Can Any Inbound Linking Hurt My Ranking?
Tumblr media
The appropriate response is basic – inbound connecting can't hurt your inquiry positioning. How could this be known beyond a shadow of a doubt? All things considered, for one, if inbound were to harmed your position, your rivals would ceaselessly connection to your site from interface ranches. Such a situation is outside your ability to control. Consequently, Google can't punish your site for any inbound connecting. My viewpoint on e-organizations and their sites, is that in the event that they don't invest wholeheartedly in their sites and show to their clients an energy for what they do, odds are, they will not invest heavily in their items, and the enthusiasm for giving great client support will likewise be missing.
Then again, you can be punished for ill-conceived outside connecting. It is exceptionally exhorted that you not connect to any site or gathering of destinations that might be engaged with obscure or unscrupulous inquiry rehearses. Doing so could bring about being boycotted by Google, at last destroying your digital marketing company in kolkata. Keep away from the present circumstance no matter what and guarantee that all outside joins highlight trusted and solid sources.
Will Any Inbound Linking Hurt My Ranking?
Having been associated with the web business for a huge piece of my functioning life, I have invested a ton of energy exploring and perusing the web and understanding sites, fundamentally for customer configuration research, yet in addition for periodic individual use. The one thing that I discover most frustrating is the clear absence of thought going into site creation and it's the reason, which thusly sets out a missed freedom for some e-organizations to get fruitful.
What you should recall, is that your site is an immediate impression of you and your business. The presence of your site is the main factor in deciding your potential achievement rate. So, if your site doesn't look proficient or satisfying to the eyes from the start, most of individuals will expect your items and additionally administrations to be of comparable helpless norm.
At the opposite finish of the scale, you could fall into the snare of going over the edge with the plan and over confound things with consolidating high costing conspicuous designs. You may wind up with an extraordinary looking and exceptionally stylish site, however the risk with this is that your site may demonstrate untrustworthy and now and again may take too long to even consider stacking. There isn't anything more awful for a client than attempting to visit a lethargic stacking site, and most will close the program window in complete dissatisfaction. As I'm certain you will actually want to work out, this will at last cost you business.
The other significant thought (if not the main) when planning a site is your substance. Connections, yet content with energy, relativity, and comprehension to the client. At the point when somebody is looking for something specifically and they visit your site, they're visiting on purpose. Your site has something they need, Whether this be your item, administration, and additionally data. On the off chance that they can't get what they're searching for, they proceed onward to the following site, etc. To have the option to get your guests to remain and check out your site, you should give them motivation to. Furnishing them with quality substance will accomplish this objective.
There have been incalculable different records and articles regarding the matter of site planning botches, however I have assembled my rundown, from a fashioner's viewpoint, of certain traps to pay special mind to while thinking about either planning a site or buying a format. Recollect that straightforward, clear, educational and very much planned locales are the best. On the off chance that you are a current e-business and your deals aren't what you had trusted, consider the abovementioned and set aside some effort to look transparently and genuinely at your site. Burning through cash on improving your site is a greatly improved venture than discarding cash on attempting to publicize and showcase a site that simply isn't sufficient to sell your item or administrations.
In the event that you are searching for a format or a specially crafted site, know about the abovementioned and be set up to ask your picked originator or layout supplier inquiries to guarantee that your well deserved cash doesn't go to squander on a substandard plan, which contains any of the abovementioned. Posing inquiries will not cost you a penny, and in doing so could save you a great deal of cash over the long haul. Getting your site right first time is crucial in quite a while of setting aside cash and time. The prior your site is fully operational appropriately, the speedier you will actually want to receive the benefits of a fruitful e-business.
The great mix-up Newbies make is to put their site name into the Anchor Text. Except if your site contains your catchphrases this is a misuse of an entirely decent connection. Recall that Google puts an extremely enormous significance on those Anchor writings and they ought to consistently utilize your watchwords.
The subsequent error is attempting to place each and every catchphrase into your anchor text and offer that to everybody. There are two slip-ups with this procedure. 1.) Google appoints weight to each word in anchor text so if there are a great deal of filler words (regular in long sentences), they will "weaken" your objective words.
