@turquoisemagpie. YOU ABSOLUTE TRADITIONAL ART WIZARD. MY GOD. Your art style has me head over heels all over again with every piece you post. You’re where like- 14 year old me wanted her art to be. You are so insanely talented, your style is amazing, your range is mindblowing, and I cherish the commission of my infamous Bunker Trouble Trio SO MUCH. It was my laptop’s wallpaper for probably over a year. If I hear your commissions are open, I will be HEAVILY considering coming back. I could write an entire post just gushing about how much I love your art. Always keep creating, even what you might think is your worst or less than your usual quality would more than likely be something I’m still working my way up to. You are the DEFINITION of goals. <3

@septic-dr-schneep. WHERE DO I START. Hyperfixation or no hyperfixation, your work ethic is INSANE. I can’t BELIEVE how much you crank out in one hour let alone one day. Even if that’s slowed since before my little Tumblr break, you still blow my mind. I feel drained of creative juices just managing out one long piece for my OCs! Keeping track of a whole series of blurbs, defining canon and not within those, and coming up with a coherent story through each blurb, BASED OFF REQUEST PROMPTS FROM RANDOM PEOPLE? That’s AMAZING. I admire that passion you have so much, and even your breaks and burnouts don’t stop you. I LOVE that!

@lum1natriix. GOD where do I start with your gifs. JSE or other content, they are STUNNING. They’re such smoothly moving, high quality. You put so much work into them and it SHOWS, and I don’t even know where you would Start with making one, it’s always sounded like a Big Process, but your finished products look so awesome! No matter what you make gifs (or edits) of nowadays, I still adore your work. :)

@huffletrax. YOUR ART STYLE IS ADORABLE. It’s so squishy and fun and your coloring is IMMACULATE. And I love that despite your cute, round style, you still really pull off those angsty doodles you make occasionally. >:D You have a range and I’ve loved watching your improvement from the time I was new on Tumblr up to now. Keep going!!

@huffle-dork. I hope this doesn’t count as a mass post because BOY YOU DESERVE SOME APPRECIATION. You have crazy talent, both in your characters AND BACKGROUNDS. MY GOD DUDE, YOUR BACKGROUNDS. Even the ones that are just maybe a swoosh of colors look BEAUTIFUL. Dare I say they’re print worthy all on their own! I love the way you color things, and your style has such range too! Sometimes I can see similarities in my art to yours, and that’s been such a helpful way of keeping my motivation to keep improving up. I admire your art so much, and I love your Subnautica Egos series. <3

@d-structive. GOALS. JUST- GOALS. AGH. I love your style range so much! Your usual squareish stuff, your chibi stuff, your silly shitpost style (dare I callback to the buff ballerina Jameson,,,). All of it!! There’s just something so fun and fluid about it, yet its so square and neatly sharp at the same time! You balance those sorts of elements so well in your art, and I really love your ego designs too. <3 You probably have one of the most easily identifiable Marvin designs in the community, and he’s a little sneaky bastard man. >:D

@spunketpunk. BRUH DO I EVEN NEED TO SAY ANYTHING CAUSE LIKE. WOW. Your COLORING. Your art POPS and its so fucking cool. I love neon and saturated colors and its so rare to find artists who do (at least in my experience) and that’s something that seems like a huge part of your medium and I LOVE THAT. It makes your art insanely unique, and I love the aesthetic of those colors combined with your usually sketchy, messy lineart. Just- *chef’s kiss.* Your originality is fantastic, never lose that no matter what you explore. <3

@dumbthinmint. HEY WHAT’S UP LENGTHY SUPER DEVELOPED AU MAKER BUDDY?? LIKE HOLY SHIT DUDE. The lengths you go research and lore-wise for your AU? BRUUHHH. *slams hands on table* INSANE. And the way you make theory posts IN REFERENCE TO IT? That makes your theorizing stuff SO UNIQUE, I love it! Even when I feel like I can’t push my Ego AU lore with my friends too much further, you’re out here constantly dropping BOMBS of lore and honestly that makes my personal motivation with my own stuff soar right back up. I LOVE watching your AU unfold and progress, and your dedication to it is stunning. :D

There’s so many other artists, writers, editors & more I could tag but I don’t want this post getting 53826 miles long. :’D Just know that if any of you create things and I follow you, I think you’re doing great, I admire your stuff, and I hope you keep it up, no matter if its JSE related or not. <3

Since today (June 24th, 2021) marks a year since Seán last posted here, I figured this is as good of a time as any to try to breathe some life back into this place.

