ok im ranking all the arcs more under the cut heheh
prologue and land of waves arc: everything has already been said about this arc but it is truly a great start of the show laying the foundation of whats to come, the character’s dynamics and their opinions on the ninja worls among other things 9/10
the chunin exams: real shonen shit but i liked it because it introduced the background characters (konoha’s 11) as well as gaara temari and kankuro, a new antagonist show up (orochimaru) and also jiraiya is there.. except for whatever the fuck is wrong with the hyuuga and neji’s demonization.. 8/10
konoha crush: hiruzen and orochimaru battle was.. okay? i wanted them both to die lol anyways.. naruto and gaara’s fight yeah yeah<3 u dont get it naruto literally saved sakura and sasuke and then save gaara from the darkness!!!!!!! for that alone the arc is a 8/10
search for tsunade: MILF INCOMING‼️‼️ honestly i love tsunade and how she sees naruto as her little brother,,, the sannin battle was great too, shoutout to my boy kabuto<3 also the first time the akatsuki show up so yeah a great and complete arc 7/10 (bc of the amount of jiraiya i had to see)
sasuke recovery mission: im gonna be honest i thought it was too long and i hated seeing all the boys about to die, tsunade was so shitty for sending only gennin... i also think kakashi handled the whole sasuke thing badly.. the valle of the end fight was AMAZING like so good i cried like a baby bc i didnt want sasuke to go with orochimaru 8/10
kazekage rescue mission: GOOD SHIT!! naruto is back in town and everyone is so grown up and everyone missed him<3 also gaara my baby <3 new akatsuki members which i really enjoyed. sasori v sakura was THEE fight honestly we were robbed how come that’s sakura’s only big fight🤨 9/10
tenchi bridge reconnaissance mission: TENZO AND SAI EVERYONE CLAPPED!! honestly i love this arc. it really shows how much naruto is willing to do just to defend sasuke’s name from orochimaru, the four tailed naruto is amazing i love him i wanted to see more of him. and although sai is a bit annoying at first he ended up being so protective of his team.. 10/10 just bc of that gay ass sns reunion
hidan and kakuzu: whew this arc has everything the two gayest akatsuki memebers, a guy who licks blood and an immortal dude, team 10 fighting together, naruto training with tenzo, kakashi looking like shit, the rasen shuriken, asuma’s ghost lighting shikamaru’s cigarette everything!! the last good arc 8/10
itachi pursuit mission: orochimaru dead yay... i dont have strong feelings about team taka i like karin but i hate how her character is just being obsessed with sasuke, i could write her better i could fix her. huhhhh i dont really remember much abt this arc but i think it’s pretty boring 6/10
tale of jiraiya the gallant: maybe unpopular opinion but i enjoyed jiraiya battle with pain and the introduction of sennin mode. not much to say i think at that point the akatsuki are still very interesting villians and that fight show us how ruthless they are, especially pain 7/10
battle between brothers: yeah great fight tbhhh the sharingan v sharingan aspect is so cool, i also loved how itachi purged orochimaru from sasuke’s body and i think its the first time we see susano’o and amateratsu.. i dont fuck with the way itachi is “redeemed” or protrayed as a savior i despise it 7/10
pain's assault: pain was so ruthlesss what happened at the end nagato huh? a little stupid speech and u resucitated all of konoha? pathetic. the best parts of this arc are naruto training, his one v one fight with pain where he almost turned into kurama and the him punching minato (and their reunion ofc).. the rest is just okay especially how it was resolved and how konan was just there 7/10
five kage summit: the beginning of the end is here, truly the last arc that doesnt feel like swallowing glass every time u press play. overall i like those samurais, the kages with different abilities and the way naruto and co found out abt what really happened to the uchiha.. sasuke killing hanzo is THEE highlight of the arc, sakura trying to kill him and naruto “i’ll bear all ur hatred” really make this arc a 8/10 despite it all
the fourth shinobi world war (countdown, confrontation, climax): im lumping them all together bc i feel like it was all very underwhelming (except gaara and his speech),,, things get spicy with the white zetsus and edo tensei but its still not the best. gaara v his father and that gay mizukage, and madara showing up and kicking everyone’s asses yeah.. 6/10
birth of the ten-tails' jinchūriki: juubito is the hottest and obito in general tbhh, neji’s death was so unneccesary and him spouting that shit abt how good it feels to give up life for someone else???? kishimoto im outside ur home... nothing remarkable tbhh i hate to say it but the edo hokages, or rather hashirama and minato really made this a go from a three to a 5/10
kaguya otsutsuki strikes: i dont even know where to begin this is the lowest, most anticlimatic conclusion the show could’ve reached... an alien??????? black zetsu???? it feels like the mangaka gave up halfway thru it and it’s only bearble bc the team 7 reunion and sun/moon gay rencarnation sasunaru thingy... the rest NOT GOOD 4/10
sasuke and naruto fight: 😵‍💫😩🤕❤️‍🩹😳😩😢😵‍💫🥺❤️‍🩹😵‍💫🤕😵‍💫😩🤕😵‍💫😢🤕😵‍💫❤️‍🩹🥺😀💖💕❤️❤️‍🩹😵‍💫😢😩😀🥺😢🤕😩🤕💕❤️‍🩹💖❤️❤️‍🩹🤕😩😢❤️‍🩹🤕 nothing more to say 8/10

where danzo got his sharingan (theory)
When it comes to the matter of where exactly Danzo attained the infamous Sharingan that littered his artificial arm, it begs the question: just where did they come from? Or, more specifically, who was the Uchiha who provided Shin Uchiha's genetic basis? I hope to explore this and more in this meta.
