Changes in Tankhun's Style

Tankhun's usual outfits are bright and multi-layered which makes him attract a lot of attention and appear bigger than he actually is.

His choice of colours contrasts with his brothers', and he does come across as childish (especially in his use of bright animal print and pink colour). What's also important is that he doesn't show skin and his outfits are not aimed to look sexy. It's like he's stuck in his pre-pubescent years when it's all fun and games.

We don't know when exactly he was kidnapped and what was done to him, but it affected his develompent.

Porsche got him out of the house and introduced him to partying (and porn), but it was Tawan's drama during which Tankhun's outfits actually change.

First, the opened buttons of the white outfit. Tankhun is deliberately showing some skin. Then, the outfit that could easily belong to Kim (black leather + red T-shirt). Too ordinary if you ask me. Then there's the translucent half-open shirt with no additional layers. We can literally see his nipples.

He's changing his style from pre-pubescent to adolescent. It is becoming more revealing and sexual (gone are pink colours and crazy patters), and his behaviour also changes becoming more rebellious.

Tankhun takes part in the business meeting with his uncle (he was absent the previous time when Kinn had to choke Porsche). He's loud in his opinions, and I do believe papa Korn allowed him there as a provocative factor. He observes his brother's reaction to Khun's valid accusations. I think he's also happy to see the changes in Khun.

What we get from Kinn's wardrobe is that he follows the rules. He's in a tuxedo if it's a black tie event, he's in suits when he's working, he wears something less formal when he has no plans to leave the premises, he's in silk pants and a bathrobe when he goes to bed.

Kinn is both protected by the system and held hostage by it.

His wardrobe used to have structure, and it's totally ruined as soon as he falls into a relationship with Porsche.

Wrong socks? Porsche's clothes and shoes? He's letting Porsche's chaos in.

He wears a T-shirt of his own volition. Not a polo shirt! It wasn't even their date. Kinn bought some T-shirts for himself because once he'd had a taste he couldn't stop.

Update: In the comments, there's an assumption that it's actually Porsche's T-shirt (from EP3? The hue seems off a bit). But I love the theory!

Vegas and his style

Vegas wears leather, and no one is surprised.

He's meant to wear something that would remind the audience of an animal: the print and the leather add to the overall impression that human morals are not a priority for him, and that he's a (sexual) apex predator.

His everyday outfits have either deep colour or velvet/satin shine or everything at once. He does not look like part of any structure and he doesn't seem to like the confines of suits. Formality seems too restricting to him.

He wears a suit only one time... but he ignores the dress code.

A black tie event implies there will be a black bow-tie, contrasting (usually black) buttons and a tuxedo. Compare his outfit with the examples from this website, and you'll see how hard he's rebelling against traditions.

It appears that Vegas tries to defy any type of structure and traditions; he's unhappy with his place in the hierarchy. He wants to rule, but he's given the second place, so he won't protect the existing order of things.

When he's on a mission, his outfits are utilitarian. He is not afraid to get his hands dirty - he welcomes any opportunity to be violent and dominant, and his practical T-shirts and even that raincoat show it all.

Kinn's black T-shirt from EP8

In my post about the changes in Kinn's style, @electronicdonutpeach suggested that Kinn's black T-shirt was actually Porsche's, and our simp boy actually pinched it from his wardrobe.

I loved the idea, but I've been bothered by the fact that I couldn't find a single deep black T-shirt that Porsche had worn casually in the previous episodes. The closest that I got was a black T-shirt from EP3 (wrong hue?) and a dark blue T-shirt from EP5-EP6 (same).

But then I understood that a black T-shirt is actually part of the bodyguards' uniform.

I think he's stealing Porsche's uniform :D It looks too tight on his shoulders, doesn't it?

Poetic cinema! He's protected Porsche so much that he might as well become his bodyguard himself.

Porsche and changes in his style

So, Porsche BK (before Kinn) used to have 2 types of clothes: shirts for the bar/university and T-shirts for all other occasions. His life was not easy, but it was simple enough, and there was no need for anything else. As an underground fighter, he chose to take his T-shirt off entirely.

When he joins the mafia, his bar/university clothes is replaced with a uniform which he hates. He feels extremely uncomfortable and out of place (both in the mafia and in the uniform), and we can see how he loathes the jackets as the quintessence of structure and hierarchy. He seems to feel okay with the undershirts though.

With time, Porsche seems to accept the uniform (without a jacket), and it reflects how he gradually becomes more serious about the job, and he's also found his place within the hierarchy.

After EP4, when you-know-what happens, he wears layers with his casual T-shirt for the first time. But when he returns home to Chay, he gets back to his T-shirts. I've seen some comments that he started to dress in a less revealing way because of what happened to him - if it's about the tiddies-out look, I think he dropped the half-open shirts as soon as he started working for Kinn, and that layered outfit (that Kinn would wear later) was the only brief change after EP4.