How, you may be wondering? I’m gonna start a thing, that’s how.

Starting tomorrow (June 25th) it’s gonna be

JSE Renaissance Week 2021.

Day 0 (today): boost this post around if you wanna participate. The more people still in the community who see it, the better. Let’s get as many people in on this as we can!

Day 1 (June 25th): Interaction day. Let at least one person in the community know how much you appreciate them being here. Got any fun ask games to send around? Now’s the time. Even better if they’re JSE-related (I’ve got something up my sleeve for this one!).

Day 2: (June 26th): Favorite memories day. This one is sorta self-explanatory; bring back memories of your favorite times in the community, whether they were with other community members here or with Seán himself at a convention or a HDWGH show. Even if it’s something small or obvious, I’ll bet that others will want to remember it, too.

Day 3 (June 27th): Theorist’s day. I know there hasn’t been much by way of canon ego content lately or for a while, but if you’ve got a favorite theory or theorist in the community, give ‘em some love today. Don’t be afraid to bounce ideas off each other, too; even just musing can lead to some incredible things!

Day 4 (June 28th): Artist’s/Writer’s day. Do you have favorite pieces of fanart, an edit, or a fic that you or someone else has created? Reblog that sh*t with a comment saying how much you love it– it’ll probably make someone’s day! Bonus points if you create something for this. Extra bonus points if it’s a collaboration with another community member!

Day 5 (June 29th): Favorite video day. Bring back the videos that made you laugh, smile, cry the most and share them with others. Whether it was the video that brought you here in the first place, your favorite ego appearance, or just a nice Let’s Play or series in general, I think we can all find something to bond over here. Even a compilation or playlist of videos works!

Day 6 (June 30th): PMA day. If you’re looking for a sign to reach out to anyone and let them know how strong they are for making it this far, this is it and today’s the day. I challenge you to write yearbook-style interactions to your favorite community members and drop ‘em in their askboxes. Who knows? It could start something new.

Day 7+ (July 1st and beyond): Time for togetherness. As the week wraps up, I hope we find ourselves finding our feet again. Did you make a new friend or reconnect with an old one over the past week? Good. Make a point to hang onto that. Maybe take the time to conclude the week with some closing thoughts on how we can encourage each other, inspire each other, support each other, and learn from each other. Write an open letter to the community if you want.

From here, it’s up to all of us to keep this going. We don’t have to do specific events or “weeks” all the time, but I figured this might be a good way to get things rolling. If anyone wants to coordinate on setting up other things for the community, I’m just an ask/DM away– depending on what it is, I may not make it to everything because I work so much, but I’m happy to boost whatever I can.

I’m going to tag this and all future posts that have to do with this (including reblogs) with #jse renaissance, as well as put them in the main JSE tags. Feel free to do the same if you’d like to join me. (I’ll still be posting/reblogging normal content as well, though, so no worries if you don’t wanna participate.)

Now this.. I will happily take this as my legacy. This infamous post that made people shit their pants and run for the hills, this post that made everyone do the john mulaney but smashing a bottle and yelling SCATTER!

I was not expecting a reblog from him, far from it actually. This was more of a stupid call-out post for those few people who were KNOWN to thirst over Anti (cough @isa-ghost was tagged wayy too many times in that post cOUGH.) Then put of nowhere Seán reblogs it. Confirms that he knows... And thus chaos spread throughout the entire community. You can see the amount of notes that dang thing has!! Most if not all of those are people in an absolute frenzy. If you're going to look at ANY a post's notes please for the love of ANYTHING go check them out. I love way too many of them to summarize.

