Might I ask for JayTim featuring businessman Tim and his poor PA who did not know he had a competency kink until he took this job?
For Write 365 Day 348!
Jason rolled his shoulders as he stopped outside the door to the top floor of Drake Industries. He hadn’t met the CEO when he was going through interviews, but he knew he needed this first impression to mean everything if he was going to keep the job. And staying on Mr. Drake’s good side before he could start would be imperative whenever he was left to deal with the organizational mess that would no doubt encompass this job.
He let out a heavy breath and pulled the door open. The secretary looked up at his appearance and pursed her lips into a tight smile. Jason immediately felt his palms start to sweat at the scrutiny and the worry that his secondhand business clothes wouldn’t stack up to the environment around him. He only needed to make it through a few paychecks before he knew he could get something nicer.
“Good morning,” he said, walking up to her. “My name is Jason Todd. I’m Mr. Drake’s new personal assistant.”
She looked him up and down, eyes landing on the ID badge he’d clipped to the collar of his shirt. “I’ll take you to Mr. Drake,” she said, pushing herself from her chair.
They strode past a handful of offices with their doors ajar towards the back of the room. The secretary knocked three times.
“Come in,” a smooth voice announced from inside.
“Good morning, Mr. Drake,” she said, flashing a bright smile as she pushed the door open. “I have your new PA here for you.”
“Ah, perfect. Send him in.”
She stood to the side and waved him in. Jason cleared his throat and stepped past her, freezing for a moment at the slim man who stood from behind the large mahogany desk. His features were smooth and dark hair framed his face as piercing blue eyes and a small smile greeted him.
“Welcome,” he said, stepping around his desk to offer Jason his hand.
Jason shook it and nodded. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Drake.”
He heard the door shut behind him and was suddenly aware that he was alone with his very attractive, new boss in his office.
“Please, call me Tim. It’s nice to meet you Jason. I’ve got a company laptop here with me. This is your personal computer that you can use both here and at home, but I’m not going to require you to be on call at home. You won’t be reading over reports or anything like that. That’s my job and I’m not going to push my work off on you.”
Jason nodded and accepted the smooth, leather laptop case shoved into his hands. He pulled open the zipper and found a sleek computer inside.
“I’ll let you get logged in and familiarize yourself with that in a moment. This is my schedule for the day,” he said, handing a sheet of paper to Jason that listed everything in chronological order on a neat spreadsheet. I really just need you to keep me on task. I can get lost in my work and forget about a meeting and then I have to sprint like a bat out of hell to get to the meeting room.”
“Yes sir,” Jason mumbled.
“Please don’t call me sir,” he said with a laugh. “Far too formal for my tastes.”
Jason nodded.
“Now, I really hate to do this to you,” Tim said, grimacing.
Jason mentally prepared himself for the shoe to drop and bring reality crashing back to him.
“But every now and then I may ask you to get me lunch. You see, I often get so absorbed in my work that I forget to eat or skip lunch altogether. It’s a bad habit that I’ve been trying to break and I just need someone to keep me in check sometimes. Stacy, our secretary, has tried to help where she can but she has her own responsibilities.”
“Okay, yeah,” Jason said, nodding dumbly. “I don’t think that’ll be a problem.”
Tim gave him a grateful smile. “Thank you. Now, go ahead and have a seat on the couch. We can make sure your computer is in working order. You can work in here during the day, but if you’d like your own desk, we can set you up outside my office so you can have your own space. But if you don’t mind, we can try this for now.”
“This is fine,” Jason said, clearing his throat. He sat down on the couch and set Tim’s schedule to the side to put his focus on the computer. Tim walked around the opposite side of the couch and sat next to him.
“Your username is jtodd and your password is jato2429. That will get you into your computer and email. You have your own email account, but I don’t imagine you’ll get much traffic through there besides me and a few internal people wanting to get in touch with me. You will have access to my calendar though. I want to try having a printout for you daily of what’s on my schedule but there might be times I forget and you’ll just need to check the system.”
Jason nodded along as Tim continued to speak, his head spinning at the fact this job was going to be so easy if Tim was this organized. And not just easy, pure heaven considering how attractive Tim was, but he knew he’d have to ignore that every day if he was going to maintain his professional composure.
~~
Jason knocked briefly before he pushed into Tim’s office the next morning. Tim grinned at him when he looked up from his computer.
“Morning, Jason! I’m glad to see I haven’t scared you off after your first day.”
