Getting back into comics is fun. Minus the Getting Back Into Comics part of it all
#ramblings of a lunatic#fascinating opinions from everyone. truly every death threat over characterization is in proportion and within reason#sorry just. I've seen things#i think dc tumblr might be one of the only fandoms I've seen where it's equally as toxic as it's twitter counterpart#but on the other hand. funny and pretty drawings <3#I'm generally taking a ''its not that deep unless i feel like it'' approach to comics#not everything needs to be high art and i can excuse work where i maybe don't agree with certain aspects or portrayals#as long as i can find some kind of value in it#which i think you genuinely can in most comics#i think maybe we should all just drink some water. y'know?#anyway i read stargirl: the lost children (was very good! i didn't get most of the golden age refs-#-and also i. didn't know i had to read the sprinbreak special but! besides that! i enjoyed it!-#-todd naucks art is great (i have yj98 stockholm syndrome for it <3) and i like courtney and emiko being friends!-#-also SECRET MENTION WOOOOO GRETA HAYES STANS STAY WINNING(???do we???)#uhhh what else#ooh i read truth & justice no.6 which was a fun story w/ Damian and the batfam!#characterization was off but in a ''we're playing things fast and loose for comedy's sake'' plus they did great work w/ damian#i definitely get why some ppl are sad he's losing some of his surly and more formal edge in his character voice#but i think I'm cool with it tho I'd like if it was maybe casually addressed in story as part of his character development#he's let his guard down. he talks like a shitty teen and not an 18th century warlord now. he's picked up some nightwingisms#he's not crushingly insecure and by consequence violent and vicious anymore#but like again I'd like it acknowledged slightly but that's just me. i at least appreciate all the affection his current writer-#-Joshua Williamson has for damian. like i read adam glass' teen titans run (bad. btw <3) you don't know how comforting this is to me#he called Damian his little babyman on a podcast and i nearly jumped out of my seat thinking ''HES JUST LIKE ME FOR REAL!!!''#he clearly bases most of his work with damian off of tomasi's work with the character which is comforting i think#where was i going with this#anyway yeah. comics tumblr is WILD there is no way you guys are ever getting me to go there full time ever again#once I figure out how to draw dc characters (again... it's been so long) then it's OVER for you bitches

I think the other anon brought up rapists because of the "Jason stans stop supporting the death penalty" post you reblogged. If you rule out dealers/petty criminals, which I've never seen anyone on tumblr say they want Jason to kill unless they were talking about him being a /villain/ again, you're really only left with predators and supervillains as potential people Jason might kill. (And he has been to shown to go after predators in Lost Days, which is what tends to be the favorite Jason comic of people who like pre52 Jason because it showed him having a clear code of killing that mainly targeted predators.) I've still not seen a single person in all my time on here actually say Jason was *good* for being a drug lord in utrh, just that it raised interesting questions in-universe, so posts talking about Jason fans supporting the war on drugs or the death penalty come off as attacking people who have never said he was right for those things or who just want him to kill predators (and in my experience that group is usually victims) or who don't care if he kills supervillains (usually because they're just sick of the same ones showing up again and again).
"i've still not seen a single person in all my time on here actually say Jason was *good* for being a drug lord in utrh" well we have very diff experience with dc comics spaces. i haven't been on here for fandom for long (i have another blog for non media stuff) but i've been on dc comics twitter a couple of years ago and on different batman discord servers throughout the years. and i assure you that there are people who absolutely love the whole red hood persona and everything that comes with it.
