Do the Robins really think of each other as siblings? I know they all consider Dick a brother and vice versa, but between all them, is there really a sibling dynamic/consideration? Do they ever call each other as such?
Okay, so, off the bat (heh) from the phrasing of this ask I want to clarify something:
Namely that the hero role of ‘Robin’ does not inherently have a familial tie.
‘Robin’ is a hero role that has (in main continuity) been filled by: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, Damian Wayne, and in a slightly less formal way Duke Thomas (he was a member of the We Are Robin movement and the most prominently featured of that group, though he did not really act as ‘Batman’s sidekick Robin’ which is why he’s kinda in his own category here but still worth mentioning).
However, that’s not to say there are no familial ties there. From the list of Robins… Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake are the adopted sons of Bruce Wayne. Damian Wayne is Bruce’s biological son. Duke Thomas was for a time fostered by Bruce, though that is not presently the case (he lives with his uncle instead nowadays). And, while not a Robin, it’s also worth mentioning that Cassandra Cain (Batgirl) is Bruce’s adopted daughter.
So, to answer the baseline question of ‘Do the Robins really think of each other as siblings?’ I would say 'most of them do, the ones that are adopted siblings'. But like, Steph isn't their sister, and they aren't her brothers. That’s simply not the case there, she's never been adopted by Bruce (not to mention one of them—Tim—is literally her ex-boyfriend).
I think it’s very safe to say that among the ‘Dick, Tim, Jason, Damian’ grouping, yes canon has pretty clearly shown that they do all have a brotherly dynamic. They don't all use the specific phrasing that frequently, but it's not uncommon for them to—whether to directly call one another brothers, or to talk about their shared (adopted or otherwise) dad. This isn't to say they are all close or all have good relationships with one another all the time (lol no, Dick & Tim are close/generally have a good relationship, and Dick & Damian are also close/generally have a good relationship, but aside from that things get rockier/vary a lot more) but at the core there's a brotherly thing with all the ups and downs that entails.
To pull some examples of either using that phrasing or showing that kind of dynamic from books published within the last few years:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Dick & Jason in Nightwing (2016) Annual #1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Dick talking about Tim in Nightwing (2016) #80)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Dick talking about Damian in Nightwing (2016) #110)
Tumblr media
(Jason & Tim [& Cass] in Task Force Z #8)
Tumblr media
(Jason & Damian Robin (2021) #5. I do feel the need to mention that on Damian's end this hug was also a distraction to then electrocute Jason. That's just how he is sometimes. but the hug was genuine on Jason's end 🤷)
Tumblr media
(Tim & Damian [& Dick] in Batman #138)
That’s just some stuff I could think of off the top of my head, there’s definitely more examples (and also if I went further back, but I'm approaching this anon from a 'the current state of things' POV).
Also worth noting that Dick & Damian’s relationship does kinda toe a line between ‘brothers’ and ‘pseudo father-son’ due to Dick needing to fulfill a parental role while Bruce was dead (pre-N52, like, Batman and Robin (2009) era). They’re still more brothers than anything else, but with such a large age gap and the way responsibilities had to be taken due to the situation at the time, it makes things complex, ya know! In general, I think that’s something to keep in mind—it’s not that these guys all lived together as one happy family with Bruce at any given point in time (they did Not), but despite that they still are family. They each have a complicated relationship with Bruce, and complicated relationships with one another, but they are (and see each other as) family regardless. A messy and non-traditional family, but still a family.
The thing I think some people get confused with is the way that the greater 'Batfamily' is more what we think of as a 'found family' where characters don't necessarily fall into traditional familial roles... because that includes people like Barbara Gordon, Stephanie Brown, Helena Bertinelli, etcpeople who are bats but are not part of the Wayne family. Like... The Wayne Family and The Batfamily are not synonymous. The Wayne Family is a separate but partially overlapping thing. The Waynes are Bats but not all Bats are Waynes, ya know? And like, it's only further confusing because of how most of Bruce's adopted kids kept their original last names even after adoption, so it's not always clear at a glance who falls into which group if you're not super familiar with the characters.
NOW, the person I think this gets a bit fuzzy with in terms of placement is Duke… he's obviously part of the Batfamily, but where exactly he sits in relation to the Wayne Family has like, been different at different points in time. Because he was Bruce's foster child for a while, and now he isn’t anymore. So in terms of his relationship with the other Robins, it definitely is more familial than like, Steph's relationships with any of the others—because he was their foster brother—but it's not quite as strictly defined as among the 'Dick, Jason, Tim, Damian' grouping. I’m gonna link this post by a Duke-centric blog which goes into some of this more clearly!

