I think I figured out what makes me uncomfortable about Wicca's brand of soft polytheism
So I have no beef with soft polytheism as a concept whatsoever, I think it's fine. The thing that I think makes me uncomfortable about the Wiccan version of it is that they don't use their own deities, they take deities from other traditions, which have their own cosmology and theology, and impose their own beliefs on those entities, essentially saying that the gods are all 'really' emanations of the god and goddess. It erases a shit ton of culture and theological concepts from other religions.
Like, I'd be fine if they just had the goddess and god, but then you say ah okay Sekhmet is just a face of my goddess, actually, and stuffs Sekhmet's whole complicated self and mythology into female mother moon goddess archetype, even though she's 1. Associated with the sun, actually, as a protector of Re and 2. Absolutely not a mother goddess, you're thinking of HetHeru (Hathor), who is associated with motherhood.
And that's not even getting into them using gods and goddesses from closed cultures. A local witchy group used Lwa along with beings from other more open religions in very wiccanesque rituals (despite not being labeled as a wiccan group) and it left a bad taste in my mouth, so I stopped going.
Just like. Stop making theological statements about other people's gods. It's just as gross as Christians calling other gods demons. That's not your tradition, it's not your call to make.

could i have a query to the netjeru using the sekhmet's servant deck? in general, i'd just like to see if things will be looking up soon... i expect sutekh or hetheru would respond!
Of course you may!
I had Hethert and Mut come forward for you, both appearing in their Divine Queen aspects. They are both strong rulers, but also kind and loving individuals. Even on this gloomy day, they radiate warmth and kindness! Fittingly enough, I also drew the Queen of Cups as a clarifier card.
"We hold your heart near and dear to us, little one. There is no path that you are not capable of surviving, and these bad days will soon end. Until then, allow us to help ease your burdens. Rest your weary feet and allow us to carry you. You are not alone. Indeed, you are never alone. We have much love for you in our hearts and wish for nothing but your happiness."

Which lessons have you learned from Bast? And from Hetheru?
What a cool question! Lemme think...
I’ve been following Bast for 5 years now, so Her lessons have been numerous. I think the most important one, though, is that She is always here. Always. When I’m lost in depression and haven’t even touched my altar in weeks, She’s still here. When I’m being petty or shallow or stirring up my share of isfet, She’s still here. When I’m doubting everything - life after death, the soul, magic, spirit, even the existence of the gods themselves - She’s still here. And that has taught me to trust She won’t leave me, which has in turn taught me to be okay (or at least better about) sitting with my emotions and experiencing them as they come. It’s easier to process a negative emotion or experience if you’re not panicked that the gods hate you now, or wondering if they let something bad happen to punish you. Bast’s presence, Her love, is unconditional. And no matter how long it’s been since I first stepped onto her path, that still blows me away.
Hetheru’s lessons for me have been about making good (not just easy or lazy) choices and getting outside my comfort zone. She encourages me to say yes to stuff when I’d rather say no, or to ask “why not?” when I’d rather ask “why?”. She’s all about taking chances and not letting life pass by because sitting on the couch sounds better. Have you been kinda maybe thinking about going to this thing? Then let’s go right now! Have you been stalling on texting that person? Grab your phone!! Not sure if you want to hang out with a friend this weekend? Why not? Might be the best day of your life! She’s all extrovert energy and laughter and the kind of encouragement and support that promise you’ll be okay. You might be scared at first, or embarrassed, or nervous, but by the end you’re going to be having a wonderful time. Not to sound totally cliche but Hetheru is like... life’s ultimate wingwoman.
Thank you for asking, you got my brain wheels turning! I might have to write more about this!

I deleted my Hetheru playlist because it felt fake and I'm starting over. I forgot how daunting it is to restart a playlist that had topped at 12 hours of songs.

Guise.
Can we just talk for a second about how much energy Hathor expends and demands in return? Like. I'm used to this to a point: sometimes the gods just take what you got and take more than you intended and hoo boy, now you're crashing. I used to deal with it with Sekhmet all the time until I figured out how to work around it/ deal with it/ fix it.
But. But. I never really thought of Hathor as an energy suck. I don't know why either. I should have. I knew a lot about her before all this. The evidence was all right there for the seeing. But it's not evident or apparent until it happens and before now, it did not happen.
So I'm just. I guess what I'm trying to say is that no matter how much ecstatic energy you might build up for her, triple it at least.

