people seem to hate her, but Gloria Akalitus easily became one of my favorite TV characters while watching Nurse Jackie. Anna Deveare Smith is really one of the greats.

I just finished Nurse Jackie

And I am so upset yet so impressed and it was the best show I've ever watched. The plot was so detailed and so well-planned, and the cast could not have been a better fit. I think everyone should watch this show, there's a reason it's 5 stars on Netflix

Gloria akalitus(sp) had a highly demanding job as an administrator. She started forgetting things small things, big things and she had Post-it notes all over her desk. Being a woman of a certain age of course everybody in the show and probably in the audience was thinking its Alzheimer's. They went to a glorious plan to blood test her without her knowing and with her as a willing participant. It turns out that she was on a high dose of Depakote. It through her ammonia levels way out of whack very high and the show revealed that a side effect is short-term memory loss. As a care partner & a nursing student, I have seen patients with very high ammonia levels. Memory is a hallmark as far as my experience is concerned
