Capitalism and “American individualism” really got people out here thinking that they’re entitled to just hoard wealth and resources because their corporate controlled government in power says it’s okay and encourages it and bails them out when they can’t afford it for a min and then have the gall to get mad when others criticize them for fucking hoarding their wealth and resources during a pandemic. Like yeah asshole you should be forced to give away your housing when there’s homeless people tough shit you fucking brain-addled sociopath

On courage and COVID-19
April 5, 2020: contemplations and considerations for current situations.
I find it hard to believe sometimes that people don’t have more advanced and secretive desires
What do you mean?
You crave only to study more and to get better grades to understand comp sci and graph theory better?
Do you realize how big the world is and how vast the challenges are that might await us, do you not secretly crave for something more animalistic and insane?
I want to disappear into the forest
I want to escape society
I want to become a genderless entity of time and space
You don’t want something more?
Isn’t it certainly time to consider your deepest desires?
When the gym is closed, the schools are closed, even the grocery stores are on lockdown,
Isn’t it time to find the things that really motivate you every day?
I know for me that certainly doesn’t consist only of Tarantino and Netflix and drinking and studying. In one ear, out the other.
It’s time
To reconsider
It can definitely be made of alcohol, friends, movies, pop culture, food, rest. Reading and drawing and learning. But … not all of it?
It
What is it?
Life
The meaning of?
I’m not sure
Sex, pleasure, cuddling, friendship, relationships, conversation, exploration
What will life be like, after it’s over?
“Blown over”
This sort of thing doesn’t just blow over, it hurts us long-term
It persists and remains
Through pain and full morgues
A mistrust in public busses and your own reusable containers
And in essence,
The loss of trust in others
Breaking down of certain social bonds of mutual respect between strangers
In other ways, a build up of other bonds
Singing with strangers on balconies at 7
For the healthcare workers
Team work
Doing your part
Recognizing scarcity
Supporting local businesses
More time with family
Less time with friends, more desire for connection,
Leading to baby booms or we all stay in our houses as we are now once it’s over?
I just don’t know
I just don’t know and it’s terrifying
To not understand your near future
Will I be able to find a job?
More accurately, my fear is: not finding something to occupy myself with
I can’t sit in on gender studies and psychology lectures since they’re all online
My friends are gone
My family seems so far away
Home is far away
I just don’t know
I do still know
Some things
I know my values
I know my philosophies of life
I know that in my career I think I will have to choose between enjoyment in my job, preservation of my philosophies, or the impact i want to have on the world
But even then
The concept of a career
I don’t know if I want that
A job, one job, I have for my entire life? I’d have a specialty, sure. A certain niche, a broad niche. Environment, or ecology, or health care systems, or health care distribution.
What can I possibly do?
I feel so lost
It feels so far away
And yet I’m 20
That feels old
I have one wrinkle on my forehead that won’t go away
But i feel as if i’m still making up for lost time in my youth during sickness and prudency
——-
The same day, a while later
Happiness can be a product of your own actions
You are responsible for your own happiness
You can make your own happiness
You can choose to accept the happiness and acknowledge it and bask in it
Bliss
The meaning of life
Might be
Sunbathing on a football field in early April with a boy, which, it turns out, you really care for, Listening to music and catching him catch you looking at him
The meaning of life
Might be calling your mom while you walk in the warm air
You talk about bread recipes and casserole recipes and easy stuff but it just feels right
The meaning of life,
Happiness,
Might be
Physical exhaustion that you’ve earned and a warm bowl of that casserole from your childhood
(Covered in ketchup, remember?)
A hot shower and clean shorts; the dishes I’ve done and the recycling having been emptied
Satisfaction
Peace
Connection
Simple
I will only truly be happy when….
…. I let myself be.
—-
To take with you moving forward:
I can create my own happiness
I have commitments to no one but myself
Time will always continue to pass

Lesson 15, Task 1: Where do I Live?
