Mother Cat finally relented and let me pet her, so I betrayed her trust, grabbed her, and took her and the four little guys to the shelter. I feel extremely guilty, but I really didn’t want the dogs getting near her or the kittens, and the longer they were there, the more likely that was. The shelter didn’t seem to have many cats around, so hopefully they’ll be adopted quickly.

As I was carrying them in, I ran into two women who were almost seduced by the plaintive little meeps... but in the time it took me and a staffer to transfer all five into a kennel and make fun of Dad’s gingertab hoard, they decided to stick with their original plan of getting an adult cat. There was a big gray guy who’d already been fixed and immunized, and he looked at them hopefully, and their decision was made. The right one, clearly.

I have fallen down stairs twice in the past twelve hours; my allergies are messing up my balance again. I need to get some of these Inner-Ear-Impairing Animals into a crate so I can take them to the shelter.

The four tiny kittens are all now eating solid food, using the litter box, and letting me pet them, and two of them now feel safe walking up to me and climbing my legs, so they’re definitely well-enough socialized. I just don’t want to separate them from their mother; she will still only BARELY tolerate being touched, and then only when I’ve got food she wants. I’m not sure I’ll even be able to catch her, especially after I twisted my ankle last night.

Ideally, I’d take all 7 of the gingertab party in at once, but I’m kind of reluctant to bring Uncertainty to the shelter until I’ve got him calmed down a little more. Loquacity’s got striking coloration and loves every mammal he meets, so I doubt he’ll have trouble getting adopted... but Uncertainty’s pretty average-looking aside from his eyes, and he’s really dependent on his brother. If I’m in the room with them, he won’t play with his toys if Loquacity gets too far away from him.

If I wait too long, though, they will not longer be Babies, which will make it harder to get them adopted at all. A conundrum.
