some gore (def not as bad as actual canon); spoilers for second half of s10
Jam removed Sly's eye. They took the knife he offered them in trembling hands and plunged it into the hole. (It's funny how so much of the human body are just holes.)
Jam removed Sly's eye. Jam never met Sly, so they couldn't have carved the eye out of his face, but they did. Jam never willingly mutilated a friend. They had never even heard of Sly and then they had a knife in their hands and then and then and then...
Jam never met Sylvester August Baxter. Jam never took a knife and plunged it into a friend's eye because how could they if they had never met Sylvester August Baxter?
They think one of the worst parts was the sound. Sometimes they will be eating out with friends and the wet spongy chewing will get a hold of their brain and refuse to let go and they will have to excuse themself and the others will look after them in worry and all that they will be able to think is: "they have eyes they can look they can see" They will look back at them to reassure them that really, they are fine, they promise, and think: "I know what it would sound like if I took this butter knife, still ironically covered in jam, and wiggled it around in your socket until the eyeball fell out."
It is remarkable how much of the human body is simply an agglomeration of holes.
Like a black tooth, always so close to falling out of its cavities but never committing. Black mole infecting tooth after tooth after tooth with rot until everything is dancing in its socket. Sometimes Jam wishes they could just rip it out. Their eye. Rip out the memories and reminders before it can corrode the rest of their body. (Would it even make that much of a difference? It is remarkable how much of the human body is just holes)
They regret having mentioned their music player. That night that happened but at the same time didn't. They miss listening to WILCO. And Sufjan Stevens.

Welcome to the Bookclub!
Podcast Book Club is a Discord-centric community of podcast fans, creators, and all those that fall somewhere in between.
Three shows—two fiction podcasts and one actual play—are on rotation at any given time, meaning there's always a new podcast to listen to! You can jump in and discuss these shows whenever you like during the show's run, alongside joining in on group listening parties.
SERVER PROJECTS
The Podcast Jam @podcastjam is an event in which participants create the pilot episode of a new fiction podcast, with recording & editing taking place over one weekend.
Coffee Shop Chats, or the "podcast about podcasts," is an interview series with creators in actual play & audio drama, with all questions submitted by server members.

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! ✨
I've never done one of these before, but there's no time like the present, right?
This week, I've been caught between relistening to The Silt Verses and also trying to catch up to the latest episodes of WOE.BEGONE at the same time, so those shows have been on rotation & keeping me company while I'm in the midst of packing to move again soon and/or chipping away at the seemingly endless slew of projects! For the coming week, I've already heard Episode 1 of Wanderer's Journal, but I'm definitely looking forward to a relisten after the show's public release in a couple of days.
In SPACE SPECKS @spacespeckspod news this week, we're finalizing the script for our pilot episode, editing a new show teaser, keeping up with our crew call, and our lovely artist is finishing up some character art for our casting announcements soon!
And in the Podcast Book Club @podcast-bookclub realm, we're celebrating our 1 year anniversary this upcoming weekend with a Marathon event. Alongside this, we've got a trio of new shows about to start in the server, so this is a great time to join in with us.
Tangentially, the end of Podcast Jam @podcastjam is finally on the horizon! We've just passed the halfway point of scriptwriting et al, with the weekend after next being Jam Weekend, where everyone might begin to regret the "edit and record everything within a few days" part of the event. Then it'll be a little over a month from now (May 25!) until those pilots will be publicly available for everyone's ears :)
Have a great week, friends!