A background: What we know
To begin, I think it goes without saying that Shin Uchiha was the one who provided Danzo with his arm graft. Now, something I think can be reliably disproven is the fact that the Sharingan on Danzo's arm weren't harvested from the victims of the Uchiha Clan Massacre. Instead, through Uchiha genetic material, the Sharingan there were from a single genetic source.
Tumblr media
Naruto Gaiden ch. 700+7, Sasuke confirms Shin as the source of Danzo's grafted, Sharingan-riddled arm.
Tumblr media
Shin, with his missing right arm that corresponds exactly with the one Danzo had.
While perhaps it was popular to theorize that the Sharingan on Danzo's arm were harvested from the victims of the Uchiha Massacre, while it's already been proven false, one of the biggest holes in this theory is the fact that Danzo's right arm had been concealed and bandaged before the Uchiha Massacre even started, suggesting that Danzo had such procedures done before it was even suggested or brought to light. That, and Orochimaru had left Konoha before the Massacre had even occurred, at least a handful of years before the likes of Naruto or Sasuke were born (as the Massacre happened when Sasuke was roughly 8 years old). Or, it's strongly suggested they'd left before then.
Tumblr media
Ch. 121, when Orochimaru confirmed their own defection from the village as more than a decade before Part 1.
But, as this would go on, this leads us into our next point.
A background: Danzo & Orochimaru
Tumblr media
Orochimaru when they were a member of Root.
One of the most mysterious facets of the plot is Orochimaru and Danzo's working relationship, and how far it went. While a fairly shadowy time, there are a few concrete absolutes of what Orochimaru used their scientific prowess for in service to Danzo; or rather, what advances were made before Orochimaru's formal defection.
The first, and most notable, was taking Anko Mitarashi on as a student and using her in their experiments, prominently with the Curse Marks.
Tumblr media
Orochimaru insinuating at Anko being their past student during the Forest of Death arc.
Tumblr media
Anko struggling with her own Curse Mark we learn she received long before Sasuke ever attained his.
Tumblr media
Orochimaru, after their revival in the Fourth War arc describing some of the mechanics of their Curse Mark.
One thing significant about the Curse Mark (or, the Curse Seal of Heaven, as it's formally called) is the fact that it had in a one-in-ten success rate, meaning that, while working under Danzo, Orochimaru likely had the jurisdiction to conduct such dubious, fatal experiments with forbidden jutsu despite the casualties incurred. Given Anko's age (24 in Part 1) would've been 13-14 at the time (give or a take a few years from the decade or more since Orochimaru's defection), it meant that Danzo likely authorized them so long as he benefited from the Sannin's experiments. Which leads us to the next point.
Danzo & Orochimaru: An interest in Hashirama
Now given the relational age of students/test subjects like Anko, this leads us to the next most notable. As many people know, the Root agent known as Yamato was also a test subject of Orochimaru's, largely in the twilight years when they became more and more unethical with their experiments. Now, again, here's something to consider:
Tumblr media
Danzo, exhibiting signs of possessing Hashirama's cells during his battle with Sasuke.
Now, as we're given a timeframe for when exactly Orochimaru was a part of Root and doing illicit experiments for Danzo's benefit, this leads us to the next most prominent test subject we're introduced to in Part 2.
Tumblr media
Yamato, around the time of his introduction to manga & Tenchi Bridge mission.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ch. 291, where Orochimaru expounds on the experiments they did with the Shodai's cells.
As we learn on the Tenchi Bridge mission, Yamato possesses Hashirama's cells from experiments conducted by Orochimaru who came across (or was given access to?) Hashirama's body they extracted the First's cells from. Now, taking into account Yamato's age this early on in Part 2 (26), the math there would have to factor in Orochimaru's defection and the time since. So, 26 - 14 (adding an additional 4 to factor in the 3 year interlude period and year-long Part 1) = 12, making Yamato around the same age as Anko (give or take a few years) when Orochimaru was experimenting on their Curse Marks while being a part of Root. Especially since these experiments' test subjects are confirmed to have all been children.
Now, while this might seem like random pieces of information, this will become very important. As we can infer from this alone, Orochimaru had a dedicated interest and access to the bodies of the Founders...
Tumblr media
Orochimaru using Edo Tensei for the first time during the Konoha Crush.
...as evidenced by their debut use of the Edo Tensei kinjutsu that demands genetic samples of the ones being summoned in order to work. Hell, the first time they utilized the Impure World Summoning kinjutsu was to wield Hashirama and Tobirama against Hiruzen.
Orochimaru: Their interest in the Uchiha
Tumblr media
Obito/Tobi on location in the Sharingan lab secreted within his base of operations.
