Look at my new Vintage Patterns - kids collection
A friend of my mother's gave me a bag of her old patterns, including some great ones from around 1985.
Look at these delightful illustrations:
Tumblr media
We start with some sweet sailor suits and dresses I mostly kept for costuming purposes and vintage appeal. The one on the left is from 1984, I'm guessing the sailor suits are as well.
Tumblr media
Then some more modern baby clothes because adorable and maybe something I could make for the Freckling if I ever go mad enough to want to make teeny-tiny clothes again.
Tumblr media
Then some coats and pyjamas that I think one of my baby cousins would go wild for.
Tumblr media
And then some fun kid's clothes! Look how dapper those vest-wearing girls are! And the skirt looks very convenient and cute too.
I still haven't recovered from the strawberry suit I made for a cousin's baby, but should the urge overtake me, I am now well prepared...
(Link to the grown-up fancy lady patterns here).

The full lineup is almost done!! (just needs some touch ups and a Chunsik design👍) FEEDBACK IS GREATLY APRECIATED!!
Tumblr media
Design process under here (whole lot of yapping)
General thoughts: Ive given them in my previous design sheet (you can find it in my blog)(tldr: designs match characters but still childish, 8-12 years old). Only thing different here, is that these eggs were eggs who I had less of a clear idea of what I wanted to do with them (though I still really liked where I ended up!!)
Empanada: Didnt want to go for the full sweet lolita route, mostly because I thought it'd take away the "little kidness" of it all, but something that still resembles the aesthetic. She's wearing "carneirinhos" (idk the name in english) which is very cute little girl to me, and shes also a demon! Her tail resembles a frying pan!! Though I might change her fringe (it was supposed to be baby hairs but now that I think about it, her type of hair probably wouldnt have them) and put some argyle pattern in her sweater vest. I just forgor💀 to do that...I also wish I had made her shorter, but unfortunetely I drew this before the eggs did the height check (YES ITS BEEN THAT LONG).
Sunny: My beautiful baby girl. She means the world to me. I love this minecraft egg with all my heart. Shes wearing Light up sketchers and some fairy wings like Pomme, and shes actually wearing a swimsuit, she just put a tutu over it. The diamonds they're always holding are rings, they have a "terere" in their hair (idk name in english😭😭) and the beads were inspired by an artist on twt (@\BLUETOMATOSODA). Also if you are wondering why her hair looks like tentacles, its because I had originally made it puffy, but changed my mind after doing the lineart, so i had to get creative with me covering it up. Just pretend she has a fan, shes a star after all!
Pepito: Basically, he is very smoll. Chiquito even. He has strawberry hair and MASSIVE glasses that take up his entire face. Hes wearing a swimsuit aswell (dont ask how it works idk either), and has floaties since he cant swim. Hes got crocs, since flip flops hurt his toes, with a spider man charm on them! Also hes got a sunhat, mostly cause I wanted some other accessorie but didnt want to go with gas mask since it'd kinda kill the whole swimming vibe (since his model is wearing a swimsuit). sorry if its not too accurate to his character. Side note: Him, Em and Sunny all have freckles! Him and Sunny all over their bodies while Em just has on her cheeks.
Leo: Cute sporty vibe, love her shorty spiky hair. Wanted to try to make her face spiky aswell, for the whole shark dad thing. Shes got a necklace with a shark tooth (I guess she got it from Foolish??). He changes tshirts randomly, and opens and closes his attack on titan hoodie depending on the tshirt's expression (basically my version of Leo changing her player heads constantly). His trainers have dragon wings and also: whealies!!
Dapper: Im gonna be honest: did not expect to like his design THIS much. The colouring really elevated, with the long blue hair (the same colour as the ghosties!). Wanted to make them, y'know, dapper, so I had to sacrifice some of the "little kid vibes" unfortunetely, but I think it fits her still. The hat has part of the helmet that they used to wear a lot, demon horn to match Pomme, and a suit that is VERY inspired by Death the Kid from Soul Eater (very fitting for a reaper in training imo). Might be my favourite design!
Ramon: Jesus fuck you'd think designing your fav egg would be easy BUT NO. I struggled long and hard. Again, he doesnt have that much "little kid" vibe whatever man😭😭 Im just happy that I even managed to make SOMETHING. Hes got Create googles, his meathead is a massive hat that completely hides his hair. Very simple, very Ramon, though I will probably end up making a version with an ugly sweater just like he likes instead😔. I still like it but. man...
ANYWAYS IF YOU READ ALL THAT MWAH, YOURE A REAL ONE, THANKS FOR ENTERTAINING MY THOUGHTS🫶🫶🫶

so! here’s the Vic/Eddie nobody asked for, featuring a road bar, some country music and even a couple of punches! thanks to @anticmiscellaney for giving me great ideas and editing my awful typos. hope you all enjoy
all the songs referenced are listed at the end
Don’t touch me, I’m a real live wire (Vic/Eddie, G, 3.6k)
“Uhhh… I’m bored as shit,” Eddie lets the pool cue fall from his hands onto the table as he speaks, and Vic gives him a raised eyebrow. They’ve been shooting pool for a couple hours now, but he’s noticed Eddie’s attention drifting away from the game for the past thirty minutes.
“Let’s go someplace,” Eddie insists.
Vic props himself up and nods obligingly, “Okay,“ he looks up for a moment, musing, and remembers there’s a place he’s been meaning to visit. “Let’s go to Bull’s Bar-B-Q.”
Eddie tenses up, only for a moment, but the gesture doesn’t escape Vic’s attention. He knows him, he can tell there’s something up, so he follows Eddie out of the room and down the stairs and waits for his answer.
“Nah, don’t feel like it,” Eddie says nonchalantly, “pick somewhere else.”
Vic squints his eyes. What is Eddie trying to hide from him? Is there something, someone at the bar he doesn’t want Vic to run into? “I wanna go to Bull’s.”
“Well I don’t,” there’s a tang of irritation in Eddie’s voice as he puts on a flashy yellow and blue polyester jacket, “so let’s go someplace else.”
Vic reaches to open the front door and smiles slowly, looking at Eddie with slightly raised eyebrows; he takes a bit of amusement in making Eddie nervous. And if there’s something he doesn’t want him to know about at the bar, then Vic’s going to find out.