Day 2: (June 26th): Favorite memories day.

There have been so many memories from freaking out about the PAX takeover to the chaos that was overnight watch. Then there’s all the theories and fires that came with the hints dropped but my favourite interaction from the community has to be this post from December 2018:

It was just a silly idea that I wanted to share after Sean put up a glitchy photo of himself on his Instagram story. The comments were great

I went to bed thinking not much more of it however when I woke up and found these replies on the blown up post....

Having no idea what they meant, I checked Instagram and saw that he had gone and done something around a black screen with Silent Night being played on slow with a few glitches for good measure

I’ll never ever forget the community chaos from this one little playful suggestion. It still makes me chuckle even now

I was a lost human when I joined this community.

I was 15, I was just figuring out YouTube was more than music, and I was getting used to yet another friendship group. The community really felt like somewhere I could feel accepted, and like I belonged.

After my boyfriend broke up with me, I was confused and, frankly, extremely depressed. I created my jse swap AU (Onerous Cimmerian) as an outlet for how I was feeling, and I began to watch Jack’s videos every day. Before bed and as soon as I woke up.

This habit became bad for me, and it all came to a head in 2019, when I felt like I physically couldn’t watch a Jack video without feeling sorry for myself.

So I took a break. I left, and I found other outlets. But I still looked for ego content. And I felt more lost than ever.

During this renaissance, I rediscovered blogs I used to follow, and I can’t believe I stopped following them.

I’m feeling happy and accepted again, and it’s not because of the videos.

It took me two years to realise that the appeal of JSE wasn’t the videos or Jack or the egos.

The appeal of JSE is the community.

You guys.

For today’s renaissance day I wanted to tell this story because sometimes we forget that part of what made watching Jack so enjoyable was being able to share that experience with others.

We all have a mutual or two in this community that we talk to.

We all helped each other through something, whether it’s providing JJ content for a stressful week, or boosting support posts.

We all share the same view about PMA

It’s our mantra. Our call to ask ourselves, “Am I really ok today, or should I take a break?”

We all believe that our mental health and attitude should be at the forefront of everything. We should never sacrifice ourselves for anything.

Somewhere along the line I think we all forgot that.

Let’s remind ourselves of that, and remind ourselves that this community is a family.

I love you all.

I can’t thank you enough for always being there. Even when I didn’t ask.

Please take care of yourselves.

You have no idea how many people are supporting you right this instant.

I’m one of them.

JSE RENAISSANCE WEEK

Day 3: Theorist's Day

I've been out of the loop for a hot minute now, but I absolutely adore the theory that c!Jack is Jackieboy Man's civilian identity, and that's why the hero has been missing for so long. It makes sense! With Jack in a coma, there's a plausible reason for why he's missing in action! It also would help cc!Jack from having to create a whole new plot line to excuse JBM's absence with Anti clearly on the attack.

Not to mention it adds a new kind of desperation to the others begging him to wake up, not only as their friend, but also as one of the few beings with a chance to take the villain out.

It also lends Anti's understanding of the meta some more weight, seeing as he's taken out his strongest rival before the plot armor rendered that near impossible until potentially much later on.

(It makes you wonder about just how genre aware Anti really is, seeing as he's performed for the community itself more than once)

Hi! It’s Day 1 of the week organised by @rogue-of-broken-time and it looks like a lot of fun, so here we are! (Thanks for coming up with this btw!!)

First of all, shoutout to @isas-theory-wall for being my guiding light in terms of lore when I first got into the egos! This blog was super helpful for figuring out what the hell was going on, and still is, and I really appreciate it! 

Also, more generally to anyone who’s ever made a masterlist or summary of an ego event/time period: I wouldn’t have known about half of the ego seananigans if it hadn’t been for you guys, thank you so much.

