The Hidden Gems of Kenya That Wait for Exploration
On the edges and far outside of Nairobi lie the shrouded pearls of Kenya. They merit a unique spot throughout the entire existence of Kenya for their incomparable excellence and unparalleled otherworldliness. Being a part of Kenya safari tours you can explore and enjoy these places.
Nyahururu
Nyahururu is a 240-km drive from Nairobi. It is one of the spots in Kenya in ideal concordance with nature. Around 2km outside Nyahururu town lies the delightful Ewaso Narok River. On this river on patches of indigenous timberland on the open savanna grounds lies the world-celebrated Thomsons falls. The falls of the Thomsons dive 74m down the precipice on the Ewaso Narok River. A Scottish geologist and naturalist named Joseph Thomson when he strolled from Mombasa right to Lake Victoria found it in 1883.
Nanyuki
The delightful town of Nanyuki with its wide road lies in the lower regions of Mount Kenya. It was a humming commercial center with an extending populace managing a wide range of business and exchange. Indeed, even today, Nanyuki, the last highland before sliding into the northern fields, does, holds the colonial soul.
Tumblr media
Tsavo
A historical site for more than 100 years, the entire Tsavo West was at one time a savanna that transformed into a forest after some time. Tsavo Park is multiple times greater than Mara assumed its job in the Kenyan political field as well. After the autonomy of Kenya, the Kilaguni Lodge was the main site with a phone number outside Nairobi. Called the red telephone, which was the immediate line between the State House and some other spot. Jomo Kenyatta drove down to Kilaguni now and again, for a presidential break. There is even an image of him looking towards the waterhole from the Kilaguni Lodge.
The Rift Valley
Extending from Mozambique to the Dead Sea, this is one of the best valleys on earth. A 3,700-mile separation point it has everything, from delightful lakes and shocking slopes to taking off volcanoes. Lake Turkana, in the Northern Plains of the Rift Valley, is a 250-kilometer long freshwater lake and its predominance among the seven principal lakes in the Rift Valley area is not something that you can miss during Kenya safari tours– it is the world's biggest lasting desert lake. In any case, the Jade Sea is remote, and arriving is only the tip of the experience ice shelf.
Mount Kenya
Africa's second-most elevated mountain with a rise of 3,825 meters, Mount Kenya is 90 miles from Nairobi and is an extraordinary case of why the nation is so different in its landscape. From the snow top of the wiped-out crater of lava and down through its valleys, ice sheets, and mineral springs to the base, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a shocking spot to appreciate, with strolling and climbing trails accessible during Kenya safari tours.
Tumblr media
Serengeti Plains
Do not simply depend on David Attenborough for the fantastic wildebeest migration see it for yourself. The Serengeti Plains are perfect for this. Common with Tanzania, you will get the opportunity to meet the acclaimed, well-disposed Masai clans and appreciate seeing different feelings of pride of lions. This is an all-year goal and Africa's most popular park.
The Masai People
A cultural encounter that you can have during Kenya safari tours is having a visit to the villages of the Masai tribe. These semi-itinerant individuals have turned out known to the world over through photographs of Kenya and the Serengeti. Communicating in English and Swahili they have an unmistakable dress and traditions. Their capacity to cultivate in the scrublands has been applauded by foundations and the hopping custom they have is relentlessly great. Wearing their conventional red, they are intriguing individuals yet enormously oversold to travelers.
Are you thinking about how it is possible to have such visits and tours in Kenya? The best way is to be with Bigzone Tours & Safaris. They have the knowledge and experience to organize the best safari tours in Kenya. Call +254 720 888 940 to talk to their safari specialist.