Do you have any good resources for myths specific to Heru-wer? Books, links, etc? I feel like such a bad devotee that I only really know of one so far, the winged disk.
Hey there. I hope you don’t mind me making this public as I’m sure @obsidianwitch and @theartofwingingit can offer some advice.
So I definitely understand where you’re comingfrom here since I had similar issues when I first became involved withHeru-Wer. To me, the only thing I really knew about him before I startedlooking deeper was that he was a son of Geb and Nut without a counter pointlike their other children. It seemed like there was this great deity but he washiding, maybe, hoping that those who really wanted to get to know him would gosearching.
So let me tell you what I found before we go too muchfurther: I found out that when it comes to Horus mythos (any of them really),it’s a complete cluster. I’m going to directly quote from The House of Horus atEdfu by Barbara Watterson: “There were many forms of Horus, some more importantthan others, and the myths associated with them became intertwined making themythology very complicated.”
On top of the fact that the mythos became so complicatedbecause of all of the syncretic forms of Horus out there, the other issue isthat many of the temples specifically relating to Horus, or some aspect of oneof them, were all built and re-built and re-built. As an example, the Edfucomplex that we know today is from the Ptolemaic era. It took the Ptolemiesyears to build it (as I recall, it was actually like 3 or 4 different Ptolemiesthat built the current historical structure). But it was a rebuild of an ancientsite dating back to the Pre-Dynastic era though the remains of this site onlydate back to the 5th Dynasty. (The original structures, showing athriving city, is located about 50 m at a site known as Wetjeset-hor, which I’ll discuss in more detail in a bit.) Theserebuilds are going to complicate information even further.
And finally due to the syncretism between Horus the Elderand Horus the Younger, and the similarities in mythology, it seems that manyearly Egyptologists kind of tossed them all into one giant Horus shaped crockpot and didn’t much care what came out.  Asdevotees of Heru-Wer, it becomes frustrating because we’re mostly catchingglimpses of him in general books or in books about one subject that mentionsome tantalizing tidbit that you may not find in any other book ever again.
So basically, it’s not your fault that you haven’t found anythingmore mythology wise. It’s just that getting the information when it comes toany of the Horus out there is just a complete crapshoot.
Let’s talk about aspects that may be of interest to you:
1.      You’ve got warrior king in his form ofHeru-Behdety already, with the Winged Disk myth. Obviously, this form waspretty prominent down at Behdet.
2.      You’ve got the blind man in his form of Khenty-Khem.Both his eyes were said to be the sun and the moon. When his eyes were visible,he was known as Heru Khenty-Irty and when neither were visible, he was known asHeru Khenty-En-Irty. This form was pretty important down in Khem, or Letopolis.
3.      Then there’s our Sphinx down at Giza, associatedwith the sunrise, known as Heru-em-Akhet. He was obviously of pretty bigimportant in, you guessed it, Giza. :)
4.      Then you’ve got the Horus of the Two Horizonsthat we all know and love as the syncretized Re-Horakhty.
From what I’ve read, and most of my reading has been all overthe map (I’ll give sources in a few minutes), I have found that the furtherback you go, the more and more clear cut the Heru-Wer information gets. Youhave to find it though because he’s not often illustrated as Heru-Wer.  You get ageneral Horus and a reference to a place where a major cult center happened tobe, such as Behdet, Nekhen, Kom Ombo, etc.
Here’s some important information for you before I give yousome resource information:
Hetheru is very important and very tied to Heru-Wer.  You really can’t get too deep into Heru-Wermythos without finding her staring back at you. Hetheru appears to have been his primary consort and based on what I’vefound, it actually kind of seems like Re and Hetheru were together beforeHeru-Wer wound up with her.  I’m not surehow this came about but there you have it. You can take or leave Hetheru and Heru-Wer’skid, Ihy. He pops up now and again, but he doesn’t get as much mention asHetheru does. I’ll tell you that he has more information on him in relation to Hetheru than Heru-Wer.
Another thing is that Heru-Wer apparently also had anotherconsort, who is another aspect of Hetheru: Tasenetnofret, and they had a child, too, Panebtawy. These two relations of his are found at Kom Ombo so myinformation is limited as I have not had time to research Kom Ombo as much as Ihave regarding Edfu.
The reason I decided to mention this is that I found some information when reading things on Hetheru. So, the Festival of the Beautiful Reunion is pretty big and important. It was through my research into this festival that I found out more details about Behdet. Sometimes when it comes to needing more information, you need to research the members of the triad in order to get anything of interest.
So where to look for this stuff, right?
The House of Horus at Edfu by Barbara Watterson (book isthin and the mythology portion is kind of disappointing)
Daily Life of the Egyptian Gods by Dimitri Meeks and Christine Favard-Meeks(they give glimpses that make you want to pull your hair out by the informationis interesting)
Egyptian Myths by Geraldine Pinch
The Complete Gods and Goddesses of AE by Richard H Wilkinson
Ancient Egyptian Magical Texts by J.F. Bourghouts
Temple of Edfu by Dieter Kurth
Henadology
KO Wiki
AE Online
Reshafim
Articles about each temple precinct
I most likely have other sources with information available on the H-dubs that I’m just forgetting.
Just know that the information is there; it’s a matter of putting on your waders and sorting through all the manure first. ;D