Tumblr media
Demographics are the many different characteristics of the population of a community, conveyed statistically, in order to help governments understand how to assist in it functioning efficiently. Although, there are other factors that are important to residents, as well. Community centres help bring citizens together and offer programs to integrate newcomers, community parks offer space for neighbourhood residents to interact with and meet others and are a place to hold events and take part in recreational activities, close public transit helps inhabitants get to and from work easily and of course, an overall beautiful community is very desirable. However, demographic data is most important to a community because it assists governments and societies in preparing to deal with the issues and difficulties of population growth, aging, ethnicity, migration and more inside the community. The statistics and expectations brought about from demographic studies can demonstrate the need for sufficient school systems, help discover what may be essential for assistance in seniors and cultivate practical healthcare systems for the area. When trying to discover how any community presently functions and has functioned in the past, one needs to look at the different demographic profiles of that area, the issues that may face the community, and what the region’s leaders are doing to fix the issues that face that particular area, presently and in the future.
Tumblr media
For one thing, to fully understand the working of a community, one must know the simple population demographics in terms of sex, age and ethnicity. Toronto is a very large and diverse city, therefore the population is enormous. Toronto’s population, in terms of age and sex has changed quite drastically over the last fifteen years and the projected population change is assumed to be fairly massive as well. The ratio of male to female citizens shows that there are more males than females for every 5 year age group up to the 20-24 age group, yet, beyond that, Toronto has always held less males for every female in age groups starting at 25. The pattern in ratio remains, showing progressively less males than females and continues to decline with age, with a sharp drop after age 85. In terms of the population’s age, it is shown that for the first time, the presence of people over the age of 65 in Toronto is greater than the presence of people aged 15 years or younger. Surprisingly, people age 85 and older are those who have the largest growth rate over any other age group in recent years, followed by the ‘baby boom’ generation, born between 1946 and 1961 In terms of projected ethnic diversity in Toronto. In terms of ethnicity, almost half of the population identifies as a visible minority. The top three minority groups in the city are South Asian, Chinese and African American. Aside from that, the highest reported ethnic origin in within Toronto in past years was Canadian, but it has now moved to third place in reported ethnic origin, with Chinese in close second. Because of this vast array of ethnic origins, it is clear that Toronto has always has a very large migration rate. Compared to the rest of Ontario, more than half of the immigrants have come to the city to live prosperous lives. Obviously, Toronto showcases a huge variety of sex, age and ethnic diversities and illustrates that migration is continuing to grow every year. The predictions pertaining to population growth as a whole for the city seem to be very bright for the future, as well.
Tumblr media
Moreover, comprehending how to make a community the most effective and rewarding place to live, involves being able to decipher the issues that the area faces. In Toronto’s case, citizens face a myriad of problems which need to be addressed and resolved. Firstly, since there are so many new immigrants to Toronto, political parties must start better educating themselves and scrutinizing the way they present their ideas. Their messages must be pertinent to the newcomers’ unique life experiences and morals, since the beliefs of newer Canadians may differ quite largely from those who have lived in Canada for generations. Another issue facing Toronto is the fact that the city’s recent college graduates are not easily finding jobs in their studied fields. This is largely due to the fact that the number of seniors in Toronto is the highest it has ever been and more are continuing to work much past the age of retirement, meaning increasingly less job openings for young people. Unfortunately, Toronto’s graduates are mostly finding temporary, contract or part-time jobs with little stability, and no benefits. Clearly, education is still an important asset for Toronto’s youth, but it can no longer offer any assurances for a successful future. In addition, life in Toronto - housing, transit, child care and healthy food - is getting progressively more expensive every day and necessities have become practically out of reach for people living on low wages and income supports. Furthermore, even though Canada’s public health care system is one of the most liberal in the world, it is extremely expensive to uphold. Amazingly, Toronto has achieved progressively better healthcare, which has also led to many of the older citizens living longer, but this has put a strain on the healthcare system in Ontario. It now takes a very long time to get diagnostic tests done for routine issues, and this results in problems being overlooked. The only way to fix these issues is if Toronto’s city council takes a serious look at its downfalls and creates worthwhile solutions to these complications.