As per two late studies, directed by Forrester Research and Gartner Group, eCommerce destinations are losing $1.1 to $1.3 billion in income every year because of clients click-away brought about by sluggish stacking locales. On the off chance that a page takes too long to even consider stacking, your potential client won't stand by. Eventually costing you business.
Ensure you incorporate appropriate META labels in the HTML of each page of your site. META labels are HTML codes that empower the web indexes to figure out what catchphrases are applicable to a particular website. Can Any Inbound Linking Hurt My Ranking? the appropriate response is basically no in light of the fact that it will rely upon the website on which we are producing backlinks; About 80% of all site traffic starts from the eight significant web indexes. It would be a smart thought to ensure you've gotten your work done and completely see how to enhance your website pages prior to planning your webpage. This will save you a great deal of migraines over the long haul. For additional data on META labels read the instructional exercise named, "Building Your Site."
Be mindful while choosing your experience and text tones. Occupied foundations make text hard to peruse and keep the from noticing the content. Continuously be predictable with your experience subject on each page of your site. Your site ought to be pleasantly coordinated and uniform all through. Remember, colors influence your state of mind and will influence your guests also. Splendid tones like yellow and orange, cause you to turn out to be more bright or cheerful, while tones, for example, blue and purple have a quieting impact. Dull tones, for example, earthy colored and dark have a discouraging impact. A decent dependable guideline is use colors dependent on the kind of impact you're attempting to accomplish.
Your fundamental page should explicitly tell your guests precisely the thing you're advertising. How often have you visited a site and never sorted out precisely the thing they were selling? In the event that your potential client can't discover your item or administration, they certainly will not burn through a ton of time searching for it. They'll go on to the following site and likely stay away forever. They're visiting your site for a particular reason. They need something your site offers. Regardless of whether it is data, an item, or administration.
Plan your site to be effortlessly explored. Spot your route interfaces together at the top, base left, or right half of the page. Use tables to conveniently adjust your connections. In the event that you are anticipating utilizing realistic catches to explore your site, remember that with every realistic you add to your page, it will take that any longer for your page to stack. In the event that you just have a small bunch of navigational connections, utilizing realistic catches will be fine. In the event that you have more than six connections, it is insightful to just utilize text connects to keep your heap time down.
In the event that you should utilize outlines, use them sparingly. Casings, if not appropriately utilized, can make your site look amateurish. Try not to cause your guests to need to look from one side to another to see your substance. This can be exceptionally bothering and cause your guests to leave. On the off chance that you should utilize outlines, offer your guests a decision. Edges stanzas No Frames. Attempt to keep the quantity of snaps needed to get from your fundamental page to some other page on your site down to four. Remember, your guests may enter your site from pages other than your fundamental. Continuously have great navigational connections on each page and spot your organization logo on each page.
Plan a quality digital book to provide for your guests. It's not as troublesome as it sounds. On the off chance that you can make a page, you can make a digital book. The focal point of your digital book should commend your site. Essentially expound on your enthusiasm. On the off chance that your enthusiasm is deals, you could share a portion of your insight and experience by planning your digital book to give a total deals preparing guide. In the event that your enthusiasm is a locally situated business, you could compose a digital book about how to begin your own locally situated business. Assuming you're expounding on your actual enthusiasm, you shouldn't experience any difficulty concocting something to expound on. For additional data on digital books, read the article named, "How to Create an E-book and Drive Massive Traffic to Your Site by Giving It Away."
Having been engaged with the web business for an enormous piece of my functioning life, I have invested a ton of energy investigating and perusing the digital marketing agency in kolkata, essentially for customer configuration research, yet additionally for infrequent individual use. The one thing that I discover most baffling is the clear absence of thought going into site creation and it's the reason, which thus sets out a missed freedom for some e-organizations to get effective.

No Parental Controls Unlike other antivirus software offerings, AVG’s program does not include options for parents to block certain websites or content on kids’ devices.
Features and Usability
AVG’s AntiVirus FREE has many useful features that are usually reserved for paid subscriptions, and its customization options allow you to choose how and when your virus scans happen.
What We Like
Passive Mode If you already have a built-in antivirus program on your computer, you can still download AVG as a backup. Its passive mode allows it to run as backup protection while not interfering with your primary antivirus program. If AVG catches something the primary program misses, it will alert you.