Now, something I think needs clarifying is this: at no point in the manga was it ever confirmed that Orochimaru ever had access to the Sharingan harvested after the Uchiha Massacre. The only one who had, however, was Obito Uchiha as Tobi. In fact, it's strongly insinuated that Danzo likely gave Obito unprecedented access to the victims' bodies and allowed him to harvest all the Sharingan he desired, as seen in the aftermath of Danzo's defeat where Tobi/Obito is shown in his lab with hundreds of Sharingan samples. And the only plausible way it would've been remotely possible was if those Sharingan were from the Massacre's victims.
Tumblr media
The prelude to the Hokage Summit when Tobi outright mentions meeting Danzo before.
This doesn't mean that neither person never coveted the Sharingan's power, however. It simply debunks the notion that any of the Sharingan in Danzo's grafted arm were ever Sharingan belonging to the victims of the Uchiha Massacre. As seen with Shin, the Sharingan were artificially made in a lab from Uchiha genetic samples from an unknown donor (or, unwilling test subject, more likely).
Tumblr media
As stated by Shin himself, he and the other Shin clones were cultivated by Orochimaru, not composed of stolen Sharingan from Massacre victims.
Tumblr media
The Shin clones themselves from Gaiden, all shown with identical Mangekyo Sharingans like the original Shin.
And, of course, Orochimaru had an extremely well-documented covetousness for the Uchiha and their abilities, best evidenced in their interactions with Itachi and Sasuke Uchiha.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During Orochimaru's years in Akatsuki, they attempted to steal Itachi's body shortly after he joined, but lost their hand as a result.
Tumblr media
Orochimaru during one of Sasuke's training sessions before they planned to take his body (mostly) voluntarily as their new host.
However, aside from this vested interest, it can't be overstated enough that Orochimaru is only ever canonly shown targeting living Uchiha, namely Itachi and Sasuke, both which resulted in failure. Regardless of how that interest manifested, what is canon is the fact that Orochimaru only got such power from two sources: the Sharingan they cultivated themself, and the Uchiha survivors they targeted, those being the Uchiha brothers.
Uchiha Shisui: The possible Uchiha donor?
Tumblr media
Ao when he used his Byakugan at the Gokage Summit to confirm that Danzo was not only in possession of Shisui's eye, but that the chakra of his arm matched Shisui's as well.
Now, with the fact that Danzo has reliably proven to have possessed cultivated Sharingan from a single donor, by the looks of it, that donor would've been Uchiha Shisui. However, I doubt this is the case due to the fact that 1) it defies the time period that Orochimaru would've been in the village long enough to collect such samples to create Sharingan imbued in Shin and 2) Danzo is shown with his arm being sealed before he's stated to have ever stolen Shisui's eye for himself.
Tumblr media
Danzo, unveiling his trump card at the start of his battle with Sasuke.
As we can see with this particular panel, a habit Danzo had fallen into was concealing his right, grafted arm and keeping them sealed.
Tumblr media
Hiruzen and the Elders' Council deliberating the possibility of needing to eradicate the Uchiha.
As shown above, Danzo habitually kept his right arm concealed before the Uchiha Massacre even happened. In fact, just panels ago in the same flashback is when Shisui is shown with his right eye missing. In such a consideration, the time between Itachi and Shisui's conversation and Itachi paying witness to the Massacre's deliberation likely wasn't long at all. And certainly not long enough of a time for Danzo to have stolen Shisui's eye and used them as a base for his arm's Sharingan (especially since Danzo has no probable scientific knowhow of the level Orochimaru possessed who had become a missing-nin for years before this point). While his eye certainly is, another consideration to make is that Ao only is capable of recognizing Shisui's chakra that he encountered with his Byakugan before, while never noticing the other Sharingan or Hashirama's DNA (especially since those with Hashirama's cells can be sensed as having them).
Tumblr media
Shisui during his conversation with Itachi just panels before Itachi would meet with Hiruzen and the Elders' Council.
Now, while it's been shown before in the manga that eye transplants can occur with just the right amount of medical knowledge and performed by the recipient (as shown with Madara and Izuna's eyes, and later with Obito transferring Itachi's eyes to Sasuke), it goes without saying that medical and scientific knowledge aren't always synonymous with each other. Much like how Tobirama excelled in the sciences while Hashirama was stated to be an expert with medical ninjutsu, or how that dynamic became true again between Orochimaru and Tsunade as the Sannin, Danzo being able to transfer Shisui's Sharingan for his right eye doesn't mean he possessed the scientific knowledge necessary to cultivate Sharingan from it, timeline disputes and narrow timeframes notwithstanding.
Therefore, I don't think that Shisui's Sharingan provided the basis for the Sharingan in Danzo's arm. There is, however, one last and likely possibility.
Uchiha Madara: The most likely Uchiha donor
Now, while this might seem incredibly farfetched, I have a lot of reason to believe that Madara was the genetic template for the Sharingan in Danzo's arm and Shin Uchiha's body. And I have reasons for this, too.
Madara is the most likely Uchiha, and the one who would've gone unnoticed if his body had been experimented on.
Tumblr media
Madara at the moment of his death, not long before the end of the Third War, approximately.
Tumblr media
When Madara admits to his own status as a "lost" Uchiha.