Cast announcements for the pilot!
Yesterday (April 6th) marked the start of Podcast Jam 2024 and we are very excited to share the cast we put together!
JustJenah as Annette Culligan!
Jenah (they/them) loves stories in all forms but most especially audio dramas. When they are not actively falling in love with nearly every short lived queer tv show they can get their hands on, you can find them geeking out over their favorite podcasts, attempting to increase their deadlifts over 200lbs, flailing their hands at every jump scare as they play survival horror games, tempting friends to play Settlers of Catan, and grilling up pizzas in all weather.
Jenah’s socials: @ JustJenahHere on twitter and BlueSky @theyofmanyvoices on tumblr
Tumblr media
Cody Heath as Eric Sanders!
Cody (they/them) is your friendly neighborhood non binary voice actor by day, Bassist of Elsewhere! and Photographer also by day!
Cody’s socials: @ codyvmwastaken on twitter @ paperchest on instagram
Tumblr media
Louis Wolf as Finn Culligan!
Louis (he/they) is an avid bird enjoyer and disabled art student who is passionate about storytelling of all forms but has a particular love for DnD and comics. Besides ttrpgs, he’s been known to geek about Superman with encyclopedic knowledge.
Louis’ socials: @louis-dc @ ItsLouis_W on Twitter @ __louis.scott__ on instagram
Tumblr media
Wes Marin as Fisher Culligan!
Wes (they/she/he) is a writer, poet, singer, and student living on the California coast. They’ve been a long time audio drama fan, but this is their first project that’s gotten off the ground. They are a self proclaimed mermaid expert, which is needed for this oceanic project. They dabble in music and singing as well as cosplay and other performance hobbies. They are really excited to share Working Tidal and make new friends along the way!
Wes’ socials: @aplaceinwhichtoswim @ WesMarinB on twitter
Tumblr media
Gem Aydin as Riley Culligan
Gem Aydın (they/them) is an intersectionality lawyer and a human rights activist. As big nerd with academic hearts, they love to learn, explore, and teach in their unique way. Ever since they listened to their first audio drama, they wanted to express their art in this medium and created 400 Words A Horror with friends to learn to make an audio drama. They are not just the voice of Haven in 400WAH but also sound design and co-run the show. Quick to learn and develop, they started auditioning for voice acting. Autistic of many trades, master of ADHD, Gem keeps on looking ways to learn different things and better what they know so far.
Gem’s socials: @gemaydin https://linktr.ee/gemaydin

Tatiana Gefter as Marnie!
Tatiana (she/they) is a PNW native who can be found haunting fiction podcast and ttrpg spaces all over the internet. You may recognize her as the creator and lead voice actress of Soul Operator, a narrative fiction and actual play fusion. You also catch her as Violet Lull in The Department of Variance of Somewhere Ohio, Marigold in season two of Tales from the Fringes of Reality, Helen Hartley in Woe.Begone, and many more places. Project Spotlight #4: The Ichorous Rot
Time for another project spotlight! Today, we're chatting with Sam from The Ichorous Rot.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your teammates!
@spinning-logic: Hey-o, I'm Charlie. I will be voice acting, sound editing, and assisting in some writing for our Podcast Jam entry! My first ever fiction podcast was Welcome to Night Vale (as it is for many, I'm sure), and my current favorite is pretty squarely tied with Malevolent and The Magnus Archives--though I'm truly loving Protocol too. I'm dipping my toes into hearing even more podcasts, like WOE.BEGONE and Old Gods of Appalachia. This is the first Podcast I've ever worked on, and hopefully what I learn from it will lead to creating more!
@moookar: Hi hi hello, I’m Mooo! I’m voice acting and writing. I’ve never worked on a podcast before TIR, but boy oh boy do I have lots of experience listening: WOE.BEGONE, Malevolent, and The Grotto are some of my current favorites, and I got started listening with The Magnus Archives and Dimension 20. Most of all, I’m just a fan of any speculative fiction I can get my hands on.
@gooboogy: I'm G! I do the music and some of the voice acting for The Ichorous Rot. I've been listening to audiobooks for ages and I listened to The Adventure Zone but only really started listening to audio dramas about a year ago with The Magnus Archives and Malevolent. It's not until I listened to WOE.BEGONE that I considered doing one myself! I don't have a fav podcast, but I have some fav characters such as Lucas Miller, Elias Bouchard, Kayne, and Ty Betteridge respectively. My fav genre is when Shit Gets Weird and I love it best when there's fucked up little blorbos :3
@fluxoid: Hey there! I'm Niall! I'll be doing some of the voice work for the Ichorous Rot. I've been listening to audio drama (and actual play) podcasts for over a decade now, starting with Welcome to Night Vale (of course). Current favorites are probably WOE.BEGONE and Midst, though I'm listening to many more. This is my first foray into the creative side of things and I'm excited to see where it goes!
@falloutcoys: Hello, I'm Sam! I'll be co-writing for The Ichorous Rot. I got started listening to WTNV in 2014 but really got into audio dramas when I picked up TMA in 2021. My current favorite pods have to be Midst,Not Quite Dead and WOE.BEGONE! This will be the first show I'm involved being published, but I'm writing my own passion project as well (@aboardtheichthyoid).
What's your podcast about?
Our project is set in 1880s West Virginia. Dr. Theodore Yates as he's overwhelmed in his duties as Janesville’s only doctor by a mysterious illness spreading through the town. We follow him through a combination of his own medical notes recorded on a wax cylinder, and snippets of audio following him and his best friend Alonzo as he tries to find a way to resolve The Ichorous Rot. It's a mystery that explores the effects of working class life and generational trauma through a supernatural lens.
What are you most excited about in this event?
This event has been such a great learning opportunity and way to collaborate with others! Everyone has had great ideas and we're able to bounce off each other and flesh out the story together, which is a really unique experience.
Any advice for other participants, or those on the fence about joining?
If you've been on the fence about joining, go for it! This is a really fun experience and it has the lowest possible stakes. Worst case scenario, you've met some great people and learned about producing a podcast. Best case scenario, you make an episode you're really proud of that grows into something much bigger.
While this team is no longer looking for new members, you can follow their project here on Tumblr @theichorousrot. Additionally, with a couple days left to sign up, there's still time to join the fun and work on a Podcast Jam project yourself - find out more information here!