File Shredder AVG AntiVirus FREE comes with a file shredder that lets you permanently wipe files using the same technology as the US Department of Defense.
Scan Controls AVG has a variety of options to customize how it conducts scans. You can schedule scans for specific times, adjust the intensity of the scans to minimize impact on your computer speeds, and even exclude specific files from being scanned.

What We Don’t Like
Confusing Website When we had some issues with the program on our Mac, we went to the website first to find solutions on the message boards. We found the site counterintuitive and difficult to navigate. We recommend registering on the website so you can contact the help desk directly with any questions you may have.
Protection and Performance
AVG AntiVirus FREE holds its own against pricier antivirus software in independent testing, but Mac users beware—AVG AntiVirus is clearly designed for the PC crowd.
What We Like
Daily Updates AVG recognizes that new malware pops up on the internet daily, so it not only blocks new threats when they attack, it also sends them to the AVG online lab for analysis. AVG then updates all its users with the new info.
Minimal Impact PC users report minimal impact to computer speeds when running the antivirus scans, so your computer’s regular operations still run smoothly while you’re scanning it for viruses.
Excellent Scores Independent testing group AV Comparatives awarded AVG three out of three stars in April 2018 tests, giving AVG top marks in both performance and protection, citing its ability to block 99.6% of malware and its low rate of false alarms.
Now Mac Compatible AVG hasn’t always played well with Apple products, but now it’s compatible with computers running iOS.
What We Don’t Like
Not Available for Mobile iOS AVG has software for your iPhone or iPad, but it isn’t antivirus software. Instead, you can get a VPN program for a small monthly fee on your iPhone or iPad. VPNs make it harder for threats to find you, so you can safely browse the web in public. Check out our Best VPN Services to learn more.
FAQs
Should I upgrade from AVG AntiVirus FREE to AVG Internet Security? It depends—AVG Internet Security is better for those who spend a lot of time online, with enhanced firewall protection and protection against fake websites. The upgraded program also covers all devices used by you or your family, and it includes the AVG AntiVirus Professional for your Android device.
What is AVG PC TuneUp? When you complete a full computer scan using AVG AntiVirus FREE, you might get alerts about junk files, cookies, etc., but you can only fix these problems using a different AVG program called AVG PC TuneUp. AVG PC Tuneup identifies unnecessary files that are using up memory and outdated programs that are causing your PC to run slowly. It automatically updates your software, clears up memory space, and plugs holes in your security. It costs $49.99 per year.
Are AVG AntiVirus FREE and Avast Free Antivirus the same thing? Even though the two companies merged in 2016, the antivirus software is still marketed as two separate products. Software experts say that the merging of the two companies created two stronger products with very similar technology, as each product benefited from the strengths of the other. The main differences between the two are mostly cosmetic.
If AVG is tracking everything I do, does it collect data on me? Yes, it does gather data from your usage history, but after installing the program, you can opt out of data collection under the privacy settings.
How can I get the most out of my antivirus software? Software security experts recommend cleaning up and defragmenting your hard disk and uninstalling any unnecessary software before installing an antivirus program. Leaving at least 20% of your disk free allows your antivirus program to run without slowing down your computer. Be patient and allow the antivirus software to do its job, even if it does create lag in normal computer operations.
Can I get AVG for my iPhone or iPad? Yes, but unfortunately, it’s not free. AVG has a VPN service available for iPhones and iPads for $6.66 per month or $79.99 per year.
The Bottom Line
AVG AntiVirus FREE performs well in independent testing, and PC users are very happy with it. If you’re looking for a simple way to beef up the security on your PC, the AVG AntiVirus Free is a great choice. If you want to protect all of your devices from malicious software, no matter who is using them, then AVG Internet Security can give you added peace of mind. If you’re a Mac user, you should probably look elsewhere for antivirus protection.