Now, given the reasons I've stated above, and the fact that Danzo/Orochimaru had access to or knew the locations of graves of the Founders (Hashirama & Tobirama), it gives me reason to believe that they also knew the location of Madara's corpse and were able to procure genetic samples from his body. Given the fact that he was pronounced dead by the shinobi world decades earlier, it leads me to believe that it's entirely likely Madara's body would be the least-risky Uchiha to experiment on that would fly under the radar of the Uchiha Clan who likely wouldn't have ever allowed the village access to their dead clansmen.
It's implied Orochimaru may have experimented on Madara's body before.
Tumblr media
Black Zetsu explaining how he led Kabuto to Madara's corpse to begin with.
Admittedly, this page might seem enough to blow holes in my theory, but I think it's worth noting that 1) Kabuto was never aware of Orochimaru's experiments on Hashirama's body nor 2) that Yamato existed at all (especially when one factors that Kabuto would've been taken under Orochimaru's wing around the time these experiments had been going on at all). What's more, the manga itself does have contradictions of its own with previous plot points being undone or contradicted by later ones, or the story being established by the time the manga was nearing its end (such as the relevance and power of the Uzumaki clan not being noteworthy until the Fourth War).
Madara's body was experimented on once before by Tobirama.
One must also factor in that it wasn't the first time Madara's body had been experimented on to discover the Sharingan's secrets, setting a precedent.
Tumblr media
Ch. 681, after Madara's first death.
Given the fact that Danzo had worked under the Second Hokage before, and because Danzo was likely the one who gave Orochimaru access to Tobirama's kinjutsu and cadaver, it also stands to reason that Tobirama's brutal pragmatism and dehumanizing regard of the Uchiha could have later influenced Danzo's absolutism with the Uchiha Massacre and passed on to Orochimaru (despite the fact that they turned out to be even more pragmatic and level-headed than Tobirama).
But, aside from this precedent of Madara's posthumous availability as a test subject of Uchiha-centric experiments, there's more.
Orochimaru & Kabuto reverse-engineered the theory of the Rinnegan's manifestation long before the Fourth War.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ch. 559, after Madara's debut in the Fourth War.
As this page properly furnishes, something stood out to me: Orochimaru and Kabuto had experimented on the Rinnegan before. Or, more properly, the theory behind how they came into being. A common thread seems to be that older generations were aware of the Sage of Six Paths and the Rinnegan, and given the fact that it's unclear how Jiraiya attained this knowledge, it's probable Orochimaru may have been in the know as well as the Toad Sannin. With all this in mind, it's extremely likely that Orochimaru not only also knew about the Rinnegan, but began synthesizing theories as to how it would manifest in the first place.
Tumblr media
Ch. 559
Given the fact that Orochimaru has found the extremely esoteric before, such as probably locating Ryuchi Cave, one of the legendary sage regions on their own (versus Jiraiya reverse-summoning himself due to affinity with the Toads), the idea of them finding Madara's cadaver and utilizing it in experiments is a likelihood as well.
Closing thoughts
So, while this theory went into a lot more than just what it says on the tin (such as Orochimaru's experiments with the Founders, debunking the Uchiha Massacre victims in Danzo's arm theory, etc.), I hope it was enlightening and possibly opened some eyes!

What is your favorite Naruto volume cover?
Now that is an interesting question. If I were to just name one without mentioning some of the others, I feel like would be doing them a disservice since there are several that I really do like, so I’m going to include several other volume covers that I really like as well, so I suppose I can do a top 10 list. In which case, I’ll start by giving some honourable mentions to…
Volumes 42 and 43
The former because I just really like the peaceful imagery and how well it showcases the student-teacher bond between Naruto and Jiraiya, and the latter because I like the depiction of Sasuke’s struggle and Itachi’s suffering. Their confrontation had been hundreds of chapters in the making, and I feel as though this image very effectively illustrates just what was going on below the surface of all of the animosity that was between them:
Tumblr media
I think it’s also rather fitting that these two are next to each other in my honourable mentions, because not only does one come after the other chronologically, but each volume cover portrays Naruto and Sasuke, the protagonist and deuteragonist respectively, with their second most prominent bond in the story (Jiraiya and Itachi), second only to their bond with each other.