Cuckoo
It wasn't his fault. None of it was.
Not his parents leaving him to go on digs or to go away for business meetings and such, not for having to spend most of his childhood alone in his big house. Not being able to experience a some-what normal childhood like most of the world did. Well, if you could consider normal childhoods like figuring out which Rouge, villain, or hero you'd wanna be for Halloween and risk the chance of that hero or villain seeing you out like that and taking a picture with you at least.
And it wasn't like Tim was jealous that he didn't get a "normal" childhood- or life for that matter! His parents provided safety, a large mansion that he graciously lived in for most of his life, food, access to just about anything technology wise, and utilities! Most gothamites didn't even have three of those things. Just because of the fact that he didn't have a some-what normal childhood didn't mean that Tim was jealous of other people for that. Heck, he should be grateful!
Then why did he have this feeling in the back of hit throat whenever he was stressed out when cases were loaded onto him? Why did he start to feel a bit to overwhelmed than usual when things with his share of WE and Red Robin got to much? It didn't use to be like this, well, maybe it was. Maybe he just didn't really notice it before. Or maybe he did, maybe he did notice it and just push it down with every other burden in his life.
Yeah he's gone through a crazy ton of stuff, who hasn't? For Christ's sake, at least he still had basic necessities. And he had somewhat of a family, it was more than what was offered to him when he was birthed at least. Yeah they were a handful, and stressful- but that was only because they cared about him. At least he thinks so, it would make sense if they didn't. As a matter of fact he knows they probably don't as much. He was just a placeholder, a pretender. Heck, he stalked them for Christ's sake. He's a weirdo. It's been made known multiple, times before. Dick wanted to send him away to Arkham when Bruce "died", Jason tried to kill him, heck they still weren't on the bestest of terms after that. Damian tried to kill him on multiple occasions and resents him. Steph...
He scoffs, rolling his eyes a bit.
"Hell if I know with her anymore."
Red Robin and Nightwing were currently patrolling the west side of the city, near the docks. Nightwing had gone towards the outer city part of the docks, leaving Red Robin alone for the time being closer to the boats. Letting out a huff of air, RR leapt from shipping container to shipping container.
"S'not like they even need me..like, why the hell am I even here?..I jus' like-"
A minorly erupt thud comes from one of the shipping containers after RR lands on it rather roughly- the big bad bat wouldn't be proud at that one.
"Ow- shit-.. whatever. Jesus fuc- why in the world am I even here?? Like, really."
Red Robin softly taped his ear piece twice, connecting it to the line where Nightwing and Oracle where the only ones residing.
"It's a slow night..Wing, check in."
The line beeped once for confirmation.
"Nothing much here Red, I'm gonna head back to the cave before I leave for blud tomorrow. You should head back soon too."
RR squatted down onto the shipping container, "Will do wing. RR out." A soft beeping noise could be heard, letting him know that the line had been closed for the night.
Sighing, Red Robin leapt from container to container until finnally grappling onto a nearby building.
This is what he liked to do most, it was his favorite personal thing to do when he had first became Robin. Feeling the cool Gotham air fill his hair and lungs as he flew from rooftop to rooftop. It was like his form of a teenage rebellion. Defying all laws of gravity and life and just living. Just flying.
Seeing the cave entrance at last he snuck in silently, not like that make any differences, seeing as it required a DNA confirmation and retinal scan along with multiple passwords and confirmation in order to get in. Dicks request, after everything with Talon and the Court of Owls of course. Although Tim considered it overkill.
"Batman, Hood." Tim acknowledged. Earning a grunt and a roughened dismissal, "hey" in return.
Shedding his uniform and hitting the showers, letting the warm water run off of his hair and body. Letting his thoughts run free.
He must've been in there for a while, cause when he came to from his trance the locker room had become misty with steam. Drying off and changing clothes with haste, he finishes up and steps back out into the cave.
"Crap-"
He thinks, quickly noticing the shift in atmosphere from the hot bathroom and the seemingly icy one of the cave. He's gotta get outta here, the quick change from hot to cold does not pair well with having no spleen. In which no one on the team really knows about. It's not really their business anyways, if they really wanted to know more about him, the world's greatest detective could've just figured it out himself.
"Tim?" God damnit.
Tim halts midway up the stairway, "Yeah? Is there something you need B?"
"Yeah...come here for a moment please."
"Fuuuuckkkk" He mentally reprimanded himself.