Tumblr media
Overall, to repair the community’s issues, Toronto leaders have needed to make a variety of changes. It is clear that not all of their ideas functioned as they had hoped and there are still many more problems facing they city that to be fixed. In 2010 the City of Toronto launched a program called the Toronto Newcomer Initiative to improve the lives of recent immigrants and increase access to education and skills training programs for the immigrants to achieve better paying jobs, which equates to less poverty. An initiative has formed which includes the ‘Newcomer Leadership Table’, Local Immigration Partnerships and Strategic Pillars, whose ideas are to nurture and support newcomers, give them free access to knowledge and skills, support shared leadership and promote dignity, equity and fairness to them. In regards to the lack of jobs for young graduates, a program called TO Prosperity has been created. This program will revise their plans, which include 20 recommendations, every four years. One of the most important recommendations included in their plans, concerns the creation of new employment opportunities for low-income groups and improving the overall quality of jobs. The group has plans to produce paths for low-income youth to find careers, determine a better living wage standard across Toronto, support the provincial effort to reinforce employment standards, and develop a job quality assessment tool to apply to city and contractor jobs. Although it will take some time to make all of these proposed changes, it seems that Toronto is on the right path to forming more plentiful careers. As for the community’s costly nature, Toronto holds many different grants to assist with expenses of different kinds. These grants range from assistance with community capacity, equitable access, general well-being, diversity, civic participation and civic cohesion to giving on-going support for Toronto’s very necessary not-for-profit community organizations that apply to the changing needs of the community. On top of that, there are grants to assist with health and safety funding and with children whose parents cannot afford to get the proper amount of nutrition in their diets. Comparatively, the expense of Toronto’s health care system has not been taken care of appropriately. Clearly, the government needs to agree on the basic values that should be preserved, reshape important policies and determine ways to make physician’s services more cost-effective for everyone.
In conclusion, demographic data shows the government profiles of an area, in terms of age, sex, ethnicity and migration, the issues that may face the community, and what the region’s leaders can do to remedy any issues that face that community. These profiles and projections are imminent, and are the key to making every community a better, more productive place to live. It is important to make a neighborhood enjoyable for the residents and help the residents appreciate what they have around them, in terms of proper regulations, affordability, assistant programs, public transit and a beautiful place to live.
Be sure to take a look into MY neighbourhood!

""Where can I find affordable health insurance in Tucson, AZ?""
Anyone have any suggestions on inexpensive healthcare. I am disabled and we survive on my wife's income. Our current health insurance premiums are $1150.00 per month (it goes up about $150 per year). We are at our breaking point because we are soon going to have to decide what to cut from our budget (the house, food or health insurance). Because I am disabled no one will insure me. The insurance we have now we had before I became disabled so they can't kick me out. I'm afraid that if we don't have insurance something could happen to me, my wife or kids that would require a hospital visit and could run in the thousands or tens of thousands. I don't want to have to go bankrupt because I couldn't afford to have coverage. I had a stay in the hospital two years ago and the total bill was $60,000.00. the insurance covered all but $3000.00. ""I have a question about an accident, insurance, an estimate and payment?""
Hello. I recently got rear-ended and had an estimate done for $1800 dollars and somebody told me they would never give me that much for my car. I looked up the Kelley Blue Book and a private party price would be about $750 and that's how much they would give me and THEY take the car. Is this right? I might do it $750 and I keep the car! I put a new clutch in it, new front brake system, new exhaust, I love the car, so it's worth much more to me.....I'm just wondering what the law is on it and what I might be able to do to maximize my payout. If I'm unhappy with their offer can I take them to small claims and win? I just can't believe that I was just sitting at a stoplight and BOOM my car's wrecked and since I'm poor I can't get it fixed ya know? Thank you for your time......""

Can car insurance companies discover speed camera tickets?
Long story short: Do I need to tell the car insurance companies about speed camera tickets I received? I read that lying to car insurance companies is a good way to get your insurance canceled, or claim denied. I know that they check what you say on the application. If these were regular speeding tickets, I would have no question that they need to be reported, because it's on my record. But these are from a speed camera. The citation says it cannot be used to increase my car insurance rates, and that it will not add points to my record. All my friends say they don't report it. Despite that, Travelers said these do count, and denied providing a quote because I have had three speed camera tickets in the past three years. Is this information even present on my driver's record? Is this something they can verify? More importantly, could they deny a claim I make for failing to tell them about these tickets?""

