Idk if it's just some sort of selection bias on my part but I feel like Mysterious Lotus Casebook fandom has a really high concentration of really good comedic fiction. Part of it is surely that a lot of what I've been reading lately is MLC fic but still. Anyway tipping my hat to MLC fic writers you are all so fucking funny.

#I think it's maybe because the show itself is largely a comedy #in between hitting you with AUGH OOF OUCH PAIN #so the fic balance tends to lean more into the chaos when it's not intentionally being painful #(yes there are also many notable angst fics thank youuuu. I have noticed.) #so it's like. two modes. slapstick and pain #sometimes at the same time tbh #mysterious lotus casebook

ok but yknow what i havent seen many people talk about is the way hammerlock's voice changed between bl2 and bl3.

in bl2 he's just your standard very british guy. he is nice and friendly thats true but his voice basically exists on a scale from happy sounding to posh aloof angry sounding. the most emotional he gets is in the echolog aurelia starts with.

but in bl3 his voice becomes significantly more emotive. he sounds very joyful most of the time but when he doesn't it hits HARD. the echolog when he thought he was dying is absolutely dripping with emotion. the moment when he says "Winny" for the first time and you can hear his anger and worry even though it's 1 fucking word. the way his voice CRACKS in glat ("winny? winny, are you alright?") and he sounds genuinely pained. oof ouch owie my heart

my point being. sir alistair hammerlock met the love of his life and it changed him permanently. wainwright taught him to stop hiding his emotions behind the mask of poshness. augh

(i know gearbox probably didn't intend for it to be read like that but i don't care)