Social SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION isn't a separate branch associated with SEO and it won't quickly be replacing traditional SEO, yet social signals are becoming significantly incorporated into search engine methods. Perhaps the particular most important aspect of lookup engine optimization is how a person can actually leverage SEO in order to assist drive more relevant visitors, leads, and sales for your own business. Just browse through the various types of our SEO blog site to find those important on-page ranking factors. According to him, key phrases have already lost their significance and in 2019 this pattern would only get stronger. Seo (SEO) will be the most efficient way in order to drive traffic to your internet site. Performing SEO upon your own websites is the great method to practice plus hone your SEO ability. We optimize your web site both of internal and exterior factors thats Google's engine believe in and reliable for top position search result, Gurantee your SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION ranking No succeed can refundable. Looking deeper: An SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION cost often means one associated with two things: the investment within your organic search strategy, or just how much you pay for compensated search engine marketing (SEM) solutions like Google AdWords. We all are dealing with new methods designed to target old design SEO tactics and that concentrate around the truism that SITE ‘REPUTATION' plus Plenty of WEB PAGES plus SEO equals Plenty associated with Keywords equals LOTS of Search engines traffic. BrightonSEO is a one-day search marketing and advertising conference and series of coaching courses held, unsurprisingly, in Brighton. From narrowing straight down target markets to changing the particular way content is written, AI and voice search will have got a continuous effect on SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION moving forward. One aspect of SEO will be link building, which we may discuss slightly below, which generally leads to thin content. Applications for this 2018-2019 cycle of the SEO Improve programme are now closed plus will re-open again in Planting season 2019. SEO could be difficult because search engines are often reevaluating and changing how these people prioritize search engine results. Moreover, it will help SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION by gaining backlinks, likes, remarks or shares. A greater number associated with people will stick to tone of voice search, so SEO specialists will certainly need to adjust to this particular relatively new kind of research. Seo or SEO is usually a powerful method to generate targeted traffic to your web site and hopefully increase your bottom part line. Whilst many marketing tactics rely upon you reaching out to your own audience, SEO gives you the particular power to achieve people whenever they are actively searching out there information related to your providers and products. White colored hat SEOs the actual recommendations of Google and other lookup engines like google. As Google's search engine outcomes become increasingly monetized and additional platforms such as Amazon plus YouTube gain more SoV plus search volume, I think jooxie is overdue for the focus associated with SEO to shift far through Google. Traditional SEO is definitely focused on building (keyword relevant) links and (keyword relevant) content material. The main reason these kinds of are sometimes misunderstood is because which whole Internet underbelly of alleged SEO companies that you may pay to link to your own site on their networks associated with low-quality articles. However, before we obtain to our main event, I actually must note that after our own 2017 edition of SEO styles launched last year on Lookup Engine Journal, we heard the couple of complaints about simply how long it was. After that your boss tells you if you're accountable for search engine marketing (SEO), too. Michael jordan Harling, SEO Specialist at Roman Blinds Direct, agrees with the particular consensus that voice search can be the trend in 2019. This particular means that SEOs spend the lot of time working upon getting links in a procedure called link building Link-building techniques can range from simply asking for a link to writing the guest post - and generally there are many others. Basically, SEO plans the keywords that will are to be delivered plus content provides them. So, when you are considering about applying SEO in the particular broad sense, you need in order to channelize its technical specifications by means of content marketing. In 2019, you can wager that White Hat SEO can have separated itself even more from Black Hat SEO, plus that above all else, offering quality content will be the particular most important factor for companies ranking in search. The outcomes are not instant, you can use the time on attempting other Internet marketing techniques whilst SEO would go to function. The third major SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION ranking signal is Google's synthetic intelligence search ranking algorithm. Sometimes SEO is definitely simply a matter of producing sure your site is organised in a way that lookup engines like google understand. SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION involves a number of modifications towards the HTML of person Web pages to obtain a higher search engine ranking. As a result associated with technological advancement, SEO is in order to undergo more drastic changes, plus the two latest technologies that will are expected to influence SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION to some very great degree are AI (Artificial Intelligence) plus Voice Search.

Update: March 2017
Some months are the very embodiment of artistic productivity, and others are more like Manhattan traffic on a Monday morning: all fits and starts but eventually you get there. Thus far, March has landed squarely in the latter category. Due to the demands of my shiny new full time job, studio hours were at an all time low. On the other hand, the month has definitely had some (very literal) high points: the view from the penthouse of a swanky downtown hotel, a veritable gold mine of new painters to look at and new art magazines in my inbox, and a renewed drive to maximize my efficiency during those hours that I do get to spend in front of my easel.