Car insurance problems?!?
So I've had my license since I was 18 and now I'm 21, my boyfriend has always just let me use vehicles that he would give me that are registered in his name and on his insurance and I already know someone is going to point out its a bad idea I don't have my own vehicle, we have been together 5 years and haven't had a problem, but recently when I was driving my truck, registered and insured by him, some senile old woman pulled out around 8 feet in front of me and stopped right in the middle of the road so her whole car was right in my lane and the back end of her car was still sort of on the road she was pulling out of, I slammed on my breaks and when I realized I wasn't stopping I turned my wheel as hard as I could so I didn't hit her and I ended up just catching the end of her car and totalled mine by hitting the stop sign and about 4 trees on the road she was coming out of because of the fact that I was driving my boyfriend's insured vehicle and me and him live together, his insurance automatically added me to his policy which caused it to sky rocket from $190/mo. to over $400/mo. I was wondering if he should try to switch companies, or just keep me on his insurance whether he switches or not ?""

I would really like to have the ability to go to the doctor when I need. But, I can't seem to see the necessity of having health insurance. Being it so expensive, and that I so rarely need to seek medical attention. On the other hand, the clinic in town will not schedule appointments for anyone without insurance. I would like to be more concious about my physiological self with the advice of a medical practitioner. But, not at the cost of hundreds of dollars a month, which I can't afford. Its just not in the cards. HELP!""

Best car & car insurance for a 20 year old?
I'm 20 years old and just started having driving lessons. I'm thinking of buying a car but have no idea about car insurance. I know it would be higher for 17-19 year olds but do I qualify as a young driver if I'm 20 even though it's a first car and just starting as a driver? I love Volkswagen Beetles but want a car on which the insurance won't be high. Apparently the insurance is cheaper on classic cars...? I'm a girl and live in Greater (West) London. I don't know what it depends on and what car I should go for without having to pay a fortune. If you could help me out that would be great Thanks!!! :)

False County Court Claim Against Me on My Car Insurance?
Someone has put a claim in against me for damages, for an accident I know nothing about. It is from early 2010 and has been going on since then. I have been contesting it on the grounds I have not been involved in an incident, however the third party solicitors have issued County Court proceedings against me. My insurance company are saying they are putting in a defence and have provided a barrister. I am really annoyed with this as I know I haven't been in an accident. I could understand if maybe they were claiming I clipped them and I had done it without realising but they are claiming for an accident which I have no knowledge of! I have attended the Magistrate's Court hearing and although I pleaded not guilty I have been found guilty on the grounds that for the time and date of the accident I have no alibi, witness or other evidence to support my whereabouts. The other party has an independent witness who works for the same company and alleges she could recognise my car but not me as a driver. Mag court fined me and gave me 6 points on my licence. I am not working (and not in receipt of any benefits) and this CC claim amounts to 5k! How would I pay a sum like this??? Or would my insurance company pay out if I was found to be at fault ??? Please help! Where do I stand on this? Any help appreciated. Thanks!""

A rant/essay from a Facebook friend. (LONG post ahead)
Since the depression, every generation has had to work more and more to get by. In the 50's and early 60's, a family could easily survive on a single income. By the 70's it was almost standard that if you weren't in the higher tax brackets, both parents had to work. By the 80's (because of the 'new' financial difficulties of the late 70's, and people relying more and more on credit), most people had debt, and two incomes barely covered it. Debt went NUTS in the 80's, mostly because capitalism was HUGE then because of Reagan. There were all these things that quickly went from a 'luxury' to a necessity, like home phone, cable, and multiple cars. By the 90's, the wage gap that sprouted in the 70's and flourished in the 80's had come to be a way of life. People had tens of thousands in debt, the population was growing faster than ever before, and people depended more and more on government assistance. The Clinton era saw tax breaks for the middle class, better less expensive healthcare, more readily available medicaid, and people were finally starting to get on their feet as a nation (Clinton left us [National debt] in the black for the first time in decades). Then Dubya happened. Or, outright stole the election, I should say. He took away most of what was helping people become self sufficient, raised taxes on the middle class, and simultaneously gave huge tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations. He was able to make it seem acceptable because of the influx of tech wealth. Cost of living grew much faster than the average wages, and he put us right back to where we were before the Clinton era in two years. He managed to destroy 8 years of progress with two years of greed plus two wars he put on an imaginary credit card in attempt to make himself a hero. Then Obama took office. What he did in his 8 years was to get us a deficit again, raise wages (as much as he could) and give us affordable healthcare. Unfortunately, because he was black (and also progressive, but mostly because he's black), republicans openly blocked him and fought him every step of the way.