Stepping down with as much haste as his already tired legs would let him, Tim walks up to Bruce and the Batcomputer.
"Yeah B? What's up?"
Without even turning towards him, Bruce hands Tim a large envelope. "This is new info on the Dowry case. New info showed up, the father apparently left the kid alone for weeks on end. I need you to investigate why he did and what he was doing during this time."
Tim opens the envelope slightly, glazing over its contents.
"Okay..thanks B." Tim rushes up the staircase and shuts the clock behind him. Great. Just great. Not only did he already have to try and push back that godforsaken feeling in his throat and head away, but he had to do even more paperwork and had the chance of catching a stupid cold. All just because dumb ol' Batsy couldn't wait until tomorrow to give him this case. He couldn't really blame Bruce for that though..that was stupid, and childish.
Mopely shrugging to his room and flopping lazily onto his bed, Tim rips open the envelope and sets down the paperwork and photographs. Cold, hard, evidence. Tim could do that, simple enough. Can't fuck up cold hard set in stone facts. This was good, this was something he was good at.
As the hours past, Tim had gotten so in the zone with this case it was almost solved. The dad was off in Kansas reliving his glory days for some strange reason, and in doing that had just left his kid off in their house to fend for themselves.
And that's when it hit him, hard.
He could see himself in the kid, little Timothy Jackson Drake. So mature for his age, so smart. He skipped a grade in school don't you know? He's able to fend for himself.
The kid was almost just like him in some aspects, same short black hair, pale skin, blue eyes- oh god-
His parents.
He could see his parents in those eyes.
Those eyes that were almost like his mother's. Those sharp, demanding eyes.
Tim hadn't even realized he was staring at the picture until water began to stain the photo, making it rise with bumps after a while.
Jesus, why was he even crying? S'not like it's even a big deal. He can take care of himself, maybe this kid couldn't but that was just because he was a- a kid!! Tim was different. Tim had been smarter than all the other kids in his grades he has straight A's, he excelled.
That was the difference between him and this kid.
He wouldn't understand the type of pain that this kid went through, he couldn't.
Then why was that feeling back stronger than ever? Why did he feel a blooming warmth in his chest, trying to fill that void? Why did his head feel light and misty like a cloud? And why did he kind of want it to take over?
Setting down the photo and leaning back, he runs his hands through his hair, sighing.
"I don't know what's wrong with me...what's wrong with me...why am I like this.."
Soft tears ran down rose pink cheeks, landing on the soft bedding below. What if..what if he let the mist take over? Just for once? Maybe just..softly. He didn't even know what that feeling was but, it seemed to slightly feel good. Maybe it would make him feel better if he laid down. Tim turned off his bedside lamp and got up.
Pulling up the covers, he got under them and closed his eyes. Slowly letting the warmth blossom in his chest and take over, drifting softly to sleep.

okay so: there are a decent amount of timber fics that pit Tim and Bernard against each other as enemies in some way. some variations of this include Bernard getting possessed, Tim as Joker Junior, or Bernard as a mob heir. but, you know, we are missing one scenario: evil gun Batman.
but this post is not about timber + evil gun batman!tim. this post is about the circumstances that it would take to get Tim to agree to being Batman in the first place, which are many because of our current set of characters. but first, let's discuss our theoretical worldstate.
1) Approximate ages
Tim is 24. Steph is 25, Cass and Jason are both ~26, Dick is like...31?, Duke is 22, and Damian is 18. I don't know how old Babs is in the current canon but we'll assume that she's, like, a couple years older than Dick. Helena Bertinelli (who will matter later in this) is between Dick and Barbara. Bruce is in his 40s and we'll just leave it at that.
2) Hero mantles
It's pretty much what you would expect, but I'll detail a couple things: Cass and Steph are still sharing Batgirl, but Babs has stopped the mantle entirely and is Oracle full-time, as she should be. Damian is still Robin but he's not happy about it and is on the verge of quitting to become someone else/leave Gotham/whatever. Tim is...it's complicated, okay? It's not that Tim doesn't want to be a vigilante. He definitely has a healthy civilian-vigilante life balance! I think right now he's not really patrolling formally, but he does do stuff for the vigilante network that Babs doesn't because she's busy with the Birds of Prey/non-Bat projects she's working on right now and can't keep track of vigilantes in Gotham who aren't the Bats. People like Xanthe, Helena, Claire (Gotham Girl), some non-Duke We Are Robin alumns, etc.