“Well I’m going to Bull’s,” he takes his car keys out of his pocket and walks out into the driveway toward his Cadillac, “You’re welcome to come if you want.”
He knows Eddie will follow, and sure enough, he huffs loudly behind him, making a show out of his sulking as he gets into the car, “Vic, you’re impossible.”
In the way over Eddie turns the radio’s dial one way and the other every two minutes, doesn’t let a single song end before he’s changing stations. Every time it looks like he’s finally picked something to listen, his arm shoots out and he’s at it again. Eventually, Vic clicks his tongue irritated and reaches across to slap Eddie’s hand away.
“Leave the fucking thing alone, you’re getting on my nerves,” he glances at Eddie, and tries again to get an answer, “What is up with you?”
“Well for starters I don’t wanna go to that stupid cowboy bar of yours.”
Vic takes a long drag off his cigarette, peers at Eddie before answering, “Why not?”
“I don’t fucking feel like it,” Eddie drags the words out, like he’s trying to make a stubborn child come to reason. Vic doesn’t raise to the bait.
“Why not?”
“What the fuck does it matter why?” There’s a vein starting to swell in Eddie’s neck.
Vic shrugs indifferently, “Well I wanna go because I haven’t been there since I left the can. Nobody’s forcing you to come.”
Eddie throws up his arms out like that’s the most stupid thing he ever heard, “Oh, yes, I can just get out here in the middle of fucking nowhere and walk back home.”
“Just sayin’.”
They’re both dancing around the issue, pretending they don’t know there’s something Eddie’s not saying. Vic doesn’t push, just keeps driving until he sees the neon sign creep up behind some trees.
They pull up into a place on the side of the road with a big parking lot full of pick-up trucks and motorbikes. The blinking sign on the front displays the face of an angry bull with big red horns, along the name “BULL’S BAR-B-Q”. Vic parks the car and gets out, then comes around the back to open Eddie’s door with a grin. Eddie rolls his eyes, pouring sarcasm into every word as he speaks, “Who woulda thought, prison’s turn you into a real fucking gentleman.”
Vic ignores the acid in his voice as he follows him toward the door.
The room is crowded, dimly lit with fake orange kerosene lamps on the tables and neon signs on the wall with the names of beer brands. Gang bikers in leather vests mumble among each other in the dark corner tables, and men dressed in cowboy outfits take their girls out to dance on the open floor by one side, where a young man who’d made a great Waylon Jennings softly sings …Someday when we meet up yonder, we’ll stroll hand in hand again… if some cowboys hug one another and start dancing together, nobody seems to notice.
As soon as they’re inside Vic notices Eddie’s attempt to be subtle about the way he’s giving the whole place a glance, stretching his neck and looking left and right. Vic sneaks closer in silence until he’s perching over his shoulder and whispers quietly on his ear, “See a table you like, Eddie?”
Eddie jumps startled and shoots back a glare at Vic, slowly blinking, “Do not fucking do that to me Toothpick.”
Vic can’t help a low chuckle as he settles a hand on Eddie’s neck and squeezes softly, “Why you so hot under the collar, huh?”
Eddie seems to be satisfied with his survey of the place, because he shrugs away, turns around and sits down on the first table that he finds available, immediately signaling for a waitress. They order beer and start drinking in silence, and soon he seems to unwind, losing his nervous edge, and they even manage to have a conversation about Waylon Jennings’ 70s transition from dapper genteel cowboy to scruffy, brash outlaw without barking at each other.
Vic is saying, “He peaked right after he changed his looks, nothing tops Dreaming My Dreams,” he starts singing quietly, “I’ve been a fool, I’ve been a fool, forgiving you each time that you’ve done me wrong…”
Eddie makes a dismissive gesture, “Yeah, but what about Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town? That’s a country classic.
“Yeah, but that Nashville sound shit is so impersonal, he was just doing what everybody else was doing. The other stuff is raw and unique, he’s singing about his struggles in life” he tries to take a swig of his beer before realizing it’s empty, “He looked hotter in the sixties, though… when he sang Your love scares me to death girl, it’s the chokin’ kind…,” he purrs, and gives Eddie a wink.
Just then the bar’s band wraps up a song, and after a brief applause the singer starts crooning and strumming his guitar, “The only two things in life that make it worth livin’…”
Eddie chuckles, “Well, speaking of the devil.”
Eddie’s laughter and the stupid conversation makes Vic remember how much he missed having fun with him while he was in jail, and suddenly he doesn’t care too much about whatever crap he was hiding anymore; it was probably just Eddie’s usual bullshit, he must have been caught cheating at cards or something like that. And Vic’s been giving him shit all night for it. He looks up Eddie sideways, smiling smugly.
“Hey, you wanna dance?” he could swear he sees Eddie blushing a little, but maybe that’s just the beer.
“What am I, your girlfriend?” Eddie says with exaggerated offence, and Vic tilts his head and scratches his brow like he’s seriously considering the question. Eddie huffs, “Nah, you go.”
“Your loss,” Vic grins and stands up and moves toward the dance floor with swaggering steps.
Vic dances alone for the duration of half a song until a young redheaded girl in a denim skirt approaches him with a grin.
“Hey stranger, you wanna dance?” she has a chirpy voice and a soft southern accent. Vic offers her his hand and his most charming smile.
“Sure, sweetheart.”
She takes his hand and places the other on his shoulder, coming nearer but not quite touching him; Vic doesn’t close the distance but rests his arm around her waist when they start moving to the music.
“You’re not from around here, are you?” Vic is a head taller than her, so he has to tilt down his head to look at her eyes.
“Is it obvious?” She’s the kind of girl that smiles with her whole face and voice, and she’s cute, too, but Vic doesn’t really care about it, he’s just dancing with her to make Eddie a bit jealous.
“I’m from Kentucky,“ she continues, "but I moved out here because I wanna be an actress.”
He shoots a glance at their table and can’t repress a smile; Eddie is looking at him with an angry expression, mindlessly turning one of his golden rings in his finger. Just as he wanted.
