Potential additions/patch notes for my next edit of SOTSK, 15/10/23:
More detail on the history between Jerod and Nysel's respective fathers -- there's something political there that Matters
Also details/implications on Jamos' relationship with the previous High Lord, primarily that he was something of a surrogate father and much of the guidance he had during his formative years came from him
The sketchy radioactive boxes??? What is that???
Also like. I call magic radioactivity here but it would be cool to bring up the fact that No Actual Uranium Does Exist In This World Too
And the flashback to Jerod and Gevin's fight over one of these...Gevin needs to be a lot more of a potentially threatening character I think (but still remaining on the grey side)
Jerod and Gevin actually steal the pomegranate seeds from their father, who considered it a sacred gift and this adds to their guilt
On that note -- more emphasis on the norms and conventions of their base culture. Jerod feels guilty about all his history with magic not only for the specific reasons that will be obvious to the reader, but also because according to what is normal in their world what he's done is Super Super Bad
Also -- something else to call pomegranates within this world/culture bc it's just. idk it's a long word. i love pomegranates but I don't like their name weird hill to die on I know.
The land experiences "good years" and "bad years", the latter essentially being when magic from the wood's interior is leaking a lot through the rift, and this causes plague, famine, Weird Weather, mysterious animal deaths and Weird Illnesses among other things
And the "good years" are likewise a lot more celebratory
I LOVE the idea of Gevin being "seen" at multiple times when he's not around as a kind of doppelganger by other people, long before he dies and Jerod actually has some experiences with his "ghost"
Also, to mirror this, Jerod sees an apparition of Brenna right before he learns of her death
More Dviric culture/history
Jerod actually sees the rift in the woods when he goes there in winter (after Gevin's funeral), but doesn't understand what it is
All for now!