Jason smiled. “Considering how organized you are, I don’t think you could scare me off. I’ve worked for some pretty nightmarish people and I have to say you are a million times better than all of them.”
Tim chuckled and Jason blinked, swearing Tim’s cheeks turned a pale shade of pink. “Well, I’m glad to hear that. I brought some coffee for you, but I’m not sure what you like so I hope it’s okay.”
Jason accepted the small paper cup and took a sip. He tilted his head from side to side and hummed. “It’s not bad, but I will admit that I’m more of a tea drinker than a coffee drinker.”
“Noted,” Tim said. They looked at each other for a minute before they both glanced away. “If you want to get settled on the couch, you can have a look over my schedule for the day,” he said, holding out a couple stapled together sheets of paper.
“Thanks,” Jason said, taking the sheets as he made his way to the couch. He sat down and pulled out his new computer, getting it booted up and logged in.
He was still shocked at the few emails in his inbox and checked that Tim’s schedule matched what he had on the paper. A couple minutes passed before Tim’s typing resumed and they worked in silence.
~~
“I’m exhausted,” Tim muttered once the last board member had left the meeting room and it was just him and Tim. “Jason, take me back to my office so I can get started on the report over this meeting. Do you mind compiling the meeting notes for me and getting those into a PDF to send to the board members?”
“I don’t mind doing that. And I will. But not until later and you’re not going back to your office.”
Tim furrowed his eyebrows and looked at Jason with tired eyes. “What?”
“You’ve been going practically nonstop since this morning and last time I checked it was time for lunch.”
“Just, bring me something, I need to get back to-”
“Nope,” Jason said, taking him by the arm to walk him out of the meeting room and to the elevator. “We’re going to get some lunch. You need a break and there’s nothing better than getting a little sun and food.
“Are you taking me out to lunch?” Tim blurted when they stepped into the elevator.
Jason’s grip spasmed on Tim’s arm and he tried to calm his heart as it took off in his chest.
“If I was?” he asked, clearing his throat.
“I’d be more than a little inclined to say yes.”
Jason bit his lip, ducking his head to hide his smile as they descended to the lobby.

In Which Ashley Unfriends Me On Everything!
So on twitter @slumberlands mentioned she wanted fanfiction of her characters...and since I’m a FUCKING goblin I did it. I’m sorry Ashley please I love you don’t unfollow me lol. Also if you do approve I have plans for other chapters so just a heads up this won’t be the last time possibly lol. Anyways enjoy this trainwreck!
“I’m telling you Stella it was an angel, a violent, sexy angel” Stella sighs as she snips another section of the man’s hair ‘Lee you’re being ridiculous. First angels are not real, second you can’t fall for every guy you see. Especially not some random man who saves you from a mugging” Lee laughs “Told ya Stella it wasn’t a mugging, it COULD have been a mugging, but it wasn’t BECAUSE my angel saved me.” Stella looks up at the mirror, so Lee could see her glaring at him. “You know I don’t have my glasses, right? I can’t see you glaring.” She rolls her eyes going back to cutting his hair “No but you can feel it huh?” They both chuckle as she finishes up his cut. ‘There you go finished, though I really wished you let me cut your bangs.” She ruffles the long hair that covers his left eye. “At least I’m not blonde anymore” They both shiver at those dark times.
Lee slides out the chair standing over Stella by a good foot. “How much Stel?” She shakes her head “Nah this one’s on me. Think of it as payback for dinner last week.” She says as Lee takes out his wallet “Stella I got to pay you something” She shakes her head again “Not a chance, besides you have to get back to work soon.’ They both look at the clock “Fuck you’re right” He roughly pulls out a crumpled 20 and shoves it in the tip jar on Stella’s station “Bye love you!” he shouts as he sprints out using his long legs to his advantage to exit the shop before he can hear Stella complain about the money.
Once a safe distance away he slows down laughing to himself. He lazily walks the city streets looking at the buildings as he makes his way back to the tattoo shop. He stops looking at some bright roses outside a corner florist, they’re a nice contrast against the gray stormy atmosphere of the day. “Should probably get some for Stella as an apology for running out like that” he mutters playing with one of the petals “Maybe after work” he shrugs turning stepping off the curb behind him.
