Day 14: Can't Go Home (Sky)

He’d noticed it in growing increments over his adventure. But everything was difficult during his adventure. Everything hurt; he was always exhausted. It hardly meant anything.

Harder to ignore after, during regular trips up to Skyloft for supplies, visits.

This adventure marks the largest stretch of time he’s been away from home. Ever.

Sky steps through the portal, and this time he can’t ignore it. Amid gasps and complaints – “Brrrr!” – “By Farore the air here is thin.” – “How high are we?” – familiar bands wrap around his lungs and squeeze.

“Sky?” Four, always so quick to notice these things. Sky wheezes. Can't manage anything more, caught in the throes of one of the worst breathing attacks he's had in a very long time. Tears spring to his eyes, blurring the worry Sky hears as Four exclaims. “Where’s his potion? Hurry!”

The tears aren’t fear or the heaving effort of every exhale. The tears are for buildings and people all around. The tears are for the burning realization that even if he survives his most recent journey, this might be the last time he sees home.