Vic turns his full attention to the girl again, “An actress, huh? How’s that working out for you?” If he’s gonna make Eddie jealous at least he’s gonna enjoy himself.
They dance around for a couple of songs, talking about the weather in Lexington and the traffic in LA, until Vic looks up again to watch Eddie. But he’s not looking back; instead, he’s sitting on the edge of his seat with a tense stance, looking at the man sitting by his side and trying to put as much distance as possible between them. Vic furrows his brows and lets go of the girls hands without peeling his eyes from the table.
“‘M sorry, sweetie, my friend’s calling me.” He doesn’t see the disappointed look on the girls face, but hears her voice as he walks away.
“Oh, well… okay, it was nice meeting ya’.”
He circles tables and shoves people out of his way with his eyes fixed on Eddie and his companion. He seems like a really big man even seated, bigger than Vic, with broad shoulders and hairy arms resting on top of the table. His cowboy hat keeps his face in the shadows so Vic hasn’t yet seen his face when he stands near the table, interrupting whatever the man was whispering to Eddie.
“I don’t think I know you.”
Eddie looks up alarmed, eyes wide and face twisted with something very close to fear. Vic squints his eyes, confused, and then he looks at the man for the first time. He’s got a broad face, with a dimple on the chin, high cheekbones and a perfectly straight, pointy nose; his eyes are dark as the curly strand of hair that falls from under the hat in the middle of his forehead. He is handsome, and that makes Vic’s gut squirm with anger.
The man chews on a gum slowly, giving Vic a disinterested look up and down before speaking up, "I don’t think I know you.”
Vic chuckles like he finds the answer remotely funny, but he won’t be intimidated by some rowdy rancher. The stranger keeps a straight face.
“I’ll rephrase…,” Vic says, “who the fuck are you?”
Now the man does laugh, a low chuckle as he swings his arm up and around Eddie, resting his hand on his shoulder. “I’m a friend of Eddie’s. Sal’s the name.”
Vic shoots up his brows in surprise at the friendly gesture. He wants to know exactly what the fuck is up with this guy and his eyes go to Eddie in search for an answer, but Eddie’s just standing still, paralyzed and shooting nervous glances between Vic and Sal.
Vic gives the guy a friendly smile now, “Well, Sal, me and Eddie were having a good night, so why don’t you go fuck off,” he makes a swiping gesture with a hand and widens his grin.
“Vic-,” Eddie makes an attempt to intervene but Sal interrupts him.
“Nah, I don’t think I will,” The man reclines his chair back, balancing himself in the back legs with a smug grin on his face and looking like an absolute asshole, “You see, Eddie and I have been very good friends for… what, two years now?” Vic’s muscles tense listening to him, but he lets Sal continue speaking. “And I’ve never seen you so I think you’re the one who should split.” He draws up his thumb from Eddie’s shoulder to stroke his face, which prompts a cringe from him.
"Don’t fucking touch me,” Eddie snarls.
“Now Eddie,” Sal clicks his tongue and uses a chastising tone, “you weren’t saying that the last time I saw you.”
And that does it for Vic, who falls down into a chair next to the man and with a smooth motion grabs him by the collar and gets really close. With his other hand he pulls up the leg of his jeans, trying to draw his blade out of his boot.
“Buddy, if you don’t let go of him right now I will-” he feels a sharp pressure on his stomach and recognizes the shape of a gun’s barrel. His reacts with a surprised laughter, but even he can tell when the odds are really tipping against him, so he opens his left hand to let go of the cuff oh his pants..
“C'mon pal, I don’t think there’s anything that interesting down your boot. Hands where I can see ‘em.”
Vic clicks his tongue and obliges, releasing his collar and drawing up both palms slowly over the table. Sal takes the opportunity to bring Eddie closer and stand up, forcing the other man to get up with him. Vic doesn’t miss a beat and gets on his feet too, hands still up, pressing his chest forward into the gun with a smile on his face. Sal stands tall and strong, a few inches over him, big enough to scare anybody with a hint of common sense. But Vic doesn’t scare easy.
“If you take one single step I’ll break your neck,” he threatens calmly.
Sal’s face hardens as he tightens his grip on the gun, “I don’t think you wanna play this game, pal.”
“Oh, I wanna play,” Vic speaks slowly, “You wanna shoot me?” he points at his own chest with his hands, amused, “C'mon, tough cowboy, shoot me.”
“Vic…” Eddie starts speaking.
“Shut up Eddie,” Vic doesn’t need Eddie getting in the way, the whole fucking point of this is to get this guy away from him, “you, why don’t you pull the trigger if you’re such a tough boy, huh?”
“Vic, fucking stop it.” Eddie’s hurls through closed teeth; Vic can see his face starting to redden from the tension and anger bubbling up in him, but Sal still has an arm around his shoulder, gripping him tightly.
“Cmon.” Vic spurs again, speaking lower and pressing forward, and for a moment he thinks he might have to start throwing punches to get a reaction from the man, but Sal seems to be thinking better of it already; starts releasing the pressure from the gun, drawing it backwards slowly to place it in his hip holster again.
Vic grins, tilting his face up with arrogance, “That’s what I thought…”
The hand around Eddie’s shoulder relaxes, and Sal takes a slow step back as he squints, “I’ll be seeing you, Vic…”
“Yeah, I hope so.”
The man walks backwards slowly, keeping his eyes on Vic until he disappears among the people of the bar.
Vic exhales slowly, distensing his body for the first time in a while. He isn’t sure what the hell just happened, but he knows two things: he wants to kill this Sal guy, and he is very, very pissed at Eddie. He turns to glare at him with eyes cold and angry; unlike himself, Eddie has not relaxed at all.
“Vic…”
“Now who the fuck was that?“
"Vic, I can…”
“Let’s get out of here.” Vic starts circling the table toward Eddie as he gets a few crumpled bills from his pocket, throws them among the beer bottles without trying to count them, then he grabs Eddie by the arm and starts walking fast toward the door.
“Hey!” Eddie yanks his hand away hard, but still matches Vic’s walking pace. “I swear to fucking God, if someone else grabs me again tonight.”
