Jack Russell has a nose for trouble. Consider his lack of self-preservation instinct as an adult (i.e. himself, a monster, infiltrating a gathering of the world’s best monster hunters) and imagine how much worse it would have been as a teenager. It’s not even that he’s a trouble magnet the way some characters are, trouble doesn’t find him. He finds trouble, whether he’s looking for it or not.  On a related note, he’s got a strong prey drive even as a human (I’m thinking about this tumblr post) and I believe at least 40% of the time Ted needs to rescue him it’s because Whoops Chased Thing I Shouldn’t Have
