We had pod members from 3 different CA transient matrilines meet up and socialize around our boat. For the duration of our trip these whales came back to our vessel multiple times to checkout our passengers on the bow. Unlike landscape photography, astrophotography, or portrait photography, photographing marine life is all about sight, reactions, and knowing your subject. There is no time to set up your shot, no second chance to capture a moment, and no remorse from your subject — When I first starting photographing wildlife, I had no clue what I was doing. I couldn’t get a good shot of a common dolphin or humpback to save my life. With the help of @kristincampbell and just spending more time on the water, my craft started to take shape. The number one thing I can recommend to people trying to get into wildlife photography is to know your subject. Spending time in nature and learning about their behaviors, patterns, and interests is the best way to capture the brief moments we get into their world. Credit © 🎬 ✅ @adam_ernster onboard @condorexpresssb Saving entangled dolphins is not always expected on the schedule for a day on the water, but our crew aboard the CX wakes up prepared for anything! Deckhand @devin.hunt along with galley mate @auzz91 helped save the life of this beautiful common dolphin today. Entangled in what appears to be a lobster trap line, this dolphin had gotten the rope entangled around its mouth, back and pectoral flippers. The crew pulled up alongside the lethargic dolphin with expert boat driving by @captainbeezer After a few head thrashes by the dolphin, and some cutting of the line by the crew, the dolphin was eventually free’d from the rope entanglement! A special special encounter for us today as we got to save one of the animals we love so dearly. What a fighter!
