Q&A
what app do you use for your social media fics?
for my smau fics, i use the app social dummy. i've been using the app for almost 3 years now and it comes with formats for twt, insta, lock screen, facetime, imsg, youtube, news, etc. i've made a few one-time payments for the app to unlock specific features like unlimited msging and profiles.
for more recent social media features like insta dm's "replied to your story" formats, i use my own insta accounts and photoshop them into my msg edits. for the most part, i am using picsart, pinterst, or make-shifting the edits on my own.
with all that being said, i have been told that social dummy is no longer available on the app store. there are a few alternatives i've been looking into but ultimately have not been satisfied with the way the edits turn out. i will update this faq if and when i find something new and available for all.
what's your update schedule?
currently, i’m living the kdrama life of the poor full-time student girl with with 2 jobs. as much as i want to commit to updating on a regular schedule,, i can not. my work is usually a tba kind of vibe lol. for the most part, i update when i can and when i want.
what is your content style? what is the kimiverse?
a lot of my fics follow simple storylines imo. i think i end up writing a lot of college/uni au's because that's where my current state in life is so it's a lot easier to relate and gain fic inspo.
kimiverse sums up my fics & characters . it’s more known for the connection between fics like your universe & nonsense ,, casual & sour candy kisses ,, and paraluman & chaebol!jk

why do you content dump?
haha.
i go through impulsive moments of jus wanting to update. it usually happens when i'm avoiding school work.

to be added to my permanent taglist, send in an ASK. the cut off of my 2024 permanent taglist will be may 1, 2024. i will reset sometime next year!

anon is off so i can keep my blog as lighthearted as possible. i had it on for a while now but after a few asks that made me feel meh, i figured this is the best way to set my boundaries. let’s keep the asks kind!

which order am i supposed to read the series if there are extras with the chapter numbers?
read the series parts first. the extras can be read after. i usually put a note in the beginning of the extras to state the time placement for the fic.
why are there so many typos?
it is what it is!
as much as i’d love to edit my work into perfection, i can’t. after i post a texting au, i’d recommend waiting 15 mins because i’m usually doing last minute edits. after i post a written, i’d recommend waiting 1 day because i’m usually re-read it again and again and again and making tweaks. no matter how much i reread or re-edit, i’m always going to be finding little things to change. so, for my own peace of mind.. i give myself the 15 mins or the 1 day before letting it be what it is.
can i critique your work?
no thank you.
i write because i like to write. i write and post content that serves my creative drive and growth as a content creator. i love positive feedback and getting to hear your opinions on characters, but i’d simply like to have my work remain as it is. i worked hard and spent time writing / making the content so jus enjoy it!
i’ll fix my grammar, my wordy sentance, and mis-punctuation when i get paid for writing fanfics… which will be ???
this is art! … and it’s literally fiction.

DFX 452 Post 6:New Ideas, Storyboard, Ect.(Mar 1, 2024)
Hey, I am back. It has been a while, but I have been working and also go some new ideas. This post will include things like, new blog format, reformatting, storyboarding, edited the walls a little, Made the save point star (from Undertale), and new decisions.
New Blog Format:
I Have been thinking, and thanks to group critiques, and I found a format that I want to try for blog posts. I want to have some in-between blogs to help focus on, and capture, what I am currently working on the specific day I am working on it. For example, if I am working on lighting for the windows on Sunday, then I will make a mini blog post focusing on the lighting, on Sunday. I think this will heavily benefit me for time capsuling more of my work, while also going into more detail on what is currently being worked on.
Reformatting Outliner:
For some reason my Maya file for the Judgement Hall was messed up. There were extra models in the scene, and the organization of the outliner was messed up so I had to fix it, format it better, delete extra models, and more. Now it looks better, cleaner, and should be easier to work with for me, and any client that could use the model in the future.

Storyboarding:
I have been busy thinking of how I want to storyboard my demo reel. I took some paper, watched different scenes, from different movies, demo reels showing off environment, and animations, to do research. I made a draft storyboard, on paper, of some of the main shots I want. This will be revised and tidied up once it gets closer to making the demo reel, but I am happy that I now have an idea of what important shots I want in it, even if the sketches are basic. There is a reason why I am a digital artist over a non-digital one... my drawing skills. I remake it when the time comes and either scan it or make it in Photoshop, but at this stage, it is good as it is.