The Maasai, The authentic people of Kenya
Tumblr media
Maasai: the authentic people of Kenya - a tourist favorite   We are online-Maasai Men "It takes one day to destroy a house; to build  a new house will take months and perhaps years. If we abandon our way of life to construct a new one, it will take thousands of years", Maasai belief. The Maasai tribe is the most authentic ethnic  tribe of Kenya. The Maasai tribe (or Masai) is a unique and popular tribe due to their long preserved culture. Despite education, civilization and western cultural influences, the Maasai people have clung to their traditional way of life, making them a symbol of Kenyan culture.   Maasai, Kenyan Heritage Maasai's distinctive culture, dress style and strategic territory along the game parks of Kenya and Tanzania have made them one of East Africa's most internationally famous tourist attractions.. Maasais speak Maa, a Nilotic ethnic language from their origin in the Nile region of North Africa. History of the Maasai Tribe It is thought that the Maasai's ancestors originated in North Africa, migrating south along the Nile Valley and arriving in Northern Kenya in the middle of the 15th century. They continued southward, conquering all of the tribes in their path, extending through the Rift Valley and arriving in Tanzania at the end of 19th century. As they migrated, they attacked their neighbors and raided cattle. By the end of their journey, the Maasai had taken over almost all of the land in the Rift Valley as well as the adjacent land from Mount Marsabit to Dodoma, where they settled to graze their cattle.   Maasai Culture The Amboseli National Park, Nairobi National Park, Masai Mara Game Reserve, Samburu, Lake Nakuru, and Tsavo National Parks in Kenya and the Manyara, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Serengeti parks in Tanzania all stand on what was once the territory of the Maasai tribe. Today, the Maasai people live on a smaller piece of land in the Kajiado and Narok districts, surrounded by these now Kenya's fine game reserves. Many practice nomadic pastoralism, while others have been absorbed into modern day jobs working in tourism where they showcase their culture to visiting tourists. Maasai Women dancing   Maasai Culture The warrior is of great importance as a source of pride in the Maasai culture. To be a Maasai is to be born into one of the world's last great warrior cultures. From boyhood to adulthood, young Maasai boys begin to learn the responsibilities of being a man (helder) and a warrior. The role of a warrior is to protect their animals from human and animal predators, to build kraals (Maasai homes) and to provide security to their families.   Maasai Initiation Through rituals and ceremonies, including circumcision, Maasai boys are guided and mentored by their fathers and other elders on how to become a warrior. Although they still live their carefree lives as boys - raiding cattle, chasing young girls, and game hunting - a Maasai boy must also learn all of the cultural practices, customary laws and responsibilities he'll require as an elder. An elaborate ceremony - Eunoto - is usually performed to "graduate" the young man from their moran and carefree lifestyle to that of a warrior. Beginning life as a warrior means a young man can now settle down and start a family, acquire cattle and become a responsible elder. In his late years, the middle-aged warrior will be elevated to a senior and more responsible elder during the Olng'eshere ceremony. Maasai children enter into a system of "age-sets" with peers where various life stages, such as circumcision, are marked with ritual and ceremonies. At the age of 14, girls are initiated into adulthood through an official circumcision ceremony known as Emorata.   Maasai Initiates Presently, the female circumcision ritual is outlawed in Kenya and its use is diminishing from the Maasai women's culture. Young Maasai girls are still taught other functional roles like how to build houses, make beadwork, and cook and clean their homes, by their mothers and older women. When they come of age, their parents "book" a warrior from a respectable clan as an appropriate husband for their daughter. Maasai Homes Since the Maasai lead a semi-nomadic life, their houses are loosely constructed and semi-permanent. They are usually small, circular houses built by the women using mud, grass, wood and cow-dung. The men build the fences and sheds for the animals.   Maasai Home built by women Maasai and their cattle The Maasai tribe has a deep, almost sacred, relationship with cattle. They are guided by a strong belief that God created cattle especially for them and that they are the sole custodians of all the cattle on earth. This bond has led them into a nomadic way of life following patterns of rainfall over vast land in search of food and water for their large herds of cattle. The Maasai tribe measures wealth by the number of cattle and children one has.   