As for the top 10…
10. Volume 54
Because of what it represents and how well the representation is executed - I really enjoyed the fight between Gai and Kisame, as well as Konan’s last hurrah against Obito. Both fights showcased just what great characters Gai, Kisame and Konan were, and it’s a real shame that two of them had to meet their end:
Tumblr media
9. Volume 5
Because this was the image that I kept on seeing once I had truly started to get into the series - The Chuunin Exams arc, so there’s a lot of sentimental value there. Plus, it has the old school Team 7 feels, so I like the nostalgia on display:
Tumblr media
8. Volume 65
Because I love the image of Sasuke confronting the first 4 Hokages - “They who are all-knowing”. I’ve always just really liked the scene of the four of them being gathered there and interrogated by Sasuke, it was… Tense:
Tumblr media
7. Volume 25
Because this volume covered the lead up to the conclusion of the Sasuke Retrieval arc (my favourite arc in the manga) so there’s again some sentimental value there, but I also like how Itachi’s involvement here illustrates the influence his words had on Sasuke’s subsequent outlook and actions:
Tumblr media
6. Volume 61
Because I like how Sasuke and Itachi are shown fighting side by side against a common enemy. They are front and centre because it was the biggest angle happening at the time, but the cover also illustrates Naruto and Obito in opposition to each other, to also depict the secondary feud that was going on:
Tumblr media
5. Volume 64
Because it’s just a really nice image. The Allied Shinobi Forces powered up by Kurama’s chakra while the Ten Tails watches them ominously in the background. Neji in the middle as he was when he saved Naruto and Hinata’s lives while enveloped in a bird-shaped Kurama cloak - symbolic of his “freed bird” motif, while Naruto and Hinata hold hands preparing to do battle together. It’s just nice:
Tumblr media
4. Volume 70
Because this artwork greatly illustrates one of the biggest and most prominent themes in the entire manga - The ongoing sibling rivalry that has spanned generations. Also, Kaguya overlooking the whole thing in the background in that sinister fashion of hers was a clever piece of foreshadowing for the events to come, because she was only introduced at the very end of the volume:
Tumblr media
3. Volume 66
Because of the birth of the New Age of Sannin. I always loved the scene where the 3-Way Deadlock summoning was reborn, and this illustration does it justice. I also like that you can actually see them on the heads of their Summonings:
Tumblr media
2. Volume 53
Because similar to Volume 64, this is just a really nice image. Minato and Kushina holding baby Naruto in their arms is a very beautiful scene, and hits you in the feels when you remember the tragedy that befell them shortly afterwards:
Tumblr media
1. Volume 71
Because of the Team 7 feels, just like Volume 5. Only this time, you can see how far each one of them had come since then. They were each amongst the world’s most powerful shinobi, fighting as a cohesive unit against the single most powerful entity to have ever lived. This volume cover greatly depicts their growth and what was at stake in this final (technically penultimate) confrontation:
Tumblr media
And there you have it, a list of my favourite Naruto volume covers! I have to say that I rather enjoyed answering this one! I considered including more honourable mentions, but I wanted to keep it at just 42 and 43 because of the “fitting” reasons that I gave when talking about them. It was also rather intriguing to go back and have a look at each one of them again. It was like taking a trip down memory lane to not only see how Kishi’s art style had evolved over time, but also to remember all of the arcs that took place, the nostalgia was strong 😁

Tumblr media
So, as a precursor to all of whatever I’m going to end up writing about with Amegakure, I needed to first figure out when exactly things happen -- according to the lenient timeline that is the Naruto canon series. After scouring wiki page after wiki page, I really didn’t find much.  Thankfully, I found this wonderful summary written by a Wattpad user which was very helpful; and although it is not legitimate, what here actually is?? So, with it, I was able to use the age of characters as well as the age some died in order to safely assume the order of events and the time progression between them.  Hence, that’s what you’ll find below ( aka a much more organized version of my scribbles that were in my notebook ).
The first major event is the First Shinobi War during Hashirama’s reign.
20 years following the end of that war, was the Second Shinobi War wherein a majority of the battle was done in lands such as Amegakure, laying them to waste. This is also where the Sannin were introduced, as dubbed such by Hanzo. This was lasted approximately 5 years.
Another 5 years pass before the Third Shinobi War begins, this time lasting for 3 years, and includes the Ame Orphans revolting against Hanzo’s reign.
Following the events that occur, Akatsuki is developed and leads civil unrest -- and eventually civil war -- across the village of Amegakure.  Given by the time that Hanzo was actually killed ( which would have been during the canon chunnin exams ), it mean that that civil war went on for about 12 or 13 years before the village fell completely under the Akatsuki’s rule. From there on, it’s pretty easy.
However, what this also provided me with was enough information to trace back some character’s ages, based on deaths, other characters, etc. in order to firmly find a place where it would be most plausible for Abi to fit in ( and determine what events she would actually be present for in her youth ).
It’s stated that Itachi was born 4 years after the Second Shinobi War, which makes sense since we see him taking care of a newborn Sasuke right after the Third Shinobi War as well as during the Kyuubi attack.
We also know that characters like Team 8 ( Rock Lee, TenTen, Neji ) were born the same year the Third Shinobi War ended.  Hence, it lines up with the same time the Civil War was going on in Amegakure before the chunnin exams, since we see Team 8 compete, when they are around 14 years old, while most characters -- like Naruto -- are 12 years old. We can also look at it as a list like such:
Second War Ends
4 years later, Itachi is born
The next year, the Third War Starts
3 years later, the Third War Ends & civil unrest begins in Ame & Rock Lee is born, for instance
13 years later, Rock Lee with Team 8 compete in the Konohagakure chunnin exams where Amegakure spies are sent and killed & Hanzo and his associates are slaughtered by the Akatsuki, who now take over Amegakure
So, how does Abi and any other events in Amegakure fit into all this nonsense and numbers?
Well, we have some leeway time that Abi could have been born potentially between the same time as Itachi to anywhere in the Civil War period.  Abi’s father, a wandering Kirigakure mercenary/shinobi, was hired by Hanzo ( presumably near the Third War to both protect and eliminate threats to his power, like other powerful nobles or leaders ).  Her mother, originally from an old noble family, was a studying advisory and heir to the family, on a council that sat alongside Hanzo. At some point, she and Abi’s father would have met, and eventually eloped finding her pregnant ( and thus cast out by her family ). Granted, those events could have easily been under a year, I imagine two is sufficient for this knowledge.