Wall Edits:
I realized that the walls were too thin and It was affecting the overall appearance of the scene, when the windows were connected to them, so I extruded out the walls for the future window redesign.

Save Star Model:
I also decided to add another item model to use in the scene. If anyone reading this has played Undertale then you know what this is. How can you keep resetting/coming back after death? well the save star of course! this is a pretty iconic thing in the game since it is how someone saves their game. Here is a reference of it's shape:

I decided to model a basic version of it to show off in my Judgement Hall scene. I started with a cylinder, got it to the size I wanted, the took a set of vertices. I then selected them and selected the next set of vertices every 2 sets, then I scaled them down to get the star shape. This is what I got.

After that I added surface shaders, and also made another version then took a render:

Now the star, in the 2D game, twinkles. I want to emulate that, if time allows, for the demo, by animating it(the model I choose) rotating continuously, or twinkling. I will fiddle with that later, but I just wanted to have the model done, and there are more pressing matters to deal with, like finishing the updates to past models, and finish the ceiling. If I do decide to have them moving in the demo, then I will make a post involving me messing with getting the animation right.
New Decisions:
After seeing what others are presenting, and taking feedback, I have decided that it might be a good Idea to start messing with Unreal Engine 5 for this project. This week, I am going to import what I have so far into Unreal and see how it looks. I will test out lighting, and the camera to see if I find it better than Maya's tools for delivering the renders I want. I will also see what textures would transfer and what ones would not, because i would have to remake textures that don't transfer, and depending on which ones, it might take to long for what time I currently have, and maya might be the better option. This will be a basic test to see which program would be the better option to work in for shots, lighting, and rendering.
Conclusion/TLDR:
I have taken a look at a new format for these blogs which involves possibly updating it more frequently. I have also made a basic draft of my storyboard for important shots for the demo reel in the future. I have extruded the walls so the scene looks less flat, made two different models for the Undertale save star, and will fiddle with Unreal Engine 5, later down the line, to see if it would be better for certain things, like camera movement and lighting, than Maya for the demo reel. I am on break, so I have way more time to focus on updating this project so expect more updates this coming week as I finish up remodeling some past models, make celling, and (if the week isn't over by then), take a crack at fixing my lighting, or testing the Unreal Engine 5 exporting.

Developing the Experience

To begin creating the portal, I experimented with setting up a camera animation through some planets/spheres in Maya and choosing Arnold VR in the render settings (see fig. 1).

I rendered out a couple of seconds as a test and output it into dome format, but there was something amiss with the way it was rendered (see fig. 2). It may be due to traveling vertically rather than horizontally and the eye-spacing setting. This needs some troubleshooting, so I moved onto the bulk of the portal animation which was the portal effect itself and I’ll attempt to correct the 3D aspect later.

I had decided to use After Effects to create the portal after some research into tutorials and was fairly confident I could do it. I followed a tutorial (see fig. 3), but it was slow and arduous as I'm fairly new to After Effects and they used unspecified hotkeys I did not know, I also had to reverse engineer a plugin that I did not own with blending modes. I had trouble with After Effects interpreting the camera settings in the tutorial shown. I realised belatedly that it was still set up for dome output. I reset my composition settings and had to restart the tutorial. Despite this steep learning curve, the initial result was really convincing and I was able to apply the technique to new layers, building a richer image, such as the stars in fig. 5&6. Because I chose not to warp the stars it created a 3D parallax effect. I attempted using alternative source images for the portal effect, but none worked as well as the detailed nebula in fig. 7.

I wanted to further enrich the portal and lengthen the time, so I precomposed my work yet again (this would be the fourth time to achieve the effect) and offset two duplicate layers all on a screen blending mode and faded them into one another using opacity and keyframing. I also needed to conceal the “black hole” that was created from the edge of the source image. I took the source images into Photoshop and painted in a black, feathery edge to help soften the fade, I also offset the image and removed the seam for clean wrapping (see fig. 7&8).

I precomposed again, scaled it down and created a circle mask about the same size as the hole. I then increased the feathering as much as I could. There was still a visible black dot, so I repeated the above technique only pulling from another part of the portal. I added a gaussian blur to this to reduce the amount of animation (see Fig. 9). The final result is quite effective (see Fig. 10). To tie into the original portal concept and to prepare to transition into the final scene, I added a hue/saturation effect to turn the portal red. I rendered the portal using Adobe Media Encoder.
