I finished watching Fionna and Cake and as someone currently obsessed with Simon and a huge spongebob enjoyer, I knew what must be done.

“Mimic Madness” from Spongebob and “Simon and Marcy” from Adventure Time are two of Tom Kenny’s best performances imo, and perfectly portray both ends of his voice acting ability.
Mimic Madness is an amazing display of his vocal range and his ability to do impressions. My favorite bit of the episode outside of the outstanding musical number is the part where spongebob does an impression of the french narrator, because he’s doing an impression of one of his characters doing an impression of another one of his characters which is no easy task.
Simon and Marcy on the other hand shows how much emotion and heart he can put into his voices. From his forced cheerfulness as Simon tries to comfort his adopted daughter, to his wacky scat rap, to his fearful desperation, to his somber tone seamlessly transitioning into a insane laughter as he briefly succumbs to the ice crown’s influence, and finally blending all of them together in the gut punch that is the infamous cheers scene. This episode is famous for being a huge tearjerker but Tom Kenny’s vocal performance is easily the highlight because of how much emotion and soul he puts into it. Tom Kenny is usually associated with wackier and goofier roles like Spongebob, Spyro, or that one investigator guy from the Clone Wars with the funny voice that no one cares about, so its such a strange experience to watch his voice not only used in such an emotional context, but to have his silliness used AGAINST us to make the scenes where he lapses into Ice King even more terrifying.
Tom Kenny is one of the greatest voice actors in all of cartoon history.