From this, Abi could have been born anywhere between the second year or third/last year into the Third Shinobi War. She would have experienced the changing society of the village as she grew up, and left at the height of it ( around 5 years into the Civil War ).          Throughout all of this, the only issue I really have with uncovering this knowledge was the fact that it took nearly 13 years for the Akatsuki to fully overthrow Hanzo and fester civil  unrest. Of course, starting a revolution where your leader is power-hungry isn’t easy, but I think it’s safe to say an uproar of civilians would actually be easy and things could be done in about 5 years or less.   There was also the tidbit about how each of Hanzo’s known associates were murdered by the Akatsuki as well, however I feel that would also have been much easier to do if they were to take them out over the years, causing more tension and unease with Hanzo.  Of course, that’s just my idea and in my head, I believe that a much better ploy to how it all goes, but either way --
You’ve reached the end, congrats! Now watch me as I write about the communism/socialism that rises through the Civil War and Akatsuki and how much Abi actually sees, as well as how her life is effected by this.

DGM Fanworks Initiative, Day 4: AU
After what? 5 weeks? Finally finished!! I’m really pleased with it!
And now, as promised, how they fit into the AU! :
timeline-wise, Kanda, Lavi, and Link are all a couple years older than Itachi, and Allen and Lenalee are about the same age. Timothy is part of the same graduating class as team Guy. Everyone in this picture but Timothy participated in the third shinobi war.
In this picture, Timothy just got his Hitai-ate, and is excited to come and show his big bro Allen that he’s finally a real ninja!! Allen, Lavi, and Lenalee are part of the same team (I can’t decide if their jounin-sensei should be Cross or Bookman), and Kanda was dragged over to hangout by Lenalee. He hasn’t decided if it’s more annoying to deal with Lavi and Moyashi, or his own jounin-sensei and team (Tiedoll and mostly Daisya, Marie is okay). Link is temporarily assigned to Allen, Lavi and Lenalee’s team due to “his own team being split up” (Not Really. He’s actually there to keep an eye on Allen)
which leads to backstories :)
Allen is actually Mana’s son, but was separated just before the war. He was then found by Orochimaru and was one of the children who was unable to be identified after Orochimaru’s experiments were discovered. Because of the snake sannin’s experimentation, Allen now has doujutsu in his left eye that lets him see chakra signatures (essentially a sensor who sees chakra signatures instead of sensing them). He mostly uses fuuma shuriken (or rather, the separated blades of one, held between the fingers of his left hand like a claw) and can manipulate bandages similar to how Rock Lee does on occasion (Clown Belt), but when things get out of hand he uses his giant sword (sword of exorcism, which I meant to put in this picture, but forgot). Allen is now under surveillance due to the recent awakening of his kekkei-genkai, which is known to belong to members of the Noah clan, a clan of shinobi with no ties to any village, known for their capricious alliances and devestation during war time, other than that, they’re a mystery. This is why Link’s watching him. The kekkei-genkai allows him to warp to any location he has been to before, though nowhere near the speed the Yellow Flash accomplished.
Kanda is also a victim of Orochimaru, though he and Allen never met during their captivity (they still don’t know they were both there). Kanda and Alma’s regeneration seals were a product of Orochimaru’s obsession with immortality, an attempt to discover a way to prolong his life. Alma and Kanda’s fight to  the “death” was also Danzo’s inspiration for the introduction of the practice into ROOT. Alma is currently comatose in the Sound Village. Kanda uses mostly kenjutsu (his three swords are each one of mugen’s three forms) though he is also extremely adept at genjutsu. He can also channel chakra through his swords.
Link is a member of the original ROOT, before it was “disbanded” and before the “fight to the death” part of ROOT was introduced. He was assigned to Team Allen-Lavi-Lena by Sarutobi, but he also reports his observations to Danzo. He uses kunai, senbon, his switchblades, and LOTS of exploding tags. He uses a lot of seals in general really.
Lenalee is originally from Sand, but Komui moved them to Konoha when worrying interest was taken in her first generation kekkei-genkai, gravity release, which she uses in combination with her wind-natured chakra (essentially, dark boots as a bloodline limit). She was, at one point, kidnapped for her kekkei-genkai. But she was rescued shortly after by her brother, who, though mostly a research oriented shinobi, can be terrifying with his chakra strings and “komurin” puppets. When Sound eventually attacks Konoha, she takes an interest in their techniques and starts to reverse engineer them and incorporate them into her own abilities.
Lavi is a displaced Uzumaki, as is Cross, and unbeknownst to them, are cousins of Naruto and Kushina respectively. Both posses one half a pair of rinnegan. As the eyes are separated, neither can utilize any of the paths. Lavi has dual-natured fire/lightning chakra, which he usually channels through his hammer, a different nature depending on which side of the hammer makes contact. His large chakra reserves enable him to use several lightning or fire dragon jutsus in a single battle, sometimes combining them. Though he is most known for his flashy fire/lightning jutsus, he is also extremely efficient at close combat with kunai and stealth. He is training under Bookman to enter the intelligence/espionage department, and would like to someday become Konoha’s spymaster.
Timothy is an orphaned Yamanaka, recently assigned to Team Klaud, along with Eaze and Lucia. They often train with Team Fou, consisting of Jan, Leo, and Mei Ling.