In EP7, Porsche wears a lot of new outfits. All of them are practical, and he does look comfortable in them. He finally conforms to the rules and does whatever is needed from him, and he does it to protect Kinn's place and authority. He tried to blend into the crowd in the casino, he matched the team in the attacks.

In EP8, Porsche switches clothes with Kinn. He doesn't choose a suit or even just a dress shirt, but he chooses a soft pullover. Despite accepting his role for the moment, a suit still isn't something he'd pick.

I think it's endearing that the dark blue pullover is something of Kinn's that Porsche chooses for himself to enjoy. It's the softer side of Kinn that he loves and needs.

And he wears a layered casual outfit again in Yok's bar. Emotional turmoil? Trying to conceil his vulnerable state? Both, I believe.

But my personal favourite detail is when Porsche finally rips his uniform to pieces with Kinn's approval. GOOD FOR YOU, KING! You've been waiting for ages!

SUITS and LAPELS [EP 7]

Okay, so there wasn't much to look at in terms of clothes in episodes 5 and 6, but episode 7 is HEAVEN. Hop into my brainrot! I guess it will take me a couple of posts to cover everything. But let's start with suits.

The innocent man. He does look out of place among all the people dressed in short sleeve shirts and that's what gives a hint that he's not really trying to blend in. Notch lapels make his suit look quite ordinary, but the colour shows he does care about personal style.

Papa Gun wears a suit with notch lapels this time. Previously (EP2), he opted for peak lapels, and his presence was more openly confrontational.

But in EP7 we can see how different his attitude is. He's happier, even triumphant that he's managed to put the major family in such a position. Therefore, he's trying to look non-threatening in order to make his victory more palatable. He's faking innocence and care. It's possible that the whole mess with Don was his doing.

None of the minor family's bodyguards wear traditional suits. It shows more rough power and less structure (which isn't ideal for their kind of business). The place itself is like a maze which supports my idea.

To put it simply, the minor family's bodyguards look like a low-class mafia compared to Korn's men. It also hints that they are not above dirty methods, and their approach to crime is less honourable (however ridiculuous it may sound). The major family honours their own code, and the minor family? We'll see, but it doesn't seem like any types of codes are for them.

Time's jacket is interesting because there are no traditional lapels at all. He doesn't appear interested in traditions and conventional values at all (including faithfulness).

Kinn actually wears it in the 2nd episode! It’s the first time he wears it in the series.

Here he’s complaining about Porsche while Chan talks about Korn having faith in the new guy. Kinn looks open and contemplative.

You know what? I think it’s his favourite shirt. He almost never re-wears anything (even bathrobes), but I see the shirt for the 3rd time. He LOVES it despite the fact that it doesn’t exactly fit well in his wardrobe.

SUITS and LAPELS [EPS 3-4]

This post is going to be gigantic.

The orange atrocity. The insult to notch lapels and shoulder pads. Khun is never interested in anything ordinary but let’s admit that the fit of the jacket is... not... good. As he never leaves the house, he’s trying to pass the time, and we have to deal with his sense of humour (I do believe it all started as a joke and then he just got too into it to stop). Whatever brings joy to my favourite boy. 

Another insult to shoulder pads, but with peak lapels. He’s feeling quite daring this time! I’d say he feels good about having partied, and he’s trying to take the party with him to his rooms.

It’s a formal black suit with peak lapels, but his tiddies are still uncontained (it might be quite hot in summer). There’s certain coldness (the achromatic colours) and agressiveness in the whole outfit (the sharp angles of the lapels), and it suits the occasion.

It’s a red velvet tuxedo (such suits tend to have satin lapels) which is highly formal (with shawl lapels and a bow-tie. Ffs please let it not be clip-on!) The colour is a statement. Kinn wears red when he’s prepared to fight (Vegas and other bidders, a rival or his own feelings). 

It’s difficult to see but the mafia couple are wearing similar suits (in colour and peak lapel style). I guess it means that they are still strong (as strong as it’s possible with the whole subplot of you-know-what) and that the whole group is actually quite “royal” and ruthless (peak lapels means maximum formality, wealth and even agression). 

They don’t attempt to steal the attention from Kinn with their choices of colour. 

Moving on to other guests.

Here’s less aggression and competition and more neutral striving for beauty and attention. Even the bow-tie is softer-looking. I guess it either reflects the owner’s attitude or the way the owner wants to deceive people using appearance. The latter is more likely as the character (miss Jessica) is doing her own bidding, and there’s no one near her who would feel like a greater and more powerful influence.

Judging by the trailer, peak lapels are the only choice for Vegas. He wants to show off his wealth, position, and he obviously wants to look grander than he is. Just like his father and, as I assume, his brother Macao. I also think the colour choice is ironic, and, as I have previously mentioned in my other posts, it’s an indirect contrast to Pete’s total black look.

A standard tuxedo on the host. Still looks like a gothic snowman in my opinion. Those black buttons...