Recently, I have devoted my studio time to making radical moves in each unfinished painting in order to allow them to approach finish in exciting, unfussy ways. Rather than focusing on tiny adjustments, I have increasingly turned to make-or-break leaps, like cutting a, 18 in. X 24 in. piece down to 12 in. square in order to right a skewed composition. I have also tried to embrace the idea that not every painting has to be perfectly "polished" to be called "done". Varying the levels of fuss from one patch of detail to another, as long as it is done with a certain measure of intention and sophistication, can add interest and ambiguity to a motif that might otherwise be blandly straightforward.
These shifts in my approach to the final phases of some longer term paintings were certainly inspired by my scheduling constraints, but I certainly did not come to such conclusions without keeping one eye on precedents set by earlier makers. As always, I constantly rely on reproductions of Edwin Dickinson's ethereal canvases and my disintegrating copy of Hawthorne on Painting  to anchor my practice solidly in perceptual fidelity. On the other hand, I have found that looking at recent pictures made and shared by artists on social media has galvanized me to take painterly risks. Projects like Death of a Coworker, an Instagram account featuring 14 figurative artists who trade portraits of one another, and homegrown publications like UPPERCASE Magazine are visual gold-mines. Rich with the names of emerging makers and thinkers, I have found their content to be nothing short of catalytic.
While March was a tough month in the studio, my show schedule was relatively light . Art for Life Chicago, organized by DIFFA (Design Industries Foundations Fighting AIDS), was a runaway professional and philanthropic success. Two of my paintings, In Lieu of Testimony No. 1 and No. 2 were featured at the event, where they hung alongside a dazzling array of Chicago art. Both paintings were sold to the highest bidders in a silent auction, with the majority of the proceeds from each sale benefitting those suffering from and vulnerable to HIV/AIDS in Chicagoland. In coming months, a few paintings will be leaving the studio to spend time on more public walls. The newly square AboutFace (Tell me what you see in the mirror) will be headed to Nasty Women Art Chicago in May, where 100% of proceeds will be donated to Planned Parenthood to support their vital work in women's healthcare. Both These Eyes are Windows (Air-Raid Curtains) and Alleyway View (Obstructed) will be packed up and sent (accompanied by an army of "FRAGILE" stickers) to Winter Park, Florida. There, they will be on display at the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens as part of an exhibition entitled "Summer of Love: Reflections on Pulse" until September.
It seems like the fewer hours I get to spend at my easel, the more I dedicate my attention to actually looking at, reading about, and considering art from afar. My paintings require more than just the hours spent crafting their surfaces. They demand that i constantly consider countless things: the universe of imagery upon which they are founded, the sociopolitical conditions under which they are made, and the questions motivating their creation (to name just a few). In a sense, making art feels a lot like attempting a fishtail braid. Pushing piles of pigment is only one strand, which must be woven between a series of others before it can bear any weight. These other threads are of equal importance. While I can't possibly name all of the ingredients that I threw into the mix over the last few weeks, I will leave you with this sample:
Yonder: Essays by Siri Hustvedt
While I read one essay from Yonder ("Ghosts at the Table") quite some time ago, I recently returned to the oil-stained copy that I keep in my studio. The first essay, which initially attempts to define and locate exactly where "yonder" can be found, is an entrancing meditation on the slippery relationships with the people and places that live in the author's memory. If you ever need a book that is simultaneously intricate, eloquent, and intimately relatable, I highly recommend Hustvedt's work.  For more information, check out "Wandering Here, There, Everywhere", written for the LA Times by Jonathan Levi.
Secondly Finally by Mike Lee
I won't lie, I have not actually received my copy of Secondly Finally yet (although it can be purchased through Organic Weapon Arts for the painter-friendly price of $10.00). Lee's poems, however, delve into the complex imagery of loss with a measure of clarity that is both alarming and quizzical. I admire them for more reasons than I can count. He stares into the amorphous experiences surrounding death and memory, crystallizing the emotions that baffle even the most methodical of non-fiction writers. Lee's poem "Pass On" (which I can't seem to locate anywhere except for this Tumblr page) is particularly poignant. To check out more of Mike Lee's poetry, or to read his compelling ruminations on our current sociopolitical situation, take a look at his website and his blog.
