[Hanfu・漢服]Chinese Southern Dynasties (420-589) Traditional Clothing Hanfu,Hairstyle & Makeup Reference to Southern Dynasties Portrait Brick Relics
_______
【History Note】
The Southern Dynasties (420-589) were inherited from the Eastern Jin Dynasty and established by the Han nationality. There were four dynasties included which is Southern “Song Dynasty(南朝:宋)”, the Southern “Qi Dynasty (南朝:齐)” , the Southern “Liang Dynasty (南朝:梁)” , and the Southern “Chen Dynasty (南朝:陈)” , all of which took Jiankang(建康) (now Nanjing, Jiangsu) as their capital.
This hairstyle was restored from the portrait brick of a maid with double hair buns, which was unearthed in the Southern Dynasties Tomb of Qijia Village, Chashan, in the southern suburbs of Changzhou.
The makeup is the forehead yellow makeup(额黄妆) that was very popular in the Northern and Southern Dynasties.During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, Buddhism was prevalent, and some women got inspiration from gold-painted Buddha statues, and formed the custom of decorating their foreheads with yellow.
In the beginning, yellow dye or minerals were used to smear the forehead with a paintbrush, and then yellow petals, gold foil and other decorations were also pasted on the forehead, which is called Huahuang(花黄).