“Oh yeah?” Vic turns to confront Eddie, crowding him, but he still speaks slowly “Is there someone else who’s gonna come take you for a dance, huh? Any other guys I oughta know about?” Vic chest feels like it’s on fire, and he thinks if Eddie gives him any more shit it might be his breaking point tonight.
But Eddie looks back at him like he’s gonna start shooting sparks out of his eyes any moment, “You know very damn well that’s not what I meant, you fucking nutcase,” he walks around Vic out the door and Vic follows behind.
Eddie crosses the parking lot in a few long paces and gets immediately in the passenger seat of the car, closing the door. Vic could get in the car, drive away and act as if that guy didn’t just threaten to kill him and got away with it; it’s probably the best thing he could do, considering he’s still on parole. But he doesn’t move toward the car’s door, instead, he approaches Eddie’s window and gives the glass a light tap. Eddie rolls his eyes as he rolls down the glass.
“What?!”
Vic perches himself on the window, points at Eddie with his finger, “Don’t move, I’ll be right back.”
“Have you ever heard the phrase ‘don’t bring a knife to a gunfight’, you moron?” Eddie’s squinting his eyes like he can’t believe Vic would be so stupid, but he doesn’t take offence, “Get back in the car!”
Vic is already standing up and walking toward the bar.
As soon as he gets in he starts scanning the place methodically, with a sharp look on his eyes as he walks along one wall so he never loses sight of the whole room; the guy is nowhere to be found. He makes his way to the bathrooms and inspects them too, with no luck. He closes a fist in frustration before walking back outside. When the chill night air hits him he takes a slow breath, brings his arms to his hips and gives the parking lot a glance, too; maybe the idiot is staying behind in his car waiting for Vic to break his face.
When Vic sees him he can’t believe his eyes. Sal is perching over Vic’s own Cadillac’s window, his hat hanging from his neck and thrown over his upper back, in the same posture Vic was not five minutes ago, speaking with Eddie and giving his back to the bar’s door. He might be big and good looking, Vic thinks, but the man sure ain’t the sharpest fella.
Vic approaches slowly from behind, stealthily, and when he’s close enough he brings his right hand back, taking impulse for a moment before swinging it forward with full force and an open palm towards Sal’s head; as soon as he comes in contact he grabs the hair and shoves him face first towards the car door. The knock of metal against forehead makes a loud thud.
“Shit!” Eddie pulls back, taken by surprise.
Vic uses the moment of confusion to take Sal’s gun from his holster, then stands back and throws it toward one end of the parking lot over the roofs of the cars; when he turns back around Sal’s already recovering, left fist up in front of his face while he swings the right. A cold punch lands on Vic’s jaw, another on his sternum. He stagers back for a moment, struggling to breath, but regains his balance quickly. He lets out a sigh and grins.
“So you can hit too, huh?”
He takes one step back to gain momentum, then throws himself with full force toward Sal’s waist, knocking him on his back with Vic on top of him. He scrambles up, grabs the man’s hair again and yanks upward, then back down, hitting the crown of his head against the hard pavement. He does it again. Sal grabs his shirt and pushes back, trying to get him off, but Vic’s got him pinned to the ground, resting his full weight on his ribs, the man almost unable to breath. Vic lets go of his hair and throws a punch to the eye, the jaw, the nose, starting to breath heavily himself. For the first time, he’s vaguely aware of Eddie’s amused howling and laughing through the car’s window.
“Heh, he sure didn’t see that comin’,” he taps the door of the car with a pleased grin, “Cmon, that’s enough, you’re gonna kill him.”
But Vic hasn’t had enough. He reaches for the razor in his boot, panting slightly from the strain of the fight, and opens it carefully, then brings the blade to the man’s face, resting it flat on his cheek. Sal’s face is smeared with blood from his nose and the open cuts in his brown and cheek, and he is gasping for air. Vic moves his face closer, his lips almost touching the other’s ear, and he whispers.
“If I ever see you again I’m gonna give your pretty face a fix-up,” he tilts his face sightly sideway to look him in the eye, “You want that, huh?”
Sal shakes his head faintly, keeping his eyes on Vic’s, but he doesn’t speak.
“Yeah, ’s what a thought.” He gives him a last grin and finally gets up, brushing one hand back through his messed up hair; with the other he closes the blade by pressing the blunt edge against one leg.
He walks around the car and gets in the driver’s seat, immediately puts in the key and starts the ignition, then maneuvers out of the parking lot without giving even one last glance to the man still lying on the pavement. Eddie’s giggling dies away as he sees Vic’s livid expression, and Vic’s glad because he doesn’t want Eddie to think for a moment that he’s off the hook.
“You have a lot of explainin’ to do.”
“Yeah, I guess I do, huh…”
As they drive back to the house Vic steals a glance to his right; even in the darkness of the road he can make out the younger man’s frown, his lower lip between his teeth. Vic wonders if Eddie missed him too.

Strangers Pt3
“So tell me what’s been going on,” Captain Walker said as you sat down in front of his desk.
“I’ve only really thought of one guy as suspicious, and then there was the other guy who sent me a message but, we never figured out who he was.”
“We haven’t had anything happen in a few weeks, which is good, but it means he’s either gone somewhere else or he’s lying dormant and waiting for his next victim.”
“I’ve got two guys left, and then I’ll have met with everyone on the list TARU gave me. I really wonder about that anonymous message, though. Did they see if the girls got messages from deleted accounts? Not the same one I got, obviously, because it’s deleted, but it’s worth a shot to look into it, y’know? What if someone’s stalking women who reject them? Or women who they feel have rejected them?”
Walker rubbed his chin in thought and stood up, opening the door to his office. “Alright Sullivan, get back to work. I’ll call you with any updates.”
“Can you see if they’ll check if anyone else has been in my account? It’s the only non-physical stalking I can think of right now. See you later.”
Dominick had asked you out that night, and you needed to appear as least Detective as possible. You went home and changed into a sundress and sandals, trying to enjoy the warmth of May while you could. Plus, your fake job would be ending soon for the summer and you needed to appear as geared up for break as possible. Eventually you’d have to tell him the truth - but of course, not until the investigation was over, and he probably would be angry at you for concealing important parts about your life and.. well, for thinking he was a criminal. Unless, he really was a criminal, and then you wouldn’t need to worry anymore because you’d have done your job. You exhaled loudly and changed your clothes again - jeans, wedge heels, and a flowy but modest top.