On Photography in the New York Times Magazine
I recently stumbled onto the New York Times Magazine's On Photography series while pining away desperately for my long-lost JSTOR subscription. The lion's share of the articles are written by the wildly talented and insightful Teju Cole, but other authors also contribute to the series. Obviously inspired by the storied history of texts bearing the same title (my favorite being Susan Sontag's legendary book), these articles are fresh, quick reads, perfect when you need a break from the ardor of art theory.
Vija Celmins: Television and Disaster 1964-1966 by Franklin Sirmans and Michelle White
This little grey gem has been laying next to the chair in my studio ever since I unearthed it from the discount shelf of the Art Institute Chicago's book store. At the time, I was unfamiliar with Vija Celmins' work, which ranges from small, representational paintings to toy-like sculptures. As a group, Celmins' objects are quiet, but the lullaby of their familiarity is intertwined with discordant notes of alarm. The first essay in the book, entitled "Arresting Ambiguity: Vija Celmins in the 1960s", delves into the play between form and content, exploring the layers of questions posed by a body of work that resists simplification. For more information about LACMA's Vija Celmins: Television and Disaster exhibition, check out this review in Aesthetica Magazine. The book (which is not only fascinating, but also beautifully made) is available from Amazon.

Pong with SVG.js
Everybody loves the vintage game Pong, right? We sure do. What's more fun? Building it yourself!
That's why we decided to create one with SVG.js - to highlight some aspects of our library. It might seem like a complex idea for a small tutorial, but as you'll see, it's simpler than it sounds. Let's dive into it!
Here's the finished product:
See the Pen Fully functional Pong game with effects by Wout Fierens (@wout) on CodePen.
Getting started
SVG.js is available through Github, npm, bower or CDN.js. There are plenty of options for getting your hands on SVG.js, so use whatever you are most comfortable with.
Start out by creating a new HTML document and include the library. Create an empty <div> to serve as a wrapper for the SVG document, and give it an id attribute. Something like pong should be suitable for this project:
<div id="pong"></div>
Next, initialize the SVG.js instance by referencing the wrapper. At this point, it's also a good idea to define a width and height for the game which makes it easier to modify them later on.
// define width and height var width = 450, height = 300 // create SVG document and set its size var draw = SVG('pong').size(width, height)
Now you're ready to start building the game.
Drawing Game Elements
The Background
The background should cover the whole document, so we're using a <rect> and give it a neutral grayish color. First, we'll draw the left player in green. Then, we'll draw the right one by cloning the left one and coloring it pink.
// draw background var background = draw.rect(width, height).fill('#E3E8E6')
We'll also need a vertical, dashed line in the middle to distinguish the player fields.
// draw line var line = draw.line(width/2, 0, width/2, height) line.stroke({ width: 5, color: '#fff', dasharray: '5,5' })
See the Pen Pong Background by Wout Fierens (@wout) on CodePen.
Paddles and the Ball
Pong wouldn't be Pong without paddles and a ball. First, we'll draw the left player in green. Then, we'll draw the right one by cloning the left one and coloring it pink.
var paddleWidth = 20, paddleHeight = 100 // create and position left paddle var paddleLeft = draw.rect(paddleWidth) paddleLeft.x(0).cy(height/2).fill('#00ff99') // create and position right paddle var paddleRight = paddleLeft.clone() paddleRight.x(width-paddleWidth).fill('#ff0066')
For the ball we're going to use a circle with a diameter of 20 and place it in the center of the court:
// define ball size var ballSize = 20 // create ball var ball = draw.circle(ballSize) ball.center(width/2, height/2).fill('#7f7f7f')
See the Pen Pong Paddels and Ball by Wout Fierens (@wout) on CodePen.
Score board
Finally, we will need a scoreboard which we will add at the top of the court.
// define initial player score var playerLeft = playerRight = 0 // create text for the score, set font properties var scoreLeft = draw.text(playerLeft+'').font({ size: 32, family: 'Menlo, sans-serif', anchor: 'end', fill: '#fff' }).move(width/2-10, 10) // cloning rocks! var scoreRight = scoreLeft.clone() .text(playerRight+'') .font('anchor', 'start') .x(width/2+10)
That's all! Now we have all game elements, let's move on to game logic.
See the Pen Pong Scoreboard by Wout Fierens (@wout) on CodePen.