Funny enough, one of the main reasons that was able to happen, is up until this past presidential election, people under 30 (millennials) didn't bother to vote. The older republicans who had been duped into believing the scare tactics from the Dubya years came out in full force, while younger progressives couldn't be bothered to vote in local elections. Starting around 2000, America had record lows of young voters, and this allowed republicans to gain a strangle hold on the government. The Tea party gained traction. A black, progressive president was new, and people are generally fearful of anything new. Because of the non-progress spurred on by Dubya and then the obstructionism of the right through the Obama administration, not only did republicans gain power, but millennials (who were finally having to live on their own) were faces with an even larger wage gap (as every generation before then has been) and took to the new format of social media to complain. STILL numbers of voters in that age group were pitifully low, but the small percentage that did vote often voted for 3rd party candidates or worse, Tea Party/republican candidates, because all they knew is they wanted change that they weren't seeing.
Then came the 2016 presidential election. Social media (created largely by baby boomers, btw) allowed them to feel more engaged with less effort. They finally started becoming more involved (though small and local elections still saw little to no rise in young voters), and they blindly glommed on to the 3rd party candidates again, who this time used the same social media platforms millennials were dependant on to spread their message of "change", without giving any solid solutions as to how to attain it. Social media also allowed conservatives, the right, and outside forces (looking at you Russia) to push a false narrative about the only major candidate that could actually enact change and continue Obama hard won achievements. Most of the "oligarchy" argument as well as the other blatant lies that were spreading around like wildfire have been proven time and again to have originated on the right.
Unfortunately, now more than ever (thanks again to social media) younger people determined that they wanted to be" different" and "anti-establishment", ironically by throwing their support behind a 30 plus year career politician. They're a generation who saw that collective online organization could affect real life change through petitions and threats... so instead of working together to improve the only progressive candidate's platform that had a chance of winning, they chose to hold the election hostage. Now, this is not speculatory, they openly did so with the "Bernie or Bust" malarkey. Bernie, having a long track record of attention whoring, helped to amp up the growing unrest, and instead of directing at the right (who got us into this mess in the first place) he falsely directed it at Hillary in attempt to be remembered for more than collecting a government paycheck and to bolster his own ego. He had zero solutions, and zero practical experience, but millennials en masse bought into his empty promises. Because of that divide, and people claiming 'political purity' by voting for Stein, writing in Sanders, or simply not voting as a protest (if not voting for Trump to "teach people people a lesson"), Trump won. The exit polls showed as much.