Next, @septic-dr-schneep - thank you for all the absolutely incredible writing you’ve shared over the years! You were my first favourite jse author, and I have spent hours reading and re-reading your fics on ao3, I love your work to pieces.  Thank you in particular for the schneep and jackie friendship, and the wonders of platonic and familial orientated fic <3 

And @huffletrax Thanks for being such a strong presence in the community! I love seeing your awesome art and writing on my dash, and your positivity and encouragement of others is something I hope to exemplify. Ngl, was so excited to see you’d reblogged my art recently, thank you!!

JSE Renaissance Day 2: Favourite Memories Day 

I know I missed day one but shhhhh ;)

Favourite memories eh? Hmmm... honestly, I’ve had such a good time in this community overall that it’s really hard to decide. But I’ll try to narrow it down.

Community fire over ego stuff. Even as someone who’s never been the biggest theorist, coming online and seeing everyone parse through the even the tiniest details to try and string together a timeline is always so fun and amazing to see. JJJJ and Chase are the first two I was really active online for, so they stand out the most to me.

The unofficial JSE Edit Week. I actually learned quite a bit about gifmaking through the event (a skill that has proved invaluable since), and during the final week Sean reblogged one of my edits. It was the first time he’d reblogged something of mine, so it was super cool!

I’ve also met some absolutely amazing people during my time here, from people I’ve solely interacted with a handful of times, to friends who now send me all the cat pictures. The people are what make this community what it is, so while it’s not a singular memory per say, I’m listing it anyways. :)

JSE Renaissance Day 3: Theorist’s Day

Almost forgot about the renaissance week oops XD But! I am here now!

I mean what can I say about the theories? There are so many good ones out there. And I mean...there are a lot, too. You know, technically most of the fanon out there about the septic boys are just theories. Even the bit about c!Jack being in a coma: it’s never been explicitly stated or shown, but we’ve put it together from a bunch of little pieces and hints, to the point where it’s widely accepted as canon. Schneep’s time travel is in the same boat. JJ being a puppet was just a theory up until JJJJ. Everything is a theory! You get a theory! And you get a theory!

I’ve had exactly one (1) theory of my own in the past, and it was related to the JJ puppet theory, back before it was confirmed. I thought that maybe JJ was like...Anti’s “host” before Jack, and the being possessed stopped him from aging, hence why a 1920′s man is now in the present day. That theory actually led to my first ever fic, Possessed, because I just really liked the idea and had to write about it ;)

But as for some theories from other people, here’s a list of my favorites:

Anti is trying to corrupt/puppet Chase

Marvin or Schneep somehow brought Anti into the world

Marvin is working on his own to bring all the others together to stop Anti

Schneep messing with time brings JJ to the present (Even though it’s different from my own, I think this is solid!)

Some of the let’s plays series with glitches (like DDLC) are what’s happening to Jack in his coma dreams

And one that I think is really cool but probably not likely to actually happen: all the septics are different versions of c!Jack from different alternate universes. Doesn’t have a high chance at being canon imo, but a very interesting concept for a fic or comic!

I wish I could remember who originally proposed each :( If anyone knows or if you see your own theory up there, tell me so I can properly thank you for your great ideas!

This post is for YOU.

I was so insanely out of the loop when I was dragged into Hell on December 15th, 2017 aka fucking OVERNIGHT WATCH and I had NO PLANS to blow the fuck up somehow or anything. I was shocked my posts were even getting notes because I had no followers and I was mostly yelling incoherently while rifling through other blogs to figure out what the HAP was fuckening.

I’d previously only known Say Goodbye & KJSE existed. I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW ANTI HIJACKED PAX EAST, I THOUGHT THAT RECYCLED FOOTAGE/AUDIO WAS NEW, for some reason not connecting the dots that Sean didn’t have messy wavy dead grass lookin ass hair, he was freshly back to coffee bean. We’d barely even started yelling about how the egos would look with brown hair.

A special double thanks to Rogue, @fear-is-nameless, @huffletrax and a blog no longer existing for somehow coming across my dash for me to latch onto for Coherent, Aware Screaming since I was lost as hell and only knew the pretty glitch man was causing problems on purpose.

