Rue @Janus: "I'm interested in learning more about the gate. You stay here and watch over it, right? What do you know that you can tell me?"
“So you’re curious about the gateway huh? Well, I can’t blame ya, it’s a real work of beauty! It’s held up even after millions of years, where most others need to be replaced every other century.”
“But I’m getting ahead of myself, let's start with how it works and then move on from there.” Janus said, floating over to the side of the gate and gesturing towards the gems embedded within its frame, “You see these stones? They’re what power the gate, and they’re a special kind of stone known as Rift Gems. These gems needed to be melded into the frame of gateways to work and are able to be crafted, though it takes a LOT of energy to do so. Usually only a couple are needed, but the Obsidian Gate is a special case! These bad boys in particular were made using the boss's energy, so they're incredibly powerful.”

“This gateway’s long survival is mostly on account of who made it, none other than the mother of the big boss herself! She’s a real master smith, and it's because of her this gate even works in the first place. Most gates connect continents, but this one reaches through realms. It connects this world with the overworld parallel to it, our home world so to speak.”

“The Obsidian Gate is connected to the network of gateways across the globe, and even some off it, so by passing through it you can exit through any one you so desire! Usually gates only connect to one or two other places, so the Obsidian Gate must be carefully monitored and protected. There are only a couple portals that directly connect to it. It’s easy to exit, but hard to enter. Only those native to this land can directly return through any gateway they please.”
Janus paused for a second before speaking again, their tone slightly more weary, stark in contrast to their cheerful self. “Due to past… negative experiences, Vourison’s grown wary of others entering. I can’t really blame him, it’s one of the reasons I guard the gate. Luckily for you, we’re giving this whole ‘open to visitors’ thing another shot! So behave please, or you’ll leave this place much crispier than you entered.”
