I'm finishing watching the documentary by Katia and Maurice Krafft. A couple from the 70s who captivated the world with their rare fascination with volcanoes.
I liked their answers to face the criticism behind the question:
"and why do you do what you do?"
Well, because they want to, just like that.
Why would anyone do something they don't want to?
Katia's notes reveal that her energy, admiration, and perseverance were focused on living her time on this earth to the fullest.
Maurice on the other hand, and without hesitation, accepted that he preferred to live an intense and short life, to a long and monotonous one.
After all, what made them the great couple of volcanologists was their decision to be so.
People admired how they chose to live their lives.
Amazed at the lightness with which they approached a life full of uncertainty, risks and threats.
And above all, they envied that it was not a story about a crazy scientist, but about a couple in love making their adventure public.
In my panoramic view, beyond romance, I understood the love of being alive. It was as if I understood an inside joke between Katia and Maurice. Why live boring unfullfiling lives, when you can live your best life?
When that host asked the question, I was faced with several flashbacks were people came up to me, with this condescendant energy, and ask me "what do you do?" And proceed to tell me how to live my life, because they couldnt understand a thing I said. None of my points were valid and suddenly, these people have all the answers to my "problems".
Next time, I'll just smile like Katia and respond, "well to me is not crazy, but certainly to people outside my head it may seem so."