Game logic
We'll start out by writing an update function which will update the state of our game and game elements.
// random velocity for the ball at start var vx = Math.random() * 500 - 250 , vy = Math.random() * 500 - 250 // update is called on every animation step function update(dt) { // move the ball by its velocity ball.dmove(vx*dt, vy*dt) // get position of ball var cx = ball.cx() , cy = ball.cy() // check if we hit top/bottom borders if ((vy < 0 && cy <= 0) || (vy > 0 && cy >= height)) { vy = -vy } // check if we hit left/right borders if ((vx < 0 && cx <= 0) || (vx > 0 && cx >= width)) { vx = -vx } }
When we run this, nothing will happen, because we didn't call the update function yet. This will be done using JavaScript's native requestAnimationFrame feature, which will allow us to do smooth animations. To make this work, a handler is registered to periodically call our update function:
var lastTime, animFrame; function callback(ms) { // we get passed a timestamp in milliseconds // we use it to determine how much time has passed since the last call if (lastTime) { update((ms-lastTime)/1000) // call update and pass delta time in seconds } lastTime = ms animFrame = requestAnimationFrame(callback) } callback()
Yay! The ball is jumping around! But, our paddles are still pretty useless at the moment. So, let's do something about that and insert paddle collision detection. We'll only need it on the x-axis:
var paddleLeftY = paddleLeft.y() , paddleRightY = paddleRight.y() // check if we hit the paddle if ((vx < 0 && cx <= paddleWidth && cy > paddleLeftY && cy < paddleLeftY + paddleHeight) || (vx > 0 && cx >= width - paddleWidth && cy > paddleRightY && cy < paddleRightY + paddleHeight)) { // depending on where the ball hit we adjust y velocity // for more realistic control we would need a bit more math here // just keep it simple vy = (cy - ((vx < 0 ? paddleLeftY : paddleRightY) + paddleHeight/2)) * 7 // magic factor // make the ball faster on hit vx = -vx * 1.05 } else ...
Better, now the ball is aware of the paddles. But a few other things are still missing:
the score is not updating when the border is hit
paddles are not moving
the ball should reset when a point was scored
Let's work through this list from top to bottom.
See the Pen Pong jumping ball by Wout Fierens (@wout) on CodePen.
Update the score
To update our score, we need to hook into collision detection to the left or right wall:
// check if we hit left/right borders if ((vx < 0 && cx <= 0) || (vx > 0 && cx >= width)) { // when x-velocity is negative, its a point for player 2, else player 1 if (vx < 0) { ++playerRight } else { ++playerLeft } vx = -vx scoreLeft.text(playerLeft + '') scoreRight.text(playerRight + '') }
See the Pen Pong jumping ball by Wout Fierens (@wout) on CodePen.
Moving the user-controlled paddle
The right paddle will be controlled by the keyboard, and that's a piece of cake with SVG.js:
// define paddle direction and speed var paddleDirection = 0 // -1 is up, 1 is down, 0 is still , paddleSpeed = 5 // pixels per frame refresh // detect if up and down arrows are prssed to change direction SVG.on(document, 'keydown', function(e) { paddleDirection = e.keyCode == 40 ? 1 : e.keyCode == 38 ? -1 : 0 }); // make sure the direction is reset when the key is released SVG.on(document, 'keyup', function(e) { paddleDirection = 0 })
So what are we doing here? First, we call SVG.on, which lets us bind an event listener to any node (not only SVG.js objects). We'll listen to the keydown event to detect if either the up (38) or the down (40) key is pressed. If that's the case, the paddleDirection will be set to -1 or 1 respectively. If another key is pressed, the paddleDirection will be 0. Lastly, when any key is released, the paddleDirection will be reset to 0.
The update function will do the actual work of moving the paddle, based on the user input. So we'll add the following code to the update function:
// move player paddle var playerPaddleY = paddleRight.y(); if (playerPaddleY <= 0 && paddleDirection == -1) { paddleRight.cy(paddleHeight / 2) } else if (playerPaddleY >= height-paddleHeight && paddleDirection == 1) { paddleRight.y(height - paddleHeight) } else { paddleRight.dy(paddleDirection * paddleSpeed) }
We prevent the paddle from exiting the court by testing its y position. Otherwise, the paddle will be moved by a relative distance using dy().