It all happens at once Lee hears a honk a flash of light and somebody grabbing his arm hauling him off the street onto the sidewalk where he falls back right on his ass. “What the hell were you thinking?” a gruff voice almost barks at him as he tries to reorient himself. Lee looks up to see a shorter rather built looking blonde man, Lee looks him over something in his brain almost recognizing him but failing to make that last connection. “Let me repeat myself what in the actual fuck we’re you doing? Do you want to die?” the man stands scowling at him “Uh no s-sorry I just wasn’t paying attention.” Lee nervously chuckles “Wasn’t? Jesus fucking Christ you some kind of idiot?” the mystery man scoffs, Lee furrows his brows standing up “I didn’t ask for your help, it’s appreciated but seriously you don’t get to insult me just because you saved me” Lee brushes himself off catching eyes on a scrapped palm that he prays silently won’t heal and leave another scar. “Whatever man just be careful” the man turns and Lee watches as he heads into the florist shop and gets behind the counter putting on an apron. Lee snorts wondering how such an unpleasant man could work in such a pleasant looking place. He moves forward using the crosswalk this time turning the last corner and heading into work.
“Lee you’re late” he hears almost immediately as soon as he walks in Tatiana, his boss, stands giving him a joking smirk. “Sorry Tatty almost died on the way here, so sorry if that inconveniences your day so much” he laughs “Just get on the phone so Sam can get back to work” Lee nods sliding behind the desk Sam getting up “Died huh? How this time?” She kind of chuckles Lee rolling his eyes at the sarcasm in her tone “I did, I wasn’t looking and almost got hit by a car. Some random guy pulled me off the street before I did.” Lee sits looking at the computer logging in and looking over the calendar. A certain entry catches his eye “Sam why the hell do you have something called Ronnie’s birthday saved for Friday?” Sam looks up from her station “What? Oh right, that’s my friend Ronnie’s birthday” Lee sighs “I got that but why is it in our work calendar?” Lee says exasperated as Sam laughs “Oh Ron’s brother sent me a text reminding me, so I just put it in.”
“Why didn’t you just put it in your phone calendar?” Tatty asks, Sam gives a quizzing look “You know I’m not sure” The eye roll between the two others in the shop is audible. “Relax you know you two should come, you can even bring Ellison, Tat” Tatty looks over at Lee “What day is it?” Lee looks back at the calendar “Uhhh Sunday” he calls back “No can do, that’s our date night.”
“What about you Lee might meet a cute someone to date? Come with me huh?”
“I’ll uh I’ll think about” Lee gives her a polite smile. She goes to say more but is cut off by a customer entering the shop. Lee helps them check in and directs them to Sam who can’t say more as she has to now focus on the girl who’s walked in. Lee turns back looking over the birthday saved in the calendar, he goes to delete it off the work calendar but finds himself hesitating. Something inside him says to write the information down. “Fuck it” he mutters under his breath he takes a post-it note writing down the details before clearing it out. He stares at the note before shoving it in his pocket trying to push it out of his mind for at least today.
The rest of the day is pretty subpar Lee listening to whatever cryptid podcast he has downloaded to drown out the sound of the tattoo guns as he takes appointments or rather waits for people to come and try to make appointments. To be honest he’s probably spent more of the day playing Papa’s Freezeria more than taking appointments just as a way to make time pass faster. Lee peeks over at the clock seeing he has three minutes till the shop closes. He groans internally looking over at his freezeria where all progress will be lost very soon. Nevertheless, he closes the window and starts getting ready to go home when he hears the familiar sound of the door opening, a bell ringing through the shop. Lee groans looking up at the bitch who has the audacity to come in last minute almost literally.
His heart stops seeing the rude blonde man from earlier who while he did save his life was still a royal dick. “Hey, I want to make an appointment” he walks up to the counter and Lee prays he just doesn’t recognize him. “Uh sure do you have an artist in mind?” Lee looks down more thankful now than ever that Stella didn’t cut his bangs. “I need someone who can do a big traditional piece.” He says looking at the art on the wall. “Then you’ll want Tatiana, we can set up a consult appointment on Friday at 3” Lee says looking at the calendar knowing there are earlier dates, but Friday is his day off, best way to minimize contact with this guy. “Yeah that should work” Lee lets out a sigh of relief “Ok and I’ll need a name and a number to contact.” The guy nods giving his number “And your name?” Lee peaks out from his hair curtain as the man stands seeming almost like he’s contemplating telling him his name. “Yeah, it’s Ben, Ben Williams”

Here’s an example of typical planning: bullet journal, essential oils, computer.
