The Lost Apothecary One book that intrigued me in a way, which is unexplainable. The way women help women through medicines; deadly and life saving, to bring harmony in each other’s life. 99 Red Balloons Don’t take sweets from strangers or don’t talk to them is what we all have heard growing up but this book makes sure that you live through that worst nightmare page by page. The Interpretation of Murder by Jed Rubenfeld A book review after a long time because this book took time to read as I had to grasp history along with psychological concepts and fiction. Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung are on a ride here to psychologicallly catch a killer along with a fictional doctor. But it leads you to the darkest corners of human mind and society. Who is who? When is what? Everything is in spirals. A complicated book but could have been shorter with less situational explanations of unrelated events. Black Eyes Susans With past and present interwoven, this book sends chills down your spine with brutal crime description and might want to hate these flowers; but I don’t! The macabre in the plot is fully established and the thrill is nerve wrecking. Every chapter has a different story and you will end up suspecting a couple of few main and side characters as well. But the ending twist and the climax is surely to blow you up amd give you a much needed book hangover. @juliaheaberlin has done an awesome job. 11 Missed Calls by Elisabeth Carpenter I have been recently exploring a lot of unknowm authors, at least to me, in the psychological thriller genre and here is when I found out about Elisabeth Carpenter and her delving into this genre. This is my first book by her and the second one is lined up to be read soon. The book has an amazing twist, you don’t know whom to suspect and whom to not. The situations in the plot have been constructed in a bizarre yet brilliant way to confuse the readers. You’ll end up questioning every character, to be honest. The title of the book comes from one single line in the book if you play close attention. But I felt the ending could have been a bit more intriguing. Nevertheless, the book is worth the time. Lazarus The meaning of Lazarus in Hebrew generally means that “God as helped”. In layman’s language, Lazarus refers to someone who has miraculously recovered or was on the verge of death and suddenly recovered. The title of the book suits it amazingly. The story hits you psychologically and is extremely well written. The plot has a good climax but the conclusion also hits you hard. How well can someone make another person suffer by just getting into their minds in the most impossible ways, this book also portrays that. The Taxidermist’s Daughter An eerie book calls for a midnight review. This book brilliantly starts like a horror or witchy book makinh you believe throughout that unnatural forces are at work. But once you reach the end, the climax just leaves you gawking. Kate Mosse, as always, has done a perfect job in keeping readers hooked and making them delusional of the facts. The guessing game continues till the very end. The setting and storytelling is perfect to be honest. A haunting thriller turning into something else altogether. Bring Me Back by @baparisauthor The ending of this book literally had my brain blown into thousand pieces. The Killer Inside As readers, we try assuming who is the criminal from the very beginning. From the very beginning, this book gives you away a grey character, but at the end, grey is the new white and white is the new black. You get my hint? What you read and think, may not be what is the outcome. What seems, may not be true at all. The Retreat @sarahpearseauthor is one of those rare authors whose two books I finished within just 3 days. The Retreat is a sequel to The Sanatorium, but with a completey different storyline. With unexpected twists and turns, the book gave me chills at one time. Detective Elin is at her best game here and the climax is totally unthinkable. The best part about the book and the author herself is that there are no unnecessary scenario explanations running 4 pages. She restricts the explanation, which is very wise, to intrigue readers.