When you arrived outside of the bar, he stood waiting for you. You felt terribly under dressed, as he was in one of his normal suits, vest and all, looking as dapper as ever.
“Wow, I look like I came from the slums,” you joked as you gave him a hug and he kissed your cheek.
“Don’t be ridiculous. You look great. Beautiful, like always.”
Your cheeks blushed furiously as he opened the door for you and ushered you inside. It was pretty mellow for a bar anywhere in the city, and you were able to find a booth in a back corner to enjoy your evening. The food was par for the course - burgers, wings, beer, wine. After you both ordered and sat enjoying your first round of drinks, you realized that you felt terrible for lying to him.
“Have.. have you heard,” you began, trying to ease your way into the subject without being too weird. “There’s supposedly a guy in Brooklyn who’s gone out with two different girls and they’ve both been found murdered?”
He arched a brow but didn’t seem too alarmed. “Yeah, I think I heard about that. It’s a shame, really, but don’t feel bad. Every part of the city has their own crime. Brooklyn isn’t the worst. Just means you’ve gotta be careful.”
“Yeah, I guess. It’s just weird that it happened within like two weeks of each other and it’s been almost a month and a half and he hasn’t done anything else.” Try to sound ignorant, you told yourself. Don’t sound like an officer of the law. It was so hard, though. You wanted to be yourself, and you wanted Dominick to like you for who you really were.
“I think I overheard something once - in something not related - that it’s not uncommon for that kind of thing to make someone.. what’s the word..” he trailed off, sipping his beer. “They get anxious. They go into hiding until they get their courage back.”
You nodded and felt your phone vibrate against the table. “I’m so sorry,” you said quickly and picked it up. You glanced at the screen before you tossed it into your bag. It was Captain Walker. He had confirmed the two girls had anonymous messages from deleted profiles - much like you had, too.
“Let’s not talk about murder,” you said with a dismissive laugh; anything to avoid talking about your real work. “I’ve got a whole summer ahead of me to not get killed and I’d like to enjoy it.”
“I wouldn’t let that happen to you, Y/N,” he said, smiling and jovial, but somehow serious at the same time. You believed him, but you didn’t need him to protect you.
“You’re sweet, Dominick. I’m glad we met.”
“So, I gotta ask..” there he was, hesitating again.
“Yeah?”
“How many guys have you met online? Not that it’s any of my business I just need to assess the competition.”
It was your turn to hesitate. “Honestly? You, and like four others. But I haven’t seen any of them beyond the first meeting. One guy actually got mad at me because I told him to move back home if he hated New York so much. Dating is weird, that’s all I know. How about you?”
“Just you,” he lied. You knew he lied, and you were angry immediately that he wouldn’t be forth coming with you, even though you weren’t doing the same for him.
“Really? Just one? That’s hard to believe. I bet you’ve gone out with at least 3,” you retorted. You knew he had planned to meet up with the other two girls, but whether he had or not you didn’t know - you assumed, however.
“Well, okay,” he sighed and finished his beer. “I had plans before, with other women, but they blew me off after we had decided to meet and I never heard from them again. I don’t really know what happened. I assume they met someone else, which is great for them, and I guess great for me too because now I know you.”
Smooth. If only he knew how unlucky those girls had been, maybe he wouldn’t have found it so great. But, it wasn’t your place to tell him - not yet.
“So basically what’s happening is there’s someone making temporary profiles and not adding any information to them, for the sole purpose of letting you, and the other girls know that he’s watching you. For you, it’s not that bad. You’re a trained officer of the law and you can protect yourself, but those girls were clueless.” TARU was back at it again. “Deleted accounts cannot be tracked through the website because of their privacy policy that deletes information related other than the username. Have you gotten anymore?”
You clicked on your inbox again and refreshed it. “Not since this morning around 5.” You turned the laptop around to show the new message.
ticktocktick: You go out and get drunk with a man you barely know and wonder why women get raped and killed all over the world. You’re no better than anyone else, I don’t know why you’re beseeching me to loneliness. You’ll see, soon enough.
“I guess two beers means I’m drunk,” you muttered in annoyance. “Anyway, whoever it is obviously saw me out with my date last night.”
“Who was that?”
“His username is isirac.”
“You’ve been out with him like five times now. Are you sure this is still part of the case?”
You closed your laptop and nearly pinched his fingers in the lid. “Yes, I’m sure. Last night he told me he never met our victims, and that he had planned to, but they just ghosted him.”
He scoffed. “Well at least we know whoever’s following you isn’t doing it because they’re jealous of this other guy, not if your victims never met him.”
“How comforting.” You rolled your eyes and pulled your phone out of your pocket. “Alright, I’ve gotta go. Thanks, again.”
Your phone had been vibrating in your pocket for a while, but you were ignoring it as you made your way back to your desk. Finally, when you looked, you had 4 text messages. 3 from Daniel - Molly’s owner from the park - and one from Dominick.
Daniel: Hey, good morning. I was wondering if you’d like to get together this evening? My work is hosting a little fundraiser and I need a date. :)
Daniel: It’s okay if you can’t or don’t want to, I won’t hold it against you.
Daniel: Ok.. taking that as a no.
Dominick: Good Morning, beautiful. Just making sure you’re alright - you seemed a little worried about that whole Brooklyn thing last night.
After shuffling through the new stack of files on your desk, you opened Daniel’s message back up and rolled your eyes. He wasn’t off your list just yet.
Y: Hey, Daniel! Sorry about that. You know how it goes when you’re in a room full of wild kids. I would love to go with you if you still need a date. Let me know the time and dress.. and address, please. :)
Instead of texting Dominick, you called him. You didn’t know why but you wanted to hear his voice.
“Good morning, handsome.”
“Hey, my favorite girl. How are you?”
“I’m good, I just wanted to let you know I was alive and kicking. Please don’t worry about me. I’m a lot tougher than I look.”
He laughed. “I bet you are. Maybe I just wanted an excuse to text you.”
“Don’t make excuses then, dork. If you want to talk to me, then do it. I promise I’ll always want to talk to you. But, I’ve gotta go. I’ve got a meeting in like five minutes. I’ll talk to you later. Have a good day.”