I’ve got a ton more stuff thought out for this AU, but this has already gotten really long. I’ll never actually write this AU, but I’ll probably draw more snippets from it in the future. And anyone who’s curious can always send me an ask :)

~Curse Mark~
(Part 4) - (Part 5) - (Part 6)
Contents: -Orochimaru and Kabuto (Chunin Exams: Preliminaries Aftermath)
Orochimaru and Kabuto at the Hospital
“About Sasuke? I’m sorry, I don’t know much about that I’m afraid, but I wouldn’t worry too much.” ‘From here on, it’s up to you Sasuke.’ – Kakashi replying to Sakura’s concern (Episode 51: A Shadow in Darkness: Danger Approaches Sasuke)
Kakashi’s idealism formed around Sasuke’s capability of keeping the curse mark in check is unstable at best, but he’s done all he could physically do since this was about to become a mental challenge for his student to undertake. The overall result rests on the Uchiha’s shoulders, but if needed, Kakashi is there to steer him in the right direction, but there’s little he can accomplish when it’s up to Sasuke to locate where the line of revenge ends. Little is known pertaining to the mark’s capabilities and mounted influence. In turn leaving faith in Sasuke is all he can do.
I personally believe Anko and Sauske should’ve been introduced so she could explain more about who Orochimaru was and his typical intentions (because no one knew his plans at the time) instead of leaving the entire issue a morbid curiosity. She at least has experience with the curse mark and knows her former sensei rather well. It’d prove beneficial for Sasuke to realize someone else understands what he’s battling, trying to maintain a power he’d easily find necessary in the long run. But lacking information only gave more leverage for Orochimaru’s method. Although he originally came for Sasuke after Kakashi sealed the curse mark, his overconfidence got the better of him in that moment, and he didn’t bother attempting it. However, if Kakashi was willing to fight to protect Sasuke, the instance may have turned out differently.
“From now on, each of the Hidden Villages will clash with each other in a long and violent struggle. Even the Sound Village won’t escape that violence. And it’s your intention to be the trigger to that hostility by using Sasuke as a bullet. Isn’t that correct?” “You guess very well. So well that it’s a bit creepy in fact.” – Kabuto and Orochimaru (Episode 51: A Shadow in Darkness: Danger Approaches Sasuke)
This is basically the scene that sets up Orochimaru’s intention without fully stating how he plans to use Sasuke. But we get the general sense of his goal in wanting to bring about an era of war and antagonism among the villages including his own. As we find out later on when he’s fighting against the Third, Orochimaru prefers to be the one to set things in motion, not be on the sidelines. Which may as well have been his downfall considering the aftermath of that battle.
I’ve taken this quote to simply explain what Orochimaru was truly after once the collaborating steps fell into place. By utilizing the power of the Uchiha Clan’s bloodline and kekkei genkai, it would not only be an easy feat to bring about war, but also to learn/collect jutsu as he intended to further his capability and create new ones. We’ve seen the far extent of the sharingan’s proficiency and the continuous evolution, yet there’s more even Orochimaru isn’t aware of that lies dormant within the Uchiha lineage at that moment in time. We know he went after Itachi prior to targeting Sasuke due to him being the elder of the two remaining members and is exceptionally skilled at such a young age. Of course plans changed when Itachi proved too strong, so he set his sights on the younger, more vulnerable brother. Either way, he had his objectives set and stated.
Having Kabuto gather information during the exams provided insight on Sasuke’s preexisting skill set. However, capability with the curse mark was still unknown, which means he was taking a huge gamble when giving it to Sasuke in the first place. He could have died in the struggle and that would’ve left little option for the Sannin to consider.
“The curse mark that was given to him appears to have been sealed by Kakashi, but in any event, that is not my concern. While there is still some darkness left in his heart we must act and that’s why I want you to abduct him.” “It’s unusual for you to act so hastily, is it not?” “Perhaps, but there’s still a little something that’s troubling me. Sasuke is driven by revenge. He’s burning to bring down his older brother, Itachi, for what he did to their family. He won’t rest until he achieves that goal. And yet, when we fought each other even though he knew he couldn’t prevail against me he came at me without any fear of death. I didn’t think he’d be the type of person who’d be in such a hurry to die a meaningless death. According to your information, contact with that Nine Tailed one has altered Sasuke’s heart and mind so much so that Naruto now holds a certain influence over our Sasuke. The thing to do is to get Sasuke away from him immediately because then it will be so easy to make him mine forever.” – Orochimaru and Kabuto (Episode 51: A Shadow in Darkness: Danger Approaches Sasuke)
This part clashes with Orochimaru’s original plan he stated to Kakashi earlier, that sooner or later Sasuke would willingly come to him seeking power. Yet it is shown three times afterwards that Orochimaru is not prepared to take the chance. After Sasuke’s fight against Yoroi and Kakashi sealing the curse mark, he came for purpose of taking Sasuke but ultimately left as stated. Then we reach the point I’m at now where he decides to send Kabuto in to abduct him before outside influences reach Sasuke’s heart and overcome the darkness. And of course later when Orochimaru mentions to the Third that he was going to have Sasuke be taken during the middle of his strike against the Leaf.
