#its way more fun that majima trying to fight kiryu so often isnt basically just one-sided harassment from majima

twitter has finally started serving me yakuza tweets, and one of them included this image, which is apparently from the online card game spinoff (???)
Tumblr media
this is so funny to me, majima really says "oh shit my bad" and immediately gives up, we love a "crazy" rival who can still read the room

guess who’s thinkign about rgg? me. so heres an analysis of fighting styles in the series based off of my experiences in sparring/martial arts in general
starting with akiyama. akiyama’s fighting style consists mostly of long-distance kicks, occasionally a few grabs. in my experience, people who rely on their legs in fighting do so very instinctually, basically every person like that i know is either naturally super flexible or has naturally really long legs, and fighting with their legs is really easy and doesn’t take as much effort. i think that fits akiyama a lot bc he doesn’t have any real fighting experience besides maybe the last few years prior to rgg4, but before that he was like a banker or something LOL it makes sense for him to use that, especially tying that into him being a sort of lazy person. if something comes naturally and works, like kicking the shit out of people, he probably wouldn’t try and learn much fighting further than that bc hes just like that. it also fits with how the rgg4 protagonists represent the 4 great spirits; he’s the crane bc at least in my style, techniques that rely on the legs like that r called crane style.
next up is tanimura i dont have a lot to say about him. it makes sense that his style is v judo based because thats really good close range and good for grappling, which makes sense with his field of work. i also think that it fits him v well, hes sort of a slippery kind of guy if that makes sense? like its hard to predict his next move and hes constantly moving just like how he fights. i would say he’s a snake style fighter (preferring grabs and soft targets) which again fits him. hes a little sneaky
saejima my friend saejima :) his is also pretty straightforward like literally. powerful, straightforward movements, more reliance on the upper body, etc. very much tiger style fighting. which. you know. the tattoo LOL  its just fitting. hes a down to earth, simple guy and that reflects in how he fights. its also not super refined which i think comes from him being in prison for 25 years but it also just makes sense. hes blunt and hes powerful enough to get away with it
shinada. i like his fighting style a lot with how its weapons based mostly. i think it plays into how hes very resourceful when he needs to be. also i think its abit similar to akiyama; shinada isn’t a fighter. like he fights, but hes not a criminal or anything like that hes jsut a normal dude. weapons are easier to use than your fists if you don’t know what youre doing and clearly he has a lot of upperbody strength which makes weapons come very natural to somebody like him. also the thing how he refuses to fight with a baseball bat is so funny to me <3
majima. of course theres the whole ‘he fights like that bc hes cRaZy’ but thats boring. i think bc he fights so often it is very very much an extension of himself. hes unpredictable on purpose, and uses that to fuck with people on purpose. at the same time, its evident that he’s really skilled at what he does and isnt afraid to use it. also w the 0 styles its really cool seeing how it all merges together into his mad dog style. i especially love breaker bc it shows how hes genuinely a bit of a goofy dude but still kicks ass. i also think that thug showcases his genuine state really well, guarded, but goes for the soft targets without any of the over dramatic ness (very snake-y). ironically, i would say he is a dragon fighter overall because all of the spins and wide, powerful motions. dragon style fighting can also be very similar to tiger fighting, which i think is fun bc majima and saejima r brother :-]
finally we have kiryu. his styles in 0 are pretty basic street brawling sort of styles, like he literally picks them up from people he sees on the street. brawler especially lacks refine, its very much just kind of raw fighting. but then theres dragon/his default style, which while its very powerful, theres also a lot of skill with it. sort of like saejimas, its very simple and straightforward, but i would argue his is a bit more refined and isnt just straight power. this is definetly him. hes like one of the strongest dudes in tokyo but he doesnt lord it over others, he prefers a very simple life and to stay out of the way of. the everything. but also what i think is funny is that its mostly what i could call tiger style fighting but he is the Dragon of dojima. </3
bonus: this isnt a real analysis i just wanna say that kashiwagis boss fight in 0 is probably based off of karate/shaolin kempo (maybe even northern shaolin specifically) which is fucking cool bc i study (northern) shaolin kempo. made me really happy when i got there. thats all