“Good luck, beautiful.”
That night, per Daniel’s instructions, you had pulled a long black evening gown from the back of your closet, paired it with matching heels, and draped a pashmina over your shoulders. You had to admit you cleaned up well, even more so when you applied your finishing touches to your makeup. Crimson red lips were for special occasions, and this was one of them.
When you arrived at the banquet hall, Daniel greeted you and gave you a quick hug. It was awkward, as you didn’t really know one another - and he was treating this like a real date, not case work. “Wow, Y/N. You’re really beautiful,” he whispered into your ear, before putting his hand on your lower pack and guiding you inside to where the rest of the crowd had gathered.
“You look great, too,” you replied. He took you around to a dozen or so people and introduced you as his date. You feigned interest in their topics of conversation and found yourself bored to tears after only about 30 minutes. It was at that time you realized that Daniel wasn’t at your side anymore - though it was no big loss. You quickly texted him to ask where he had gone, frustrated that it took him nearly ten minutes to reply.
D: I’m near the back exit talking to one of the contributors. I’ll be back up in a moment. Wait for me please.
You groaned at stood by the bar, swirling around what was left of your drink. Who invited someone to an event and ditched them? It didn’t matter. You were ready to go.
“Hey, sorry,” Daniel called out as he approached. He was red in the face and agitated. “Everytime I talk to that guy he makes me feel like I’m a fucking idiot.”
You frowned. “What guy?”
He pointed absently to the back of the banquet hall. “It’s this guy who donates like $75,000 every year and then expects us to spit shine his figurative shoes everytime we see him. I’d rather just not deal with him but he’s one of my clients.”
“I’m sorry. He sounds like an ass.” You stared down into your drink and rolled your eyes.
“He is. Hey, look, I’m sorry,” he said as he placed his hand on your arm. “I’m sorry.” His hands were clammy and you caught a whiff of generic hand soap. Just how mad had this guy made him?
“Daniel, I’m sorry, but I’ve got to go. I’ve got to be at work at  6:30. It’s nearly 10. I’m sorry. Let’s get together again soon, though, okay?” You gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and set your empty glass down, not giving him the chance to object.
It was 2:15 in the morning when your phone blared in your ear. It was Walker’s ringtone.
“Sullivan,” you groaned into the phone.
“It’s Walker. You need to get down here. I’ll text you the address. Get here now.” He hung up.
You scrambled to put your clothes on and snapped your hair into a tight braid. Walker texted you the address as you were holstering your weapon and clipping your shield to your belt. The address sounded familiar but you couldn’t be too sure - it was too early to think.
When you arrived, you parked on the street behind the caution tape and let yourself in the crime scene.
“Ma’am you can’t be back here,” an officer called out.
You flashed your badge and kept going. Walker was up ahead of you, talking to someone you hadn’t seen before.
“Walker.”
“Sullivan, this is Lt. Olivia Benson. Lt. Benson, this is Detective Y/N Sullivan. She’s my best detective.” Walker wasted no time with introductions, as usual.
You shook hands and waited to be briefed. Benson looked around a bit apprehensively, like she was missing someone. “He’ll be here in just a few,” she muttered.
“I’m sorry, who?” You asked.
“Detective Carisi.”
“Alright. I’ll wait.”

2017 Megaman Valentine’s Day Contest: Talent Category Winners and Art (*Image Overload!*)
Sorry for the delay on this again, but you guys definitely made judging this a challenge, with all the awesome entries! And my internet connection cut out last night, so I had a little retyping to do today. ^^;
There were so many Talent submissions, 25, that it alone was pretty much bigger than any amount of total entries I’ve ever received for a whole year’s contest! Thanks for overwhelming me!! ;D
For this category, entitled “Step into this Capsule X...And Receive This Fashionable Formalwear!”, entrants were required to draw at least one couple in their best formal attire, enjoying time together for an anniversary/party/date.
So both for simplicity, and the fact that it wouldn’t be fair or even remotely easy to rank each one, I will just be listing the Top 3 prize winning entries, and follow that with the remaining entries in alphabetical order. Even if you did not place, I am humbled and wowed by the effort you all put into your artwork. Believe me, I enjoyed them all, and so many were deserving of placing! But unfortunately, even with all I’m giving away this year, I can’t give you all something in return, other than my sincere appreciation. And I’m sure you all will love them, too!
This year, judging was done by @annamariacoppi and myself. With her experience as an illustrator/package designer, AnnaMaria brings some  different insight from my own, as I always try to have some added perspective, besides just mine. Commentary from at least one of us on your art will also be seen below.
Each artist’s name will link to a (hopefully) larger version I’ve uploaded, that will work until you guys upload your art on your own pages, followed by their tumblr handle or deviantArt page, if applicable. If a link is broken or I screwed up somewhere, let me know. This was a lot to verify!
Without further ado, here are your winners (who I will contact soon) and the rest of spectacular, snazzily-dressed contest entries:
1.) Kaitlin.EXE (@kaitlinexe) - Zero x Iris, X x Alia, Axl x Pallette:
Tumblr media
AnnaMaria said: Love all the outfits you designed! So much detail went into this! I like how "classic" looking everyone is dressed. It's so different compared to the other entries. Even their hair styles look great. I like how their hair is more shiny than their clothes. You can tell it's a different material quality. Would have liked to see a proper background. Right now I can't really tell where they are.
Miyabi said: In many ways, this piece feels like an X meets Disney sort-of-tale, with the elegant Victorian-era fashion flair. Both the overall intricacies of their clothing, like Zero’s braided booblight tassels (I don’t care if you disagree, that’s what they are!! LOL), to their glammed-up hair, I felt your piece overall had the strongest detail and creativity concerning the theme, which involved formalwear and the celebration of love. And still a touch of humor involved, with Pallette’s clumsiness, most likely as she’s getting used to dancing in heels.
