You’re in the mood for wine tonight. But no matter how many times you try buying grapes and stomping on them in your bathtub, not a single drop of pinot noir has been produced. Lucky for you - and your stained socks - there are plenty of restaurants, wine bars, and wineries in Los Angeles where you can order bottles (or cases) for delivery or pick-up.

The newest winery in LA - and one of only two in the city - Chinatown’s Angeleno Wine Company is offering free delivery during quarantine. They’ve got a limited selection, but all five of the bottles they’ve got in stock are $30 or less, including our favorite, the Bike Path, an unfiltered, bright grenache/tempranillo blend. Bar & Garden $$$$ 6142 Washington Blvd

Culver City wine shop Bar & Garden specializes in low-intervention skin contact wines. Most of their selection are bottles from small-production European wineries, and they’re happy to help you put together an order if you’re not sure what you’re looking for. $10 delivery within LA - order via their website - or pick-up in-store.

Bar Avalon $ $ $ $ American , Mediterranean in Echo Park $$$$ 2112 W Sunset Blvd 8.2 /10

Bar Avalon and their next-door wine shop Eve have converted to Bodega Avalon during quarantine. And in addition to a bunch of grocery essentials, they’ve got walls of wine, too. There are some high-end grand cru options from France (and many other French bottles), along plenty of Californian, Chilean, Italian, and Northern and Eastern European options. They’ve also got an extensive list of sub-$20 bottles. Free limited local delivery (on orders of four or more bottles), or curbside pick-up.

One of LA’s original natural wine-focused spots, Domaine is a West Hollywood shop with a massive selection of biodynamic wines from Chile, Australia, and Europe (and California, too). Just call them, give them an idea of what wines you usually drink and how much you’re looking to spend, and they’ll put together something you’ll like. Dudley Market $ $ $ $ American , Seafood in Venice $$$$ 9 Dudley Ave 8.5 /10

Dudley Market is by no means a wine shop, but this tremendous neighborhood seafood restaurant in Venice has you covered during quarantine for wine-related needs. They’ve got a whole variety of natural wine options, including bottles from the excellent Tresomm, a Valle de Guadalupe vineyard run by two of Dudley’s owners. Whatever you get, pair it with some of the fresh-caught fish they also serve. Free local delivery, or pick-up in-store - order via their website.

Esters Wine Shop & Bar $ $ $ $ American , Wine Bar in Santa Monica $$$$ 1314 7th St. 8.0 /10

Whatever you’re looking for, chances are, Esters has it. This Santa Monica wine bar has a 28-page list that organizes bottles by taste, from “Light & Bright” to “Minerals! Texture!” and “Fruit Comes First.” They’ve also got an impressive cellar, with multiple vintages of many different wines. Order through their website for curbside pick-up or free local delivery (minimum $100, within five miles), app delivery also available.

Jakob Layman Garcons De Cafe $ $ $ $ Wine Bar in Downtown LA $$$$ 541 S Spring St Not

Garcons De Cafe is a tiny French wine bar in Downtown LA’s Spring Street Arcade. And when we say French, we mean French. They have hundreds of different bottles from regions you’re used to seeing - Bordeaux, Beaujolais, Provence - but also a bunch you probably haven’t heard of, like Bandol, Saint-Joseph, and Saumur. Order through their website for pick-up or delivery (free over $150).

Helen's Wines - Fairfax $$$$ 412 N Fairfax Ave

You probably know that Helen’s, the wine shop in the back of both Jon & Vinny’s locations, has an incredible selection of wine. You may not know how great their website is for finding something you like. In addition to the usual categories like biodynamic or traditional method, you can sort by pairings, from wines for spicy foods and pizza to the best bottles for brunch or taking a bath. Local delivery and in-store pick-up via apps or their website, also shipping nationally.

Holcomb $ $ $ $ Bar in Highland Park $$$$ 5535 York Blvd

Holcomb had only been open in Highland Park for a few months before quarantine hit, but the wine bar quickly adapted and is offering a bunch of great, hard-to-find wines for pick-up or delivery. They’ve also got cheese, salami, and conserva to go with your wine. Order through their website for daily pick-up.

Kismet $ $ $ $ Mediterranean , Middle Eastern in Los Feliz $$$$ 4648 Hollywood Blvd 8.4 /10

Kismet, the upscale Mediterranean restaurant in Los Feliz, is known for having one of the best wine selections in the city, and even though the restaurant’s closed, their cellar isn’t. They’ve got individual bottles for sale, or you can let the experts do the work for you with one of their curated “Kae’s Faves” combos, featuring wines selected by their sommelier. There’s a level of trust involved here, since you don’t know what you’re getting, but fortunately, this place is good enough that we’re willing to fly blind. Order through their website for pick-up - app delivery also available.

