August 3: First Game Bought (This Year.) #RPGaDay2023.
#RPGaDay2023 goes on with the First Game Purchased in 2023. I had the good fortune to back Shadowdark RPG when I had the chance.
I was flat broke at the beginning of 2023. Since then, I have known a small degree of financial prosperity in my life. I have been very happy and grateful for it. I’m definitely hungry for more. The first game I went after as soon as I had the funds to do so way Shadowdark RPG. I was lucky enough to become a late backer on Backerkit. I can’t say enough good things about both the game and its…

Please Support Indie and Third Party Publishers.
What happened to #DnDBeGone? What happened to #Stopthesub? Anyone remember #OpenDnD? "Ooh. Shiny new giants book and the social media influencers say we should buy it." Did we learn nothing in January?
Was January really so long ago? Have we all completely forgotten the Wizards of the Coast Dungeons & Dragons Open Game License debacle of the year 2023 already? Is the D&D community as gullible and stupid as we’re being made out to be? Has 2023 taught us anything? What happened to, “Vote with your dollars?”Sorry, family. I wasn’t going to do this. I tried to convince myself to just stick to…

Fistful of Goblins Review
The OG GM makes a mean Weird West book. CHeck out Fistful of Goblins- a d20 compatible TTRPG. It's how the west was weird.
This is another fine game from Michael Straus- The OG GM. Art by Aaron Cornelius. This product can be found on DriveThruRPG at This Link. Fistful of Goblins is set in one of the strangest of Weird West settings. It’s loosely d20 compatible, meaning it will work with pretty much any d20 roll high system. The Aaron Cornelius art really completes this game in terms of theme and aesthetics. The…

Indie RPG Creator Summit 2024 (Days 1  - 2)
I went to the Indie RPG Creator Summit. It was a good time. I hope they do it again because there was a lot of benefit to new creators.
Goodman Games and BackerKit put on a good show. Despite the initial outcry over representation on social media in December of 2023, the Indie RPG Creator Summit went off without a hitch. (*Disclaimer: I didn’t get to attend every session.) The sessions I attended were very positive, offered good advice, and were very well organized. The presenters were knowledgeable, had great camera presence,…

The Secret of Zir'An
A brief review of Paragon Game's The Secret of Zir'An. It has a lot of depth. GMs from other games might want to take a look.
Made by Paragon Games. Some of the art is okay. The link to this game on DriveThruRPG.com is HERE. The Secret of Zir’An has been around since at least 2005. I have been unable to get the company’s webpage to load so far. Since the game was originally released under White Wolf, I’m not sure if the company is still around. I might dig around and see if I can still find the writers, at least. This…

Fantaji Role Playing Game Review.
Bringing this review to the forefront because looking through Fabula Ultima got me thinking of it. I think it's important to try different game styles and settings.
Bringing this review back in honor of Indie TTRPG Month. Fantaji is a Universal Role Playing Game, much like FATE, Cypher, or GURPS. It is the brainchild of Calvin Johns and his crew at Anthropos games. I purchased my print + digital copies from DriveThruRPG.com many years ago. The Anthropos website also has some nice character sheets, cards, and so on for your game. There’s a quick start set…

One Page RPG Jam 2023 is Underway!
Talking about the One Page Game Jam 2023 on Itch.io hosted by Unknown Dungeon @unknwn_dngn on Twitter. It's going to be a lot of fun and challenging.
This looks like a fun little challenge. Full details can be found on Itch.io HERE. Hosted by Unknown Dungeon. It started July 17th and the last submission is due on August 20th. This year’s theme is Rumors and Secrets. I have to say I’m pretty excited about this. I’m really enjoying these game jam challenges so far. They inspire and encourage a great deal of creativity in the TTRPG…

EZD6 RPG Review Revised.
I made some minor changes and revisions to my EZD6 review. I still completely and utterly recommend this game for a fast, eassy, rules-lite game to run for One-shots and Conventions. Please give it a try.
The easiest rules-lite game you’ll ever love. I haven’t been this impressed with a new RPG since ICRPG came out several years ago. By no coincidence, it’s another game by Runehammer. This company just keeps on putting out the hits.My friend on Twitter, @justinarevolution put me onto this game. Her tastes in RPGs are somewhat similar to mine and her skills as a game master are above and beyond…

The Essence of the Indie.
I've been supporting TTRPG products for around 40+ years now. I've rarely met a game I didn't like. The core rules by small, independent designers are often head and shoulders above the rest in terms of quality.
Further defining what makes a game company independent. This question was posed recently on social media. What is an indie TTRPG? What makes a game independent?A bunch of us chimed in trying to answer this question, and the basic consensus was “anything not owned by a ‘big’ corporation.” Since TTRPGs started as a small cottage industry, and for the most part still is, there are hundreds of indie…
