“And once the storm is over you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive” – Haruki Murakami
Jaladhar DS | Contemporary Resident | 28 years – a sneak peek into what is Jaladhar doing that will change him forever.
1) How has the present situation caused an impact on your life and how are you coping with it?
- As Covid-19 is breaking out over the world and we are all locked-down, this is the first time everyone is facing a situation like this. I am from Kerala and I am staying in Baroda city, here places have turned into empty space and less polluted. During this time, staying at home is the only thing we can do to support our nation to control the community spreading. So as a common man I am cooperating with it and also hoping that everything will become normal soon.
2) How have you been using this time? Have you been able to develop any work or something from your practice that you would like to share with us?
- This time has pushed me to think deeply about human creature - ‘What we have done? What we are doing now?’ Nature has proved that each and every creature in the world has an equal right to live a life in freedom. (nature has never discriminated against any creature) There is no partiality based on religion, rich or poor. Meanwhile, I am drawing sketches based on this situation. I will work over this while I am using the studio. - As the studio is situated on 10th floor of the building; I can see the wide scene of the city like sea and also few trees in between some huge buildings and tight traffic of this modern world. It is helping me to have ideas to do work about urbanization. - Currently I am using mediums like newspaper, charcoal pieces, nut and bolt etc.. - I made a composition with newspaper cuttings of different size for good perspective. I used Baroda daily newspaper to get the essence of political, commercial, technical and social relevant images and writings which makes dialogues of current situation and culture of society. I used charcoal to represent the trees, nut and bolts to represent the mechanical life and leather sheets to represent the human encroachment. - A video on YouTube which shows the areas affected by Corona Virus; supporting my idea. sharing the link- https://youtu.be/I2hNKrfsyNw
3) What are you currently reading and if you can think of an artist or any liberal artist to quote for this period? - I have just started to read `A Brief History of Time’ by Carl Sagan.