Maasai Worrior grazing Maasai clothes, dressing and beauty Though they traditionally dressed in animal skins, Maasai woman with beaded jewelry - everyday Maasai dresstoday, typical Maasai dress consists of red sheets, (shuka), wrapped around the body and loads of beaded jewelry placed around the neck and arms. These are worn by both men and women and may vary in color depending on the occasion. Ear piercing and the stretching of earlobes are also part of Maasai beauty, and both men and women wear metal hoops on their stretched earlobes. Women shave their heads and remove two middle teeth on the lower jaw (for oral delivery of traditional medicine). The Maasai often walk barefooted or wear simple sandals made of cow hide. Maasai food All of the Maasai's needs for food are met by their cattle. They eat the meat, drink the milk and, on occasion, drink the blood. Bulls, oxen and lambs are slaughtered for meat on special occasions and for ceremonies. The by-products of the animals - skin and hides - are used as bedding while cow dung is used for building (it is smeared on the walls). The Maasai's entire way of life truly revolves around their cattle.   Maasai drinking blood Maasai cultural tours Kenya's safari tours enable both visiting tourists and native Kenyans to enjoy the country's wildlife, while also exploring the Maasai's rich cultural heritage by visiting their homes and attending Maasai cultural shows. These tours are held in Kenya's game reserves, in particular, the Masai Mara National reserve. The tours also provide an ideal opportunity for participants to take part in the Maasai dance and buy traditional Maasai jewelry, art and crafts to take home as souvenirs.   Maasai Cultural tours http://bit.ly/29Nz4R9 http://bit.ly/29zXM7f http://bit.ly/29fNQwI http://bit.ly/29qcw8I To enjoy and experience this Kenyan heritage, Contact us on offers or Connect with us on Social Media for more information. Bourbon in His Eyes
The monster stumbled a few steps, “Goddamn—” he sputtered and drew his hand to his jaw. Magnum grazed his fingers over the rough, chipped edges of bone, and snapped his head up at the large insectoid.
Narok lowered his body, the outline of his mandibles opening and closing with loud, chittering clicks that almost sounded like a laugh; he could only see his eyes in the dark, shining like four glass spheres. He didn’t know why he tried. They were far pass talking at this point, and Narok never gave the impression of someone who’d come quietly.
Blue, luminescent fluid dripped from the skeleton’s chin. He pushed himself off of the brick wall and rolled his aching shoulder back with a single crack. The grin he had was terrible, roguish, as he raised a hand and conjured a burst of light and magic that crackled between the two.
The other monster rattled violently, scraping his claws across the bricks like a mad bull before lunging, his fangs bared, and then—
“You look horrible.”
Slamming his glass on the counter a bit harder than he meant to, Victor winced, “That’s what I like to hear. Y’know, always could depend on you.”
“You know what I mean.” Louis narrowed his…sockets, leaning in closer after a quick look over the shoulder to whisper, “Could you, please, not act like you’re in just another bar? Any other time there wouldn’t be a problem, but Dnias—”
“Paps, it’s fine. This isn’t my first time.” Despite the pain, Victor forced a slight smile. There were still cracks spider webbed over his jaw, and thin strands of magic ran across the hairline breaches from his chin to the flat of the bone. It’d heal within the next week or two, but it still hurt like hell. “You’re with a professional.”
Louis sighed; he didn’t seem convinced.
Motioning for a refill and a drink for his brother, Victor slid a glass of absinthe to the younger skeleton. “Relax,” he continued, “this is just an in and out job. Most that’s gonna happen is we’ll be sitting here for an hour or two waiting on the boss…and then you know what? We go home. Nothing bad ever goes down at these old money soirees, they got their people manning the doors, their helps at every corner—dance, enjoy the music, enjoy yourself. We don’t get many of these, so take it while you can, you’ll thank me later. Trust me on this.”
The younger skeleton seemed a bit disappointed, but nodded nevertheless. This wasn’t what he wanted, but safe was what he was going to get for a while. His shoulders slumped a little, and he made no move to reach for the absinthe.
“Listen, I get it. Yeah? We all start somewhere…give it some time.”
“Yes, I know…and I trust you.” The words were nearly pulled from his teeth, but a smile twitched on Louis’ skull. He stared at the absinthe for a second and slowly began to slide out of his chair. “…but don’t count on me drinking that.”
Louis had decided to linger closer to the musicians, where a number of people danced and there were clusters of groups forming and disbanding rapidly. Now and again the older skeleton would glance his way, and also up towards the tall white marble staircase that lead to what he assumed to be the study. No one had gone near the room since Dnias and the master of the house had entered, not even the butler who kept a cold hawk’s eye over the whole livings space at the corner of the room. And so, Magnum continued to slowly drink, in hopes that the alcohol would dull the pain in his jaw.

