Goodbye 2020

It’s just past 9.30 PM, so I’m less than 2.5 hours away from a new year, 2021... I have no idea what that year will bring me. (As @veerledejaegers mentioned, it can be basically only get better from here, right? 😬) But for me personally, 2020 has been a year full of suprises. A year full of lows (obviously), but also some signficant highs. One of those happened on Tuesday, 15 September 2020. That’s the idea I joined Tumblr. ☺️

Since then, I’ve been welcomed warmly my most of you. I have learned so much from you. Whether it was about Spanish culture, Islam (or the perspective of a Muslim young woman in particular), the experience of people of colour, about Germany, the 🌈 that is called the sexual spectrum (as well as the various genders people may identify as 💖), or about Belgian schools... But through Tumblr, I also learned a lot more about myself. About who I am as a person, that’s okay to struggle with things. And that other people struggle too. That brings me to my final point of disovery. I thought I already knew a lot about mental health. But you guys have taught many new things about and varities of mental illness, experiences of what than can be like, and –most importantly– methods to improve your mental health.

So, first of all: thank you so much for all of that!!

I’d like to put a few very special people in the spotlight now:

@bekahtheskamfan : Dear Rebekah, you hold a special place in my heart. You were actually my very first follower. (I still don’t exactly to what I owed the honour.. 😳) But thank you so much for believing in the disorganised mess that was my blog. I wish you all kinds of joy and happiness for 2021. Along with some lovely followers like yourself! 😗

@jackredfieldwasmyjacob : Hi Victor! 🙋‍♀️ You welcomed me in the early days of my Tumblr experience. 😌 Thanks so much for that, that meant a lot. (Considering that I was completely clueless in the beginning. 🥲 You made familiar with the concept of the fandom and how that worked.) An equal amount of thanks for your work with @skamesptranslations. That was a livesaver for everyone like me (who don’t speak Spanish 🙃). And I love your posts about Spanish culture. Keep up the good work! 💪

@ayellowcurtain : Dear T. I know the last couple of months have been tough for you. And I hate that so much. So for 2021, I wish you 🌈🌈🌈 & 😀😀😀!! You are so amazing, I hope you can see that. 🙋‍♀️ Only positive vibes for my little 🐨! 💕💕 I hope you can somehow manage to like Druck a little bit again. (Even if it’s not on the tags.. 🤷‍♀️) I will definitely keep up with your posts. 🤗🤗 and 💋💋 from your biggest fan!

@nothesc : Noelia! 😄 We don’t speak as much as we used to. But I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your Damira fic, “the one”. (Note to all: go check it out on ao3!! ☝️) I hope 2021 brings you luck, happiness and creative energy (perhaps for another fanfic I can fangirl over 🙈). 🍀✨

@ghosttotheparty : Dearest Robin! 🇬🇧💗 What a year it’s been, for both of us! (Although your year was probably way worse. 😔) We kind of became each other’s therapist. 😆 But I’m really glad you’re getting the help that you need and deserve. 🙂 I hope to see more from you in the new year. (Just in case you manage to read this far: good for you, it’s “Nacht” by Bazart 👌) Initially, I was just a fan of @chappedandfadedvds , but we bonded over much more than that. (I even became a co-writer, like how did that even happen?? 😹) By now, I’m able to call you my friend. 😺 (The Dutch don’t seem to care about a ban on fireworks, so I’m trying to take shelter. 😿) Anyways, you’re amazing, ily and I wish you so much good for 2021! 😻 I hope we’ll rock it through 2021! 😼 And hopefully, we can meet up one day! 😽
