely substantial experience in the training area. There will be some who are outraged when they find out next week that it's already over and also others that are even today telling their moms and dad that they would really instead not return today due to the fact that the job is hard. I have actually had great comments from students along the way and also know I have it in me to be one of those influential-type instructors that a lot of educators actually want to be. Nevertheless, administrators have pretty much pushed me out of it because they think that, because my pupils typically aren't being in neat rows taking generous notes while they politely hear me talk, I don't have the proper classroom administration skills they value.
Two Final (and Favorite) Adaptogens: Rhodiola Rosea and Bacopa Monnieri
I’ve taken up the subject of adaptogens over the last several weeks, and today I’m wrapping it up with two of my favorites: Rhodiola rosea and Bacopa monnieri.
Primal aficionados from way back will know that I’m a big fan of Rhodiola rosea. It’s an integral component of one of the original Primal Blueprint supplements, Primal Calm. It’s a formula I put together for my own needs and eventually decided to offer in the supplement line. (That seems to be how I come up with things, I suppose….) I’ve written in the past about stress being one of the issues I’m still working on in my Primal life, and adaptogens have been a useful tool I’ve employed. Living with an ancestral template doesn’t preclude being scientifically resourceful.
But let’s dig into these final two players….
The Details on This Duo
Throughout my adaptogenic posts, I’ve made a point of dwelling briefly on the key elements and life cycle of each herb. Personally, I’m always hesitant using (or, indeed, recommending an herb or supplement that I’m not intimately familiar with. Knowing the ins and outs of the herb itself helps you know how to source the good stuff and how to minimize the footprint of that supplement wherever possible.
Rhodiola Rosea
No doubt reflecting its rich history of therapeutic use, Rhodiola rosea (rhodiola) goes by many names, including golden root and Arctic root. A perennial plant with red, pink or yellow flowers, rhodiola likes the barren tundra of northern latitudes and high altitudes best. It’s these kind of extreme growing conditions that seem to make a lot of adaptogens just so darn potent.
While Rhodiola Rosea is now grown in many of the colder parts of the world, including Canada, Alaska and Greenland, not all Rhodiola is created equal. This hardy herb is native to Siberia, and it appears that this is where it may traditionally have attained the highest concentration of therapeutic active ingredients. These healing ingredients are numerous and include an estimated 140 compounds isolated from both the roots and rhizome of the plant.
Bacopa Monnieri
As with many of the adaptogens I’ve already covered, Bacopa monnieri (bacopa) has been in therapeutic circulation in Ayurvedic circles for centuries. More recently, Western soothsayers have caught on to bacopa’s abilities as a powerful nootropic and analgesic.
Bacopa’s favorite haunts are a far cry from the windswept barrens of the north, instead preferring to grow in the wetlands of subtropical locales across the world. It’s a perennial, creeping herb that grows vigorously in a range of aquatic biomes, making it a popular aquarium plant.
Because bacopa is now native to much of the world’s wetlands, sourcing high quality extracts and supplements of the stuff isn’t going to be overly difficult. Bacopa is loaded with bacosides, the active chemical compounds that enable its adaptogenic impacts.
The Science on Rhodiola Rosea and Bacopa Monnieri
While there’s no shortage of research surrounding these two adaptogens, it’s worthwhile approaching any findings with a grain of salt. As with many emerging (in Western spheres, at least) subjects of interest in the literature, it often takes some time before a sufficiently broad spectrum of data is available to make any lasting assumptions about their efficacy. That being said, a lot of the preliminary research is very promising indeed.
Rhodiola Rosea
Arguably, rhodiola’s greatest claim to fame is its ability to alleviate stress (unsurprising, given its status as an adaptogen) and elevate mood via complex pathways that act on central biogenic amines and beta-endorphins. This, along with rhodiola’s neuroprotective, nootropic and antidepressive effects, is precisely why it’s an integral component in my Primal Calm formula.
But the rhodiola research is something of a minefield, riddled with studies confounded by small sample sizes, lack of placebo controls, and sometimes insignificant differences between treatment and control groups. That being said, most of the research is overwhelmingly in favor of rhodiola as a powerful therapeutic herb. This is one I have the most experience with, and I can say firsthand how the vast majority of these benefits have played out for me and others. That said, I’m all for more research on the matter.
Here’s the quick and dirty on what’s been unearthed so far.
Mental Health and Mood
A 2015 study published in the Journal of Phytotherapy Research sought to determine the impact of rhodiola on self-reported anxiety, stress, cognition, and a host of other mental parameters. Eighty subjects were divided into either a twice-daily commercial formula (containing 200 mg rhodiola) group or a control group. Compared to the controls, the rhodiola group showed notable improvements in mood and significant reductions in anxiety, stress, anger, confusion and depression after 14 days.
