Chip and Gil's devotion to one another. Man. Holy FUCK.
Gillion RACING to Chip. Heart stopping as he realizes that this is this last fucking chance. Blah blah something something the parallels in this scene to 108 the one where Chip died where Gillion was coming up from breaking those people out of the dungeons with most of his spell slots missing, moving as fast as he can to get through for his friends, and JUST as he makes it, JUST AS HE GETS THERE, he finds Chip dying. Dead. Gone. And there's nothing he can do.
TO THIS. HE CANT BE LATE AGAIN. HE NEEDS TO SAVE CHIP THIS TIME.
Gillion at the sealed doors, Chip screaming bloody murder inside, using his bloodied, broken, damned fingers to claw at the ice, to do anything in his power to get through, to make it this time, for fuck's sake, just let him make it in time. Bursting into the room at last with zero regard for his own health ON DEATH'S FUCKING DOOR, blood covering his arms, his whole body really, skin missing, debilitating wounds everywhere. He begs Jay to save Chip over his own life.
Chip following Gillion no questions asked, despite the many red flags, because he's just so fucking relieved that his Gil is alive and okay and safe and by his side again, so when Gill asks him to take him to see the leviathan, it may be a little annoying and a little dangerous, but maybe he's secretly pleased to have a moment alone. To relish his life. Because this PROVES that it's his Gil and that everything will be okay!
Until he wasn't his Gil. Until he almost killed him again. And even then, Chip couldn't bring himself to deal lethal damage. Even then, he still begs Jay to save Gillion over his own life.
And they argue over which one of them is more divine. Which one deserved to be saved more, because each unwaveringly believes in the other with absolutely rock solid TENACITY (cough cough rock solid is a nod to desire island cough cough).
And they argue over which one of them is more divine. Which one deserved to be saved more, because each unwaveringly believes in the other with absolutely rock solid TENACITY (cough cough rock solid is a nod to desire island cough cough).
But it couldn't be one or the other. It has to be both. They don't cancel out, they add together.

Episode 114 Spoilers Under the Cut
Don’t mind me getting emotional over Doppelgilly again… He was made to lure them in, to get rid of the intruders, but he had some of Gillion’s memories. He still viewed Chip and Jay as his friends, but he simply couldn’t prioritize them over his Mission. He wanted to be a Hero. He was made to follow his Destiny. He was just doing his job.
There was a person under there, I am certain of it, but because of the narrative, he never got a chance to grow. He was mentally broken down and ripped from the world for his soul to float in the void, eternally forgotten, body cast aside on the deck of a ship thoughtlessly for something to be concerned about Later.
All because of some unlucky draws from that damned deck.
Perhaps this was his destiny. Perhaps all he could ever be was an obstacle in the trio’s way, a useful tool that they were able to use by chance get rid of the most dangerous card still left in that deck.
He was doomed from the start, a budding narrative snuffed out within the span of an hour.
Logistically, I respect the council’s decision, having to deal with two different Gillion’s would be a technical nightmare for the campaign.
However, I will still miss him. Doppelgilly is my boy. I’ve grown attached to a character who was never intended to be allowed to live.

okay no wait actually the moment in 114 where gillion gets downed again standing next to chip and death ward kicks in like imagining that from chips perspective? horrifying
like, consider-
you think your best friend is dead, but then hes alive and fine and youre so relieved you dont even care about the discrepencies,
and then hes not your best friend and oh gods your best friend might actually be dead because you didnt know to look for him,
and then your best friend is there for real this time but he looks awful he looks a foot in the grave he looks like hes going to keel over any second but hes alive and hes still fighting for you,
and then he gets hit and for one awful horrifying soul-wrenching moment you feel him stumble, crumple, grab your shoulder as he goes down and
hes dead hes dead hes dead hes dead-
but he never hits the floor-
theres a pulse, impossibly, of magic and
his hand tightens in your coat and he uses you to support himself as he pushes himself back up and
he is still trying to protect you-

i was just relistening to the Feywild arc again and oh boy i think i may have found some connections with episode 114.
right so in gills section of episode 79 when he enters the meeting room and does his sniff thing for evil and good he notices that one of the figures does not smell completely evil, in fact, it is only one part of him that smells like that. He also notices many others who are the same and some who are fully evil-smelling
pulling directly from the episode grizzly says "That same figure on the other side of the room that you attacked..." who we find out later to be Jayson Ferin "... a bubbling of evil within but it's not fiendish, it's not undead, it seems to be mixed with what is also a good energy as well. It's almost as if they've been fused together... you get this noxious odor but it's only like one part of this person."
this is especially concerning when we pair it with what we learned in the navy base. between the weird memory machine and the message left by faye ferin stating that her son is "stable" it makes me wonder if maybe the experimentation has been going on for a lot longer than we know and for more people than we think. especially because shortly after we hear about that small bit of evil in jayson we also hear about it in many others around the room.
now obviously some of these people could just be a little evil by nature but the discovery of triton skin on the ground before gillon is taken puts doubts about that in my mind.
anyways all this is to say i think maybe jayson is not full himself anymore and has lost a very integral piece to himself and is now just following orders, and i think maybe some of the members of the council in the undersea may also be under that effect, or are full clones so that the navy can spy on them.
this would fit with the undersea being in favor of lunadeyis and faye being in favor of aster, and we can assume that faye is very very high up in the navy.
i am worried.

!ep 114 riptide spoilers under the cut!
One of the best moments in the episode for me was when Destiny's Blade materialised in Gillion's hand and spoke the words, "Chip is about to die."
I swear, I could feel time stop for Gillion. It felt like I was watching a movie or an anime, where there's a brief half second of breathless tension, where the camera pans in really close to the character. And then he /bolts/. There's no hesitation, he instinctively races to save Chip, burning up all his energy and resources just to reach him.
Even as he himself is in no condition to be saving anyone - a foot already at death's door - he bursts through and manages to somehow rescue him, all without keeling over.
I have a soft spot for all the Riptide pirates, but Gillion Tidestrider has my whole fucking heart. Yes, his terribly militarized upbringing has so much to do with how he acts, but this moment had nothing to do with him being a weapon for destruction. Gillion 'The One' Tidestrider didn't put himself in grave danger out of a sense of duty or honour. He materialised in that room because he saw someone he cared for almost bite the dust (again). He was willing to throw his whole life away, not recklessly, not to fulfill some vague prophecy, but because he wanted his best friend to live on to achieve what they'd fought so long and so hard for.
Gillion Tidestrider is a product of his environment, fighting and striving so hard to be a hero because that's what he was always meant to do. And yet, no prophecy or divine calling could make him fight as fiercely or as desperately as when he fights for the people he loves.