Trump has shown in his time so far that we're not only heading back to pre-Clinton era tax disparity, but that the wage gap will only increase, this time with fewer routes of government assistance. So, no, it wasn't baby boomers who caused it. They aren't too blame. The blame lies squarely on the shoulders of Republicans, millennials who only vote when it's "exciting" if at all, and the conservative/right/outside forces that pushed the narrative that Dems and Liberals were ineffective in achieving nationally benefitial goals. If you look back at American political history, it's been the same story over and over again. People want change (but only to benefit themselves) some vote for a candidate to achieve that change, usually the 'outraged' right. A republican wins, digs us deeper and deeper into debt, causes the cost of living to increase, and (in recent history, 80's to now) seem to TRY to get us in a war. People again want change, then some people vote, usually for a Dem, and change for the better starts happening. The original group of voters (Reps) get mad because their taxes (that they would have paid anyhow) start going to programs designed to feed, house, and give medical coverage to those in need (they like to call them moochers), and the current group (Dems) get mad because they aren't seeing change occur FAST ENOUGH. So again people start voting for change, ANY kind of change, and we end up with another republican in office, starting the whole process over again. This time it was almost different. If all the people who claimed to want progressive improvement had actually voted for the candidate that would've won (and technically DID win by thousands of votes) in a few years we would have had better wages, a less expensive housing market, and probably universal health care. Hillary ran on increasing minimum wage to $12 then increasing it incrementally over the next 4-6 years, and free college for most degrees within 2 -4 years (both of which she had a well thought out achievable plan for) Yet younger voters wanted $15 and free college NOW, and supported the guy who promised them that with no actual plan to achieve it. (I believe his actual words were 'we'll figure it out when it comes time').
Millennials aren't the first generation made to struggle. Far from it. The only reason it seems like it's so much worse than it used to be (aside from the ever increasing wage gap born of the back and forth of political parties elected by impatient voters) is that what's considered to be necessity now was luxury a decade and a half ago. People expect to have fast internet, cable (or online viewing services), newer cars (made more expensive by republicans making eco-friendly vehicles more expensive to buy and own), central heat and air, roomier/updated housing, "organic"/gluten-free/"GMO free food (that's costs 50-75% MORE than traditional food w/zero added benefits), and hell, even gourmet coffee. In 1998, if you paid $8 a DAY for a single coffee drink you did so because you were rich. Now people expect to be able to afford it. The cost of living is growing higher and higher because people just EXPECT to have things that 1)aren't really necessary (think a new car every few years, fancy pod coffee machines, all of the over priced food that's basically snake oil, freaking lipstick that's $60 a tube, etc) and 2) people who don't vote allow politicians who are actively working against them to gain or stay in office. So, yeah, baby boomers are in the same boat. A lot of them were fortunate enough to have been able to save money back during the Clinton era, but it was much harder for them then it was for their parents. The money they would've been able to live on then runs out exponentially faster today. They, too, have to go without healthcare (although thanks to the Clinton era boom and the Social Security they paid into then they have a little more to work with.
Also, if you're working 3 jobs, they're probably minimum wage, less than 30 hours a week jobs. While the job market isn't great (it also has declined due to republican tax breaks and the population growth), people can still find full time jobs that pay more. A small investment in practical/ technical education (like auto repair, forklift operation, dental assistant, etc) or even the willingness to do manual labor (cities are constantly searching for workers (even with zero experience) to lay roads, collect garbage, etc. And those are good paying full time jobs. A friend of mine, with no experience, got a job working in distribution. It's physical labor so they're still looking for workers as people don't want to do strenuous activity to get a paycheck. In less than a year, he's gotten full insurance, and went from the $12 per hour he started at to $16 per hour with time and a half for (frequently available) overtime. In Texas alone there's thousands of great paying jobs that people just ignore because it's physical labor and/or outside work. I know of at least three millennials personally who turned down full time jobs because they were tough. THAT'S where the disconnect happens between older generations and millennials. Older generations actually did the jobs millennials (who grew up in a somewhat pampered tech rich world) don't want to do. THAT'S why older generations expect millennials to 'work harder', because THEY DID. Older generations see that millennials want the pay for tougher jobs without doing the tougher job, and they (pretty rightfully) don't think they deserve it. Should minimum wage be higher? Hell yes. Should a person be able to work 30 hours a week and have all the things the generations before them worked 60-80 hours at a full time job for? No. A single full time job can (and often does) pay as much if not more than 3 part time jobs. It just takes a stronger work ethic, the willingness to actually work a harder job, and the ability to not assume you should have all the things that you could do without. I have absolutely zero sympathy for someone spending $8 for a coffee everyday, $6 for a sack of "organic" oranges, and $20 a month for each online viewing service, only to bitch that they can't save money. Keeping up with the neighbors doesn't get you where hard work and frugality will.