While the study presents a nice foray into the potential of rhodiola for treating any number of mental maladies, it’s important to note that supplements like the one used in the study are often loaded with nasty fillers. Why they feel the need to put titanium dioxide and several other strange ingredients is beyond me. Also worth noting is the short duration of the study and the fact that it wasn’t placebo controlled, but the study proponents seemed to think the results were still significant.
Getting down to specifics, there’s a fair amount of debate on whether rhodiola can provide a decent treatment for depression. Studies in mice indicate that injection of salidroside, one of rhodiola’s more notable active ingredients, can exert a strong antidepressant effect along with alleviating anxiety and enhancing fear memory. A small 12-week trial examining the effect of rhodiola on humans, on the other hand, suggested that the adaptogen was less effective than sertraline (the generic version of Zoloft) in treating major depressive disorder. Perhaps if the participants had been given a stronger dose or an extract higher in salidroside, however, the results would have been more favorable. (For those of you who have applied Primal Calm toward depression therapy, I’d be interested in hearing your experience on this.)
Physical and Mental Fatigue
Rumor has it that rhodiola may be a useful adaptogen to have on hand for times of both physical and mental fatigue. And what better people to test this hypothesis on than nursing students doing shift work? A 2014 study examined the effect of 364 mg rhodiola at the beginning of the student’s shift and again within the following four hours of shift work over a 42 day period. Somewhat surprisingly, the proponents found that rhodiola, compared with the placebo, actually worsened fatigue, mysteriously noting that the results should be interpreted with caution. Perhaps by alleviating the stress those students were under the rhodiola allowed them to relax and gain a heightened awareness of their levels of fatigue? One can only speculate. I’ve never made a point of using it for this kind of purpose, so I can’t speak to the point personally. Again, perhaps others of you can.
However, another study performed a meta-analysis of over 206 articles relating to rhodiola, with 11 of those specific to physical and mental fatigue. Two of six trials examining physical fatigue in healthy subjects found rhodiola to be effective, as did three out of five studies investigating its impact on mental fatigue. Not overwhelming odds, but there’s enough to suggest a connection and stimulate further research.
Exercise Performance and Recovery
While the research on rhodiola and physical fatigue is a trifle disappointing, findings relating to the effect of rhodiola on endurance and exercise performance are anything but.
A 2003 study examined the effects of oral rhodiola supplementation on exhaustive swimming in rats. Impressively, 50 mg/kg rhodiola extract was able to prolong the duration of exhaustive swimming by a substantive 25%, both in comparison with Rhodiola crenulata extract and controls. The R. rosea extract also activated synthesis of ATP in skeletal muscle mitochondria and encouraged faster recovery after intensive exercise.
Two small studies on humans have produced similarly promising results. A 4-week trial on 14 trained male athletes showed that rhodiola supplementation reduced lactate concentrations along with lowering certain markers of skeletal muscle damage during exhaustive exercise.
A slightly larger study compared rhodiola supplementation (200 mg rhodiola plus 500 mg starch) to a placebo of straight starch. Over the course of several different trials involving limb movement speed, aural and visual reaction time, knee extensions and endurance exercise, researchers found that rhodiola intake significantly increased time to exhaustion and elevated pulmonary ventilation during exercise. The take-away? “Acute Rhodiola rosea intake can improve endurance exercise capacity in young healthy volunteers.” This purpose, along with mitigating mental stress, has been closer to my personal use of the adaptogen.
Bacopa Monnieri Memory and Cognition
Bacopa earned its hallowed status in the Ayurvedic world largely on its purported ability to improve memory and elevate cognitive function. If three centuries of anecdotal evidence is anything to go by, bacopa (aka brahmi) is a nootropic force to be reckoned with. But what does science say about the matter?
As usual, the jury is still out on this one. A 2002 study tested the effects of bacopa on various memory functions in 76 participants ages 40 and 65. Aside from a reported improvement in new information retention, other memory variables were unaffected by long-term bacopa supplementation.
At the other end of the spectrum, a similar study with a larger group of older Australians found that bacopa supplementation over the course of three months significantly improved verbal learning, memory acquisition, and delayed recalls. Given that this was a larger, more recent study, I’m more inclined to give credence to the results of this study, but clearly there’s a need for more research on the topic.
In the cognition arena, things are a little less contested. A 2014 meta-analysis that included 437 subjects across 9 studies indicated that bacopa can improve cognition and decrease choice reaction time. That could be all the edge you need to win your favorite gameshow.
Finally, another meta-analysis published in 2016, found that across five studies bacopa demonstrated significant improvements in language behavior and a number of memory sub-domains.
Pain
Beyond clarity of mind, bacopa shows a decent amount of potential in the analgesic arena. A 2013 literature review noted that “Bacopa monnieri, a renowned ayurvedic medicine has a strong antidepressant effect and significant antinociceptive effect, which is comparable to the effect of morphine via adenosinergic, opioidergic, and adrenergic mechanisms. BM has been also reported to be effective in neuropathic pains.”
