WAIT I HAVE A QUESTION this is for scientific research How did you come up with your ocs names ? people tend to have very different methods for this so i wanted to know ^_^

I name my characters a couple of different ways, actually. I either just ask people, take names from existing characters from stuff I like, or base the name off of something about them, sometimes making a (bad) pun out of it. Sometimes a random name just comes to mind, and I can't think of anything better so I stick with it.

My thought process for my splatoons under cut i felt like listing all of it

Chamelo Fláje is a chameleon tilefish. His full name is supposed to be a stretch of a pun on “Camouflage.” His first name sounds like “Camilo” but made to look like “Chameleon.” He used to just be a chameleon before Splatoon happened, so that's why there's the camouflage pun. Chameleon tilefish in the real don't really use their colors for camouflage, more to warn predators and stuff. Sort of off topic but I like to talk about fish lol

Asker used to be an Addison from Deltarune, one that did really shitty online quiz advertisements and...like..quizzes .ask questions I guess.... Their last name, Scalefin, is taken from part of one of the names their species (Lyretail anthias) is called.

Diesel's first name is because Diesel came to mind and I literally couldn't think of anything else and I OHHHHHHH I know why I thought of it now i was obsessed with the crude oil video and i . associated it with chamelo . Anyways his last name, Fintasma, is because he's a ghost shark (not an actual shark, just a cartilaginous fish, also known as a chimaera) ... and then I tried to think of something to do with the word "phantom" because ghost. Then I thought of Touhou game Phantasmagoria of Flower View/Dim. Dream and phantom turned into phantasmagoria, which turned into phantasma, which turned into Fintasma. Fish pun 👍

Valerie Adorabilufu because Valerie just reminded me of Valentines day and that's pretty pink and she's got pink. Adorabilufu because unofficial scientific name for the flapjack octopus is opisthoteuthis adorabilis, and the old english word for love, which is “lufu.” So like. Her last name is "adorable love" LOL

For Sharlotte Licha, she's a shark, Charlotte -> Sharlotte, "Shar-" like Shark. Licha because species (Dalatias licha)

Hecatia Ferox because she's partially based off of Hecatia Lapislazuli from Touhou. Ferox because of her species (Alepisaurus ferox) and "ferox" means something like ferocious, which she is.

Merlyn Niji-kawa's name is taken from yet another Touhou, Merlin Prismriver. Her last name is sometimes translated as "niji-kawa," which means "rainbow river." And Merlyn is a rose-veiled fairy wrasse, a very colorful fish! Also Merlin plays the trumpet, Merlyn does too, I couldn't resist.

Chloe Khroma, she's a blue-green chromis, khroma is the greek origin word for "chrome."

Elia Aulucara, Elia just came from a name someone suggested. Her last name is a butchering of Aulonocara, the peacock cichlid species genus name.