people in the woe.begone universe have no fear what they put on their podcasts. Mike just straight up confesses to multiple murders in season 1 and Jam used their real name in their first episode which basically went "my job at the government black site would kill me if I mentioned any of this. anyway time travel is real lol"

Today is Bandcamp Friday, which means that Bandcamp doesn't take a cut of album sales today. To celebrate, I am releasing Cowboys, a collection of the most rootin' tootin' country, western, bluegrass, and folk songs from WOE.BEGONE. The tracklist includes songs from the jukebox at the Sidewinder Saloon, character ballads from the show about Sly, Michael, Outlaw Ty, and Cowboy Jam, the song that Texas Michael plays in the Outpost Tavern Bar & Grill, and many more.
The album is $5 on Bandcamp and is also available to $5+ patrons, both as a full album stream and in the form of Bandcamp download codes. Be sure to check out the other Bandcamp offerings: the soundtrack albums, the vocal album I Have Been To The Future, and the beattape The American Bison.
Stay safe out there, pilgrim.

do you think matt is a gamer
YES matt is absolutely a gamer but the most important thing is that he's terrible at it lol. give him anything more complicated than minecraft and he gets stuck a few levels in before he hits his skill limit and has to make one of his friends (usually mike) help him.
actuallyyyy i think an au where matt is a decently popular twitch streamer would be so fun because his entire gimmick as a creator is that he's awful, and his chat encourages it by directing him the wrong way in games, redeeming various channel point goals that make gameplay harder, etc.
when he starts getting more involved with base, he tells stories about woe.begone/+ base missions and, naturally, nobody believes him (though a conspiracy did go around when 357a blew up, until obv shut that down pretty quickly) and he gets a rep online for being the guy that just makes up outlandish stories during his streams. edgar hates that he does that, mike mostly thinks it's funny, but generally they figure it's not really doing any harm.
every once in awhile, he manages to convince a few of the base folks to join in his content, usually in the form of playing first-person shooters with jam (who is miles better than him), minecraft with ty (he hadn't expected him to say yes when he asked, but it ends up being his most popular game as ty manages to make even matt look like he's good at video games), guitar hero with chance and shadow, and, just once, five nights at freddy's with michael (michael refused to play with him again after he kept getting jumpscared, until matt offered that they try red dead)