Another side note: Millennials tend to be a bit more gullible when it comes to snake oil fixes for things. 99% of the people I've seen pushing "essential oils" and "cleanses" to cure things are millennials. Someone I used to be friends with on here bought into the "organic/GMO free/ gluten-free" BS, paid way too much for "holistic / naturpathic medicine" (read sugar pills), "healing crystals" and also $120 eyeshadow palettes/frequently changing their hair color at $75-150 a time/$30 "vegan" body wash used to complain about it being so hard to make it every month, and -while still spending ridiculous amounts on pseudoscience and overpriced luxury beauty items- frequently asked for financial help. They seem to feel they "need" these things and that they're "saving the world" through buying expensive personal products that they think are eco-friendly that really aren't. You'd think a generation that grew up having educational resources like the Internet would be smarter, but they generally don't seem to be. It's really sad that instead of using their portal to infinite knowledge, they want information spoon fed to them in memes and sensationalistic sound bites.
Not to continue on my rant/essay but... it should also be noted that with every advancement in history comes a higher cost of living. That's just a fact of life. People were pissed when they had to pay more for a bottle of milk when pasteurization became the norm because it saved lives. People were pissed when safety standards made meat cost more. People were pissed that Internet service became more expensive when they switched to fibre technology instead of modems. Every improvement comes with cost. It's how it's been since the beginning of time, and that's without modern capitalism. You can't expect the technology of tomorrow with the expense of yesterday.
ME: True, but it seems increasingly like the rich are just hoarding their wealth, and not giving enough of it back to the people (wage increases, charity funding, etc.), not to mention that politics really isn't helping this much (seriously, the GOP's mindset seems to be 'work until the day you die' - that Georgia senator that said she opposes a livable wage is a prime example), and I'm just wondering how long until capitalism implodes due to it's own hubris.
MY FRIEND: And that's why it's so important for millennials to actually get out and vote instead of handing over a list of demands and expecting it right now. Change takes time and work, and the only thing the 1%ers and the GOP are working for is to line their own pockets. You can't dig your heels in and refuse to vote for the betterment of all Americans just because you don't get your (falsely promised) instant gratification. Plus, political change starts at the local level. Until younger voters start actually giving a damn about REAL politics instead trendy meme worthy politics, we'll stay treading water if not sinking outright.

Trump’s budget: major slashes to social programs but $1.6bn for the wall
Millions of people stand to lose Medicaid access, alongside cuts to welfare and food stamps, under a proposed budget that still has numerous hurdles to jump
Donald Trump will embrace hardline right-wing economics on Tuesday with a budget that proposes swingeing cuts to social safety net programmes while allocating $1.6bn to a border wall.
Millions of people would lose access to Medicaid, the government insurance programme for the poorest and many disabled Americans. Food stamps for people on low incomes would be cut over the next 10 years under the White House plan and the families of undocumented workers would be frozen out of key tax breaks.
We are no longer going to measure compassion by the number of programmes or the number of people on those programmes, budget director Mick Mulvaney told reporters. Were going to measure compassion and success by the number of people we help get off of those programmes to get back in charge of their own lives. Were not going to measure our success by how much money we spend but by how many people we actually help.
The Trump blueprint is unlikely to become law because it will face opposition from both moderate Republicans and Democrats worried about its social impact and from fiscal conservatives who fear it will increase the deficit.
Chuck Schumer, Democratic minority leader in the Senate, condemned the proposed cuts to Medicaid. This would pull the rug out from so many Americans who need help: those suffering from opioid and heroin addiction, people in nursing homes and their families who care for them, the elderly, the disabled, and children, he said on the Senate floor. Medicaid helps not only the poor but increasingly the middle class, as well as 1.75m veterans, Schumer added. Heres what candidate Trump said when he campaigned: Im not going to cut social security like every other Republican and Im not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid. He promised he would help take care of those suffering from opioid addiction. If it cuts Medicaid, hes breaking that promise right in half.
Economic experts were also quick to dismiss Mulvaneys claims that Trumps tax plans and budget would boost economic growth to 3%, balancing the federal budget within a decade.