"posts talking about Jason fans supporting the war on drugs or the death penalty come off as attacking people who have never said he was right for those things" they genuinely do not, unless you choose to assume that whatever i say is targeted at you specifically, and not at just *some* of his fans that actually explicitly state that they don't see anything wrong with his methods in any area. and if you do decide that it's about you then i can't do anything about it. it's as if i said "dc comics readers stop being excited about tom king claiming he used to be in cia" and you would send me hate saying that it's unfair because you don't care about tom king and you don't like cia and it's probably me who loves cia actually and you haven't seen anyone on here talking about tom king in cia.
and i'm sorry but looking at the dumpster fire that is jason's storyline post his resurrection and selecting one or two plotlines where he actually targets rapists in order to suggest that this is specifically what i don't like about his characterisation is simply malicious, especially that i did say i have nothing against revenge storylines and even jason killing. the problem that i have is mainly his authoritarian position that makes his killing parallel death penalty. and if you agree with me on that, then why come to my blog just to accuse me of other stuff that i have never ever said?
anyway i will be blocking anons who are openly hostile in the way they interpret my posts because that's not i'm here for.

I try not to let the fandom ruin a character for me but it's becoming really hard to appreciate C*ss (censoring her name to avoid getting this being in her main tags) as a character when (some) of her fans are annoying as hell, I sometimes really can't stand them and honestly I'm sorry if I come off as rude, that really wasn't my intention. I've been in this fandom for a while now and while I mostly only really care about Talia and Damian, it seems like I can't avoid seeing C*ss stans being really annoying.
I know it's not all of them, certain character stans are always gonna have bad apples but damn they get on my nerves.
Hi Anon! I have to say, I completely understand where you are coming from. It happens in all fandoms from whatever piece of entertainment. Every time we join a new fandom, we are always going to find people that are really mean and gatekeep-y or people who we just cannot see eye to eye with.
It doesn’t make you rude, at least I don’t think so. One can easily get fed up with people’s narratives when they revolve around bringing other characters down.
I joined this fandom quite late and even though I have been a Dick Grayson and Jason Todd stan for a very long time. Dick was the one that I met first and then Jason. When I found the fandom side of comics, we were already a bit into the Rebirth era of DC, and the fandom was wild.
It was like nothing I have ever seen; it was like the Jason and Dick that I knew didn’t exist, and it was really difficult for me to like any Jason Todd centric blog because they usually came with a horrendous amount of Dick Grayson hate.
I even had a really bad experience with a Dick stan, who acted like Dick’s most distinguishable trait was having a bad temper. It was true that person probably had read more comics than me but them using out of context panels to prove Dick’s bad temper kinda put me off.
I understand now, that they probably were trying to fight the “sunshine and happiness” characterization of Dick, but they still were extremely rude to me and it made me feel bad.
It took me some time to find blogs that made me feel welcome to the fandom and that felt were willing to educate the newies without treating us like we were less.
My advice to you? Mute and block every tag that you feel makes you have a bad time in fandom. And don’t feel bad about muting tags, sometimes it is the best thing that could happen to you.
I grow attached to characters and pieces of media a lot so when something bothers me a lot it can make me anxious. A long time ago I was part of the Supernatural fandom, it is basically my second favourite show, and one ship destroyed my experience of it, whenever I looked it was all about that ship, the show seemed to come second to it. It really made me separate myself from all that and I decided to not only enjoy the show on my own but also, I muted tags and everything involving that ship.
This fandom is the same, granted it doesn’t reach Supernatural Fandom levels of toxic but it does have its moments.
In a way or another fandom is the reason that I kinda hate Tim Drake but I am also not interested in him that much, but I have gotten tired of him and some of his stans in the past quite easily.
I know it is frustrating, but what we have to do is make ourselves look the other way, sometimes all we can do is look away. Maybe some day we will come across a story involving a character that we don’t like (due to fandom) and might find ourselves still enjoying it.
I know there is this ever existing “soft beef” between Jason and Dick stans but I know very little of it because I have taught myself to dodge it.
It is not worth having a bad time here on tumblr (or anywhere else) when we are trying to find people who like the same stories/characters that we do!
I hope your experience in tumblr and fandom in general gets better Anon, I can assure you, once you find bloggers that make you happy even though they might post something you don’t quite agree with, it all gets better!