3) Other miscellaneous stuff
Kate is in the Bat-circle, but falls more under Tim's purview of "vigilantes operating out of Gotham who aren't really part of the Batfam" than under Bruce's purview of "Batfam leader". She's still Batwoman, though. Darcy Thomas is still friends with Tim and operating as Sparrow, but with an actual vigilante costume and not just a purple hoodie and a domino mask. Tim operates out of a larger version of the murder houseboat.
Okay, now: why is Tim Batman, again?
Tim does not want to be Batman. This is important. This is also preceded by a giant conga line of tragedies. For this to happen, Dick, Cass, and Bruce all either real-die or fake-die. I imagine Bruce is not really dead because he's not allowed to die. He just got lost in the multiverse because of a glitchy portal or something. Cass died in the line of fire trying to protect someone, because if she did try to dodge the bullets someone would die. Not sure about Dick yet. Maybe he had to fake his death again to go undercover. (Tim will absolutely call him an asshole for this.) The order of events is probably that Dick is the first one, then Bruce, then Cass. Cass ends up surviving the injury miraculously, but is in a coma/stuck in physical therapy/unable to do vigilante work. Damian is at a point in his character development where he no longer wants to be Batman. Helena does not want to do that again. Jason is like "fuck Batman we do not need Batman".
Duke asks if there's anyone else who's ever been Batman. Tim has flashbacks to Azbats. But then he does have a brainwave and attempts to reach Helena, but Babs says she's out on an important thing for the Birds of Prey and won't be back for a while. >:(
Nobody wants to be Batman, but Tim is exactly the kind of character who would do it anyways because Gotham needs a Batman. (Someone who is better read on Damian would be able to talk about how this impacts him, but I'm sure it would not be pretty, especially considering the character developments I've given him for this scenario. He does not want to be Robin anymore! He was already approaching that point when Bruce disappeared!)

What I Mean By "I Hate This Character." or "I Think x Is A Terrible Character."
Also, so no one misunderstands me saying "I think Damian is a terrible character", I think every Bat-Family character is a terrible character at the moment.
I think they're all simply awful currently. That's why when I was more active I was a 90s Tim Drake & related characters blog. Not that it was perfect back then. Dixon had a lot of bad writing habits, and he definitely dominated the 90s Bat-Family (he's also an awful person I hear), but characterization had a lot more consistency that was enough for me to quite enjoy it.
Nowadays Batman is...to be honest I don't know what.
Tim is a bland character, most writers just project on. Which he was meant to be relatable, but he still had a specified personality that really worked. Tim wasn't a self-insert (People misunderstand what that means), just written to be extremely relatable to a lot of children. You used to be able to define him in a mostly consistent way. (Didn't stop Dixon from using his comics to impart some ol' projection sometimes. But it didn't always infect the entire character.)
Dick is a sitcom character who acts as everyone's fictional boyfriend nowadays.
Jason I've lost track of, but last time I saw him, he was treated like a silly anti-hero who's had their entire backstory retconned. And they felt very neutered. (Jason's a lot like my opinion on Damian. One good story, and a bunch of inconsistent character breaking shit since.)
Damian really depends on the writer so I couldn't tell you. I remember he was infantilized a lot, and now he's...I can't even tell really. Williamson treats his character extremely strangely. He gets some things right, it isn't as bad as it used to be, but he also clearly doesn't understand the character in a lot of other ways.
Batgirls I can combine into one thing, which is depressing, they're all just...quirky girls. Barbara just less so. (Their Batgirls series was cancelled last I saw and I haven't seen anything since.) Steph gets this the worst. She is unrecognizable. I guess with Cass they think as long as she doesn't talk a lot it's fine--She was quirky in her own way, but...not the way they write her now.
To me they're all horrible. Inconsistent, bland stories if not outright terrible, don't recognize them anymore.
But it's also been like this for well over a decade, like 15 years now maybe. For Tim even longer since Didio wanted DC Comics to be super dark, and besides one writer, he was totally different to me. Can hardly consider it the same character besides some minor things--also depending on the writer.
All these characters had their time as great characters. Bruce, Dick, and Tim especially (I don't know as much about Barbara, and know they de-aged her to date Dick, which is weird. But I think she was all right beside that? I'm not gonna claim to know a lot about her). Nice periods of consistency and good stories. Iconic stuff.
So when I say "I think they're a terrible character", it typically means "As they are now".
I am not a DC Comics fan. As i hate what they currently put out.
What made me start a blog was my love for DC Comics that mostly came out YEARS before I was born. It's odd, I realize that, it's just how it is for me.
