Lula underscores importance of labor unions in Brazil
Tumblr media
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva Sunday recalled his origins as a labor union leader. During the inauguration of the ABC Metalworkers Union (SMABC) board of directors, the head of state addressed how this organization and others of its kind had helped create the Workers' Party (PT) which eventually led him to his office, “something, until then, impossible.”
Lula also praised SMABC's new leader Moisés Selerges Júnior as a name of weight in the articulations between employers and employees in the sector, which can generate speculation about the possibility of gaining projection in the political sphere.
The president attended the event marking the 64th anniversary of the SMABC and the inauguration of the new management, in São Bernardo do Campo. Also attending were the ministers of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture, Paulo Teixeira, and of Human Rights and Citizenship, Silvio Almeida, in addition to First Lady Janja Lula da Silva, Agencia Brasil reported.
“It was always either intellectuals, bankers, or businessmen, but we are the first experience of working people. And we have the most successful experience in this country,” said Lula.

Tinubu Launches Committee to Review National Minimum Wage
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially inaugurated a 37-member tripartite committee aimed at formulating a new national minimum wage for Nigeria. The inauguration, conducted by Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of the President, who is currently on a private visit to France, marks a crucial step in addressing the nation's wage policies. Chaired by the former head of civil service of the federation, Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji, the committee boasts representatives from various sectors, including the federal government, state government, private sector, and organized labor. Notable federal government members include Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, and Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy. State government representation features governors such as Alhaji Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger State), Sen. Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State), Alh. Umar Dikko Radda (Katsina State), Prof. Charles Soludo (Anambra State), Sen. Ademola Adeleke (Osun State), and Mr. Otu Bassey Edet (Cross River State). The committee also includes members from prominent associations like the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), the Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA), the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (NASME), and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN). Representing organized labor are key figures from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), including Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of NLC, and Comrade (Engr) Festus Osifo, President of TUC. Vice President Shettima urged the committee to leverage collective bargaining in formulating an acceptable recommendation on the new wage policy. The nation eagerly awaits the committee's swift deliberations and recommendations on this critical matter. “Our objective should be to surpass the basic Social Protection Floor for all Nigerian workers, considering the sustainable payment capacity of each tier of government and other employers or businesses. “I express this viewpoint because the minimum wage represents the least amount of compensation an employee should receive for their labour, and as such, it should be rooted in social justice and equity. I hope that the results of your deliberations will be consensual and acceptable to all parties involved,” the President told members of the committee. The news was made public by the Vice President on his social media handle. Read the full article

TDP  Government’s  Pioneering  Efforts  in  Energy  Conservation through  Agriculture  Pump  Programmes
The Union Government and the former TDP Government of Andhra Pradesh have taken a significant step in making the country more energy efficient by launching two new schemes in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The earlier Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the corresponding TDP Political Leaders have launched the National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Programme and National Energy Efficient Fan Programme during the inaugural session of the two-day International workshop on energy-efficient lighting. The schemes will be implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of Public Sector Units under the Ministry of Power.
The National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Programme offers farmers the opportunity to replace their inefficient pumps with new and more energy-efficient BEE star-rated agricultural pump sets. These pumps come with a smart control panel and a SIM card that allows farmers to remotely control the pumps from their mobile phones, adding a level of convenience and ease. Under the governance of Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the former TDP Government and the TDP District Leaders in collaboration with EESL have distributed 200,000 BEE star-rated pump sets to farmers under this programme, which is estimated to result in a 30% energy saving by 2019. This translates to an annual savings of around Rs 20,000 crore in agricultural subsidies and 50 billion units of energy each year.
Under the National Energy Efficient Fan Programme, consumers can purchase BEE 5 Star-rated 50 Watt ceiling fans, which are 30% more energy-efficient than conventional fans that consume 75-80 Watts. Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP Party Leaders encouraged this Programme in Andhra Pradesh because these fans are expected to reduce electricity bills by around Rs. 700-730 per year, with a cost recovery period of fewer than 2 years. The program offers two energy-efficient fans to each consumer at Rs 60 per fan per month on an EMI basis, which will be added to their electricity bills for two years. Consumers can also choose to purchase the fans outright by paying Rs. 1250/-.
During the launch of this event the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu has emphasized the importance of saving energy and the responsibility that comes with it. He highlighted some of the Top TDP Schemes in this direction, such as replacing incandescent bulbs with LED lights after the Hudhud cyclone, which saved 21,000 MW of power and saved the state money. He also mentioned that Andhra Pradesh was the first state in India to adopt over 1.8 crore LED bulbs under the UJALA scheme, which has helped the government save Rs 2.6 crore daily.
Tumblr media
Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu also emphasized Andhra Pradesh's role as a pioneer in adopting energy-efficient programs and stated that the implementation of the National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Programme and the National Energy Efficient Fan Programme will help the state manage its peak demand and become energy sufficient. Know more about such TDP Developments and TDP latest updates through the official TDP website.
The Introduction of this National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Programme and the National Energy Efficient Fan Programme in Andhra Pradesh is a significant step towards making the state more energy-efficient. With the efforts of Shri. Nara Chandrababu and the TDP Party Leaders have made Andhra Pradesh a more sustainable and energy-efficient state.

Irrigation Projects to Maximise Water Supplies
Introduction
In Andhra Pradesh, before 1956, major and medium-sized projects had a combined irrigation potential of 29.73 lakh acres; from 1956 to February 2015, that potential increased to 39.35 lakh acres. Since its beginning until February 2015, Minor Irrigation and APSIDC have produced an irrigation potential of 32.63 lakh acres. As a result, the state's new overall irrigation potential under major, medium, and minor irrigation as well as APSIDC is 101.72 lakh acres.
The major goals of the irrigation department in Andhra Pradesh are to maintain the current projects and develop irrigation potential in upland and draught-prone areas to increase agricultural production per unit of water. To provide relief from the water shortage, the chief minister vowed in 2017 that at least one irrigation project will be launched every three months. The Chief Minister claimed that a team of officials was being dispatched to New Delhi to resolve the Polavaram difficulties, as instructed by Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari, and stressed that the project would not be halted even if the State disagreed with the Central government.

The Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project, India’s first major River Linking Project connecting the rivers Godavari and Krishna, was completed on time. This project created a massive irrigation potential by diverting 80 TMCs of water 174 kilometers to the Krishna River and eventually into water-stressed Rayalaseema. "The government has pledged to finish all of the irrigation projects, which will cost about 43,000 crores. The Purushottapatnam lift irrigation project, which will assist the residents of Vizag and East Godavari districts, is being inaugurated this year" he said.
He further stated that Andhra Pradesh would soon become one of the top states in the nation. He asserted to have convinced the Modi administration to include seven Telangana Mandals in Andhra Pradesh as part of the Polavaram project. During the event, the PM will also inaugurate 600 PM Kisan Samruddhi Kendras (PM-KSK) that will act as a one-stop-shop providing multiple services to the farmers.
