About the promo photo. White washing is a big thing in SK media and especially fan site pictures. One thing I have always appreciated is how natural and not white washed/lightened BTS in their own original content, like Run Bv. SK is a predominantly monoethnic nation and white skin has always been emphasized as part of the ideal beauty standards. In my own predominantly brown country, skin whitening cream is big. A few stars are challenging those ideals in Korea. Unfortunately it isn't up to them sometimes how the media chooses to reprint their image.

If you see untouched, unfiltered, unwhitewashed concert photos of BTS, it is the most gorgeous thing ever. You will see some tan beautiful skin under golden stage lights. According to people who have met them irl they have glowing skin that is darker than what many fan sites (not operated by Hybe) portray them as, which is ghostly white. Only Yoongi is naturally extremely pale I have heard.

As for the promo photo, I think that's just the saturation of the image and I didn't personally read much into it. As a poc I am not unaware of these things and it had not struck me as something unusual. But everyone will have a different opinion.

Hi anon. You're right, fansite photos although beautiful are often, if not always, altered to give an almost perfect image. The standards of beauty not only in the kpop world but in Korea as such are sometimes extreme? or at least that's what I've read.

As for BTS photos, I think it's the first time I've noticed something like that, at least in the photos released directly by BHM. I think we all have a clear idea of each member's complexion, beyond the fact that they are always wearing makeup. I've also read descriptions from fans who have seen the guys in person describing them that way, even saying that they are much more beautiful. I don't know how that's possible.

I'm also POC and I didn't really take it as whitewashing but as a result of the theme they chose for the photo shoots and the lighting. With BTS you always have to take into account the cultural context in which they live, that influences a lot of the things they say or do, and that doesn't necessarily mean it's right but it's something to take into account. But as you say we all have different opinions and interpret things differently. The opinion or concern of the anon who brought this up is of course valid.

I always felt a little out of place in the makeup world because, at the time, when I was coming up trying to learn shit it wasn't like it is now where there's respect for creative freedom and there's a niche for every style. It was like, if you wanted to learn to do makeup, there was a Right Way to do it and that meant worshiping Kevin Aucoin and Bobbi Brown books like the bible and making every look the standard of Flawless, Effortlessly Eurocentric Youth-Fetishizing 90's Supermodel Minimalism. I wanted to create looks that felt inspired and were performance art and statement pieces, my personal aspiration with my looks was that like... I wanted to achieve something beyond the banal of being human. I wanted to look like a fucking alien, I wanted people to see my makeup and go "I don't know what the fuck that is but it's confusing and scary and I am feeling Emotions about it" but there wasn't room for that, not in the spaces I found online but especially not in the irl world of makeup around me. I saw makeup and fashion as a tool to take control of the way the world experienced me, I wanted to transcend the petty rules of peoples perceptions of me, but... Idk. I wish I could rediscover that passion for makeup as a medium and the human body as a canvas, but... Idk. I'm a tired old bitch now and I can't be bothered anymore. I don't even wanna be perceived at this point and any form of self expression that falls short of an invisibility cloak is falling short of the goal lmfaoooooooo 😂 ugh how depressing! Not the mood. But ANYWAYS I completely live for the boys and in my head Felix is literally four inches tall and could fit into my shirt pocket, I mentally picture him as the epitome of Pampered Smol, and no one can convince me otherwise, the boy is Tiny, a Petito, a Micro, a Wee Bern. If I even begin to approach the absolute hysteria that thinking of Lee Felix Ear Freckles would cause me I will absolutely collapse and once I am revived with smelling salts I will need to be sent to the seaside for the season to recover 👌

I cut my hair over the weekend due to depression, so I’m BALD bald, but I don’t have many pictures because I’m still trying to get used to my peanut ass head

We have our lovely Changbin as my bias . He’s close to becoming my ult because ya girl went from being multi fandom to only stanning two groups. Everyone knows why I love this man, so I shouldn’t have to explain much(he’s only a year older than me so that’s a whole plus, I mean he wears glasses {occasionally} and I wear glasses cause I’m blind, his hair is dyed and my hair is dyed so I mean :)) ) but his style and attitude is really intriguing (AND WOOO CHILE HIS EMOTIONS WHEN HE RAPS), anywhore before debut I saw an individual who cares deeply for his members but he also seemed so reserved. After debut we saw another side of him that made me fall in love with everything he does.

We have our lovely Felix as my first bias wrecker. First off, let’s talk about his skin right here in this picture......he is GLOWING and I’m here for every unwhitewashed picture there is (so if you have any plz send them my way). Anywhore Felix has always been intriguing to me as an individual (not only b/c we’re the age) but he has been through hell and back with JYP and I’m happy he’s with Stray Kids cause I was an emotional, sobbing wreck when he was eliminated. He came to Korea having such a hard time with the language and he has progressed so much I cry sometimes. The first time I heard him talk I was SHOOK, his voice is deeper than half of the guys our age and it is HILARIOUS. (Also here’s my haircut)

Well well well, we have Hyunjin as my second bias wrecker! At first I was not on the Hyunjin stan train b/c for a while people were only stanning him because of his looks and I hated being grouped with those fans. Hyunjin is more than just a pretty face, (he is extremely gorgeous though) he worked hard for the recognition he deserves. As a dancer and as a rapper, Hyunjin is extremely talented and I CRY every time I see him perform. From day one, we have been seeing such a huge improvement, from both him and the entire group, and seeing how young he is, (he’s the only one in the 00’ line who’s older than me by some months) I am SO ready to see how much he improves in the future!