-- > should've at least listened til ep 67? tho brief mention of spoilers for s10 also
If you asked any O.V.E.R. employee what they thought about Hunter Jeremiah Hartley, the most common answer would probably be friendly. Welcoming. Warm. Simply a very nice dude.
Jam would tell you about the time they lost their childhood dog and Hunter Jeremiah Hartley comforted them, even though they barely knew each other. Ryan would tell you about how Hunter was the only one to not keep speculating about his relationship with Chris behind their back, and said Chris would let out a tired sigh and nod in angreement.
(Marissa would go into a tirade about how she deserved to get the Tier 2 spot instead of him. Maybe you should not ask Marissa.)
So when Hunter Jeremiah Hartley first met Mike Walters, he was friendly, welcoming, warm and simply a very nice dude - like he always is. Mike was neither of those things, since he still believed he could somehow "win" woe.begone. Poor thing wasn't even aware of the Flinchites or the Security System or, well, anything. It is almost comical in hindsight, almost as much as it is tragic.
Like most security guards in a top secret facility, Mike Walters is not exactly...social. If you asked any O.V.E.R. employee what they thought about Mikey Walters, the most common answer would probably be prickly. Or maybe that new dude that keeps reappearing with increasingly worrisome injuries. Or that guy that always looks like he is about to have a mental breakdown and hasn't slept in a week. Or, most probable, that one unlucky dude who got mauled by a bear and miraculously survived. Gay employees would probably also follow that last remark up with a joke in rather bad taste.
And yet, they still hit it off.
Hunter Jeremiah Hartley became Mike Walters's best friend, and Mike Walters became Hunter Jeremiah Hartley's.
(When Mike is around Hunter Jeremiah Hartley, he almost feels comfortable, something he didn't think he would ever feel again ever since he started that wretched game.)
Hunter was the first person Mike called on his cabin phone. (Or well, he was actually the second. But his intention HAD been to call Hunter, so he doesn't count the misdial.) Hunter was the gateway to Mike's social life in O.V.E.R. Without Hunter, Mike and Chris and Ryan mostly stewed in awkward silence or painful smalltalk.
Hunter is the type of guy you just feel like you can trust. He and Mike talk about movies and the patch of grass that looked kind of suspicious on their patrol route yesterday or increasingly ridiculous theories about what O.V.E.R. is really hiding.
(Both will become fully aware of what that really is, one day, but it is still fun to "guess". In the future, when they will be openly walking around in Tier 2 or even 3, they will sometimes think about those stupid conversations again and have to remind themselves that they are enemies. Traitors. Evil.)
Hunter will tell Mike about the entire life story he invented for the last spider he set free instead of killing and they will both ignore each other's very suspicious behavior. True friendship.
It is also not uncommon for Mike and Hunter to visit each other's cabins.
It is a night like any other when Mike Walters knocks on Hunter's door in the middle of the night. Hunter is wearing gray sweatpants and an Old Brush Valley 24h Diner shirt. It is a bit odd that Mike should appear without any warning or plans, but it is not uncommon either. Hunter opens the door. He and Mike Walters are best friends, after all.
The man that enters the cabin is not the Mike Walters that Hunter knows and loves.
In another timeline Mike will sneak into Tier 2. In another timeline, he will accidentally transport Edgar into the middle of the Pacific Ocean and call Hunter in a state of panic. And Hunter will want to help, of course he will, he is Hunter after all. Hunter and Mike may not be best friends anymore - a distance growing between them that neither can bridge nor stop - but they still care deeply for each other. In this other timeline, Hunter will live, and Hunter will kill everyone.
But this is not that timeline. And so Hunter Jeremiah Hartley is killed by a stranger wearing his best friend's face, in the knowledge that he would will have had going to murder Marissa and Charlie and Edgar and Chris and Ryan. (But not Mike, not his best friend.) (His acquaintance? His former friend? His... enemy?)
In yet another timeline Hunter dies in a white room with no doors and no windows. Alone.
It is hard to believe, but Hunter and Mike used to be best friends.