2.) Tabby (@digitallyfanged) - Maverick Party Limo:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AnnaMaria said: I like the lighting you have going on. Feels very glowy, and I can tell it's in the evening. Their outfits are nice. Very elegant looking! I like the movement in the champagne glass in the back a lot! Helps make the scene feel alive. I would have liked to see more detail in the clothing. Since this is a very shadow heavy scene, textures should show up more. That being said, the pattern texture on Sigma's outfit is really nice looking. The other outfits look a bit plain in comparison. Would have loved to see that feather boa fleshed out more. A softer edge around it will help make it look "fluffier". Some more color would help. It's very heavy in the purple and black as it is.
Miyabi said: Those Maverick bosses always have to glow in the dark, don’t they? The fancy digital limo ceiling is fitting for evil robots, while the deep pinks and purples fit the common color theme that links most of them together, besides their penchant for inflicting pain on those Maverick Hunters. The gentlemen look dapper, although paperboy Lumine seems just as uncomfortable in his clothing as he is partying with the squad. I liked how you still kept Ferham and Berkana’s armor motif tied into their dresses. As funny as the bonus Vile image is, I have to imagine he’d rather be popping out the sunroof, with shoulder cannon ready, in his fancy new stretch ride armor! ;p
3.) Iris-Sempi (@iris-sempi) - Zero x Iris, X x Layer, Axl x Marino:
Tumblr media
AnnaMaria said: I really like how this looks it could be strait out of an animation scene. It's got all the right framing for it! The emotion with the colors are really nice. The outfits are nicely done, and I like the perspective in Iris dress. It feel like it's moving! I can clearly tell what's going on, and the story is very strait forward. I think if there was a spotlight above Zero and Iris, that would help put the focus even more on them. I would also move them over a tad more to the left. It would make for a even better composition.
Miyabi said: With all the warm colors towards the upper half of this pic, my eye was definitely drawn to the cooler hues of Iris’ dress. Her shocked look, along with the way it flows, definitely gives me the feeling that Zero has some pretty outstanding SA-class Foxtrot Paso Doble skills. I love the looks of excitement and pride on the faces of the other couples, as the lovebirds hit center stage. Truly, a wonderful scene!
And to keep this from extending too long on your dash, the remaining 22 entries for this category are after the cut...
Continuing with the rest of these fantastic pieces, alphabetically by alias:
 - Archer-Poyochu (@archer-poyochu) - Subaru x Misora:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: While the bright city lights would probably cancel out viewing of the beautiful shooting stars in the sky, it looks like Subaru is showing Misora the more earthly light show on that romantic balcony overlook. Nice touch with her clef hair clip.
- Artistic Sunny (Artistic Sunny) - Enzan x Meiru:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: Cute details on Meiru’s dress, tying in the floral hair clip and pearls with it. Going with the nighttime scene, obviously it should be darker, but the heavier shading on Enzan makes it a little harder to see the details in his outfit. But with arms intertwined, it’s obvious they are both enjoying the night out on the town.
- Bassrocks (@bassrocks) - Prom Dance:
Tumblr media
AnnaMaria said: Really cute! I like the feel of this one! Color choices are nice. The pinks and purples feel very "Valentines". The punch bowl and cup stack are a nice touch. I like the effort that was put into the background, but it could use some perspective work. Anatomy is bit off in some places, but if you work on the perspective a bit, that would help correct it a bit. Would have liked to see more detail in their outfits. I like the accessories you added, but the girl's dresses seem a bit plain. Some clothing construction seams could help.
- Borockman (@borockman) - Zero x Iris (w/ Sigma x Nana):
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: What’s this? Why aren’t Sigma and Nana the stars of this red carpet gala?! It’s probably because of that Willy Wonka outfit. Didn’t rate high with the fashion police. Love trying to make out faces in the crowd, and how they are all enjoying their eyecandy. Both couples look quite elegant!
- Chocoorchid (@chocoorchid) - Zero x Layer:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: A cute closeup, and with the border design, almost reminiscent of a camera’s frame. Pinstripes are a sharp look for Zero, and in fact, I think you’re the only one to try that design in this contest. Just would have liked to see a little more of them in the image!
- CptRedder (cptredder) - Aeolus, Thetis, Atlas and Siarnaq:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: Aeolus isn’t sure if he needs to blow out Atlas’ flame with that rose offering! At the very least, he’s getting a little hot under the collar. I really like the sketchy, splotchy white border around them, it’s a different look. And keeping the pink hues to the shading bounces off the background pretty good.
Creator of Worlds (@thecreatorofworlds) - Anniversary Dance, Complete With Rock and Roll Clothing Changing Capsule .gifs, and Instagram party post:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AnnaMaria said: I appreciate the fake Instagram comments! They were fantastic! I like how the outfits feel, like I could actually go out and sew these myself if I wanted. Shows you know how clothing construction works. The outfit designs are very nice. Not too upper classy, but a good fit for them. The slight glow in the eyes is a nice touch. Would have loved to see a proper background. Right now the characters feel a bit disconnected from the background you have right now. Either the character tones/color should be a bit darker, or the background a bit lighter, so they feel more apart of that world.
Miyabi said: I think it’s awesome that you took the time to create the animated .gifs that had both Rock and Roll changing in the capsule, perfectly echoing the title of this category! Creatively, one of my faves, due to all the little extras that come with your submission. Clean lines and colors, where simple is better and still stands strong. Skull Man is adorable in his bowtie!
- Cuddlesnowy (@cuddlesnowy) - X x Zero:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: Blushin’ buds captured in a moment frozen in time. Cute innocent pic, and the photo frame helps show it was a special pic for both of them. Or that there’s still a Sears portrait studio near Maverick Hunter HQ...LOL
- DarlinHope (@darlinhope) - X x Merti:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: I really dig your painterly style, as it creates a really unique look that stands out. The starry sky seen through the large window behind them is gorgeous! The grey vest/pants combo is a nice muted contrast on the dapper X, compared to the bright yellows and gold of Merti.
- DreamingandGaming (@dreamingandgaming) - Ice Man x Roll, Kalinka x Rock, + Blues:
Tumblr media
AnnaMaria said: Very cute. I like how the outfits are simplified to match the very cartoony style. Would have liked to see some center pieces on the tables, or other decorations to make it feel more like a party.
