Ikrrr the overhead shot definitely highlighted the loneliness but that closup shot of buck saying hi honey did show him smiling so I'm highly confused on how to interpret this scene. Was it sad smile ? Any pointers?
You know, I struggled with this one too and I think it was the delivery because yeah, Oliver had that little smile and his voice didn't really sound bitter or sad or anything. But the framing of the shot and how blank and empty it looked (almost sterile with all the white even the pale colors Taylor was in and Buck standing out in vivid color) in juxtaposition to things like Athena going and hugging May, and Eddie going home to a full house (even if he would rather it be...less full) was really startling. Also, Buck's whole loft has always felt so big and empty and devoid of personality (empty counters, a bike we've never seen him ride or even speak of riding in one of his infodumps or anything, nothing around the bed etc) while he always looks so at home in Eddie's house which is brimming with life. I think it was definitely meant to highlight Buck's loneliness especially in context with the rest of the scenes, and previous episodes that have highlighted how lonely Buck is when he's in that apartment by himself, but for me the delivery was a touch out of sync with the framing. I was worried this b*ckt*ylor storyline would drag out forever but they are not being subtle with the set up here that she's not what Buck is looking for in a partner and I cannot wait for that storyline to be over. they never should have brought her back after she was so awful her first episode and put so many people at risk and pretending like Buck would want anything to do with her after that, and then again after she reamed him out for things the audience was JUST shown were his trauma responses has been deeply frustrating.
One down, one to go and I feel like we (fingers crossed) won't see much of her before the end.