This could make bacopa an effective augmentation to conventional morphine pain relief for certain applications (a pain specialist would be able to speak to specific conditions more than I can here), with the added benefit that it appears to alleviate some of the side effects associated with chronic opiate use. For those who live with chronic pain and depend on conventional pain meds (especially opiates) even after healthy lifestyle adjustments, it might be worth a talk with your doctor.
Drilling down into the specific studies, the findings appear no less promising. A paper that examined the effect of bacopa extract on neuropathic pain found that it increased pain thresholds and reduced hyper-sensitivity. Other tests on animals echo these findings, with bacopa providing an opioid-type pain relief without the withdrawal symptoms associated with the likes or morphine.
Neurodegeneration
Given bacopa’s role as a nootropic, it’s not overly surprising to discover that it may also be an effective natural treatment for neurodegenerative diseases. A 2013 study that compared the neuroprotective abilities of bacopa to donepezil, a common prescription treatment for Alzheimer’s, found that bacopa was at least as capable as the pharmaceutical in many respects, making it a potentially powerful drug in the treatment of certain neurodegenerative diseases.
Another study published this year showed that bacopa administration “was seen to protect the cholinergic neurons and reduce anticholinesterase activity comparable to donepezil, rivastigmine, and galantamine.” Researchers found that bacopa promoted free radical scavenging and helped to protect cells in the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and other areas of the brain.
What Are the Contraindications?
Over the course of these adaptogenic articles, I’ve had a hard time tracking down anything overly damning in terms of side effects or contraindications. There’s a reason for that: adaptogens are generalists by nature, alleviating stress throughout the body—but in so doing bypassing many of the side effects associated with condition-specific drugs and treatments.
With that said, there are times when you should use these herbs carefully or not at all. And, the usual disclaimer—consult your physician before beginning any new supplement regimen (but you know this already). Here’s a quick look at dosage effects and complications associated with rhodiola and bacopa.
Rhodiola Rosea
Lab tests indicate that reaching toxicity levels from rhodiola supplementation would be very difficult indeed, with a 70kg man needing around 235,000 mg rhodiola to knock himself flat. Given typical doses range between 200 and 600 mg per day, it’s fair to say that you needn’t worry overmuch.
As far as side effects go, it’s a slippery slope. Keep in mind that individual reactions vary. Based on anecdotal hearsay, small doses of rhodiola can produce energizing effects while large doses may send you in the other direction, making one relaxed or drowsy. The reason behind this may be due to the opioid-type effect rhodiola exerts on the brain, elevating mood and concentration and even increasing caffeine metabolism.
This in turn can make people who are anxious or high-strung feel jittery or overstimulated, particularly if they’ve made the mistake of also knocking back a cup of coffee that morning. The drowsy effects may come about due to the depletion of those same neurotransmitters, caused by overdosing on rhodiola and hence overloading the receptors.
As such, those who consume a lot of caffeine or suffer from bipolar disorder should probably steer clear of rhodiola.
I also make a point of saying pregnant or nursing women should avoid adaptogens.
Bacopa Monnieri
Bacopa side effects are slightly more straightforward: mild nausea, upset stomach and diarrhea are uncommon but possible—probably if you’re taking too high a dose or too frequently. Studies in rats have indicated that bacopa supplementation at high doses can result in lowered fertility, but whether this applies to humans or not is anyone’s guess.
It’s important to note that bacopa is contraindicated if you’re taking thyroid medications, antidepressants, or sedatives. And, again, avoid if you’re pregnant or nursing.
What to Look for in a Supplement
As always, choosing quality over quantity is always a wise move when you’re in the market for adaptogens. Find out where the adaptogen in question grows best, what active ingredients it should contain in sufficient concentrations, and how it’s been processed and packaged.
For rhodiola supplements, seek out products that contain 2 to 3% rosavin and at least 0.8% salidrosides. (This generally reflects the formula used in scientific trials.) A lower dosage of well-sourced, potent rhodiola can work for most people (100 grams does it for me), but if you have particular needs that suggest a higher dosage might be better, increase slowly with a maximum of 400 mg/day if it sits well with you. As always,
Similar advice applies to bacopa, however the origin doesn’t matter quite as much. Try to source organic bacopa supplements where possible, and only buy those that are packaged in light-resistant containers. It seems 300 mg/day appears to be the “sweet spot” for bacopa supplementation, but once again play it safe and start with a low dosage and work your way up. Everyone’s tolerance is different. Less can be more.
This wraps up my foray into adaptogens for a while. Thanks for stopping by today. Let me know if you have follow-up questions or other adaptogens you’d like to see covered down the road. Take care.