Tough times ahead as inflation on steep rise
Tumblr media
Inflation might hit an all-time high of 11 per cent as a result of the prolonged drought earlier in the year, the Parliamentary Budget Office has warned, signalling tough times for Kenyans already reeling under high cost of living. Last month, inflation reached a 19-month high of 6.58 per cent, eroding the purchasing power of consumers who now need an additional Sh658 to buy a basket of goods that last year cost Sh10,000. FORMAL JOBS The grim report also comes against the backdrop of the data released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), which indicated only 78,400 new formal jobs were created in the economy last year, compared to 114,400 in 2017. This was the slowest pace of formal job growth since 2012, when the economy churned out 75,000 official jobs. “The economic growth projection of 6.2 per cent for 2019 appears to be premised on weak fundamentals,” warns the document titled ‘Unpacking the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for 2019/20 and the Medium Term’. The document, prepared by the Parliamentary Budget Office, notes that the Treasury pegged the 2019 economic growth projections on stable weather despite the already “very apparent poor performance of the March-April-May long rains season”. It also hinged its 2019/2020 budget growth forecast of 6.2 per cent on a single digit inflation of 5 percent. “Given a much delayed onset of the long rains, the amount of rainfall for most parts of the country is currently below 55 per cent of what is normally experienced. According to forecasts, the rains are likely to peter out by end of May 2019 and most of the country will receive below average rainfall by end of the season,” the document reads. VIRULENT STRAIN The delayed rains adversely affected the planting season and a below-average rainfall performance is likely to result in lower food production, inadequate fodder for livestock and inadequate water and electricity supply, presenting significant challenges in terms of the food and inflation outlook. The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (Kalro) has also recently expressed fears of a worsening invasion of armyworms because of the scarcity of rains, which creates a thriving environment for the pests. The worms were responsible for the fall in maize production by about five million bags in 2017. The fall armyworm, a virulent strain that devastates acres of land in no time, has already been reported in Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Narok, Busia, Kisumu, West Pokot and Elgeyo-Marakwet counties. “There is a likelihood of higher inflation on account of food scarcity and higher electricity prices, reduced income for the majority of rural dwellers who rely on income from agricultural activities, reduced agro-processing output and a possible widening of the current account deficit due to reduced agricultural exports. If the current trend persists, inflation is likely to reach 11 per cent by close of December 2019,” the budget office warns. The document also blames a weak global economic outlook for a possible downturn. Coffee and tea — two of Kenya’s most important experts — are already fetching lower prices in the commodity market. DIM VIEW Kenya recently inked a lucrative deal to export its avocados to China. The budget office now warns such deals maybe in jeopardy. “The ongoing trade tensions between the United States and China may not augur well for Kenyan commodity exports to China and the US, which are key inputs for either Chinese exports to US markets or US exports to China, especially if these products are targets for trade wars between the two countries,” the document reads. Despite its lower performance compared to other countries and government’s lip service to it, agriculture’s contribution to Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has continued to rise since 2013, hitting a high of 1.35 last year, which represented 21 per cent of the overall growth of the GDP. The other 10 sectors — real estate, transport and storage, construction, education, finance and insurance, manufacturing, information and communication, wholesale and retail trade, mining and quarrying as well as accommodation and food service — shared out the remaining 79. The budget office also holds a dim view of the implementation of the Big Four agenda sectors of agriculture, manufacturing, housing and health, warning the Sh450 billion allocated to them may not be sufficient. Seeing our exceptional young men thrive and commit to excelling is one of our greatest joys. Telling them they can, and will, make it out there is something they keep hearing and holding onto. However, faith, hope and belief doesn't amount to anything unless we're willing to offer tangible opportunities. 3 nights ago, 21-year-old Jake, from Nakuru Town, called and asked that we send his ICT training certificate and recommendation letter. Jake needs to continue his computer studies as well as a temporary job that will enable him to successfully reintegrate back to his family and the community. Do you run a computer school or can provide a job opportunity in Nakuru or Mau Narok? Kindly get in touch. Thank you in advance.