Miyabi said: Blues is too cool for your dances! I really thought Roll’s heart-shaped dress and all of Kalinka’s frills were unique touches to their dresses. Kalinka’s reminds me of a delicious multi-tier cake with black frosting trim, actually. LOL The Valentine’s fireworks cap off a fun, adorable scene.
- Gingler (gingler) - Swanky Couple Anniversary Dinner Party:
Tumblr media
AnnaMaria said: I like how many characters are in this piece. You've managed to make it look not too cluttered, and I can easily tell what's going on. Each table and dancing couple is telling a different story, and I love that! Some constructive criticism would be to add some proper lighting. There's a light coming from above, yet there aren't any shadows. It makes it feel a little off. However, this is great example of storytelling!
Miyabi said: I really hope a bolo tie impresses Akane...a ninja wearing a western tie, what is this?! ;p I love the doctors just soaking in the evening while their humanized robo-children all intermingle. Enjoy having a few waiters and musical entertainment in the scene, too. You have a unique take on all the RMs, yet they are all pretty recognizable. Also, pimp Wily is pimpin’!
- IrisClou (@iris-clou) - Storm Eagle x Axl:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: Eagle looks so casual suave with his open-buttoned shirt and martini. Both he and Axl can leave the penguin suits for...well, Chill Penguin! Your rainbow hues for the warm background and cool couch are an awesome looking contrast. The colors on this are pretty unique.
- Jewel Maiden (@jewelmaiden) - Dynamo x Layer (w/Zero x Iris):
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: Dat Iris grin! Seems like she had a plan to keep Layer away from Zero. LOL The floral lace pattern of Layer’s dress is gorgeous, and ties in to the mechanical forest background. Dynamo’s space-y tie is pretty neat, too!
- LightLabs (@lightlabs) - Sigma x Sigma’s Reflection (w/Zero x Iris):
Tumblr media
AnnaMaria said: Very funny, but still serious... Nice! This has a nice feel to it. I like your choice of colors a lot. The background looks nice. Would have loved to see more detail in the outfits. I can see a lot in the mirror, but a good chunk is hiding behind the rose.
Miyabi said: I like the dimly lit restaurant scene, and the little details like the heart-shaped chair and Green Biker Dude host. Hilarious giving Sigma those narcissistic qualities, loving himself more than anything else in the world.
- Metakit (@metakit) - Freeze Man x Star Man:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: The background pattern here is pretty unique, and I like how you were able to tie their main colors into it, while still not blending in too much that it takes away from the duo. Freeze in particular gives me a James Bond character vibe in his fancy getup. LOL
- Myan - Gemini Man x Gemini (Wo?)Man:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: Love the movement of Gemini Man taking a dip back! The bottom trim of his shirt coming out also sort of ties into looking like his crystal headpiece, too! Never one to shy from the spotlight, his twin proves that a Gemini can look good in a dress as well.
- Nat-Grim (Nat-grim) - Atlas x Aeolus:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: Rolling out the red carpet, Atlas rocks the V-Day red pantsuit well, while I like the extended tail on Aeolus’ suit, along with his heart-shaped tie. Definitely feels like a gala event photo op!
- Paranoid King Cepheus (@paranoidkingcepheus) - The largest entry ever known to mankind that I can’t even begin to thumbnail on tumblr...so I’ll just crop out this image of Akane dancing with Shadowman.EXE while Top Man spins to the beat:
Tumblr media
Part 1. Part 2. Part 3. Part 4.
Miyabi said: You are insane for once again adding in all the characters that you have! And I love the massive effort! An adorable tale of Jack getting to the dance and so many hijinks and easter eggs in-between, with a very cute ending.
- Prosaic Wonder (@vava-fett) - Anniversary Dance:
Tumblr media
AnnaMaria said: I really like all the characters packed into here! Each one is telling a different story, and a lot of them are actually pretty funny. I especially love the random leg with the high heel sticking out. I also appreciate you trying to match the original art style somewhat. The cell shading is really nice here! Ok, I'm gonna get super picky here. If those are Roll's hands holding up the cellphone taking a picture... They look more like adult hands. Child hands should be a bit more dainty and rounder looking. The style of her nail polish is also a bit "adult/older looking", even a bit out of fashion in style. I would have expected her to wear some glitter polish, perhaps even some fake rhinestones. Yes, this is silly comment, but since this category is focusing on the attires, I felt I had to address it. That being said, I really wish I could see more of their outfits. You did a great job designing so many of them, but all we really see are their heads a bit of their torso.
Miyabi said: I don’t know which I’ll be able get out of my head first: Gemini Man in a feather boa and thong or Top Man’s sexy stocking leg... A lot of fun and amusing interactions between the characters/couples here; I agree that it’s a little unfortunate for most that we can only see their heads, but there is so much to enjoy about your style and all that’s going on in the scene! It’d work as an awesome cover image, for sure!
Soulivium (@su5anlee) - Dark Kirisaki x Iris.EXE:
Tumblr media
AnnaMaria said: I really like the costume design. It's very formal and modern looking! I especially like the lace around the dress, and how they are both wearing purple and red to match each other. Would have loved to see a background.
Miyabi said: Very fancy attire on both. I love the dueling abstract lacy sides to both Iris’ dress and necklace. It’s really gorgeous. The heart-shaped Killer Eye with scythes on top of Kirisaki’s top hat is fun and unique for a character like him to wear.
- Wimzik (@wimzik) - Netto x Food (and also Meiru + Jasmine) + Laika x Pride:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: Typical oblivious Netto, stuffing his face rather than mingling with the ladies! Great job telling a story, showing Meiru’s jealousy over Jasmine’s flirtation, and Laika’s nerves keeping him from leaving Netto’s side. The girls’ dresses are all unique and tailored to their personalities, and I’m amused that Netto felt like a striped tie would double as a fancy headband to make him feel dressed up!
- Wintesm (@wintesm) - Prom Photo Memories Bulletin Board:
Tumblr media
Miyabi said: I love the continuity from last year’s prom entry continuing here, with a photo memory board. And there are still Search Snakes running amok! A lot of cute scenes, although I think I lean heavily towards the 3 on the far right as my favorite ones.
Thanks to all once again! Be proud of what you submitted!
Still working on typing the Humor Category results. They are coming soon, too! *faints from organizing this*
