yeah so i am an advocate for ”the jedi and the clones aren’t friends” but i still think that to some degree rex and ahsoka have like this. this kind of a friendship that mostly revolves around rex taking care of ahsoka.

like the fandom has collectively decided that rex and ahsoka are like siblings, and in a way i agree: even though i think that the two aren’t that close and never will be, they still have this bond. like rex has been the little brother all his life and now he’s a captain commanding a legion, and his general gets a new padawan.

so i think that rex doesn’t agree with the decision to take a child into the war and he sees how reckless anakin is and he sees how reckless ahsoka is, so he thinks that eventually anakin can teach her from better to worse. so rex feels the need to step up and somehow shield her from the war and her master like a big brother would.

rex isn’t friends with anakin by any means, and just in general rex is very reluctant to make friends. he’s got his brothers and that’s all he needs (i mean he has like millions of them so really he has lots of friends) so he’s not keen on having friends outside the GAR or any non-clones. but rex has this big brother instinct that goes must protect when he sees ahsoka, especially after the shenanigans they pull during the first battles they go to together.

so while rex and ahsoka aren’t that close and rex wouldn’t consider ahsoka his friend, he sees her as some sort of responsibility. a little sister he needs to protect and guide when her master fails to do so. someone to look after her and make sure she’s ok because anakin sure as hell won’t be doing that, not always.

of course ahsoka sees this as friendship and rex is fine with that, he would just never tell her that they’re not friends. rex is more like a distant uncle than a friend, and i think that sort of dynamic would work with the jedi and the clones.
