💕 tell us about one of your favorite characters and why you like them!
Ok so heres the thing! For me, its Hordak. 100%, hands down, its gotten to the point that if i Sigh dreamily irl my friends with just look and me and say with a depressed acceptance, "Hordak?" As if to say 'god... this guy? Again?'
But i feel like its important to say this--
If you went to another spop blog, and asked this same question to a catra stan, they would say Catra!
And then, nearly verbatim, 98% of the reasons they list as to why would be IDENTICAL. To the reasons I like Hordak.
And the fact that Hordak and Catra have such Insanely Identical character arcs is the first of the many reasons i love him.
To make it easy on you, i will try to shorten my reasons and keep them Moderately organized. It Will still be long most likely, but please know ive tried.
1.) Hordak is Intensely Sympathetic. Like, Crew-ra might have gone a little to far in just how pitiable they made him.
-- You don't find out till season 3, but he is Literally motivated by insecurity and desire to be Accepted by Horde Prime, Emperor of the Known Universe, who he is a Clone of, and was literally created to serve!
Tumblr media
-- The reason he craves acceptance is because Prime cast him out onto the front lines to die in battle. Oh, Why, you ask? Was he treacherous? Was he too violent? Was he too friendly? No! No to all three! His Heinous Act that Offended Prime So.... was the fact that he was disabled.
-- he is sick. He has a chronic illness that is causing his body to atrophy and quite near literally fall apart. He requires a life support body suit in order to manage the pain and continue functioning even moderately close to normalcy. At one point, without his armor on, trying to just yell at someone to get out of his lab puts literally so much stress on his body that he passes out. My mans is not feeling well, like, ever.
-- by the time he gets back to Prime, we alreasy hate him for that. Thats fucked up, Prime, you shouldn't have tossed him aside for being sick, it wasnt his fault! And the scene plays out. I wont get into detail, both bc im trying to be brief and because i wont do just how sickening the scene is justice. But basically, get this--heres where we start to realize just how horribly we underestimated Prime's scummyness--Prime punishes hordak again. He WIPES HOS MEMORIES, and essentially **kills him** in doing so, because.... Hordak... Dared... To Be..... Hordak.
He killed Hordak for the sole fact that he gave himself a name.
-- bad enough for you yet? We are not done!
-- season 5 starts. I will keep this EXTRA brief bc spoilers, please just watch the show to understand the Full Scope of what im saying, because I swear this to you on all i care about. Prime is a Cult Leader, and the intergalactic Clone Horde is a Cult.
This not a Metaphor.
This is not Hyperbole.
It is a legitimate Cult.
And Hordak was born into it. He was brainwashed by it in a way that we as regular humans isolated on a single planet without a clone army could not possibly hope to comprehend. Hordak never had a chance. Hordak never had a choice.
And when he did, Prime's brainwashing made sure that Hordak was wholly incapable of recognizing it, nevermind believing himself deserving of it.
2.) He's very Sexy and Cute.

I rest my case.
3.) His Parallels(--) and Connections(**) with Catra and Adora specifically.
Catra parallels+connections:
-- Looking for approval from a Familial Supervisor (Prime and Shadow Weaver)
-- So much self loathing over feeling like they're Not Good Enough.
-- Having That One Favorite Person that they love and were willing to change for.
-- having that favorite person suddenly torn away from them and spiraling into a violent depression.
-- Depression but a second time bc i cannot stress this enough, they are No Okay.
-- Saved by Platonic Love that is heavily implied to be/canonly turned Romantic at/after the end of the show.
** Hordak was her Terrifying Boss in s1-s3--Catra manipulates and 'overthrows' his position as leader of the horde in season 4 by getting rid of Entrapta and lying to Hordak about How. I use quotes bc they actually end up working together--its a duel effort, and Hordak goes out of his way to acknowledge her successes and give her credit for the success their conquest has had. Hordak genuinely trusted her--he genuinely thought they were friends.
Adora parallels+connections:
-- the only aliens on Etheria while it's in Despondos, stranded there against their will by Light Hope's portals.
-- both struggle with the concept of destiny, of being tools for others to use. They both base ALL their worth in how they can serve others. And both of them learn to buck those thoughts and compulsions and refuse to let 'destiny' tell them who to be. They chose for themselves in the end.
-- incredibly stupid and love their wives
** without getting spoilery, while there were never Close in the way they were in the og series, they have an incredible bond that really, truely felt more poignant and emotionally moving to me than the majority of the other characters in the show. That bond represents hope. That bond represents mercy. That bond represents a kind of unspoken understanding that i could never, ever do justice by trying to put it into words. They are incredibly important to me, and I hope they became friends after the final act, because I think it would do both of them a lot of good.
Ok im about to cry so im going to end this here, thank you for the ask!!!!
Watch She-ra and the Princesses Of Power. Please. You won't regret it.
