Ten years ago, in 2014, a vampire-obsessed eleven-year-old began writing one of many, many fanfictions in his storied career. This fanfiction, called Haloed, followed an alternate take on Vampire Knight, adding a new character: Kara Shakaku, the last daughter of a slayer family with a secret. Their wings. After the death of her parents, Kara is taken in by Kaien Cross, a family friend who knows their secret, and who vows to protect her and honor her mother's dying wish.

And yeah, there's a reason she's wearing the Night Class uniform---in the original story, Kara went undercover as a part of the Night Class, in order to help keep an eye on them from the inside. An illusion made possible by her crimson eyes and a forbidden Slayer medicine that gives her vampiric attributes.

This story will forever hold a special place in my heart, as one of my longest stories, one of the oldest fanfictions I still have access to, and one of the first stories where I really let my imagination go wild.

Old OCs AU: Part 1

Fun fact about me: I wrote a lot of Vampire Knight fanfiction in middle school. Haven't thought about most of it in years. But recently, I've been drawn back into my Vampire Knight phase, and it's been really inspiring me. So, a few nights ago, I had a thought: what would the story look like if I put all my old OCs into one story?

And thus, the Old OCs AU was born.

Here's Part 1: The Cross Kids. (Character descriptions below the cut.)

Akaji Cross (OC): As the only biological child of Kaien Cross, it only makes sense that Akaji is a part of the Disciplinary Committee at her father's school, serving his purpose of keeping the peace between human and vampire students. But Akaji is straddling the line between the human and vampire worlds in more ways than one...

Yuki Cross (CC): Yuki has no memory of who she was before that snowy night ten years ago, when she was saved from a vampire attack by Kaname Kuran. Adopted by Kaien Cross, Yuki now attends Cross Academy with her adopted siblings, and takes her role on the Disciplinary Committee very seriously. Still, she wonders...what secrets lurk in her own past?

Kara Shakaku (OC): Being the daughter of one of the most famous Slayer families comes with its fair share of problems---especially when you're the only one left. Even taken in by Kaien Cross, Kara has never really had a place since her parents died. Were killed. After all, most other students at Cross Academy are hiding wings....

Zero Kiryu (CC): Zero doesn't agree with Kaien's pacifist ideology when it comes to vampires. A vampire killed Zero's parents, his twin brother...and now Zero is infected and cursed, and slips closer and closer every day into becoming that monster he fears so. The only thing that's keeping him going is unfinished business. And he refuses to die until it's done.

Old OCs AU, Part 2: The Harkers

Part two of my Vampire Knight Old OCs AU!

Character descriptions below the cut!

Vera Harker (OC): Vera will never forget the night that the Kiryus were brutally killed by that vampire. Even after being taken in by her uncle and cousin, and being whisked out of her home in Japan, that image will never leave her. And she'll never stop hunting the vampire that killed them. So, now that she's tracked that vampire back to Cross Academy, all Vera has to do is convince her uncle to let her return to Japan, without letting on the real reason she wants to go...

Luka Harker (OC): There was no way that Luka was going to let his cousin return to Japan alone, even if it is dangerous for him there. But there's one good thing about Cross Academy: Kara Shakaku. As it turns out, Luka and Kara have something very interesting in common...and maybe, together, they'll be able to uncover an ancient conspiracy lurking within the Slayer Society itself...