See the Pen Pong user controlled paddle by Wout Fierens (@wout) on CodePen.
Moving the AI paddle
A good opponent will make the game worthwhile. So we'll have the AI player follow the ball, with a predefined difficulty level. The higher the difficulty, the faster the AI paddle will respond.
First define the difficulty value, defining the AI's speed:
var difficulty = 2
Then add the following code to the update function:
// get position of ball and paddle var paddleRightCy = paddleRight.cy() // move the left paddle in the direction of the ball var dy = Math.min(difficulty, Math.abs(cy - paddleRightCy)) paddleRightCy += cy > paddleRightCy ? dy : -dy // constraint the move to the canvas area paddleRight.cy(Math.max(paddleHeight/2, Math.min(height-paddleHeight/2, paddleRightCy)))
See the Pen Pong user controlled paddle by Wout Fierens (@wout) on CodePen.
Score!
Wait, this isn't right! The game goes on even after one of the players scored. Time to include a reset function to move all game elements to their initial position using animations:
function reset() { // reset speed values vx = 0 vy = 0 // position the ball back in the middle ball.animate(100).center(width / 2, height / 2) // reset the position of the paddles paddleLeft.animate(100).cy(height / 2) paddleRight.animate(100).cy(height / 2) }
The reset function should be called if one of the players misses the ball. To make that happen, change the failure detection by removing the vx = -vx line and adding the reset() call:
// check if a player missed the ball if ((vx < 0 && cx <= 0) || (vx > 0 && cx >= width)) { // when x-velocity is negative, its a point for player 2, else player 1 if (vx < 0) { ++playerRight } else { ++playerLeft } // update score scoreLeft.text(playerLeft) scoreRight.text(playerLeft) reset() }
We also need to make sure the initial vx and vy values are set to 0. So the game does not start without our input. To be able to indicate the first serve, we'll add a click listener to the SVG document:
draw.on('click', function() { if (vx === 0 && vy === 0) { vx = Math.random() * 500 - 250 vy = Math.random() * 500 - 250 } })
See the Pen Pong with start and reset by Wout Fierens (@wout) on CodePen.
Encore
Of course, there is a lot left to improve on the game, but the purpose of this tutorial is to teach about SVG and in particular about SVG.js. We want to leave you with some visual effects to spice up the game.
Ball color
It would be nice to have the color of the ball change while approaching the opposite opponent. This is done by leveraging the power of the morph method on the SVG.Color class. We'll detect the position of the ball, and gradually assign the color of the opposite opponent, based on the position of the ball on the x-axis.
We'll start by initializing a new instance of SVG.Color:
var ballColor = new SVG.Color('#ff0066')
Next, we'll define the target color by calling the morph() method:
ballColor.morph('#00ff99')
This will set a start color, being #ff0066 and an end color, being #00ff99. Using the at() method on SVG.Color, we can tween the color based on a given position between 0 and 1. So by adding the following code to our update function, we can change the color of the ball while it moves:
ball.fill(ballColor.at(1/width*ball.x()))
That wasn't hard at all, right?
Boom!
Imagine a huge color blast when the opponent missed the ball. That would make it even more fun to win a point. To achieve this, we'll use a radial gradient. It will appear where the ball has hit the wall and then quickly fade out. Once faded out, the object carrying the gradient will be deleted from the scene. To achieve this, we'll add another function called boom including the required logic:
function boom() { // detect winning player var paddle = vx > width/2 ? paddleLeft : paddleRight // create the gradient var gradient = draw.gradient('radial', function(stop) { stop.at(0, paddle.attr('fill'), 1) stop.at(1, paddle.attr('fill'), 0) }) // create circle to carry the gradient var blast = draw.circle(300) blast.center(ball.cx(), ball.cy()).fill(gradient) // animate to invisibility blast.animate(1000, '>').opacity(0).after(function() { blast.remove() }) }
See the Pen Fully functional Pong game with effects by Wout Fierens (@wout) on CodePen.
Conclusion
That's it! You just created a working Pong game using SVG.js. In the next tutorial, we will cover how to convert this blob of code into a reusable SVG.js plug-in, while adding new features and easy configuration to the game.
