WIP Wednesday

I forgot to post last week, because RL, but Space AU is now 55k and about 2/3 finished. I’m using NaNo to hopefully finish by the end of the month, then there will be so much editing. So much.

Here’s a silly excerpt. For context, JL is about 10/11ish years old.

“I thought maybe he’d forgotten how to be happy after all these years,” Yanli said, tapping Wanyin lightly on the chest. “And I’m so proud of you.”

Wanyin blushed and sputtered.

“Huaisang,” she said. “You must tell me your secret.”

Huaisang laughed. “Wanyin would kill me if I told!”

Wanyin turned nearly purple with rage and embarrassment. Huaisang patted his cheek.

“Why is jiu-jiu mad?” Rulan whispered to Zixuan.

Zixuan blushed.

Huaisang looked between Wanyin and Zixuan. Yanli giggled behind her hand.

“Oh,” Rulan said with an authoritative nod. “It’s a sex thing.”

Yanli giggled so hard she snorted twice.

Wanyin looked like he was having a heart attack and so did Zixuan.

Huaisang placed a hand on Rulan’s shoulder and whispered, “Aren’t your parents a bit too young for you to tell them about sex?”

Rulan shrugged and looked at his parents in turn, then whispered back seriously, “I think they already know.”

Yanli snorted again before taking a gasping breath and giggling some more.