Lincoln Fine Wines $$$$ 727 Lincoln Blvd.

Venice’s Lincoln Fine Wines has great options for literally any price range, from super-drinkable Spanish reds under $10, to four-figure champagnes we’d probably only buy to celebrate a COVID vaccine. And if you have no idea what you want, just email them with some ideas and a price range and they’ll put together some bottles. Order via their website for curbside pick-up or local delivery.

Lou Wine Shop $$$$ 1911 Hillhurst Ave

If you don’t live in Los Feliz (or aren’t really into wine), then you probably haven’t heard of Lou Wine Shop. But once you order from them, you’ll know you’ve been missing out. This strip-mall spot specializes in “natural and unusual wines,” including a bunch of lesser-known, biodynamic Eastern European options. If you call, you’ll probably talk to Lou himself, and he can recommend a bottle for whatever reason you’re buying wine. Order on their website, or pick-up in-store.

Psychic Wines $$$$ 2825 Bellevue Ave

Another Silver Lake wine shop, Psychic specializes in low-intervention natural wines. There’s a high likelihood that you won’t recognize a single bottle in the shop, since they source from tiny vineyards randing from Mendocino to Liguria. They’ve also got a great selection of conservas to go with whatever you pick. Curbside pick-up and app delivery available.

Severance $$$$ 7274 Melrose Ave

West Hollywood spot Severance is another wine bar offering their stock for pick-up during quarantine. In addition to traditional bottles a la carte, they’re also hosting virtual events paired with six-packs of their wine - like a virtual tour of Paso Robles wineries, with six bottles from the Central Coast. Free local delivery (within 10 miles) on orders over $75, or in-store pick-up available via their website.

SIlverlake Wine is a full-on Eastside institution, open on Glendale Blvd. in the heart of Silver Lake since 2003. They’ve got every kind of varietal you could name, plus a few you’ve probably never heard of. Call them ahead of time, and they’ll be able to put together whatever you need - just give them an idea of what you like and what you want to spend, and they’ll tell you whether to get a gewürztraminer or a gruner. They’ve also got locations in Highland Park and the Arts District. App delivery, or pick-up in-store.

Alicia Cho Tabula Rasa $ $ $ $ Thai Town $$$$ 5125 Hollywood Blvd

Tabula Rasa, the great East Hollywood wine bar, is offering a huge selection of their bottles at prices below retail. Their list is largely natural and low-intervention, but they’ve got enough choices that you’ll be happy no matter what you normally drink. Order via their website for pick-up or free local delivery (or $5 “semi-local” delivery).

Another spot that opened just before quarantine and had to quickly adapt, Tilda is a great local wine bar in Echo Park. All their wines are natural and come from California (including a few from LA), so you’re doubly supporting local businesses. Lots of tinned fish and other snacks are also available. A great neighborhood wine bar, Venice Beach Wines on Rose Ave. is a convenient spot for your next weeknight wine-related emergency. They’ve got a whole bunch of affordable options for white, red, orange, rose, and bubbly, so it’s ideal for picking up a quick bottle when you don’t feel like dealing with any Lincoln Whole Foods-related nightmares. Call (310) 606-2529 for curbside pick-up, or delivery available via apps.

Vinovore $$$$ 616 N Hoover St

A great Virgil Village shop, Vinovore has a wide selection of bottles from women winemakers across the world. Every bottle comes with a card that’ll tell you about the wine you’re drinking, whether it’s a note about Sandy and Tatiana, two sisters making moschofilero in Greece, or a Los Alamos wine that’s “exciting and different, like a weird party.” Plus, most bottles are under $50. They’ve got pick-up and local delivery through their website, or app delivery also available.

Wally's Beverly Hills $ $ $ $ Wine Bar in Beverly Hills $$$$ 447 N. Canon Drive 7.3 /10

Walking into Wally’s in Beverly Hills (or Santa Monica) is like walking into LeBron James’s wine cellar (we assume - we’ve unfortunately never been). The walls are lined with floor-to-ceiling bottles, and the entire place is chilled to cellar temperature. They’ve got some of the highest-rated wines in the world at all different prices, and a section for 95+-scoring wines under $100. App delivery available, along with in-store pickup, free local delivery, and free nationwide shipping (on orders over $99) via their website.

Wine House $$$$ 2311 Cotner Ave

We’re not sure there’s a bigger wine store in LA than Wine House, the West LA staple with more than 6,000 different options. So they have, quite literally, anything you could possibly want, from obscure Hungarian, Lebanese, and Israeli options, to 200 different kinds of grand cru. Curbside pick-up, plus some delivery and shipping options available on their website.
