Hi Dyl I’m not much of a drinker but I’m going to a housewarming this weekend and thought I might gift some booze to the new owners but I have no idea what’s good! Can you recommend something good but not too expensive?
Hmmm. Well I’m not sure what they like to drink but….
My go to is Makers Mark bourbon or I like Grey Goose vodka which are sort of middle of the road!
I like Patron tequila but I think it’s a bit more expensive.
My favorite wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon or a rosé and there are several good options at the grocery store ha.
Idk why my emoji is so big and I can’t get rid of it! 😂😂😂💚💚💚

Pine Derby
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of…

thirsty under $30
Usually I like to educate people about styles and grapes you can then go find on your own, since finding a specific bottle can be an issue depending on what your local wine store happens to have. But lately I had a bunch of good reds under $30, which can be hard to find. And in that spirit, I threw in some whites under $30 as well.

Château Julia
Château Julia
Haut-Medoc
Bordeaux, France
2018
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot
Château Julia is not like other wines. The winemaker decided – against the trend in Médoc, where there is a preference for Cabernets – to make wines predominantly of Merlot. This means a Bordeaux that is more plum and cherry driven with less tannins, yum.
Sophie employs traditional, small-scale winemaking methods: the grapes are sorted on the vine, picked by hand and the wine produced plot by plot to get the very best from the vines. The grapes for this red are grown on a mixture of clay and limestone, harvested by hand and then aged for 12 months in oak barrels.
Her two vineyards have been in her family for four generations. Unlike her forebearers who sent their grapes to a wine-making cooperative, Sophie has chosen to make her own wines, under her own name, at Château Julia - Julia is a contract of her children's first names: Julie and Lucas.
Expressive, fruity, full bodied red, powerful yet elegant. Medium tannins and high acidity.
Tasting notes: dark fruits, blackberry, cassis, violets, chocolate
Pairing: beef, lamb, game

Life is too short to drink bad wines 🍷
The best day is Winesday 🍇
1982 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc)
I've opened this 42 years old bottle last weekend. The cork, unfortunately broke in pieces. Nevertheless, after decantation, the robe was bright and medium garnet with a Little browning at rim. The nose had a lot of concentration with ripe black fruits, pencil shavings and a mineral structure while the palate was fresh with dried fruit, tobacco, leather licorice, dried ginger, mintiness, spice and smooth tannins with a long silky finish. Delightfully mature with gentle softness, definitely worth the wait.
Alongside Ornellaia, Sassicaia ( meaning "the stony place”) , was one of the first “Super Tuscans”, those great wines made mostly from French grape varieties, but crafted very differently from their French counterparts.

2001 Château Latour
Don't you dare put your paws on my 2001 Latour. This guy is still opening after 20 years but some QUALITY stuff. Cassis and blackberries on the nose with leather, tobacco, and pencil shavings. Redder fruit on the palate than I would have expected with cassis and blackberries (of course), velvet, and tobacco.
4/5 bones

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
13% abv
