K2 Body Recovery Bodies have been found on 26th July. Ali and John by Sherpas from @madisonmtng during fixing ropes and JP by Valentyn Sypavin @valiksypavin. The bodies were located in different places: Ali and John were found above Bottleneck, at about 8300m. They were still connected to fixed ropes, one by rappel device and the other by carabiner, without oxygen masks and bottles, some think this means they died during descent. JP was found about 20mins from C4 (on photos location is estimated as 20mins from C4) Reason for death unknown. Some think because bodies were found in different locations, on the correct route between C4 and Summit we can rule out a tragic accident such as avalanche, fall or broken ropes. I'm not totally convinced, why was JP so far down from the others, in an avalanche debris field? Did he leave the other two early and return to the tent and get lost in bad weather, or did he get avalanched down? More evidence would be needed to rule out avalanche in the bottleneck. Maybe one climber became incapacitated up high, one decided to stay near, and the other went to c4 to stage rescue? Maybe they all started climbing/descending separately, and all stopped and froze at different points on descent? It seems as though the two above the bottleneck were on descent because of their locations and rappel device on rope. Did they summit? The team managed to retrieve Snorri's GoPro camera, Garmin and phone, they are being analyzed. But with all due respect, does it matter if they made the summit? They're all deceased. Was it worth it? 🗣️📢 Latest Update from K2 Camp 4 ⛑️🏔️🇵🇰 Bodies of Pakistani mountaineer Ali Sadpara, Iceland’s John Snorri and Chile’s Juan Pablo Mohr have been found, confirmed Gilgit Baltistan Information Minister Fateh Ullah Khan to Geo News on Monday. Sajid Sadpara, along with Canadian filmmaker Elia Saikaly and Pasang Kaji Sherpa, is summitting the K2 to find the bodies of his father and his companions Snorri, and Mohr. The mountaineers had gone missing on February 5 and were declared dead a few days later after their bodies were not found and the rescue mission was called off. The team had reached Camp 4 this morning and flew a drone around the area in search of the bodies, sources said. Through the drone, the team was able to detect a body above Camp 4 near the bottleneck. A message from Saikaly said that Sajid Sadpara has buried Juan Pablo and that his father's body is located above the bottleneck. "Sajid just buried Juan Pablo. His father Ali is just above the bottleneck. We will go up again tonight," said the Canadian filmmaker at 6:59pm. A minute later, Saikaly sent an SOS message for more oxygen as the team was running low on it. "If anyone can help us get more oxygen, anyone from Pakistan with influence, people at Base Camp leaving, we could use your help. Running low," said the Canadian. I’m in Pakistan and headed to K2 with Sajid Sadpara to search for his father, Ali Sadpara and our dear friend John Snorri. The truth is: I just couldn’t do nothing. These are our friends. These were our teammates. We were making a film about their winter ascent. We were supposed to be with them the night they disappeared with JP Moer and we are likely alive because fate intervened as an oxygen mix-up forced PK and I back just below camp 3. Ali, JP Mohr and John never returned. Sajid survived. While climbing Everest this spring, I obsessively sought out support to finish our film and honor our friends, yet in the end, we failed to gain financial support, as did Sajid. Unwilling to quit, in the last two weeks, our tiny unit pulled off a miracle and today, a very grown-up Sajid launched the project in the Pakistani press. @sherpapk will be with us as will Fazal Ali, Mosin, Aziz and the cooking staff from the winter ascent. Asghar from @jasminetourspakistan helped us pull it all together at the 11th hour. PK Sherpa moved mountains in Nepal to ensure we have all that we need. I’ve flipped my entire world and my finances upside-down, but I don’t care. I’ll clean the mess up when I get home.