Hi Morgan, what do you think about this post? I try to support writers on here as much as I can by reblogging but sometimes I forget and it makes me feel bad when I see these posts :/
anon i don't think op is trying to guilt trip you or anything, i think they're more or less stating an actual point that readers have been rebloging and liking posts less and less while demanding more content, which is a big reason as to why a lot of writers have been leaving. instead of thinking of it as a personal attack, you should take the feelings of a lot of writers on here into consideration and try to understand them.
as to the main point, yes i agree with op but i’m pretty much undecided on the rest of it haha
I understand op wanting to distinguish between different types of posts but I don’t think I completely agree with not including prompts/headcanons/drabbles in the x reader tag. Those posts ARE x reader...unless op is saying that the only posts that should be in the x reader tag should be fics but also I've been tagging all of the aforementioned as x reader for years and I've seen them being tagged as so by others for years so I don't quite understand where this idea came from that it shouldn't be. i think there’s more of an issue in ppl mass spamming different character tags on their posts than i think there’s a problem in ppl tagging their nonfics as x reader. i get it means less exposure, but you also can’t really force people to read one’s long fic either whether or not it stays at the top of the tags for long...
but also i think my perspective is pretty much limited as to what the fandom’s general consensus on what tagging should be bc i don’t interact with fandom as much, but the lack of interaction (and yeah i think it’s more of a lack of interaction rather than exposure that’s the problem tbh they’re related but not necessarily correlated) that a lot of long fics receive is a problem and warrants a discussion or two.
I think another reason as to why i’m kinda confused is because I thought 'imagines' and 'x reader' are pretty much synonymous when it comes to tagging reader inserts on tumblr. it’s been so long since i’ve been actively searching for fics in the tags but op could might be referring to the one or two sentence "imagine your favorite character..." blurbs that i've seen floating around here or there. also i've also seen prompts turned into fully fleshed out fics, and headcanons have always been in the x reader tag too so?? 😭 maybe my idea of drabbles/prompts/hcs are different from other people’s who knows
I understand op’s point that a lot of ppl have capitalized on so called ‘short fics’ most of which utilize the following formula: short, usually headcanon-like, and nsfw to gather as much as notes as possible but those are STILL x readers unless op and the fandom want to redefine the entire established x reader tagging system? granted, it’s a good idea but it’s also an idea that not everyone is going to adhere to. just look at how much DC in the tags are unproperly tagged
honestly, i think it’s an injustice that a couple of sentences can get 4K notes while one of the most stunning long fics I've ever read gets maybe 50 but I feel like at this point no amount of complaining and venting is ever going to spur people into reblogging and liking, or even reading the fic. this isn’t me saying that writers don’t deserve to be upset that something they put their heart and soul into isn't getting notes, i just think there’s a fundamental problem with the way ppl interact with fics and take them for granted in general. i’m just resigned atp to cringing every time I see my couple hundred nsfw get more notes any other thing ive written rip
also to me a reader insert has always been a character in of itself. like there is absolutely no way to make a reader so vague so the many people reading it can imagine themselves as the reader. literally just no way. i think the in the end the goal with any reader insert is that your readers can project onto and connect with the mc whether that be their worries or insecurities or joy, etc. i think one of the benefits of writing a reader insert is that it’s more flexible. instead of projecting onto and making a canon character OOC to write them in a ship, you can just write a x reader or even an OC. i personally have never envisioned myself as a reader. to me, the reader is just another character. that’s why ultimately, i believe that everything and anything written in the second person format is a reader insert. that’s the conclusion i came to after spending my time on quizilla, quotev, and lunaescence anyway lolllllll it’s also why i prefer named mc’s when reading reader inserts tbh. i dislike (y/n) because i don’t like inserting my name into anything. i just replace it with some some generic name instead
ANYWAY!!
i definitely rambled in this one, it’s just interesting to see everyone’s perspective on fandom and tagging culture. long fics really do deserve attention and exposure. some ppl write 40k+ words!! for free!!! make sure you let your favorite writers know you appreciate their hard work!! even a few words in the askbox can make their day and it doesn’t even take long. i feel like that’s the least ppl can do!!!