Without you guys, I’d never have pieced together things I did that night or anytime after, met my current best friends (besides you guys ;D) from our infamous group- Bunker #88720, or had so many more amazing people like @lum1natriix, @turquoisemagpie, @d-structive and so many other people I admire the absolute hell out of cross my dash and instantly steal a follow. Among other things. Overall, you guys completely curated my experience as a JSEC newborn and I am so insanely nostalgic for those times so often. Thank you guys, and any blog I followed sometime after that for exposing me to more awesome people, artists, gif creators/editors, writers, memelords and more. :) <3 You were all the best domino effect I could’ve asked for. Those of us who are mutuals, I’m so unbelievably happy you’re still here both in the community And on my blog.

And to everyone reading this who didn’t awaken my ass with Knowledge(tm) or theory fuel, oh my god why the fuck are you here. /lh j

Thank you guys for seeing something in me worth nuking your dash in absolute fucking chaos for. Whether you came for theories, my ego AUs, headcanons, little writing blurbs I occasionally shockingly fart out, the art I used to semi-frequently post, or my infamous unholy shitposts like the classic Anti/Cryptic Sean Insult List, every one of you- especially the ones who have been here since 2018 -have been a genuine confidence boost for me regardless of the content my weird stupid ass lured you into following me for.

New hyperfixations or not, I’m still here in the JSEC. I still love you guys, will make JSE content, and haven’t lost interest at all. And even if I were to, I’d still stick to you guys and appreciate anyone who stuck around this insanity pit of a blog.

JSE Renaissance, Day 7

Hey, so, it’s me. Creator of the event here. Just wanted to say a huge thank-you to the people who took part, even if they couldn’t do every day (I know I wasn’t able to do 100% every day either, lol).

This just started as a small idea to bring back the community, and what I saw this week really showed me that people are still here, which is exactly what I’d been hoping for. The event itself may not have gotten a *huge* amount of traction, but I did see a bit of a resurgence in the main JSE tag, which, again, is all I’d really been hoping for. So, to everyone who contributed to this week, again, thank you.

I’ll try to organize more “weeks” or events like this again in the future, so if anyone would like a week of a certain specific theme or would like to collaborate on setting something up, don’t be afraid to reach out to me. I work a lot these days, but that doesn’t mean I won’t try my hardest to keep this place alive in my spare time.

Bottom line is, there will always be a place in my heart for the JSE community. And I hope that this week has brought some of you closer together for the better. :)

JSE Renaissance Week Days 2 & 3

Day 2 (June 26th):

Favorite memories day. Bring back memories of your favorite times in the community, whether they were with other community members here or with Seán himsel. Even if it’s something small or obvious!

MOTHER. FUCKING. OVERNIGHT WATCH.

I have NEVER been so focused, so enthralled, so unshakably invested in something so quickly. And it was something ARGUABLY SO STUPID. GREYSCALE LOOPING FOOTAGE. ALL NIGHT. I STAYED UP ALL NIGHT. 8 HOURS OR SOME SHIT. JUST STARING. LIKE THE OBEDIENT PUPPET WHORE I APPARENTLY AM. AND I HAD A GODDAMN BLAST.

I’d do it again in a heartbeat, and it was my first experience seeing the community band together. Screaming info, dots we connected, theories we made, updates on glitches, SLEEPING IN SHIFTS AND COVERING DIFFERENT TIMEZONES, clipping & giffing moments, screenshots, art, THE WAY WE IMAGINED OURSELVES LIKE SOME SORT OF LEGIT TEAM/ORGANIZATION WHOSE JOB WAS/IS TO MONITOR ANTI ACTIVITY LIKE SOME KINDA SCP SHIT.

For me, it made Mayhem 2018 10x more fun. It felt like slipping into an old favorite outfit that still fit perfectly comfortable like it used to. And if shit ever kicked off that hard and frequent again? Same thing. I love dutifully waiting in the wings for the slightest legit sign of REAL, not overanalyzed activity. Even if we never get anything.