Although Trump is an unconventional president, the budget shares much with the conservative orthodoxy of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. It is entitled A New Foundation for American Greatness and Mulvaney said if he had a subtitle it would be, The taxpayer first budget.

Cuts to Medicaid over the next decade exceed even the more than the $800bn reductions contained in a health bill passed by the House of Representatives earlier this month.
The president also aims to slash welfare by $274bn over a decade, including $193bn on food stamps, driving millions of people off the programme. This would be several times bigger than cuts attempted by House Republicans in the past. The number of people claiming food stamps spiked to 47m people at the height of the 2007-08 recession and had not come down as expected, still totalling 44m people, Mulvaney said, despite near full employment in the US.
Some $72bn over 10 years would come from social securitys disability insurance programme, including $50bn in savings which would be achieved by helping recipients get off the programme and find a job.
Mulvaney continued: If youre on food stamps and youre able bodied, we need you to go to work. If youre on disability insurance and youre not supposed to be, if youre not truly disabled, we need you to go back to work.
He added: Theres a dignity to work and theres a necessity to work to help the country and succeed and we need everybody to pull in the same direction.
The Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Credit would be limited to those who are authorised to work in the US. They would be required to show proof of a social security number a move that would have a negative impact on children who are US citizens but whose parents are undocumented.
I could ask you for your money I think, in good faith and good conscience, and say, Look, I need to take some of your money and give it to this family, who deserves the Child Tax Credit, but I cant do it to give the Earned Income Tax Credit, which is designed to help folks who work, to give it somebody whos in the country and working illegally. Its just not fair. Its not right when you look at it through the perspective of the people paying the taxes.
Trump would also reduce federal employee pensions and farm subsidies while keeping campaign pledges to leave core Medicare and social security benefits for the elderly untouched.
He also promised a groundbreaking proposal to provide six weeks of paid family leave to new mothers and fathers, including adoptive parents, championed by Trumps daughter, Ivanka, and costing $25bn over 10 years.
Mulvaney confirmed that the budget plan defunds Planned Parenthood, on the premise that the American Health Care Act will become law, and winds down the support for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which feeds the money to outlets such as the Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio.
The blueprint also shaves 31.4% off funding for the Environmental Protection Agency and 29.1% off that for the state department and other international programmes.
The cuts to domestic spending would be redirected to the US military, law enforcement and supporting veterans. It allocates $2.6bn to border security, including $1.6bn for the bricks and mortar construction of a wall on the Mexican border, with the remaining $1m allotted to technology and infrastructure.
But the plan a wish list to fund the Trump agenda faces numerous hurdles. The healthcare bill is likely to undergo significant changes in the Senate while a rewrite of the tax code only has a broad outline so far. It also makes assumptions about growth.

Mulvaney said Trumps package of spending cuts and tax breaks would boost the USs economys growth rate to 3% over the next decade, a considerable increase from the 1.9% forecast under current policy by the Congressional Budget Office.
The director, due to testify to the House and Senate this week, said: I think what Trumponomics is and what this budget is a part of is an effort to get to sustained 3% economic growth in this country again. I think its sad that the previous administration was willing to admit that we couldnt get better than 1.9% growth over the next 10 years … That assumes a pessimism about America, about the economy, about its people, about its culture that were simply refusing to accept. We believe that we can get to 3% growth.
But economists were skeptical of the claim. Gus Faucher, PNC Financial Services chief economist said US productivity growth had averaged 1.75% over the last 45 years and that the period between the late 1990s and early 2000s when growth topped 3% was the exception. Its asking a lot to expect the exception not the rule, said Faucher.
Marc Goldwein, head of policy at non-partisan thinktank Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget said the budgets numbers did not add up. He said Mulvaneys promise of returning to the 3% growth rates were unrealistic at best.
We are not bringing the 90s back, he said. Three percent was normal then because the baby boomers were in their prime and we had a tech boom. Now baby boomers are aging out of the workforce and the tech booms impact has fizzled, Trumps budget would likely add decimal points not percentage points to US growth, he said.
This is like pretending you have won the lottery when all you have is a handful of scratch cards, he said.
