#PHnews: Cotabato City‘s 'most wanted' killed in shootout
COTABATO CITY – Police killed this city’s "most wanted" man in a shootout on Tuesday afternoon following the serving of a warrant for his arrest for multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder charges in Barangay Kalanganan 2 here.
In a report, Lt. Canda Camsa, city police station 3 commander, identified the slain suspect as Alip Kitab, of Purok Lagundongan, Barangay Kalanganan.
“Kitab resisted arrest and fired at the arresting team, prompting the lawmen to fire back,” h said in his report to the Cotabato City Police Office (CCPO) headquarters.
Armed with a warrant issued by a local court, personnel of the city police station 3--backed by elements of the police’s 1404th Regional Mobile Force Company and Army’s 5th Special Forces Battalion--swooped down on the suspect’s house around 4:30 p.m. after receiving a tip from concerned villagers.
Kitab attempted to escape, firing at the lawmen during a brief chase. When the smoke cleared, the suspect laid motionless at a dirt road not far from his safe house in Purok Lagundongan.
“The suspect was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival by doctors,” Camsa said.
Recovered at the site of the shootout was Kitab’s .45-caliber pistol. CCPO records showed that Kitab has pending arrest warrants for murder charges in 2014 and 2015, and also frustrated murder charges in 2018.
In 2014, the suspect was tagged as one of four suspects in the slaying of Randolf Ferolin Cabanog, a meter reader of the Cotabato Light and Power Company (Colight) here.
Police said that Cabanog was attending to his work reading Colight meters along Datu Kadir Datumanong Street, Barangay Bagua Mother, when approached and shot dead by Kitab and cohorts on May 10, 2014. (PNA)