Overnight Watch was AMAZING, it was my spark to become genuinely, regularly active here, and Mayhem 2018- My FAVORITE JSE memory, intensified that even more. I owe those two events for having the “platform” I do on this blog. It gave me the friends I have here and the ones I talk to every single day. Those two things will live in my heart rent free forever. <3

Day 3 (June 27th):

Theorist’s day. I know there hasn’t been much by way of canon ego content lately or for a while, but if you’ve got a favorite theory or theorist in the community, give ‘em some love today. Don’t be afraid to bounce ideas off each other, too; even just musing can lead to some incredible things!

When it comes to other theories from fellow theorists, I can’t actually instantly recall very many. :P BUT, anything I agee with or found amazing was reblogged to my theory wall blog, so anything there that isn’t mine counts as a favorite, I guess. xD

Specific theorists I love? Well- There’s a lot. But I think I’m obligated to shout out @fear-is-nameless, @huffletrax and @rogue-of-broken-time especially, because those three (and someone no longer on Tumblr) are who ignited my interest in theorizing in the first place and are my personal go-to resources for whatever stuff I don’t catch or connect. <3 Thanks to them and their amazing brains and dedication, I myself became other people’s go-to resource, and that means so much to me.

Whether our interest, passion, ideas, or fuel has gone down or fizzled out, they still- and will always -hold a special place in my heart. Not only as fellow theorists, but as friends. <3

JSE Renaissance Week - Days 5 & 6

Day 5 (June 29th): Favorite video day. Bring back the videos that made you laugh, smile, cry the most and share them with others. Whether it was the video that brought you here in the first place, your favorite ego appearance, or just a nice Let’s Play or series in general, I think we can all find something to bond over here.

Bold of anyone to assume I can pick anything but Subnautica. Its the series I go to when I have nothing new to watch, when I just need some comfort, and when I just miss the pretty glowy ocean game. Normally I dont like rewatching things unless its YEARS later, yet I’ve rewatched Subnautica fully at least 5 times between 2018 to now. It just never gets old, and always makes a good distraction.

Day 6 (June 30th): PMA day. If you’re looking for a sign to reach out to anyone and let them know how strong they are for making it this far, this is it and today’s the day. I challenge you to write yearbook-style interactions to your favorite community members and drop ‘em in their askboxes. Who knows? It could start something new.

Jokes on you guys, if any of you need a sign whether you’re on this blog, in my askbox, I’m in yours, or not, this is it. Stay. Don’t hurt yourself. You’re valid and things will get better no matter how long it takes. It might be hard to think so, but you have at least one person who cares that you’re still here. And you’re strong as fuck for trucking on like this. Keep making life your bitch no matter how hard things within it punch you down. You’ve got this.

JSE Renaissance week 2021

Day 2: (June 26th): Favorite memories day.

Oh god there's way too many for me, so many iconic moments.. But I have a good few of them, about 4. I'm gonna post them all sperate because they all deserve their own post.

1/4 - First ego art week

Did I expect Sean to reblog my post? Not at all, I simply wanted to give Marvin some love and saw an opportunity after seeing so many people posting their Marvin art! So I thought "hey what if we just gave him an entire week. All art for Marvin!"

Little did I know this would later create an OFFICIAL ego art week!??

The fact that an "event" I created (which honestly hadn't gotten any attention at first hence the self reblog) would spiral into its own entire thing. The fact that Marvin got two art appreciation weeks as well really made my day. Seeing so many people just bond together after a good while of silence was so refreshing! Kind of like now honestly 💚

2/4 - Marvin Question

Pax is an absolute amazing time, and to think I almost didn't go due to complications at home. Not only did I get to see my partner again and spend a whole week with them, but I got to meet so many members of the community, I got to go to the meet and greet and meet Sean for the first time and he recognized me by my username??

I will never forget that face 😆

But that's besides the point

The main memory that I made that everyone else seems to remember as well is THE Marvin Question. I asked what Marvin sounds like because we haven't heard his voice yet, then we got the iconic

"OI MATE"

so many people were in awe after I told them I was the one who asked such an 'iconic' question. Not to mention the fact that @obviouslypancakes later made an entire animation around the voice alone 🥺