Having Kabuto come in to take Sasuke rather than wait it out was all due to Naruto’s presence. Sasuke’s friendship with Naruto is considered, to me, the first and foremost method of saving Sasuke from himself which is known to be true by the end of the series. It’s widely known that Naruto manages to influence and change those he comes in contact with, simply by being his energetic, amiable self. Sasuke was spurred into action to fight Orochimaru in the Forest of Death and in the Preliminaries to tackle the spread of the curse mark purely by Naruto’s words. It’s not difficult to discern a deep level of friendship and rivalry push the two to better themselves. In turn, Orochimaru figured if he removed the source of light, only darkness would remain and eventually cripple the impracticable measures of happiness Sasuke already thought he had to this point (which he truly did gain but was later viewed as a negative). Bonds would morph into a weakness, a limiter holding him back, the anchor to his progression. Although the other two are overlooked, Sakura and Kakashi play their part in this too, but they are mistakenly not seen as noteworthy in Orochimaru’s concerns.
Orochimaru is well attuned to how such people can shift the tide of someone’s mindset. Having been friends with Jiraiya (since Masashi loves his parallels in the core teams) I’m sure he’s felt a similar thing in the past. He also knows the mind in general, being able to anticipate and calculate the way someone will counteract in situations. Like he said above, someone in Sasuke’s position shouldn’t be so willing to toss his life aside to die an aimless death when his focus is on living long enough to kill Itachi. And the Sannin was justified in his thinking due to Sasuke’s initial reluctance to fight in the beginning. However, he saw Naruto’s impact work twice.
He’s worried the darkness/hatred revenge offers isn’t enough to offset Naruto’s ability to change people. Like the whole sun and moon symbolism we see way later on during the war and Orochimaru’s later analysis with Boruto and Mitsuki. It’s clear to him, at that point, that obtaining Sasuke through force is the better solution. Not on lacking trust in the curse mark’s effects, or the seal Kakashi has given him, but on Naruto alone. I’m sure he assumes once Sasuke is away from all those swaying influences and is given the later proposal of power for his life, that he’d take it, having nothing else to lose. Clearly we don’t get to see this unfold or even the time skip in the canon verse, but it’d assumedly be the same result to him.
“I suppose brilliance can sometimes have its disadvantages. We failed to avoid Orochimaru’s watchful eye and it’s most unfortunate for the both of us.” ‘He’s so young, but the seeds of evil have already taken root just waiting to be exploited. He’ll be ripe for Orochimaru’s special ninjutsu.’ – Kabuto speaking to an unconscious Sasuke (Episode 51: A Shadow in Darkness: Danger Approaches Sasuke)
I bet Kabuto was contemplating on killing Sasuke after all, but in the end probably wouldn’t have done so. Knowing what we all know now about Kabuto’s origin and how he came to know Orochimaru, this quote actually makes a lot more sense than reading it will no background information.
Kabuto’s experience in medical ninjutsu and intelligence level was perfectly situated to obtain Orochimaru’s attention. He also felt at a loss when his mother forgot all about him, causing confusion and anger.
He’s taken note of Sasuke’s essential embedded evil that made the curse mark compatible in the first place. Ignoring the fillers later on circling around the Sound Four, I figured well beforehand that some kind of preexisting darkness had to be present within the host body to take on such malevolent chakra. Anko might have had something in her as well that allowed her to survive, but unfortunately we didn’t get any legit background on her time training with Orochimaru (again excluding the fillers).
Now I want to comment about Sasuke’s state during the recovery of receiving the seal. His eyes are covered and it appears as though his breathing is still sporadic due to him being hooked up to a machine. At first I wasn’t sure about the eyes being concealed, but I saw someone else comment (forever ago in a fanfiction author note) that perhaps his sharingan was activating. And I thought it was plausible due to fluctuating chakra control. Like the seal was trying to adjust and manage the curse mark while under duress of the seal, keeping Sasuke in an unconscious state once again.
‘If it turns out that someone as good as him is working for Orochimaru, I’ve got to work harder.’ – Kakashi referring to Kabuto (Episode 51: A Shadow in Darkness: Danger Approaches Sasuke)
This signifies when Kakashi needed to rethink his previous reliance on Sasuke’s will alone. If Orochimaru had powerful allies like Kabuto at his disposal, then anyone of them could be sent to abduct or persuade Sasuke to leave the village at any given moment. Kabuto was able to outwit and take out a group of ANBU, not something a typical ninja can manage. This was the turning point of when Kakashi decided to take more action and work harder to protect his student. In many cases it seems almost lacking on Kakashi’s end, but he has limitations set before him as well. Sasuke’s persistence pertaining to his own need to handle the situation was well received but not so much that Kakashi would leave him alone for extended periods of time. However, once the invasion went south for Orochimaru, Kakashi seemed more relaxed in the idea that no worrisome harm would immediately come.
It’s another reason why he takes to personally train Sasuke for the finals (also knowing he’s going against someone as dangerous and powerful as Gaara). By telling Naruto he had other matters to take care of and that he didn’t have time to deal with him, it wasn’t about playing favorites as Naruto assumed, but Sasuke’s life was at risk. This also implores Kakashi to begin more rigorous training for himself before beginning to train Sasuke once he’s able to leave (or chooses to leave) the hospital.