One year and 12 days ago, I decided to drop my current planning, return my not-yet received Moleskine annual planner, and dive into the Bullet Journaling system. And, now I won’t look back. The Bullet Journal system is the most inclusive, most flexible, most straightforward way of organizing my life that I have ever used. And, it’s just an idea of how to organize in lists. Thank you Ryder Carroll.
From left: an Escher inspired planner, We’Moon 2005, We’Moon 2006, and for 2006-2007 a $3 academic planner. The latter got me through my wedding and pregnancy!
I have planned things in planners since high school, my first planners being At-a-Glance day planners from the local grocery store, knock offs of Franklin Covey’s system. I later used prettier things with thicker pages, or things that integrated art and moon signs. Eventually, I just dropped into Franklin Covey’s entire system. I used that system for almost ten years, spending around $100 every year updating calendar pages, purchasing new covers (the clearance synthetics I purchased never last longer than a year), rulers, plastic carrying cases, and more. And, then, life shifted.
The largest collection of Franklin Covey planners and various binders used through the years.
Franklin Covey, 2012-2016
I was fired because I questioned my boss on her choices, regularly. And, my wavering self-confidence faltered even more. Every time I looked at the Franklin Covey planners, it reminded me of plans I didn’t have, work I didn’t have, confidence I didn’t have. So, I needed to make a change.
First, I used the Passion Planner. And, then, after six months, I abandoned it. There were many things I liked about the system (size, story, goal focus), but I didn’t stick with it. I had heard good things about Moleskine, so rashly, I purchased their annual diary for $24 and had it shipped to my door. My husband’s review regularity piqued at the back of my mind, so I did a quick search: compare Moleskine’s Calendar to Passion Planner.
What I got was Kara Benz’s review of the Leuchtturm dot grid journal compared to the Moleskine. Immediately, I was struck by her efficient review that hit all the things important to me: how does the paper feel, how does it open up, what’s included in the packaging, and (most importantly) how does the pen react to the paper. She described ghosting, not bleeding, she explained, briefly, her favorite pens used. And, she gave a nod to the bullet journal system. “The bullet what?” I thought. And, I was off on a Google search web that I hadn’t experienced in a very long time.
Ryder’s video didn’t quite cut it for me, but Buzz Feed peeled back more layers, and I was sold.
From left: former sketchbook, current sketchbook, sketchbook journals, and then bullet journals, ending with “regular” journals on the right.
Before I tried to find this Leuchtturm journal, I decided to use what I have. I had some inexpensive sketch journals, purchased several years before, that were blank and awaiting their next use. I finished one journal in two days, and started fresh. This 8.5×5.5 sized journal only lasted two months. This wasn’t going to do, perusing the newly opened art store in my neighborhood, I was shocked to find the Leuchtturm journals, on display, in the front window! I didn’t have to wait for shipping! The beautiful dot grid system, the slight organization (index and page numbers), and the free-flowing pages awaiting whatever I wanted to put on them… I was sold, again. That journal only lasted three months. How could I use a 249 page journal in three months? The next one lasted almost five months, but I didn’t keep up with it like I desired during our summer vacation. And, at that point, I knew I was tired of transferring collections. Luckily, Queen Bee Creations had just created a Traveler’s Notebook that fit my Leuchtturm, and my system is now complete. For the time being.
This is how I Bullet Journal:
Monthly Log – gridded that separates into important notes, all day events, morning, afternoon, and evening.
Weekly Log – I need a week at a glance to see how the pieces fit together.
Daily Logs – repeating and/or amending what was written on the weekly log. This piece is perhaps the most important to me. I do not write ahead very far because I have phone calls, classes, and meetings in which I take notes. And, I can take a lot of notes. One weekend seminar can yield 40 pages written in notes, with barely a thought.
Monthly Trackers – monthly goal setting, planning for events, and other general notes.
In a separate journal, I am holding my collections, I was quickly tired of rewriting them, these in depth things that needed to be added to, not rewritten. Some collections I have include:
Top 10 oil uses
Garden planning
NaNoWriMo tracking – from daily word counts to character sheets
I expect my “collection” journal to last a year or more, and in between I will use between 3-5 journals for daily planning.
What is your favorite way to manage your day?
Here’s a recent example of a day: brush lettering header, bullets of events and to-dos, quick notes on something I want to pay attention to.
Here’s another example of typical planning: bullet journal, essential oils, computer.
More essential tools from left, clockwise: bullet journal, essential oils, computer, tablet, year end planner (Leuchtturm, slim, squared (not dot grid 😦 ), daily planetary guide to watch the planets move.
